Il saggio, pubblicato negli Atti della giornata di studio "Luca Pacioli a Milano" (Milano,Accademia di Brera, 20 marzo 2014), Accademia di Brera, Centro Studi Mario Pancrazi, University Book, Umbertide, 2015, mira ad effettuare una panoramica sulla cultura dell'edificato a Milano nel Rinascimento ed un'analisi del trattato di architettura del grande matematico, con particolare riguardo a la Porta Speciosa.

Luca Pacioli and Portrayal of Mathematical Humanism ... this paper addresses two outstanding puzzles in the Portrait of Luca Pacioli and Disciple [Capodimonte]: the numbers and line segments on the bottom left of the tablet and the addition problem on the bottom right, and the two remarkable solids appearing respectively in the lower right and upper left.  The numbers and segments on the tablet will be shown to relate to different powers of the golden ratio, while the solids will be analyzed on their own terms and their presence explained contextually from the perspective of the history of complex geometric solids in the Renaissance.  The present study confirms that the iconography of the Portrait was carefully composed by Pacioli, at a moment—retrospectively—that marked a turning point in his life: after 1495, the friar will transform himself from itinerant teacher of introductory and classical mathematical knowledge into courtier and creator of new and exciting mathematical insights, which eventually bore fruit in the pages of the Divina proportione.

Rivela come la rifondazione sforzesca dell'impianto urbano del Castello di Cotignola, avvenuta a seguito di un incendio che l'aveva ridotto ad un cumulo di cenere, sia frutto di una pianificazione definita da ordine e razionalità secondo uno schema geometrico regolare, con l'applicazione della proporzione aurea. Un tale riassetto urbanistico nella patria dinastica degli Sforza, sotto la spinta delle ambizioni politiche di Lodovico il Moro, trova spiegazione solo con l'intervento di Leonardo e Luca Pacioli, nel momento in cui al servizio del duca di Milano stavano lavorando al trattato sulla sezione aurea, il 'De Divina Proportione'. Cotignola quindi fu assunta a modello di 'città ideale', trattandosi di uno dei primi esempi di realizzazione in pieno Rinascimento.

Measured Words investigates the rich commerce between computation and writing that proliferated in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Italy.  Arielle Saiber explores the relationship between number, shape, and the written word in the works of four exceptional thinkers: Leon Battista Alberti’s treatise on cryptography, Luca Pacioli’s ideal proportions for designing Roman capital letters, Niccolò Tartaglia’s poem embedding his solution to solving cubic equations, and Giambattista Della Porta’s curious study on the elements of geometric curves. Although they came from different social classes and practiced the mathematical and literary arts at differing levels of sophistication, they were all guided by a sense that there exist deep ontological and epistemological bonds between computational and verbal thinking and production. Their shared view that a network or continuity exists between the arts yielded extraordinary results. Through measuring their words, literally and figuratively, they are models of what the very best interdisciplinary work can offer us.

Il volume analizza un'abbondante documentazione dei secoli XIII-XV relativa alle scuole ecclesiastiche legate alla canonica della cattedrale di Città di Castello, al monastero camaldolese di Sansepolcro e agli Ordini mendicanti presenti nei due maggiori centri dell'Alta Valle del Tevere. Di particolare interesse si rivelano le costituzioni della scuola canonicale del 1288, la cui attività è documentata dal 1233 al 1469. Dal capitolo della cattedrale di Città di Castello dipende anche la pieve di Santa Maria in Sansepolcro, la cui scuola è sporadicamente documentata nel 1279 e nel 1292.
La seconda parte del libro è dedicata alla presentazione di alcune biblioteche ecclesiastiche (monastero camaldolese di Anghiari 1140, vescovo di Città di Castello 1279, monastero camaldolese di Sansepolcro 1478/80) e familiari queste ultime nell'intento di capire quali testi di cultura religiosa fossero diffusi fra i laici.
Un'appendice finale raccoglie schede documentarie e bibliografiche su alcuni maestri di diritto canonico e di teologia, tra i quali il domenicano Giacomo Nardi da Città di Castello, gli agostiniani Dionigi da Sansepolcro e Rodolfo da Città di Castello, i camaldolesi Giovanni Abbarbagliati da Sansepolcro e Alessio da Città di Castello, il minore conventuale Luca Pacioli e i Servi di santa Maria Niccolò di Francesco da Sansepolcro e Stefano di Luca Becci.

Muhasebe ilk ortaya çıktığı günden beri önemi her geçen gün artan bir faaliyet olmuştur. Çünkü ekonomik faaliyetlere ilişkin neredeyse tüm kararlar muhasebe bilgi sisteminin çıktıları kullanılarak verilmektedir. Kamu yararı gözetilerek yürütülmesi gereken bir meslek olan muhasebede, meslek mensuplarının etik davranması bir zorunluluktur. Diğer önemli mesleklerde olduğu gibi muhasebe mesleğinde de meslek mensuplarına rehberlik etmesi amacıyla etik ilkeler geliştirilmiştir. Muhasebe mesleğinde etik ilkelerin gelişimini tarihsel bir perspektifle üç dönem halinde incelemek mümkündür. Birinci aşama ya da başlangıç olarak betimlenebilecek dönemi Luca Pacioli tarafından yazılan Summa Arithmetica ile başlatmak olasıdır. Pacioli, Summa Arithmetica’da defter tutanlara yönelik olarak, dürüst ve gerçeklere bağlı olmayı, sahte defter tutmamayı, vicdanlı ve çalışkan olmayı, mesleki özen ve kayıt nizamına uymayı öğütlemiştir. İkinci aşama ya da erken dönem diye de isimlendirilebilecek dönem, 19. yüzyılın sonlarında muhasebenin bir meslek olarak meşruiyetini oluşturma çabası içine girdiği zaman aralığıdır. 1917 yılında AIA tarafından yayınlanan sekiz maddelik etik kural meslek mensuplarını tanımlayarak, onlara uymaları için bir takım mesleki davranış kuralı getirmiştir. Üçüncü aşama ya da gelişme dönemi olarak tabir edilebilecek dönemi ise küreselleşme sürecinin başladığı 20. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren başlatmak mümkündür. Bu dönemde ABD merkezli AICPA, INTOSAI, IIA ve IFAC tarafından geliştirilen etik kodlar belirleyici olmuştur. Gelişme dönemimde dürüstlük, tarafsızlık, gizlilik ve mesleki yeterlilik olarak isimlendirilen etik kodlar ortak bir payda yaratmıştır.

L'Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, pubblicato nel 1499, è considerato il primo libro illustrato. Il contributo critico è focalizzato sull'esegesi del testo  narrativo, in particolare sullo stile espositivo e linguistico.E' integrato da analisi sulla sequenza di illustrazioni al fine di riaprire un possibile percorso e dibattito attributivo.

The Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, published anonymously in 1499, is considered the first illustrated book. This commentary focusses on the  exegesis of the narration - particularly on the linguistic style  - and analyses the sequence of the woodcut illustrations with the purpose of opening a possible research of authorship.

According to the early Renaissance philosopher Nicholas of Cusa, we are by divine providence destined to develop our own view on the world that we inhabit. Only the free actualisation of a plurality of concordant perspectives can enable us to find our path to the point of unity in which oppositions coincide in a meaningful way. However, we are neither masterly spectators of a unified space, as the Florentine tradition of modern art suggested, nor are we able to anticipate the coincidental point of unity, as linear perspective paintings suggest. Rather, our path to the point where oneness and concordance emerge requires, what Jean-Luc Marion called, a movement of ‘anamorphosis’: Instead of relying on the default-settings of the ‘imaging technics’ we have to change our point of view and feel our way to the turning point of its emergence. Like in Holbein’s painting The Ambassadors, we must shift our gaze in order to find the point where the ‘invisible’ gives itself to our view.
However, the world that we inhabit is not reducible to the theatrical space of Holbein’s age, in which artificial strategies ensured that the relevant ‘effects’ are securely brought about. After all, the creation is an image of God: it is not designed to uncover the memento mori of a skull, but the fullness of life. If anywhere, this life shouts outside in the alleys and squares – its ‘givenness’ is always already inscribed in the inhabited spaces of a temporalized ‘politics of glory’ that reveals the dignity and nobility of places, responsibilities, rules and professions.
This has far reaching implication not only for our understanding of the scientific modelling of ‘complex spaces’ but also for our understanding of the forces that govern the emergence of representative democratic spaces. Cusa’s account of complex spaces undermines not only the absolutist world-picture of Descartes and Newton, but also the totalising basic assumptions of modern liberalism. This essay develops a phenomenological reconstruction of Cusa’s late Gothic concept of complex spaces in conversation with the related, 20th century discussion on the concept of iconicity in Pawel Florensky and Jean-Luc Marion.

In this abbreviated version of the Society of Renaissance Studies Lecture delivered at the RSA conference in Chicago 2017, I emphasise the synergy between the artistic and the Euclidian culture of Venice in the period between the arrival of Giorgio Valla in 1481 through to the publication of Luca Pacioli's 'Divina proportione' in 1509.  The lecture draws attention to the vital role of geometry and proportion in the paintings of Giovanni Bellini and Carpaccio, as well as in the pages of the printed book in the age of Jenson and Aldus Manutius.  This geometrical aesthetic has been unduly neglected in studies of Venetian art.

ABSTRACT

Through the comparison of five accounting registers compiled by the officers of the mints of the Kingdom of Naples, between 1453 and 1576, the author attempts to establish what influence had on the reign bureaucratic apparatus the Benedict Cotrugli knowledge regarding Double Entry. The results of research put in evidence the different application that the ragusan did of this accounting tool respect to Pacioli, because over to being the first exhibitor and to have it used in the management of their company, he released it at every socioeconomic level: personal, state and theoretical.

ASTRATTO

Attraverso il confronto di cinque registri contabili compilati dagli ufficiali delle zecche del Regno di Napoli, tra il 1453 e il 1576, l’autore tenta di stabilire quale influenza abbiano avuto nell’apparato burocratico regnicolo le conoscenze di Benedetto Cotrugli in materia di Partita Doppia. I risultati della ricerca pongono in evidenza il differente impiego che il raguseo fece di questo strumento contabile rispetto al Pacioli, in quanto oltre ad esserne stato il primo espositore e ad averlo utilizzato nella gestione della propria azienda, lo diffuse ad ogni livello socio-economico: personale, statale e teorico.

RESUMEN

Por medio de la comparación de cinco registros contables compilados por los oficiales de las fábricas de moneda del Reino de Nápoles, entre 1453 y 1576, el autor intenta establecer qué influencia tuvo en el reino el aparato burocrático el conocimiento de Benedicto Cotrugli sobre la partida doble. Los resultados de la investigación ponen en evidencia la diferente aplicación que hizo el raguseo de esta herramienta contable respecto a Pacioli, ya que al ser el primero en mostrarlo y tenerlo utilizado en la gestión de su empresa, lo lanzó a todos los niveles socioeconómicos: personal, estatal y teórico.

O presente estudo trata-se de um recorte da pesquisa de mestrado em andamento e tem por objetivo apresentar a definição de corpos regulares adotada pelo frade italiano Luca Pacioli (1447-1517) em seu tratado intitulado De Divina Proportione, publicado em 1509, listando alguns casos considerados possíveis e impossíveis perante as condições descritas pelo autor. Na intenção de colaborar no ensino de Geometria Espacial sobre os corpos regulares, este estudo traz alguns detalhes acerca da definição utilizada pelo frade, elencando características relevantes e exemplos de situações trazidos no tratado. Percebendo, através desse estudo, que o ensino sobre corpos regulares através das propriedades citadas por Luca Pacioli pode contribuir na compreensão de conceitos sobre essa temática, idealiza-se como passos seguintes a realização de ações que contribuam na formação de professores de matemática e, consequentemente, de seus alunos da Educação Básica.

Una eclatante accusa di plagio è riportata da Geofroy Tory autore del trattato intitolato "Champ Fleury", summa di "arte e scienza della dovuta e vera proporzione delle lettere attiche, altrimenti dette lettere antiche e volgarmente lettere romane, proporzionate secondo il corpo ed il volto umano", pubblicato nel 1529. La testimonianza, "de relato", raccolta in Italia nell'ambiente dei grafici, incisori e stampatori, riportata da più persone in epoca prossima ai fatti, va ritenuta notizia attendibile, riscontrabile nel fondamento: « Frere Lucas Paciol du Bourg sanct sepulchre, de lorde des freres mineurs et Theologien, qui a faict en vulgar Italien vng livre intitule, Divina proportione, & qui a volu figurer le dictes lettres Attiques, nen a point aussi parle, ne baille raison: & ie ne men esbahis point, car iay entendu par aulcuns Italiens quil a desrobe ses dicte lettres, & prinses de feu Messire Leonarde Vince, qui est trespasse a Amboise, & estoit tres excellent Philosophe & admirable painctre, & quasi vng aultre Archimedes. Ce dicte frere Lucas a faict imprimer ses lettres Attiques comme sienne. De vray, elle peuvent bien etre a luy, car il ne les a pas faictes en leur deue proportion, comme ie monstray cy apres au renc des dictes lettres.» (1) Il Tory, che ha sentito riferire in Italia dell'appropriazione delle lettere di Leonardo da parte del Pacioli, non se ne fa meraviglia affatto, trovandone conferma nella mancanza di una adeguata trattazione descrittiva dei caratteri. Peraltro la carenza di qualità delle loro proporzioni-che ben poteva essere derivata dall'incisione per la stampa, piuttosto che dai disegni originali-lo lascia nel dubbio sulla attribuzione. Non è la sola accusa di plagio che il Pacioli ebbe a ricevere e più nota è quella riportata dal Vasari nelle sue "Vite dei pittori", che così recita: "E se bene il tempo, il quale si dice padre della verità o tardi o per tempo manifesta il vero, non è però che per qualche spazio di tempo non sia defraudato dell'onor che si deve alle sue fatiche colui che ha operato; come avvenne a Piero della Francesca dal Borgo a S. Sepolcro. Il quale, essendo stato tenuto maestro raro nelle difficoltà de' corpi regolari e nell'aritmetica e geometria, non potette, sopraggiunto nella vecchiezza dalla cecità corporale e dalla fine della vita, mandare in luce le virtuose fatiche sue et i molti libri scritti da lui,...

The table top parallels Earth’s curvature and thus the paper on it is curved, and so too is the straight line you drew (opposite legs of the table are vertical, i.e. in plumb, hence radial to Earth’s centre and not parallel to each other). There is no escape – even a laser-drawn straight line in outer space is curved because Einsteinian space is curved. In the definition of the straight line (the shortest distance between two points no ‘straightness’ is specified. When airlines fly on shortest routes to economise on fuel, the ‘curved’ geodesic pathways they follow are geometrically straight.

Accounting has become an increasingly important activity since the day it appeared. Because almost all of the decisions about economic activities are been made using the outcomes of accounting information system. In accounting which is a profession that needs to be executed considering the public interest, members of this profession must act ethically. Just like in other important professions, in order to guide professionals some ethical codes was developed. It is possible to examine the development of ethical codes in the accountant profession with a historical perspective in three terms. The first phase or the era that can be described as the beginning can be started with Summa Arithmetica written by Luca Pacioli. Pacioli advised to be honest and stay true to facts, not to keep fake accounts, to be conscientious and hard-working, work with professional care and comply with recording order in Summa Arithmetica. The era we can call as the second stage or early period, is at the end of 19. century when the accounting was in the effort to create legitimacy as a profession. Published by the AIA in 1917, the eight-point ethical rules defined the members of profession, and has brought some professional behaviour codes for them to follow. The third stage or the era that can be described as the development period can be started from the second half of the 20. century when the globalisation process began. During this period, U.S.-based AICPA, INTOSAI, IFAC and IIA codes of ethics has been determinative. During the development period the ethical codes named integrity, objectivity, confidentiality and professional competence has created a common ground for accounting.

Reconhecido como um dos maiores pintores da história, Leonardo da Vinci, assim como outras personalidades de seu tempo, buscou durante toda a sua vida ampliar seu conhecimento, sendo motivado por sua curiosidade e por seu espírito investigativo. Na tentativa de se tornar um homem universal, deixou várias contribuições nas mais diversas áreas, como a arquitetura, a engenharia e a anatomia. Sua proximidade com o frade italiano Luca Pacioli na corte de Milão o levou a ter uma visão diferenciada sobre a relação entre o homem, a Matemática e a natureza, principalmente no que se refere a um dos grandes mistérios envolvidos nessa terna: o Número de Ouro. O presente artigo é um recorte de uma pesquisa anterior, apresentada como trabalho de conclusão do curso de Licenciatura Plena em Matemática da UECE, em 2013, que visava identificar alguns feitos de Leonardo da Vinci sobre o Número de Ouro e suas contribuições no desenvolvimento das ciências. Tendo Bertato (2008), Lívio (2011) e Bagni e D’Amore (2012) como referências principais, através de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, apresentamos um pouco da relação entre Leonardo e a Matemática antes e depois do encontro com Luca Pacioli, influenciado por estudos referentes ao Número de Ouro. Tal encontro possibilitou ao artista um fortalecimento de seus conhecimentos em Matemática, acarretando contribuições significativas em seus diversos estudos. Assim, visamos com este artigo despertar a curiosidade daqueles que não o conhecem, bem como ampliar os estudos históricos para aqueles que buscam conhecer ainda mais sobre esta personalidade e suas contribuições para as ciências.
