The objective of this thesis is to study people’s navigation flow throughout architectural spaces and to provide a further observation of how user’s notions and senses tend to guide their spontaneous movement within a space. This study explores the use of “smart”, self-personalized digital signage and wayfinding system using existing technologies (AGPS, RFID, Face Detection, QR codes, and Augmented Reality) to locate and navigate users through space to their intended destination without the interference of other misleading information. Specifically, the implementation focuses on assisting in travelers’ navigation to their required destination in international airports.

This paper describes the architecture of a distributed digital signage system that is suitable to be deployed in a developing country setting. The design of the system, as much as possible, leverages open hardware, open source software, and open standards in order to reduce the impact from various technical, environmental, and cultural challenges that comparable deployments in developing countries have exhibited. The system comprises of three software elements: a content-management system constructed by repurposing an FTP server, a local content manager coded using a simple scripting language, and a multimedia player that utilizes an ordinary browser. The system is also made up of three major hardware nodes: a server built from a standard desktop computer, an access point procured locally, and a digital signage unit that is constructed from a standard LCD television connected to a single-board computer.

This paper summarizes the result of a field trial related to targeted and non-targeted digital signage (DS) with Anonymous Video Analytics (AVA) conducted over 9 month period of time and across 10 different retailers. The goal was to understand the impact of targeted and non-targeted digital signage on sales and offers in a different environment like super market store, electronic store, and general retails. By correlating AVA viewership information with proof-of-sale (POS) data relation can be established between the response time to an ad seen by a certain demographic group and the effect on the sale of the advertised product, so as to provide retailers/advertisers with intelligence to show the right ads to right audience at right time and in the right location. In this paper we present the development of an interactive, content‐aware and cost‐effective digital signage system. Using a monocular camera installed within the frame of a digital signage display, we employ real‐time computer vision algorithms to extract temporal, spatial and demographic features of the observers, which are further used for observer‐specific broadcasting of digital signage content. The number of observers is obtained by the Viola and Jones face detection algorithm, whilst facial images are registered using multi‐view Active Appearance Models. The distance of the observers from the system is estimated from the interpupillary distance of registered faces. Demographic features, including gender and age group, are determined using SVM classifiers to achieve individual observer‐specific selection and adaption of the digital signage broadcasting content. The developed system was evaluated at the laboratory study level and in a field study performed for audience measurement research. Comparison of our monocular localization module with the Kinect stereo‐system reveals a comparable level of accuracy. The facial characterization module is evaluated on the FERET database with 95% accuracy for gender classification and 92% for age group. Finally, the field study demonstrates the applicability of the developed system in real‐life environments.

Jika informasi bencana perlu disampaikan kepada masyarakat maka digunakan 2 cara yaitu sirene suara dan broadcast pesan melalui siaran televisi. Penelitian ini mengusulkan pemanfaatan layar perangkat TIK seperti televisi, komputer, HP, Tablet, dan sebagainya yang ada dimasyarakat atau yang dimiliki masyarakat agar dapat menerima informasi bencana tanpa mengganggu aplikasi yang sedang tampil di layar perangkat tersebut. Sasaran penelitian ini adalah memanfaatkan layar perangkat TIK yang ada dimasyarakat atau dimiliki masyarakat dan dapat diintegrasikan ke perangkat yang sudah ada milik BMKG dan BNPB. Faculty and students were asked to evaluate iTunes U in comparison to a broader collection of tools and their effective use across the departments of the University. The Graduate School of Education was found to use iTunes U most prolifically, and further study revealed specific student preferences toward personalized instruction. Implications for future research and implementation are discussed.

Everything in the world is being connected, and things are becoming interactive. The future of the interactive world depends on the future Internet of Things (IoT). Software-defined networking (SDN) technology, a new paradigm in the networking area, can be useful in creating an IoT because it can handle interactivity by controlling physical devices, transmission of data among them, and data acquisition. However, digital signage can be one of the promising technologies in this era of technology that is progressing toward the interactive world, connecting users to the IoT network through device-to-device communication technology. This article illustrates a novel prototype that is mainly focused on a smart digital signage system comprised of software-defined IoT (SD-IoT) and invisible image sensor communication technology. We have proposed an SDN scheme with a view to initiating its flexibility and compatibility for an IoT network-based smart digital signage system. The idea of invisible communication can make the users of the technology trendier to it, and the usage of unused resources such as images and videos can be ensured. In addition, this communication has paved the way for interactivity between the user and digital signage, where the digital signage and the camera of a smartphone can be operated as a transmitter and a receiver, respectively. The proposed scheme might be applicable to real-world applications because SDN has the flexibility to adapt with the alteration of network status without any hardware modifications while displays and smartphones are available everywhere. A performance analysis of this system showed the advantages of an SD-IoT network over an Internet protocol-based IoT network considering a queuing analysis for a dynamic link allocation process in the case of user access to the IoT network.
