According to the law of accelerating returns, explains futurist Kurzweil (The Age of Intelligent Machines), technological gains are made at an exponential rate. In his utopian vision of the 21st century, our lives will change not merely incrementally but fundamentally. The author is the inventor of reading and speech-recognition machines, among other technologies, but he isn't much of a writer. Using clunky prose and an awkward dialogue with a woman from the future, he sets up the history of evolution and technology and then offers a whirlwind tour through the next 100 years. Along the way, he makes some bizarre predictions. If Kurzweil has it right, in the next few decades humans will download books directly into their brains, run off with virtual secretaries and exist ""as software,"" as we become more like computers and computers become more like us. Other projections--e.g., that most diseases will be reversible or preventable--are less strange but seem similarly Panglossian. Still others are more realizable: human-embedded computers will track the location of practically anyone, at any time. More problematic is Kurzweil's self-congratulatory tone. Still, by addressing (if not quite satisfactorily) the overpowering distinction between intelligence and consciousness, and by addressing the difference between a giant database and an intuitive machine, this book serves as a very provocative, if not very persuasive, view of the future from a man who has studied and shaped it. Abstract—Some in-parallel robots, such as the 3-2-1 and the 3/2 manipulators, have attracted attention because their forward kinematics can be solved by three consecutive trilaterations. In this paper, we identify a class of these robots, which we call flagged manipulators, whose singularity loci admit a well-behaved decomposition, i.e., a stratification, derived from that of the flag manifold. Two remarkable properties must be highlighted. First, the decomposition has the same topology for all members in the class, irrespective of the metric details of each particular robot instance. Thus, we provide explicitly all the singular strata and their connectivity, which apply to all flagged manipulators without any tailoring. Second, the strata can be easily characterized geometrically, because it is possible to assign local coordinates to each stratum (in the configuration space of the manipulator) that correspond to uncoupled rotations and/or translations in the workspace. In Spike Jonze’s Her (2013), we watch the film’s protagonist, Theodore, as he struggles with the end of his marriage and a growing attachment to his artificially intelligent operating system, Samantha. While the film remains unique in its ability to cinematically portray the Lacanian contention that “there is no sexual relationship,” this article explores how our digital non-relationships can be re-approached through the medium of comedy. Specifically, when looked at through a comic lens, notable scenes from Her are examined for the potential they provide in affording a self-decentrement which allows us to traverse the fantasies that structure our non-relations.

Motivated by the lack of rotating solutions sourced by matter in General Relativity as well as in modified gravity theories, we extend a recently discovered exact rotating solution of the minimal Einstein-scalar theory to its counterpart in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity coupled to a Born-Infeld scalar field. This is accomplished with the implementation of a well-developed mapping between solutions of Ricci-Based Palatini theories of gravity and General Relativity. The new solution is parametrized by the scalar charge and the Born-Infeld coupling constant apart from the mass and spin of the compact object. Compared to the spacetime prior to the mapping, we find that the high-energy modifications at the Born-Infeld scale are able to suppress but not remove the curvature divergence of the original naked null singularity. Depending on the sign of the Born-Infeld coupling constant, these modifications may even give rise to an additional timelike singularity exterior to the null ...

Leaders all around the world, especially those at the helm of organizations, are known to be enthusiastic art collectors. Nonetheless, little research has been done on the impact of the leaders' art collecting pursuits on the development of their leadership approaches, This study sought to investigate the extent to which art collecting enahled 10 Brazilian leaders-cum-art collectors to attain leadership singularity through a close study of their speech in one-on-one, semi-structured, and online interviews. It examined the extent to which the interviewees' "signifiers" words whose meanings depend on context revealed the impact of art collecting on their attainment of leadership "singularity" - the uniqueness of an individual's style characterized by an absolute in différence to social conventions. The interviewees' use of polarizing signifiers to describe the business world as harsh and calculated in stark contrant to the warmth they associated with art showed how they used art collecting as a buffer to shield them against unpleasant leadership realities. Moreover, their employment of signifiers and meanings, which recurred in both their business and art worlds, also illustrated how art collecting served as a transitional object for them to define their singular selves and their leadership approaches. Finally, the interviewees' connecting signifiers revealed how art collecting challenged them to build an inclusive work environment or society by promoting openness to diverse perspectives. What this research study has affirmed is that something as seemingly trivial as words can surface the power of art in sustaining ambiguities and ambivalences for the cultivation of individuel and leadership singularities with ripple effccts on people around us

The investigation of 3D euclidean symmetry sets (SS) and medial axis is an important area, due in particular to their various important applications. The pre-symmetry set of a surface M in 3-space (resp. smooth closed curve in 2D) is the set of pairs of points which contribute to the symmetry set, that is, the closure of the set of pairs of distinct points p and q in M, for which there exists a sphere (resp. a circle) tangent to M at p and at q. The aim of this paper is to address problems related to the smoothness and the singularities of the pre-symmetry sets of 3D shapes. We show that the pre-symmetry set of a smooth surface in 3-space has locally the structure of the graph of a function from R^2 to R^2, in many cases of interest.

Main goal of this thesis is to point out that technological progress in concept of singularity theory has indispensable anomic potential – thus that development of social order largely influenced by imperative of technological progress according to Ray Kurzweil’s The Singularity is Near aims to disintegration of this order. Anomic potential of this kind we additionally consider as hegemonic extension of bourgeois technocratic language significant for the era of enlightenment. Consequently, corruptive tendency of technological progress has it’s roots in the grammar which enlightened bourgeoisie were using to strengthen their dominant status. Conceptual apparatus, which Kurzweil uses as genuinely neutral, encompasses intentions that implicitly offer a manual for it’s own application. Notions which are pronounceable by the language of singularity, as a heritage of technocratic grammar, are inherently sentenced to bear certain interpretations without necessity of being pronounced at all. Adequate expression and analytic means for critical reflexion of Kurzweil’s book are delivered to us by the ideal type of information society concept. Input of the analysis we consider, in the sense of adornian negative dialectics, the technodeterministic theory of singularity as a thesis (identical according to Adorno) and sociological theory of anomie as an analytical instrument – antithesis (according to Adorno, instrument for searching of the non-identical). Output is then reinterpreted theory of singularity as a synthesis – by Adorno we talking about initial identical extricated from its emancipatory frame, from its false totality.

According to Carl Sagan, the American astrophysicist, we are approaching an inevitable type-1 Kardashev civilized existence. An artificial superintelligence superior to that of humans can concur with a higher-hierarchy Kardashev civilization. Futuristic technological innovations mandate an acceleration in artificial intelligence and superintelligence. This scenario can be pessimistic, as digital superintelligence can render human-based activities obsolete. However, integrating artificial intelligence with humans, via brain-computer interface technologies, can be protective. Gündelik ve global politikalar, uluslararası ilişkiler ve bağlı disiplinlerin değişim içerisinde oldukları dünyada minimum yirmi yıl sonraki paktların, savunma tercihlerinin ve güvenlik teorilerinin de köklü bir değişim içerisinde olacağı tahmin edilmektedir. Bu durumun olumlu-olumsuz yansımaları, gelecekteki koşullar ile insanların aralarındaki ilişkiler ve niyetler doğrultusunda görülecektir. Günümüzde oluşturulan teorilerin önde gelenleri irdelenerek belirli temel başlıklardaki değişimler ortaya koyulabilir ancak teori ile pratiğin yüzde yüz örtüşmesi tabiatın kurallarına aykırı bir durumu ifade etmektedir. Nüfus Demografi BM tahminlerine göre ani kitlesel ölümlerle karşılaşılmaması durumunda 2043 yılında dünyanın nüfusu 9 milyar civarında olacaktır. Yaşlanma ise kuzeyden güneye bir seyirle devam edecektir. Kadınların sosyal ve iş hayatına daha fazla dahil olmalarıyla boşanma oranları artacak, babasız çocuklar sendromu yaygınlaşacaktır. Bu durumda geliştirilme amaçlarının insanlığa hizmet ve insanların daha konforlu bir yaşam standartına erişebilmesi olduğu belirtilen akıllı makinalar ve dijital aktörler muhtemelen standart insanların rakipleri sonraki aşamada ise standart insanları egale edebilecek sistemin ana unsurları konumuna yükseleceklerdir. Özellikle iş dünyasında, insan-robot ve dijital ile ilgili çözüm önerileri içeren teoriler bulunmaktadır. Felaket senaryosu insanların topyekun iş kayıbına uğrayacakları ve huzur bulamayacakları olurken en iyimser senaryo ise insanların çalışmayı hobi olarak üstleneceği arta kalan zamanları ise sosyalleşme ve dijital entegreye ayıracağı yönündeki saptamalardır.

Due to development of science we are in the situation of an intervention in the complex area of nature without being able to yet identify the inflection point from which the artificial created by the natural man becomes in turn natural. Perhaps this is just another strong sense of singularity, Consciousness Singularity (CS) is the key moment of this transition. By CS we understand the ability of a consciousness to understand what consciousness is. It is to know in a scientific sense, that brings along prediction with it, the possibility to create a consciousness, finalizing the status of human creator. Instead of the leap assumed by TS the key challenge is the "revolution of consciousness", generated by the new understanding of humanity brought along by CS. Most of the arguments in favour of Technological Singularity (TS) involves the possibility of a qualitative leap based on the quantitative accumulation, missing the problem represented by the knowledge of consciousness. We cannot predict the time / period when the CS occurs or provide strong arguments for the burst of the CS. We think, however, that TS assumes CS. Namely, that the debate about TS is really about CS. The prediction of CS consequences is impossible. The study of consciousness inevitably changes the human’s image and that of the society, finally resulting in the redefining of humanity. Contrary to many expectations emerged on the marketplace of ideas, it is not the switch to trans-humanism the one that will characterize such a change, but the redefining of the humane. Not the post-humanism, but the new humanism is the social-moral objective of the socio-moral consciousness research results. The main feature of the humane is the all-humane: the tendency of people to remain within the humanity regardless of the severity of the practiced behaviours.

RESUMO

Resumo: O trabalho procura pensar uma pedagogia da singularidade. Ele consta de quatro seções e um adendo. A primeira seção caracteriza o modelo escolar de educação partindo dos conceitos de transmissão, desigualdade e controle e indicando como aí a “universalidade abstrata” do saber não coaduna com uma educação que se quer democrática. A segunda começa com a ideia (comum) de democracia como “governo de todos” e passa pela compreensão do poder nesse regime como de todos e de ninguém (como lugar de qualquer um) para chegar à ideia de singularidade. A terceira descreve da singularidade como fundamento e sentido da democracia. A quarta extrai algumas consequências da ideia de singularidade para a educação, opondo simetricamente comunidade a transmissão, igualdade a desigualdade, risco a controle, “universalidade concreta” do pensamento a “universalidade abstrata” do saber. O adendo esboça a aplicação de uma pedagogia da singularidade nos limites da (sala de) aula.

NOTES FOR A PEDAGOGY OF SINGULARITY

Abstract: The work aims to think a singularity's pedagogy. It has four sections and one addendum. The first section does a synthetic characterization of the traditional model of education from the concepts of transmission, inequality and control, indicating how the “abstract universality” of knowledge doesn't go with an education that wants to be democratic. The second begins with the (common) idea of democracy as “government of everybody” and pass through the comprehension of the power in a democratic regime as of everybody and nobody (as place of any- and everyone) to arrive at the singularity's idea. The third describes the singularity as ground and sense of democracy. The fourth extracts some consequences from the idea of singularity for the education, opposing community to transmission, equality to inequality, risk to control, “concrete universality” of thought to “abstract universality” of knowledge. The addendum sketches the application of singularity's pedagogy in the class(room)'s limits.

Sommario: Il lavoro cerca di pensare una pedagogia della singolarità. Esso c'è quattro sezioni ed un'appendice. La prima sezione caratterizza il modello di educazione della scuola partendo dai concetti di transmissione, disuguaglianza e controllo e indicando come l'“universalità astratta” del sapere presente lì non si accorda con un'educazione che vuol esser democratica. La seconda inizia con l'idea (comune) di democrazia come “governo di tutti” e passando attraverso la comprensione del potere in questo regime come di tutti e di nessuno (como il luogo di qualunque) giunge all'idea di singolarità. La terza descrive la singolarità come fondamento e senso della democrazia. La quarta trae alcune consequenze dell'idea di singolarità per l'educazione, opponendo simmetricamente communità a transmissione, uguaglianza a disuguaglianza, rischio a controllo, “universalità concreta” del pensiero a “universalità astratta” del sapere. L'appendice abbozza un'applicazione di una pedagogia della singolarità nei limiti dell'aula.

This paper introduces Deleuze’s philosophy of becoming in a system theoretic framework and proposes an alternative ontological foundation to the study of systems and complex systems in particular. A brief critique of systems theory and the difficulties apparent in it is proposed as an introduction to the discussion. Following is an overview aimed at providing access to the ‘big picture’ of Deleuze’s revolutionary philosophical system with emphasis on a system theoretic approach and terminology. The major concepts of Deleuze’s ontology—difference, virtuality, multiplicity, assemblages, quasi-causation, becoming (individuation), intensity and progressive determination are introduced and discussed. Deleuze’s work is a radical departure from the dogma of western philosophy that guides the foundations of science and systems theory. It replaces identity with difference and being with becoming; in other words, it provides systems theory with an ontological ground based on change, heterogeneity and the inexhaustible novelty-producing process that underlies all phenomena. The conceptual tools made available by this philosophy seem to capture the fundamental aspects of complexity and complex systems much better than the current conceptual system that is based on static transcendent ontological entities.

Diğer hayvanların güçlü kasları ve pençeleri var, bizimse daha akıllı beyinlerimiz. Genel zekâ bakımından sahip olduğumuz mütevazı üstünlük sayesinde dil, teknoloji ve karmaşık bir toplumsal örgütlenme geliştirmeyi başardık. Bu üstünlük, her kuşağın öncekilerin başarılarına yenilerini eklemesiyle zaman içinde daha da ilerledi. Bir gün insan beynini aşan makine beyinler yaratmayı başarırsak, o zaman bu yeni süper zekâ çok güçlü hale gelebilir. Nasıl ki şu an gorillerin kaderi biz insanlara bağımlıysa, bizim türümüzün kaderi de makine süper zekâsının eylemlerine bağlı olabilir. Ancak bizim de bir üstünlüğümüz var: yapay zekâyı insanlar yaratacak. İnsani değerleri koruyacak bir tür süper zekâ yaratabiliriz. Bunu yapmak için kesinlikle güçlü bir nedenimiz olacaktır.

Nick Bostrom, süper zekâ olasılığının sunduğu zorluğu ve buna en iyi şekilde nasıl yanıt verebileceğimizi anlamaya çalışıyor. İnsanlığın geçmişten bu yana karşılaştığı en büyük zorluk budur demek yanlış olmaz. Bu işi başaralım ya da başaramayalım, muhtemelen karşılaşıp karşılaşacağımız son zorluk olacak.

Zekânın doğasını detaylıca inceleyen bu kitap, doğal ve yapay zekânın içeriğini ve sınırlarını kapsamlı bir şekilde sunuyor. Gelecek belki doğal, belki de yapay zekânın elinde olacak ama kesin olan bir şey varsa, zekâ evrendeki varlığını sürdürecek.

Solving electromagnetic(EM) problems by integral
equation methods relies on the accurate evaluation of singular integrals related to the Green’s function. In the method of moments(MoM) with the Rao-Wilton-Glisson (RWG) basis function for solving surface integral equations (SIEs), the gradient operator on the scalar Green’s function can be moved onto the basic function and testing function, resulting in a 1=R weak singularity in the integral kernel, where R is the distance between
an observation point and a source point. The weakly singular integral can be evaluated with the well-known Duffy’s method, but it requires a two-fold numerical integration. In this work, we develop a novel approach to evaluate the singular integral by using a local polar coordinate system. The approach can automatically cancel the singularity and reduce the integral to a one-fold numerical integration by deriving a closed-form
expression for the integral over the polar coordinate. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

La singolarità è la pluralità che io sono, delle emozioni e esperienze con cui il mondo mi attraversa, ogni momento. Sedimenta milioni di immagini che ridisegnano continuamente, impercettibilmente il mio profilo intimo sotto la mia pelle. La singolarità eccede il mio volume interno e permea tutto l’esterno. È il punto di soglia che filtra l’uno nell’altro. La sua densità è tale che precipitare dentro è irresistibile e si precipita senza accorgersi, come nel sonno, cade la distinzione tra io, me e sè. L’io delle idee e desideri mercificabili torna nella singolarità del sé, la vertigine di forze indominabili. Il tempo che non passa perché è tutto il tempo che io sono. Sottratto alla morsa del tempo, finalmente coincido con il mondo stesso.
Anche i luoghi hanno una dimensione interiore e esteriore, sono singolarità. Per questo eccedono ogni cartografia e sistema cartesiano, attraverso il quale ci illudiamo di conoscerli, controllarli. La singolarità sta ai luoghi come l’individualità sta allo spazio. La mappa spesso è un dato opaco per la geografia quanto lo è per la storia il freddo computo dei morti di una guerra, della quale dice di più una pagina di Hemingway o di Montale. I modelli riportati in queste pagine cercano una via di accesso al paesaggio attraverso le sue emozioni. Stanno alla geografia come la letteratura sta alla storia. Dei quindici luoghi selezionati non tentano una descrizione, una forma di dominio, semplicemente li evocano, lasciandosi emozionare a loro volta. Trainati per le cime e gli abissi interiori di memoria e attesa dei luoghi, i modelli a loro volta trainano chi si presta al rituale-gioco della loro realizzazione. Conducono verso l’extra-territorialità di uno spazio e un tempo altri dal quotidiano, dalle sue leggi usuali. Con la loro lentezza prendono tempo cronologico e restituiscono un tempo senza lancette. Ci sottraggono allo sfondo anonimo dello spazio e ci restituiscono alla singolarità che noi siamo.

This paper introduces Deleuze’s philosophy of becoming in system theoretic terms and proposes an alternative ontological foundation to the study of systems and complex systems in particular. A brief critique of system theory and difficulties apparent in it is proposed as an initial motivation to the discussion. Following is an overview aiming to provide an access to the ‘big picture’ of Deleuze’s revolutionary philosophical system with emphasize on a system theoretic approach and terminology. The major concepts of Deleuze’s ontology - difference, virtuality, multiplicity, assemblages, quasi-causation, becoming (individuation), intensity and progressive determination are introduced and discussed in some length. Deleuze’s work is a radical departure from the dogma of western philosophy that also guides the foundations of science and system theory. It replaces identity with difference and being with becoming, in other words, it provides system theory with an ontological ground based on change, heterogeneity and inexhaustible novelty-producing process that underlies all phenomena. The conceptual tools made available by this philosophy seem to capture the fundamental aspects of complexity and complex systems much better than the current conceptual system that is based on static transcendental ontological entities.

This research aims to analyze from a legal perspective and various epistemological frames, a paper refered to human rights, in relation to transhumanism and posthumanism. It will be taken as the central axis, the biotechnology, being more than an object but as an extension of the human body, in order to demonstrate cases of fundamental rights violations of those people who improve themselves technologically, whether by balancing a deficit to improve physical or mental abilities, in harmony with the the progressiveness of rights.

The book addresses the questions: can the machine (AI) brain can be more creative than the human brain?; What the human journalist must do to win the war with the robot journalist; how the new automatic newsroom will look like, and how the new technologies including Immersive technologies (the Metaverse…) will affect journalistic story telling. The book was translated to Chinese by Tsinghua University Press.

The authors quantitatively analyse the long-term dynamics of technological progress from 40,000 BCE and offer projections through the 22nd century. We provide one method to measure technological progress over that time period, using a simple hyperbolic equation, yt = C/(t0 – t), as our model. We define yt as the
technological growth rate, measured as number of technological phase transitions per unit of time. Our method measures the worldwide technology dynamic growth
with an accuracy of R2 = 0.99. We find the singularity date occurs in the early 21st century and expect a new powerful acceleration of technological development
after the 2030s followed by a slow-down in the late 21st and early 22nd centuries. The authors discuss the role of global ageing as one of the main factors in both the technological acceleration and the subsequent deceleration.

A partir de mi experiencia en la clínica psicoanalítica y en la danza-improvisación, revisito y amplifico la tesis doctoral y algunos ensayos anteriores. Persigo una filosofía de lo carnal apuntada por Maine de Biran a través de la teoría del trauma delineada por Sigmund Freud y de la hermenéutica nacionalsocialista de Martin Heidegger para rescatar la intuición mística del cuerpo disuelto en la práctica artística de la performance.

A la performance académica -y traumática- del debate Searle-Derrida, paradigma de deshonestidad intelectual y crisis de la universidad, contrapongo los estudios de Jerzy Grotowski, el Kundance de Dominik Borucki y el método Gaga de Ohad Naharin como prácticas de disolución del cuerpo social que nos acercan a la realidad del cuerpo continuo.

La hipótesis de trabajo consiste en que solo superficialmente somos cuerpos contiguos, por lo que no solo no existe "individuo" sino que también "la sociedad" carece de existencia. Abstract: Hannah Arendt’s The Human Condition is frequently read as offering a “theory” of what it means to be human. But the bite of Arendt’s book is to think through the transformation of the human condition in the Modern Age. She argues that the rise of a scientific worldview fundamentally alters the earthly and worldly conditions in which human beings live. Since humans are conditioned beings, the change from our pre-modern subjection to fate to our modern human capacity to create a humanly built world threatens a fundamental shift in human being. The transformation Arendt describes is the loss of our human plurality to a technological singularity. She argues, however, that we can choose to hold on to our humanity if persist in thinking, and thus preserve our human spontaneity and freedom.

Ray Kurzweil and others have posited that the confluence of nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, and genetic engineering will soon produce posthuman beings that will far surpass us in power and intelligence. Just as black holes constitute a ldquo;singularityrdquo; from which no information can escape, posthumans will constitute a ldquo;singularity:rdquo; whose aims and capacities lie beyond our ken. I argue that technological posthumanists, whether wittingly or unwittingly, draw upon the long-standing Christian discourse of ldquo;theosis,rdquo; according to which humans are capable of being God or god-like. From St. Paul and Luther to Hegel and Kurzweil, the idea of human self-deification plays a prominent role. Hegel in particular emphasizes that God becomes wholly actualized only in the process by which humanity achieves absolute consciousness. Despite its recent popularity, Emergence is still a field where philosophers and physicists often talk past each other. In fact, while philosophical discussions focus mostly on ontological emergence, physical theory is inherently limited to the epistemological level and the impossibility of its conclusions to provide direct evidence for ontological claims is often underestimated. Nevertheless, the emergentist philosopher’s case against reductionist theories of how the different levels of reality are related to each other can still gain from the assessment of paradigmatic examples of discontinuity between models in physics, even though their implications must be handled with care.

While Nick Bostrom offers some issues of concern on the topics of Transhumanism, Transcendence, Superintelligence, and the Singularity, Ray Kurzweil sees only potential.  These two authors offer a wide range of ideas on the potential of Transhumanism, not all of which agree, except for the fact that the way humanity currently lives may change greatly.  The question to ask is this: Will the age of Transhumanism bring humanity closer together or push people apart?
