Pakistani TV news channels have greater viewership than any entertainment channel which shows the political
interest of Pakistani citizenry. This study deals with the consumption of TV news channels and its effects on the
political participation, political knowledge and civic engagement of youth. Data collected from respondents
(N = 246) of six different universities in two urban cities Islamabad and Lahore, showed that social
connectedness and civic engagement of youth influenced the political participation while political knowledge
was not affected. TV news channels consumption exhibited positive correlation with the political participation,
political knowledge and civic participation as well as likelihood to cast vote. Though, this study did not trace the
cause and effect relationship of TV news channels consumption with political participation, political knowledge
and civic engagement.

TV news is a visual medium that requires its on-air journalists to look good, but a history of lawsuits and survey research suggests that this burden is spread unevenly. Critics charge that women are expected to look younger and sexier, and minority broadcasters are held to a White standard of beauty. This project investigated the reality behind those complaints by examining the faces of on-air journalists working for local stations in the US according to race, gender, and attractiveness. The resulting content analysis of more than 400 online publicity photos suggests that a certain look dominates for men and for women and that the range of appearance standards is wider for men than women.

Este artículo analiza las rutinas periodísticas y contenidos deportivos de Noticias Uno, noticiero de televisión colombiano, con el fin de determinar si su información deportiva cumple con criterios de calidad. Asimismo, se consulta a expertos para conocer su opinión sobre lo que es hoy y debería ser un periodismo deportivo de excelencia. Para ello, se entrevista en profundidad a los reporteros de deportes del informativo y al grupo de expertos, y se analizan los contenidos de 306 de los segmentos de Noticias Uno, correspondientes a los años 2012 y 2013. Los resultados apuntan a que la información atlética y competitiva cumple con algunos indicadores de calidad como la confrontación de fuentes y la contextualización, lo cual contribuye a que Noticias Uno sea un referente de un buen periodismo. De hecho, este medio ha ganado el premio India Catalina al mejor noticiero del país desde el 2010 hasta el 2015. Sin embargo, la información deportiva debe avanzar la definición de otros indicadores de calidad como la variedad temática y de enfoque para narrar deportes minoritarios y mayoritarios.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the journalistic routines and the sports contents of Noticias Uno, Colombian TV news, in order to identify whether its sports information meet quality criteria. Here also consult experts for knowing their points view what it is and it should be the excellence sports journalism. For this, two sports journalistic and a group of experts are interviewed in-depth. Furthermore, an analysis of contents is made to 306 segments of Noticias Uno, for years 2012 and 2013. The results suggest that sports information fitful some indicators of excellence as the confrontation of sources and contextualization, which helps Noticias Uno is a benchmark of good journalism. In fact, this media has won the India Catalina award for best TV news in the country from 2010 to 2015. However, the sports information must advance in the definition of other quality indicators as the variety of themes and approach to narrative minority and majority sports.

This study sought to determine how convergence is defined by the journalists involved and to identify areas where news operations that adopt convergence encounter language- and culture-based challenges. It draws on the developing literature of convergence and interviews with journalists and managers working at two convergence partnerships: the Tampa Tribune and WFLA-TV in Tampa, Florida, and the Arizona Republic and KPNX-TV in Phoenix, Arizona. The research, based in the Shoemaker and Reese theory of a hierarchy of influences on media content,
showed that convergence was redefined in Phoenix, creating a less-integrated ‘‘co-(re)-recreating’’ model not previously described in the literature. In addition, it demonstrated that though
language differences do not hamper convergence cooperation, different broadcast and print newsroom cultures can prove detrimental."

Para la elaboración del libro Información periodística en televisión (Editorial Síntesis, 2107) se realizó un cuestionario personalizado a un conjunto de profesionales de primera fila de TVE y rtve.es. Treinta y un profesionales han respondido a estos cuestionarios que reúnen un total de 108 preguntas. El conjunto de las respuestas supone una visión global del estado de la televisión informativa de enorme relevancia. La televisión informativa sigue siendo el medio por el que se informa la mayoría de la pobla-ción, por mucho que reciban informaciones de otros medios tradicionales y, sobre todo, de las plataformas interactivas. Ciertamente, hay que formar a los estudiantes de periodismo en los nue-vos perfiles profesionales que estas plataformas están conformando. Pero sigue siendo impres-cindible una capacitación completa y de calidad en televisión informativa, no solo por la impor-tancia del medio y la demanda de profesionales que requiere, sino porque formando en un lenguaje informativo audiovisual se está dando una base sólida para el lenguaje multimedia. La experiencia de profesionales muy capacitados es una herencia que hay que transmitir a las jóvenes generaciones. Las respuestas aquí recopiladas y utilizadas como una fuente más en el libro Información periodística en televisión no son una encuesta sociológicamente representativa, pero presentan bien el estado actual del periodismo televisivo y, sobre todo, recogen experiencias cuyo conocimiento resultará de gran valor a los jóvenes periodistas. En los perfiles solo se recogen de las funciones de estos profesionales y sus responsabilidades más destacadas, pero no necesariamente su puesto actual.

In early May of 2014, the city of Odessa became the scene of violent clashes between pro-Russian and pro-Ukraine activists, resulting in nearly 50 casualties. Commentators on Russian TV reacted immediately and presented a highly biased interpretation of what had taken place in Odessa. This article examines the representation of the events in Russian news broadcasts and TV talk shows. The focus lies on ‘alternative’ news and the ‘fabrication’ of facts on the one hand, and on atrocity narratives as a highly effective means of attracting and stimulating the viewers’ attention on the other. Furthermore, questions concerning the interaction of the supposedly ‘old’ media of TV and the ‘new’ digital media will shed light on propaganda strategies and techniques, which while definitely not new in their general features, have changed significantly with respect to their potential impact and to new possibilities of dissemination.

The political life presentation on media screens (politics screen, the screen of politics) is transformed increasingly to the format of show and entertainment. This article attempts to address practices such presentations in consideration of three accent made. Firstly, accent is connected with consideration of the predominantly modern Russian experience of presenting political life in the screen media culture. This experience is intensively transformed, therefore its comprehension is important not only in the actual context, but also for subsequent systematization. Secondly, emphasis is on the styling of positioning and promotion of personal brands of contemporary Russian politicians in the media space. Thirdly, focus is due to the emotional component of the contemporary political life presentation in the Russian screen culture. That emotional context determines the estimated relationships of meaning. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the transmission of intolerance and aggression towards political opponents, or also their mocking. On the one hand, the simplification of emotional narratives reduces political participation in the passive consumption of the ready show, giving new opportunities to «screen politics», mass political manipulation. On the other hand, this involves extra efforts to the search for forms of real political participation.

«Экран политики», то есть презентация политической жизни на медийных экранах во все большей степени трансформируется к формату зрелища и развлечения. Данная статья содержит попытку рассмотрения практик такой презентации. В рассмотрении сделаны три акцента. Первый акцент связан с рассмотрением преимущественно современного российского опыта представления политической жизни в экранной медийной культуре. Этот опыт интенсивно трансформируется, поэтому его осмысление важно не только в актуальном контексте, но и для последующих систематизаций. Второй акцент сделан на стилистике позиционирования и продвижения личностных брендов современных российских политиков в медийном пространстве. Третий акцент обусловлен эмоциональной составляющей презентации современной политической жизни в российской экранной культуре. Именно эмоциональный контекст предопределяет оценочные отношения в смыслообразовании. При этом преимущественно транслируется нетерпимость и агрессия по отношению к политическим оппонентам, или также их высмеиванию. Тенденция к упрощению эмоциональных нарративов в еще большей степени редуцирует политическое участие в пассивное потребление готового зрелища, давая новые возможности «политике экрана», массового политического манипулирования — с одной стороны. А с другой — предполагает дополнительные усилия, поиск форм реального политического участия.

This study aimed to identify form and content in Arabic-language newscasts in non-Arab TV outlets. Specifically, it examined the broadcast news in The BBC, Al-Hurra, Russia Today and France24 news during March 2013. Data analysis indicated almost of half of the news topics focused on political news. Regarding geographic location news focused most on the Arab world. Overall, many similarities among the four channels were evident. Non-significant differences emerged regarding explanatory elements and news topics.

Okuyacağınız araştırmanın konusu 10 Ekim 2016 tarihinde Ankara’da sivillere yönelik gerçekleştirilen IŞİD katliamı sonrası Türkiye’de hem karasal, hem uydusal, hem de dijital ortamlarda izlenebilen yaygın CNNTürk kanalında yer alan haberlerin içerik analizidir. Haberler, titiz bir kodlama sonrasında çerçeve analizi yöntemiyle incelenirken, haber içeriklerinde kullanılan olgular, rakamlar, görüşlerine başvurulan kaynaklar, referans verilen kişiler, olay ve durumlar için getirilen tanımlamalar, haberde üretilen dil ve anlam biçimleri dikkate alınmıştır. Ekte bulacağınız kodlama formundan da anlaşılacağı gibi, Ankara Katliamına ilişkin haberlerin süresi, olayların tanımlanma biçimi, kullanılan kaynakların hangi siyasi görüşü ve ideolojik arka planı temsil ettikleri, haberlerde üretilen temel argümanlar çerçevesinde analiz edilmiştir.
