"Besides numerous significant works concerning the fields of both natural and humanistic disciplines written by the famous Renaissance scholar Faustus Vrančić, there is also a less well-known manuscript, Illyrica historia, fragmenta ex variis Historicis, cum Latinis, tum Graecis, hinc inde collecta a Fausto Verancio Siceno, Episcopo Chanadiensi. This article deals with precisely that unfinished compilation of fragments from the works of Greek and Roman authors. A detailed analysis of quotations included in this manuscript shows Vrančić’s good knowledge of the Greek and Roman literary corpus, and places him among the supremely learned persons of his times. The Illyrica historia presents Faustus Vrančić as an versatile Renaissance scholar and thinker. This work of his fully meets the criteria of quality of the contemporary historiography of his age, but today does not have a great scholarly value. However, the sources quoted in this compilation of fragments testify not only to the level of preservation and accessibility of particular works, but also to the interest of Vrančić himself, who by this work represented himself as a versatile Renaissance scholar. Besides the all mention above, this manuscript is valuable also because it contains quotations from some today less well-known and less often used works.

This paper is split in two. In the first part I am presenting the legislation regarding the production and legislation of counterfeit coins in Dalmatian and Croatian sea towns during the medieval and early modern age. In the second part I am showing some examples of counterfeit. Such approaches help forming an idea on methods, actors and motives of coin counterfeit.

This article analyzes the De Bellis Gothorum, a long neglected and misunderstood history of the ancient Goths written in 1472–73 by Nicholas of Modruš, the leading Croatian-Illyrian bishop at the papal curia. By placing the work in its proper context, this article reconstructs a previously unknown episode in the political history of the fifteenth-century Adriatic. It is argued that the De Bellis Gothorum was in fact a national history that was meant to provide a trans-Adriatic network of Croatian and Bosnian nobles and churchmen with support from Naples and the papacy for their border wars against the Ottomans and reestablishment of their national kingdom.

U radu se donose nove vijesti o doseljavanju Morlaka, osmanskih podanika, na područje
šibenske Zagore potkraj dvadesetih i početkom tridesetih godina 16. stoljeća. Utvrđuje se porijeklo i prostorni razmještaj pojedinih morlačkih skupina (katuna), a posebna se pozornost posvećuje zakupničkim ugovorima koje su njihovi glavari sklopili s vlasnicima sela i pašnjaka – šibenskim zemljoposjednicima. Predlažu se i nova rješenja za ubikaciju nekih naselja koja su navedena u osmanskome poreznom popisu iz 1550. godine kao i u šibenskim ispravama toga doba.

Resumo: Este artigo traz uma breve introdução sobre a história e arqueologia da colonização grega na área do Mar Adriático, a partir da época arcaica, dan-do destaque à área da Dalmácia Central, região litorânea da Croácia. Além de mostrar o potencial de estudo histórico e arqueológico da região croata acerca da Grécia antiga e do Mediterrâneo antigo, nossa intenção é apresentar um panorama geral sobre a dinâmica da fundação de assentamentos gregos (apoi-kias e/ou empória) e do contato cultural entre gregos de diversas origens e entre gregos e as populações locais não-gregas nessa área entre o Ocidente e o Ori-ente do Mar Mediterrâneo. Abstract: This article provides a brief introduction to the history and archaeology of Greek colonization in the Adriatic Sea area from the Archaic era, highlighting the area of Central Dalmatia, Croatia's coastal region. In addition to showing the potential for historical and archaeological study of the Croatian region about ancient Greece and the ancient Mediterranean, our intention is to provide an overview of the dynamics of the foundation of Greek settlements (apoikiai and/or emporia) and of cultural contact between Greeks from diverse origins in the Greek world and between Greeks and local populations in this area between the West and the East of the Mediterranean Sea.

The paper presents main characteristic of the maritime affairs of the Independent State of Croatia (Nezavisna Država Hrvatska, NDH) on the Adriatic Sea during the period when Rome Accords from May 18, 1941 were in force. Rome Accords were signed by Italian leader Benito Mussolini and head of Ustasha movement and NDH Ante Pavelić. Under Rome Accords Italy annexed large parts of Croatian eastern Adriatic coast. Furthermore NDH renounced holding navy at the remaining parts of its coast and all vessels of the Royal Yugoslav navy were seized by Italians and former Yugoslav steamer companies were taken under Italian control. In the summer of 1941 Italian army occupied the whole Croatian coastal region. This move was justified by the Italian need to secure the hinterland of the annexed territories and in order to suppress the uprising of Serb population against NDH. In fact Italians used this as a pretext to weaken the military presence of NDH in the coastal region and to put its civilian authorities under Italian control. Obviously, although Italy and NDH were formally allies and Axis partners, in fact Italy achieved territorial gains on the Croatian Adriatic coast and later tried to subvert and weaken NDH presence in the coastal region.
After Italian occupation of the Croatian coastal region control of the Croatian naval traffic and fishing came under the control of the Italian army and navy. Although NDH naval and other authorities in the coastal region were subordinated to Italians, Croatian representatives tried to protect interests of Croatian seamen and fishermen. Italians took over or sequestered numerous vessels, but NDH authorities tried to keep for Croatia as many vessels as it was possible, and symbolically it was very important that as many vessels as it was possible fly the Croatian flag. The development of the Partisan movement also aggravated the situation, with Partisan attacks on vessels and maritime traffic.
The situation changed dramatically after Kingdom of Italy capitulated in September 1943. NDH declared Rome Accords null and void and proclaimed the return of formally Italian annexed areas under its sovereignty. But the ensuing development of war, with the growing of Partisan movement and its own navy, as well as activities of Allied naval and air forces from Italy, greatly hampered the attempts of NDH to improve its maritime affairs, although the German Reich gave support to the development of NDH navy on the Adriatic.

ABSTRACT
The paper will analyse various representations of people called by an ethnonym Les Morlaques (Morlachs), which was used by French observers to describe various populations inhabiting Croatia and Dalmatia which were a part of the Illyrian Provinces (1709– 1713). The ethnonym “Morlachs” comes from Greek (Mavro Vlasi – the Black Vlachs), however, since the 16th century it was used not only to describe the Vlachs, but also the Slavs, or even other groups. French observers took over its use from the Italians, however, in the 18th century they started to investigate the Balkan peoples by themselves. Those first attempts resulted in a very inconsistent ethnic cartography of the Balkan peoples, based mainly on the Byzantine, German and Italian testimonies. This inconsistence is visible especially thanks to the comparison between relevant articles in the encyclopaedic publications.
However, within the rise of the French political interest in the Balkans and creation of the Illyrian Provinces by Napoleon, the French administrators started to concretize their image of the Balkan peoples. This concerned also Morlachs, who were described by the authors such as Balthasar Hacquet or Charles Nodier, and others. The paper will show how the identity of Vlachs and Slavs inhabiting Illyrian Provinces, known under the name of Morlachs, was changing in the eyes of the external observers. This problem is a part of a wider question of shaping the image of the Balkans by the western observers.

STRESZCZENIE Artykuł stanowi analizę różnych przedstawień ludności określanej etnonimem Les Morlaques (Morlacy). Był on używany przez francuskich obserwatorów do opisania róż-nych populacji zamieszkujących Chorwację i Dalmację, które były częścią Prowincji Iliryj-skich, istniejących w latach 1709–1713. Etnonim " Morlacy " pochodzi od greckiego wyraże-nia oznaczającego " Czarnych Wołochów " (Mavro Vlasi), ale od XVI w. był używany nie tyl-ko do opisywania Wołochów, ale również Słowian. Francuzi zapożyczyli stosowanie tego terminu od Włochów, chociaż od XVIII stulecia sami zaczęli badać Bałkany. Owe pierw-sze próby skutkowały bardzo niespójną kartografią etniczną ludów bałkańskich, opartą na źródłach włoskich, niemieckich czy bizantyjskich. Owa niespójność jest możliwa do prze-śledzenia m.in. dzięki przestudiowaniu odpowiednich haseł w wydawnictwach encyklo-pedycznych. W związku z coraz większym politycznym zaangażowaniem Francji na Bał-kanach i utworzeniem Prowincji Iliryjskich przez Napoleona, Francuzi zaczęli konkrety-zować swoje wyobrażenia dotyczące ludów bałkańskich. Dotyczyło to również Morlaków, o których wypowiadali się m.in. tacy autorzy, jak Balthazar Hacquet czy Charles Nodier. W artykule starano się pokazać, w jaki sposób tożsamość Wołochów i Słowian, mieszkań-ców Prowincji Iliryjskich znanych pod nazwą Morlacy, zmieniała się w oczach zewnętrz-nego obserwatora. Problem ten jest istotny w kontekście szerszej perspektywy kształtowa-nia się zachodnioeuropejskiego obrazu Bałkanów.

Na temelju analize objavljenih i neobjavljenih vrela, prije svega ugovora o naukovanju i komunalnih statuta, autor razmatra problematiku dobi dječaka koji su u kasnosrednjovjekovnom Dubrovniku, Šibeniku, Rabu i Poreču primani na šegrtovanje kod lokalnih majstora. Donosi i pregled promišljanja životnog ciklusa čovjeka od pojedinih antičkih i srednjovjekovnih mislioca.

U članku se prikazuje razvoj sokolskog pokreta od prvih početaka u Češkoj i njegovo širenje u Hrvatskoj te istražuje povijest društva Hrvatski sokol u Makarskoj. Autor istražuje značenje sokolstva u Hrvatskoj, Dalmaciji i Makarskoj te uvjete njegova djelovanja. Poseban naglasak stavlja se na povezivanje sokolskog djelovanja s političkom situacijom u Hrvatskoj i Monarhiji te strankama koje su imale najveći utjecaj na Hrvatski sokol. Sokolsko društvo u Makarskoj osnovano je 1894., a prestalo je s djelovanjem 1914. uslijed zabrane rada sokolskim društvima u Monarhiji zbog početka Prvog svjetskog rata. U funkcioniranju mu je velike probleme stvarao otpor kotarskog poglavarstva i autonomaška stranka, no unatoč tome postiglo je veliki utjecaj u svakodnevnom gradskom životu.

Koristeći se talijanskim diplomatskim dokumentima u ovome radu prikazuje se i analizira talijanska vanjska politika prema jadranskom pitanju od izbijanja Prvoga svjetskog rata do zaključenja Londonskog ugovora u travnju 1915. Kada je rat zatekao Italiju na strani Centralnih sila, ona se proglasila neutralnom, računajući pritom ponajprije na razvoj jadranskog pitanja nakon rata. Za Italiju je dvojba bila sljedeća: ili će na Jadranu dominirati ojačana Austro-Ugarska (ako pobijedi u ratu) ili će Jadranom dominirati velika slavenska država (ako se Monarhija raspadne uslijed ratnog poraza). Rad slijedi pregovore Italije s Antantom, prikazujući taktiziranje s teritorijalnim zahtjevima koje je Italija tražila kao zadovoljštinu za ratni angažman protiv vlastitih saveznika – Austro-Ugarske i Njemačke. Ističu se različiti pogledi koje su na jadransko pitanje imali ministri vanjskih poslova Antonio San Giuliano i njegov nasljednik Sidney Sonnino koji pak je bio inspirator i kreator pregovora s Antantom i u konačnici postignutog dogovora nazvanog Londonski ugovor.

D'un point de vue étymologique, le terme d'étranger (extraneus, forenses) apparaîtrait au XIIe siècle, pour désigner celui qui est "hors de". Le terme de marginal, marginale, entre en usage autour du XIVe siècle, pour désigner ce qui est "au bord de". Aussi, l'article passe tout d'abord en revue de manière synthétique, et à travers tout l'espace médiéval européen, voire Proche oriental, les divers critères d'exclusion qui touchent les étrangers, qu'ils soient voyageurs, conquérants, immigrés ou étrangers temporairement domiciliés dans un milieu donné : la langue, la religion et les moeurs.
  Une seconde approche s'attarde davantage sur l'exclusion politique des étrangers, auxquels les Statuts urbains ne reconnaissent pas la citoyenneté. Deux aspects principaux y sont observés : ce que cette négation présente comme avantages - la liberté de mouvements, particulièrement pour les hommes d'affaires et les privilèges de traitement pour le règlement du négoce - et comme inconvénients - la ségrégation et l'expulsion en cas de changements économico-politiques.
    La dernière partie aborde alors les possibilités pour ceux qui sont "hors de" d'entrer "à l'intérieur" d'une communauté : on y observe la place des immigrés et celle des hommes d'affaires qui s'intègrent dans la société civile du milieu dans lequels ils se trouvent, pour peu que leurs contributions économiques et professionelles soient reconnues, car à cet égard, les législations urbaines se révèlent être souples.
    La marginalisation des étrangers dépend donc à la fois du contexte et des intérêts, politico-économiques qui sont en cours dans le milieu d'accueil, mais aussi de l'engagement personnel de chaque étranger dans le nouvel environnement.

The study comprises of the three parts. The first one (chapters 1–3) presents a history of the earliest cult and hagiography of the early Christian martyrs St. Anastasia and St. Chrysogonus. The second part (chapters 4–6) deals with the emergence of their cult in Zadar and the local reflection of their „universal hagiography“ (Passio S. Anastasiae). The third part (chapters 7–8) deals with the „local hagiography“– Iadertine legends of translation (Translatio Beati Grisogoni i Translatio Sanctae Anastasiae).
The first chapter (The origins of the cult: Sirmium and Aquileia, ca. 305 – ca. 450) depicts the cult of St. Anastasia and St. Chrysogonus between the early 4th c. and the formation of their „canonical“ hagiographies followed by the „implantation“ of their cult in Rome and Constantinople in the second half of the 5th century. The second chapter (The shaping of the cult: Constantinople and Rome, ca. 450 – ca. 850) analyses the key period in the formation of the cults in the period between the translation of their cult/relics in two cities and their dissemination in the 9th century. The third chapter (Passio Anastasiae: the problems of its origins and earliest textual transmission) concentrates on the common passio of St. Anastasia and St. Chrysogonus, with the emphasis on the relation between the earliest existing versions of the legend as well as the attempt to contextualize its formation. The fourth chapter (The origins of the cult of St. Anastasia and St. Chrysogonus in Zadar) summarizes the historical overview in the late antiquity and in the early middle ages connecting it with the earliest traces of the cults in early medieval Zadar. The fifth chapter ('Codex Filippi' and the earliest Iadertine version of PA) is focused on the key codicological, paleographical and iconographical problems connected to the recently discovered liturgical manuscript containing the oldest local version of PA. In the sixth chapter (Cod. Filippi and other Iadertine versions of PA) different local version/redactions are compared and the thesis about the “lost early Iadertine hagiography” of the two martyrs is discussed. The seventh chapter (Translatio Beati Chrysogoni) deals with the hagiographic tradition about the discovery of the relics of St. Chrysogonus in the vicinity of Zadar. The eight chapter (Translatio Sanctae Anastasiae) is mostly dedicated to the textual analysis of the chosen narrative elements in TSA, the local account of the arrival of the relics of St. Anastasia to Zadar from Constantinople.

S razvojem ikonografije sv. Jeronima u talijanskom slikarstvu od 14. stoljeća njegovi prikazi postaju sporadično prisutni i na istočnoj obali Jadrana. Jačanjem političkih, trgovačkih i kulturnih veza između dvije obale Jadrana, kao i uplivom humanizma i renesanse, tijekom 15.
stoljeća Jeronimovi prikazi postaju sveprisutni u dalmatinskim komunama. Razlog tomu je i štovanje Jeronima kao nacionalnog sveca od strane njegovih sunarodnjaka. Ovo izlaganje bavit će se procesom vizualnog usvajanja popularnih ikonografskih prikaza sveca, poput
Jeronima učenjaka ili Jeronima pustinjaka, kroz naručivanje slika talijanske produkcije, ali i kroz adaptacije lokalnih majstora. Osim tipskog razlaganja umjetničke produkcije prisutne u dalmatinskim komunama tijekom 14. i 15. stoljeća, izlaganje će dati pregled razvoja ikonografije temeljene na pisanim izvorima i sačuvanim likovnim djelima, vodeći se pitanjem postojanja specifičnog prikaza koji odražava Jeronimov novi status. U tom kontekstu, izlaganje će donijeti novo čitanje ikonografije renesansnog reljefa sv. Jeronima u špilji iz trogirske krstionice koji je izradio Andrea Aleši 1467. godine, kao apotropejskog prikaza koji
odražava Jeronimovu zaštitničku ulogu. Razlažući razloge njegovog nastanka, umjetničke modele i nasljednike, istaknut će se previđena važnost ovog djela za razvoj renesanse umjetnosti i ideja u Dalmaciji, kao i za formiranje i širenje kulta sv. Jeronima diljem istočne
obale Jadrana.

Potaknut istraživanjima u novijoj literaturi (M. Matijević Sokol, N. Budak), autor na primjeru sinodalnih spisa splitskih crkvenih sabora 10. stoljeća istražuje tekstualni odnos kronike Historia Salonitana autora Tome Arhiđakona (13. stoljeće) s kolektanejem Historia Salonitana Maior nepoznatog sastavljača (vjerojatno 16. stoljeće), kao i obilježja tog odnosa. Analizom sinodalnih akata u konfrontaciji s Arhiđakonovom kronikom, autor zaključuje da je splitski pisac raspolagao bogatim tekstualnim materijalom o splitskim sinodama, vjerojatno cjelokupnim skupom izvora o njima, kakav je tradiran u Historia Salonitana Maior.

The assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie redirected the political developments in the province. Until then, most notably political issues such as electoral reform for Dalmatian Parliament or the anticipated unification Croatian People's Progressive Party and Croatian Party had fallen into background, and soon disappeared from the political horizon. Anti-Serb demonstrations became the primary political issue of the Dalmatian newspapers during turbulent July in 1914. Declaration of war dramatically increased the degree of political control over Dalmatia. Numerous arrest were made, numerous politically dubious societies were disbanded and many constitutional freedoms were suspended such as the secrecy of correspondence, freedom of assembly and of press. Serbian organizations and  those Croatian organizations and individuals of Serbian orientation were particularly targeted. The Italian community was spared of political persecution during 1914 because the policy was to appease the Kingdom of Italy. The first year of the war showed deficiencies in the supply of the population which would significantly worsen during the war years.

The article traces the history of the Volcassio family estate in medieval Dubrovnik. This noble family was among the greatest urban property
owners, whose members participated actively in the political and economic activities of the city. The estates of Volcasio Johannis (Vukas Ivanić) and his sons Pasqua and Damianus Volcassio have been identified, along with those of other family members, all mainly located in the suburb south of the Plaça (later centre of the town), which include the plots of land used for housing or rent. By grounding the research on a wealth of original documents entered into the computer database, the authors analyse the positioning and expansion of the Volcassio family estates with regard to legal regulation, social conditions and urban communal development which peaked in the second half of the thirteenth century

Reconstruction of paleo relative sea level (RSL) is based on multi-proxy disciplines including archaeology. Saltpans, like fish tanks which are considered a reliable method for acquiring RSL index points, are also anthropogenic intertidal facilities, used continuously in the Mediterranean from early antiquity. The Dalmatian shore contains a large number of preserved and historically dated ancient saltpans, now flooded by the rising sea, providing great potential for past RSL indication. The primary objective of this study is to develop a new holistic approach for producing high quality elevation measurements of the saltpan structures and estimating paleo RSL during the last 2 ka. The study combined aerial photo-grammetry of the site, bathymetry acoustics scanning, and underwater archaeological survey of the man-made structures, as well as sampling wood and mortar in situ where available. Evaluation of each site's RSL and the functional height is based on the same assumptions and interpretations made for fish tanks, using elevation measurements on the top of the separation walls and the bottom of the sluice gates. In all the sites analyzed here, we achieved reliable digital surface models with continuous high-resolution data on the indicative structures with single centimeters level of accuracy. The study finds that during the 5th-6th centuries, RSL was -92 ± 25 cm, increased to -62 ± 21 cm during the 7th-11th centuries, and decreased to -104 ± 20 cm in the 14th century. Medieval RSL can be explained either by strong tectonic subsidence post 1300 AD or by fluctuations as observed in the East Mediterranean, which requires validation by further Medieval indicators.

Primarna pretenzija ovoga rada bila je monografska obrada ljetnikovca Bozdari u Rijeci dubrovačkoj, međutim uz povijesni uvod i opis građevno-povijesnoga razvoja sklopa, kao nužno nametnula su se određena revidiranja nekih činjenica koje su se pojavljivale u literaturi o ovom ljetnikovcu. Uz navedeno, nakon akribično provedene formalno-stilske analize, ovaj je rad ponudio svojevrsnu raspravu o pluralizmu i sintezi stilova prisutnih na ljetnikovcu Bozdari koja može biti primjenjiva i na ostale ljetnikovce dubrovačkoga kraja. Deducirano je da se na njemu isprepliću kasnorenesansni, maniristički i barokni elementi te je eksplicitnije izrečeno ono što se u ranijim radovima javljalo u poprilično implicitnim formulacijama, odnosno da je riječ o stilskom hibridu bez ikakvih negativnih konotacija koje je taj termin u tom trenutku sa sobom nosio.

U članku se predstavljaju slabije poznati detalji o ubojstvu istaknutog splitskog HSS-ovca Vojka Krstulovića, reakciji tadašnjih medija i redarstvenoj istrazi koja je uslijedila, a koje je moguće rekonstrurati na temelju dokumenata pohranjenih u Državnom arhivu u Splitu.
U prijeratnim godinama Krstulović se istaknuo kao novinar te član Omladinske organizacije HSS na području Dalmacije. Nakon talijanskog zauzimanja Dalmacije 1941. Krstulović se seli u Omiš, a u listopadu 1943. vraća se u Split gdje nastavlja s političkim radom, zapaženim i od strane Komunističke partije. Likvidiran je 22. lipnja 1944. metkom u sljepoočnicu, a u izvješću Župske redarstvene oblasti istaknuto je da je „na temelju dobivenih obavieštenja ubojstvo izvršeno na pok. Krstulovića iz političkih razloga i sa sigurnošću se može reći da je to izvršeno od strane komunističke partije u Splitu“. U dokumentima SUP-a iz 1960-ih godina ostalo je zabilježeno da je Krstulović likividiran„od članova otpora zato što je aktivno saradjivao sa ustašama i okupatorom“.

Na smrt Vojka Krstulovića osvrnuli su se glasilo Hrvatske radićevske omladine „Republika“ i splitski dnevni tisak, ali i partizansko glasilo „Glas Splita“ koje je objavilo da je „osvetnička narodna ruka satrla još jednog neprijatelja naroda i njegove svete oslobodilačke borbe“.

Župska redarstvena oblast u Splitu odmah je po ubojstvu Vojka Krstulovića saslušala niz svjedoka koji su se te večeri našli u neposrednoj blizini događaja. Saslušano je nekoliko svjedoka, no u rujnu 1944. zaključeno je da se istragom ništa novo nije moglo doznati o likvidaciji Vojka Krstulovića. Identitet atentatora razotkrilo je izvješće Okružnog komiteta KPH Split od 25. lipnja 1944. u kojemu se navodi da su akciju izvršili pripadnik Komunističke partije Tito Kirigin i jedan skojevac.

The paper discusses development, use and disappearance of Zadar's medieval capitularies that regulated activities of town officials. Although capitularies are not preserved it is clear they were an important component of urban life because they standardized and separated jurisdictions of different town authorities and were part of everyday judicial practice. Certain capitularies existed already in the 13th century, while the others were founded in the 14th century. The paper discusses also the circumstances of changing and moving certain capitulary provisions to statutory reformations after restoration of Venetian rule over Zadar in 1409 which meant suppression of certain competences of the remaining judges for civil disputes. Abolition of capitularies in 1458 is associated with the fact that the last two municipal courts ceased to operate that year. By comparing Zadar judicial records with the fact that Venetian authorities changed and moved certain capitulary provisions to statutory reformations after 1409, the content of those capitulary provisions is reconstructed.

Kontinuitet našeg naroda na našem prostoru od prapovijesti do današnjih dana nije bio sporan i bio je dio znanstvenog diskursa sve do XIX. stoljeća. Dakle, sve do tada svakome je bilo jasno da su Južni Slaveni = Iliri. U ovom članku ćemo pokazati da su istom „alkemijom“ prapovijesni stećci odjednom postali srednjovjekovni spomenici što znači da su stećci i pitanje našeg kontinuiteta neraskidivo povezani.

U godini 2015. trebala je biti proslavljena 200. obljetnica osamostaljenja
župe Gospe Karmelske u Selcima od župe Gornjeg Humca. No, pregledom izvora i literature očito je da su Selca postala župom 1714. godine. U knjizi se donose okolnosti nastanka župe te njena povijest. U prilogu se donosi popis župnika, kretanje broja stanovnika te prijepis dokumenta o osamostaljenju župe.

Stjepan II Kotromanic was the first Bosnian ruler that extends his rule to the shores of the Adriatic Sea. The paper treats this important and crucial part of Bos nian medieval history that took place in 1326. In addition to the course of events that ultimately resulted in Bosnia's access to the sea, the preconditions and consequences were also taken into account. To a lesser extent, in addition to politics, economic his tory is also treated, i.e. those aspects of it that are important for this topic.

The chapter compares the uses of the Roman past of Pula and Split in the early modern period, two towns on the same maritime route between Venice and the Near East, elaborating on the “universality” of Pula’s urban identity as opposed to Split’s “uniqueness.” Moreover, the Roman buildings of Pula inspired visual artists and architects from Naples to Scotland, via numerous drawings and printed images that testify to the international reputation of these antiquities beginning in the mid‐fifteenth century. The impressive ruins of Diocletian’s palace in Split, on the other hand, had a lasting impact on the local architecture, but this can rarely be identified outside Dalmatia before the eighteenth century. Finally, the analysis of instances of refashioning of visual and verbal information on antiquities from the edge of Catholic Europe, which include different Italian, French, and British examples, expands our knowledge of the networks and media of circulation of such information.

Questo articolo presenta cinque diversi fondi e raccolte di catasti veneziani e documentazioni relative alla produzione catastale, che sono conservati nell’Archivio di Stato di Zara. Vengono descritte le circostanze in cui furono creati dal XV al XVIII secolo. I catasti furono realizzati parallelamente all’espansione dei possedimenti veneziani in Dalmazia (Acquisto Vecchio, Acquisto nuovo (Linea Grimani) e Acquisto nuvissimo (Linea Mocenigo)). Contengono molte informazioni preziose sugli abitanti della Dalmazia di allora, sulle proprietà che coltivavano e sui luoghi in cui vivevano. In quanto tali, rappresentano un potenziale scientifico e culturale eccezionale. Nell’articolo vengono inoltre presentati e analizzati i dati sull’uso del materiale catastale nella sala di lettura dell’archivio, nonché il lavoro dell’Archivio nel campo della pubblicazione catastale e nel campo delle attività espositive.
