Earlier investigations have indicated that work beliefs in organization are impacted by different national cultures. In addition, those investigations have sought to understand the meaning of work in such different cultures. This study explores the meaning of work in the Egyptian context through an assessment of work beliefs and work attitudes. The article starts with a presentation of what is meant by the meaning of work and why research into work beliefs is both needed and worthwhile. The article then presents a review of the relevant literature that evaluated the meaning of work in different countries. The review also elucidates recent research efforts that have tried to shed some light on the meaning of work in Middle-Eastern contexts. Data were collected from 201 Egyptian white-collar workers. Work beliefs and some job attitudes were assessed. Results indicate the prevalence of the humanistic work-belief system. Job satisfaction was positively correlated with the humanistic work-belief system and negatively with the Marxist work-belief system. The implications of these and other findings for international managers are discussed and recommendations for future researchers are put forward.

Several studies have addressed the importance of work goals, work values, orientations, and ethics of managers. The volume of studies done only tells about the importance that work has in our lives. Fewer studies have addressed Arab contexts. The aim of the present investigation is follow the historical development of work values in the Arab culture. This study outlines the development of the work values in the Arab culture before the advent of Islam till our present day. In doing this the study elaborates,
and presents research propositions, on the anetcdents of such work values and the relevant
organizational impacts.

"Purpose – This paper explores the important challenges of the field of organisational behaviour (OB) in the current
working environment to identify the areas where OB practitioners and HR professionals can contribute positively
towards the organisational effectiveness.
Design/methodology/approach – The paper reviews existing literature on the challenges of the present day business
environment and proceeds to identify and elaborate on two major inclusions in the scope of OB for the future. The
paper does this by analysing the four major challenges faced by any organisation in today’s fast changing world i.e.
Impact of globalisation, growing workforce diversity, managing ethical and moral issues and the use of advanced
information technology to arrive at the present day organisational context, which in turn is called as the Organisational
Milieu.
Findings – The authors are trying to reorient the focus of the field of organisational behaviour by explaining the need
for giving priority to both micro and macro variables of OB while studying the human behaviour in organisation. This
paper proposes two areas- Organisational Milieu and Training in “People Skills”- where OB professionals can
contribute as part of the changing focus in the current challenging and constantly changing working environment.
Practical implications – The paper identifies two major areas of focus for modern day OB practitioners. One-
Focusing on Organisational Milieu and developing suitable OD strategies based on it. Two- Identifying the Training
needs of the organisation and providing “people skills” training.
Originality/value– The paper tries to present arguments to support the necessity for reorienting the focus of OB from
an individual perspective to an environmental perspective as well. The paper suggests the terminology “organisational
milieu” to denote the changing organisational context and also provides one of the most important practical aspects of
the field of OB – Training in “People skills” , which is an important skill in today’s business world."

The aim of this study is to test the “work values” inventory developed by Tevruz and Turgut and to utilize the concept in a model, which aims to create a greater understanding of the work experience. In the study multiple effects of work values, work-value congruence and work centrality on organizational citizenship behavior are examined. In this respect, it is hypothesized that work values and work-value congruence predict organizational citizenship behavior through work centrality. Work-goal congruence test, Tevruz and Turgut’s work values inventory are administered along with Kanungo’s work centrality and Podsakoff et al.’s [47] organizational citizenship behavior test to employees working in Turkish SME’s. The study validated that Tevruz and Turgut’s work values inventory and the work-value congruence test were reliable and could be used for future research. The study revealed the mediating role of work centrality only for the relationship of work values and the responsibility dimension of citizenship behavior. Most important, this study brought in an important concept, work-value congruence, which enables a better understanding of work values and their relation to various attitudinal variables.

The main purpose of this study is to understand the importance that is attached to work by analysing the link between work-related values and attitudes. In this respect, it is hypothesised that work values significantly predict work centrality and that this relationship is moderated by work-value congruence. Work-value congruence is conceptualised on the premise that different work values have varying degrees of influence on work centrality. It is proposed that as the distance between the act of working and the value it relates to (work-value congruence) differ, the relation between values and work centrality will change accordingly. In the study, work values have proved to act as an important predictor of work centrality. It is suggested that, work-value congruence be treated as an independent variable in future work-related research. The results are discussed along with gender differences for work values.

It is not the first time that psychologist mention Facebook as a reason for low self-esteem among users. Some researches state that women who spend a lot of time on social networking sites tend to think less of themselves. Others point out that users of both genders might feel less attractive and successful after checking updates from their Facebook friends. Psychological effect responsible for such a negative outcome is an attribution error called correspondence bias.

The Discourse Unit at Manchester Metropolitan University continued to challenge academic psychology's of itself through holding a day conference on 'cyberpsychology': the implications of cyberspace, cyberpunk, and cyberfeminism for psychology and subjectivity. It emerged that the term 'cyberpsychology' had been coined by the discourse unit specifically for this conference, but, what does cyberpsychology mean, why should it pose a challenge and what are the implications for feminist research and practise?....

Humans are not the same and have various values and norms which is dependent on culture. In order to increase the efficiency, human resource managers need to maximize the efficiency of organizations' most valuable resource which is its humans. To this end, special attention should be made to work values of the employees and the issues which affect them. Although a relatively large body of literature exists about the demographic differences of work values, most of the previous research has focused on a single ...

This article presents an analysis from a social constructionist perspective of data collected from British and Japanese university students on the desirability of lifetime employment at a single organization. The article emphasizes two related processes and in so doing helps to account for the diversity of employment structures both between and within the two countries as well as the persistence of lifetime employment in Japan. First, it shows that the two groups display some similarities in their attitudes but that their assumptions about employment practices in their countries may differ. These lead the two groups to develop the belief that they may be offered different outcomes and, thus, the students develop different conclusions as to the desirability of lifetime employment for themselves. Second, the research shows some differences in the students' approaches and these too lead them to reach different conclusions about the desirability of lifelong employment. In addition, the research highlights how, in both Britain and Japan, medical students' expectations are at times at odds with those of their colleagues in other subjects, and this may have important consequences for our understanding of how the respective employment systems are reproduced over time.

In the 1970s, Xerox pioneered the involvement of social science researchers in technology design and in developing better ways of working. The Xerox legacy is a hybrid methodology that combines an ethnographic interest in direct observation in settings of interest with an ethnomethodological concern to make the study of interactional work an empirical, investigatory matter. This edited volume is an overview of Xerox's social science tradition. It uses detailed case studies showing how the client engagement was conducted over time and how the findings were consequential for business impact. Case studies in retail, production, office and home settings cover four topics: practices around documents, the customer front, learning and knowledge-sharing, and competency transfer. The impetus for this book was a 2003 Xerox initiative to transfer knowledge about conducting ethnographically grounded work practice studies to its consultants so that they may generate the kinds of knowledge generated by the researchers themselves.
