Rectification

This paper discusses the adequacy Rawls' theory of justice as a tool for racial justice. It is argued that critics like Charles W Mills fail to appreciate the both the insights and limits of the Rawlsian framework. The paper has two main parts spread out over several different sections. The first is concerned with whether the Rawlsian framework suffices to prevent racial injustice. It is argued that there are reasons to doubt whether it does. The second part is concerned with whether a Rawlsian framework has the resources to rectify past racial injustice. It is argued that it has more resources to do this than Mills allows. This second part of the paper centers on two Rawlsian ideas: ideal theory and the fair equality of opportunity (FEO) principle. It is argued that ideal theory is essential for the kind of rectificatory work that Mills wants nonideal theory to do, and that where there is a socioeconomic legacy of past injustice, it is hard to see how FEO could be implemented if it did no rectificatory work, a result which means that there is less need to turn to nonideal theory at all.

This chapter investigates the operation of Maoism in a new social world,
the emerging party-state under the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in
Yan’an, the party’s center from 1937 to 1947, and tracks how this system of thought interacted with the material and social world to create the Communist model of the cadre as a particular kind of knowing and speaking subject. The data in this chapter come primarily from party-generated documents, especially authoritative statements
by Mao and organizational statements on the implementation of the Rectification Movement (1942-44) from three distinct organizational domains: propaganda, organization, and security. The functions of these domains during the campaign were, respectively, political mobilization, party building, and the purging of spies (real and imagined). These
uses of knowledge reflect the social and political institutions
of the emerging party-state: coordinated and exclusive media, a centrally
controlled bureaucracy, and a tragically anxious and powerful security apparatus.

For a healthy democratic system, the limits of press freedom should be organized as not to harm the honor and dignity of people. Right to reply and rectification is one of the most important mechanisms to ensure people’s rights and press freedom. In short this right prevents abuse of press freedom.
In the first section of the research, from Ottoman to the present, legal arrangements concerning the right of reply and rectification are summarized in constitutional framework and in press legislation.
Following that summarizes organization, objectives, functions and activities of Media Refutation Center were examined.
In the final part of the research, tried to determine what Media Refutation Centre brings self control mentality in Turkey. In this part additionally, status of self control in Turkish press is discussed in the context of Media Refutation Center and Press Council.
Source scanning and interview methods were used as the data gathering of this study.

The stereo matching algorithms for binocular vision are very popular and widely used. Still, the algorithms may have lower matching quality or higher time complexity. Matching can be viewed as a process of finding the degree of correlation between two groups of data. This area belongs to the one of the most explored topics in stereo vision. The depth value can be found by the disparity estimat ion by taking advantage of the similarity in these two views, which can be captured at the same time in a depth generation algorithm. It is not easy to find the accurate depth value if there is high similarity in color sp aces around the area. Stereo matchi ng is a fundamental problem in computer vision that estimates depth of a 3D scene with a pair of images. The push to introduce dual-voltage (42 V/14 V) automotive electrical systems necessitates power generation solutions capable of supplying power to multiple outputs. A number of approaches for implementing dual-voltage electrical systems have been proposed, but most suffer from severe cost or performance limitations. This paper explores the design of alternators incorporating dual-output switched-mode rectifiers (SMRs). The proposed approach enables the full load-matched power capability of the alternator machine to be achieved, with power delivered to the two outputs in any desired combination. SMR topologies for this application are introduced. Alternator/SMR design guidelines are established, and appropriate control laws are derived. Simulation and experimental results are presented that demonstrate the feasibility and high performance of the approach.

El diodo es un elemento de estado sólido compuesto por dos elementos semiconductores que entrelazados por una juntura conforman un dispositivo con características útiles para lograr rectificación de señales alternas. Algunos elementos semiconductores utilizados habitualmente en la fabricación en elementos de estado sólido son el silicio y el germanio. Si conectamos el diodo a una batería como muestra la figura, se comportará como un interruptor cerrado y permitirá circulación de corriente en la resistencia cuando el terminal positivo de la batería coincide con el ánodo. We investigate whether, and to what extent, Nozick’s entitlement theory and Rawls’s theory of justice as fairness can normatively ground affirmative action policies. Our findings are that, whereas the Nozickean project offers no guidance for large-scale redress, the Rawlsian position supports affirmative action as redress, but only in its softer forms. Therefore, if one accepts the assumptions of equal liberty and fairness upon which Rawls’s theory is based, one is left with two alternatives: either to reject Rawls’s theory because it fails to support quota systems, or to accept Rawls’s theory and reject quota systems as a legitimate form of redress. We argue for the latter option.

The current–voltage characteristic of the prepared Al/Polythiophene-SiO2/p-Si Schottky diode was analyzed by using different methods at room temperature. The barrier height and ideality factor of the diode were determined by using the conventional current–voltage method as 0.729eV and 2.12, respectively. The barrier height values calculated by means of the modified Norde functions have showed good agreement with the barrier height

The size of a shot group and its distance from the center of the target determine the degree of accuracy and precision of the long range rifle 12,7 mm M93. Accuracy and precision determine probability of hitting the target which affects the efficiency of solving firing tasks using the M93 rifle in combat. Increase of accuracy and precision is done by adjusting (rectifying) the rifle scope in accordance with the rifle manual. Considering three types of rectification, whose procedures are performed under different conditions, it is necessary to determine the degree of accuracy for each of them and conclude which rectification procedure delivers the greatest accuracy of the rifle scope as well as the more efficient execution of the given task.

This paper aims to study the paradigm of concessive constructions involving WH -EVER markers. Firstly, I show that it is possible to derive a concessive signification from the abstract forms mobilised by the use of these markers as subordinating clauses. Secondly, I go on to study the different WH -EVER markers in specific detail. It is seen that the various signification obtained depend closely on the properties of individual markers (WHENEVER, WHOEVER, WHATEVER etc.). In short, for one syntactical construction three interpretations appear possible: a fully concessive interpretation, a generalising interpretation and an indefinite interpretation. The last part is dedicated to a remarkable construction in which the WH- EVER construction targets the referential possibilities of part of the preceding main clause. The four possible significations depend upon the scope of the scanning operation marked by the morpheme EVER. The final signification of a given construction is shown to be the result of a calculation based on preenunciative, predicative and enunciative parameters.

Scaled-up development of water-free ethanol production technology is associated with its application as a fuel additive. Generally ethanol was produced in the form of not higher than 96 vol. % solution, close to azeotropic. If water containing ethanol is mixed with petrol layer separation of the mixture occurs, which is inadmissible for application in carburettor internal combustion engines. On the other hand, requirements to drinkable and even technical-grade ethyl alcohol are unnecessarily high for fuel ethanol; however the only requirement is to minimize expenses on rectification and dehydration. In the end it was concluded to use one distillation, one rectification columns and adsorption columns containing solid sorbent-zeolites.

Indigenous and non-indigenous communities in Latin America make land claims and support them with a variety of arguments. Some, such as Zapatistas and the Mapuche, have appealed to the " ancestral " or " historical " connections between specific communities and the land. Other groups, such as MST in Brazil, have appealed to the extremely unequal distribution of the land and the effects of this on the poor; the land in this case is seen mainly as a means for securing a decent standard of living for members of disadvantaged groups. Although there is a large literature on the history as well as the social and political dimensions of land contes-tations and conflicts in Latin America, the question of whether the land claims put forward by disadvantaged groups can be morally justified has not been adequately examined. In this essay, we investigate the scope and limits of appeals to what we shall call assistance-based, contribution-based, and benefitting-based moral reasons with respect to land claims made by these disadvantaged groups. RESUMEN Distintas comunidades en América Latina (indígenas y no indígenas) han realizado recla-mos de tierras sobre la base de una variedad de argumentos. Algunas de esas comunidades y grupos, tal como los zapatistas y el pueblo Mapuche, han efectuado estos reclamos apelando a conexiones " ancestrales " o " históricas " entre comunidades específicas y un territorio particular. Otros grupos, tal como el movimiento sin tierra (MST) en Brasil, sustentan sus re-clamos en rechazo a una desigual extrema en la distribución de la tierra y los efectos que este fenómeno tiene sobre los más pobres. En este caso, la tierra se concibe como un medio esen-cial para asegurar un nivel de vida digno para los miembros de esos grupos desaventajados. Aunque existe una extensa literatura sobre la historia, las dimensiones políticas y sociales de los reclamos territoriales en América Latina, la pregunta sobre en qué medida esos reclamos puede ser moralmente justificados no ha sido adecuadamente examinada.
