"Trainee teachers following the three-year undergraduate BEd course at the University of Wolverhampton undertake a final-year research study. This project requires each individual to investigate an aspect of teaching and learning within an early years or primary school setting.

Reflections on Research presents, in publication, a selection of these final-year projects completed by trainee teachers in 2008 and 2009.

The students themselves have looked back upon the project to critically evaluate the positive and not so positive elements of their investigation. They also considered how what they did as student teachers remains relevant to what they do now as qualified professionals working in the classroom.

Aim: To find out whether success in medical Entry Test has any impact on future grades of students in Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Methodology: This is an analytical study conducted in Khyber Medical College, Peshawar from 3rd April, 2016 to 30th May, 2016. The marks obtained in medical Entry Test and 1st Professional MBBS were compared using Pearson Correlation. Data was obtained from appropriate sources and then its evaluation was done. Findings: This study found that there is a Pearson Correlation of 0.303(moderate) between Entry Test marks and the first professional MBBS marks. The scatter plot shows a positive relation between the two, which means that if one increases, so will the other. The p value of less than 0.000 was obtained. Conclusion: Student’s performance in entry test can be a predictability factor for success later on during his undergraduate years. Today, the spread of the use of the Internet has led to the growth of explosive web design. Millions of users worldwide perform many of their important and vital activities through these websites and in the world of the Internet. This has turned the world of the Internet into a vast repository of information, information that is often important and vital, and whose security and proper protection are of paramount importance. The importance of protecting the information of Internet users requires the secure design of websites. To do this, web designers need to be familiar with the types of attacks and tricks that threaten data security and to consider the security points needed in their designs to prevent them. The SQL Injection attack is one of the most common types of attacks that threaten the security of data stored in a database connected to a website. SQL Injection Attacks. It manipulates and changes to achieve a different goal than the original goal. This type of attack can perform various operations from data recovery to removal from the relevant database. In this project, an attempt has been made to get acquainted with this type of attack and also to examine some ways of securing against this type of attack. For this purpose, to better understand the issue, examples have been used to implement the desired examples of ASP.NET 2.0 programming facilities as well as SQL Server database management software.

Kibbe's purpose is summed up nicely in its title, “from topic to thesis.” That is, what Kibbe hopes to accomplish in the work is to guide the student in crystalizing a chosen topic into an actual working thesis. That the entire work is around 150 pages in half-size proportion makes it a book accessible to the busy student or researcher, able to be read in a few hours.

The use of questionnaires to evaluate educational initiatives is widespread, but often problematic. This paper examines four aspects of an evaluation survey carried out with very able pupils attending out-of-school classes: ethics, design, bias and interpretation. There is a particular focus on the interpretation and analysis of pupils’ answers to open questions. Conclusions are drawn from this analysis which will help teachers and others to take a careful and critical approach to their use of questionnaires in educational evaluation.

‘A Beginner’s Guide…’ is a step-by-step guide for students new to research. It covers every stage in turn, starting with learning from other research, choosing a topic, designing research questions, writing a literature review, deciding on methodology, designing research instruments, and consideration of validity and reliability; then moving to carrying out the investigation, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data and finally writing up the project. The ethical issues of doing education research are examined throughout.

Included are case studies to illustrate common problems and solutions; 14 ‘Project Sheets’ (available on this Academia page) which allow students to build up their work in stages and prepare draft text for their final written project; also key points, activities, recommended further reading and a glossary of research terms.

The book is written for undergraduate students doing education courses and Masters-level students new to research. It is relevant to students of all phases of education: early years, primary, secondary and further education, and to a range of international settings.

The research aimed to examine the level of self-concept clarity, life satisfaction, and celebrity worship syndrome and to investigate a whether correlation exist between celebrity worship syndrome in young adults and their self-concept clarity and life satisfaction. The participants of this study were composed of one hundred (n= 100) participants, fifty (n= 50) males and fifty (n= 50) female. Three questionnaires were administered through online platforms namely, Self-Concept Clarity Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Celebrity Attitude Scale, consent and personal data sheet were also obtained.

Results showed that both male and female has definite self-concept clarity, and comparison between self and celebrity influence help the individuals assess their thoughts to reduce their uncertainty. Furthermore, results showed that there is slight dissatisfaction on young adults due to life changes, however it is not related to celebrity worship syndrome because one of the major factors that influence life satisfaction is social relationships, family, friends and life achievements. Moreover, results showed that the predominant level of celebrity worship syndrome is entertainment social celebrity worship level, admiration in this level can serve as a form of entertainment and social functions. Also, the study found that there is a significant relationship between self-concept clarity and the three levels of celebrity worship syndrome. However, results showed that there is no significant relationship between life satisfaction and three levels of celebrity worship syndrome
Furthermore, future research could focus on a qualitative approach to further explore case and effect of celebrity worship syndrome on other variables.

In any given society, individuals with similar characteristics such as religion, race and age are likely to group themselves together and leave out the others with different features. One of the approaches that help in understanding the effect of stereotyping in the society is the in-group identity model, which suggests that individuals derive their sense of belonging from the social groups within their environment. Members of a society who do not belong to the major social groups are discriminated against because the in-group members raise their self-image by seeking the negative attributes of the out-group.

Students’ grades are increasingly important in defining their future employability, and therefore, securing a fair assessment of students’ theses is important. This study aimed to assess the level of grade correspondence between internal and external examiners of occupational therapy students’ bachelor theses, and to evaluate the overall level of grades initially set by examiners in the two groups. The grades initially suggested for 67 bachelor theses were analyzed. Absolute agreement between internal and external examiners was estimated as the proportion of theses on which the examiners suggested identical grades (percentage agreement), and consistency in agreement was estimated by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). There was absolute agreement between the internal and the external examiners in 33 of the 67 cases (49.3 %), and also consistency in agreement was high (ICC = 0.81, 95 % CI [0.68, 0.88], p < 0.001). This paper examines the geology of the Lagrasse area, southern France. The stratigraphy in the area ranges in age from 72ma-52ma with recent Quaternary superficial deposits noted. All the strata in the region are calcite bearing, this along with tectonic influences in the area forms the rugged valley filled landscape around Lagrasse. The area is located in the Pyrenean foothills and has noticeable deformation throughout many units especially the Ribaute Limestone, likely deformed during the Eocene. The tectonic processes before the Eocene that led to the formation of the Pyrenees are also responsible for the depositional environments of the strata. The depositional settings are controlled by related processes such as foreland basin formation. The rugged landscape created makes the region prone to flooding with narrow valleys that have to share waterways and roads making natural disasters ever present in the area such as disastrous floods in 1999 and 2014.

The existence of market confidence is intrinsic to the efficient operation of the stock market, with the accuracy of pricing resting on pertinent information being available to individuals at all times. UK regulators historically relied on fines to punish and contain the market abuses, which were widely ineffectual, prompting the Financial Services Authority to issue a Statement of Intent to use its powers to enforce the statutory legislation regulating manipulation of the share market. This essay seeks to analyse the disparities between the Criminal Justice Act 1993 ('CJA 1993') and the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 ('FSMA 2000'), with due regard paid to the development of the essential elements of the offense by common law based on the enforcement of either statute and European Union legislation.

This is a story of solo expedition experiences and reflective practice towards Professional Development as a Mountain Leader. The narrative style has  permitted an exploration of thoughts, feelings and reflections which, combined with poetry, drawings and diary entries, illustrate a path of learning and help to communicate intellectual sense-making. Whilst this prose may differ from a traditional dissertation style, you are invited on a journey through the complexities of early family influences to become adventurous, to expedition  planning for Mountain Leadership Assessment, field research about solo expeditions and philosophical reasoning to dig deeper for understandings of experience. This has culminated in a reflective model, a Jar Analogy of  Reflection (aided and abetted by Winnie The Pooh). The paper concludes that the three mountaineering trips undertaken, whilst demanding at the time, were actually a means to a higher educational end. That is, the academic challenges to make sense of being solo proved to be just as arduous, risky and taxing,  being subject to constant critical judgements for perfection, and in so doing feeding a voracious curiosity for learning.

Human beings have been blessed on this earth with the innate
ability to acquire and use complex systems of communication and
to experience a multitude of environments through the use of our
senses; sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. However for those
born without the privilege of one sensory system experience a very
unique sensation of the environment around them.
This dissertation puts into spotlight the hearing impaired
population in India. Of every 1000 babies born in India, 4 are born
deaf or with auditory impairment. They are born in this world of
silence where they are unable to express themselves due to the
lack of awareness regarding their mother tongue, Indian Sign
Language. Most deaf people in India have not had access to learn
Indian Sign Language and most of them have not completed basic
education due to the stigmatization of deafness in the society.
Despite efforts by the government, they remain marginalised due to
their "disability". Lack of resources and education facilities remain
one of the primary concerns hampering their upliftment. Due to the
communicative disconnect between the hearing world and the non
hearing world, they are forced to adapt in a built environment which
is not considerate to their unique culture.
Through this research, an in-depth understanding of the
needs of the deaf population of our country is analysed, with
respect to space, infrastructure, education facilities and economic
upliftment. By studying how deaf view space and the social
problems in our country faced by a rather neglected part of our
society, and associating this cause to one of the most dignified
institutions of the country in Shantiniketan, and by making an
attempt to place this intention in the ethos of the environment, I
wish to take forward the idea of inclusive design and implement
phenomenological ideas to the ambiguous vastness of space
as viewed by the Deaf, aiming to empower by means of social
inclusion and architectural intervention.

In the Western context the post-Cold War perception of Russian culture and history is routinely propagated as pejorative. Based on the political motivations of the US this political hangover is manifested in numerous, complex ways, from the popular culture of this dominant world power, to its mass media. This narrow, linear view serves to diminish and undermine the complexity of the post-Soviet context in not only our Western contemporary popular culture, but also in art, denying the optimism that was inherently a part of this revolutionary moment in world history.

My research is situated amongst artists with a Russian background who oppose this presiding narrative and in a post-Soviet era my research engages with a return to Soviet aesthetics and utopianism, as well as the construction of a shifting cultural identity. Theorists such as Alexei Yurchak, Mikhail Bakhtin, Boris Groĭs, Ekaterina Degot and Svetlana Boym, investigate the various ideologies and theories that surround the polemical nature of Soviet culture and history. They discuss the subjectivities of artists whose identity has been formed in the post-Soviet time, and their manifestation of a new a Soviet romanticism.

ABSTRACT

This research explores the 2001 anime Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro Kamikakushi) by Hayao Miyazaki as a textbook on teaching and education. The critical pedagogy found in the film directly and indirectly challenges the Western dominant views on the values of childhood and children’s culture represented in Western and American products of animation such as those by Walt Disney Studio. As animation lies in the overlapped realm between popular culture children’s culture, between entertainment and education, between institutionalized knowledge and life lessons, the analysis of the film in an educational perspective relies a great deal on the willingness of educators to be flexible in approach and interpretation. The research attempts to validate a different method of childhood treatment in producing animation from the simplistic and sanitized fantasy created for “childhood innocence” that people have taken for granted. It reveals the complicated nature of parenting and informal education within capitalist societies in the context of consumerism by analyzing Spirited Away’s narrative, character development, and symbolism. The conclusions drawn from the main analysis confirm the validity and significance of Miyazaki’s worldviews on childhood, fantasy, and education as a reflection of American and Japanese cultures.

The purpose of this research was to determine whether different music types or music
pace had an affect in solving math problems for university students. Measurements were
collected from 37 undergraduate students. Each student completed a math questionnaire
consisting of 34 math questions in a 3-minute time period... The hypotheses stated that fast song
groups would receive a lower score compared to slow music groups whereas groups with music
and lyrics would score lower than those without lyrics. Results have rejected both of the
hypotheses stated in the study, showing that neither music type nor pace have any significant
effect when solving math problems, and thus, they have no effect on math-solving ability.

This thesis deals with Philippine higher and lower mythology. Terms such as the Aswang were semantically deconstructed to delineate between the different aspects and connotations on what the Philippine idea of different types of halimaw can be represented by one lexical item. Themes and motifs of Philippine myths were extracted from different mythological stories. Philippine higher mythology was organized by ethnolinguistic group in terms of cosmogony, cosmology, the conceptualization of the soul and the deities associated. Philippine lower mythology and the creatures associated were given a new classification.

Abstract

This thesis aims to explore the presence of internalised racism amongst Malay youths and how this has affected their responses towards stereotypes of Malays in Singapore. In doing so, this thesis contributes to the discourse on internalised racism in the local Singaporean Malay context which is sorely lacking. It has been found here how the responses of Malay youths towards stereotypes reproduces, directly or indirectly, these stereotypes. Internalised racism has led to Malay youths to associate with or disassociate themselves from Malays in general. Other forms of differentiation like class can also be observed in some cases. Yet, there are also those who show signs of rejecting stereotypes.

ABSTRACT

Harry Potter and the adventure he sets off on have enchanted people for over ten years now. Some love it, some hate it; some wrote numerous books and research papers on it. Harry Potter is an orphaned boy whose parents were murdered at the hand of the darkest wizard of all ages, Lord Voldemort. He was brought to live with his dreadful relatives, the Dursleys, and when he was eleven years old, he found out from a letter coming from a magical school called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that he was actually a wizard. It was only after he started his education that he found out he was somehow linked to that darkest wizard and expected to destroy him. The interesting part of Harry Potter’s journey is that it follows the basic structure that each and every hero one way or another goes through. In his The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell calls it monomyth, that is to say one myth. This concept is closely linked to Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung’s opinions on the archetypes. According to the monomyth structure, the hero starts his journey with Departure, faces temptations and very dangerous, life-changing trials in Initiation. The Return is the last section in which he comes back from his journey with the knowledge and wisdom he gains through those trials, and is expected to heal the world(s) he lives in.

There are countless mythological allusions in the Harry Potter series that enable us to connect Harry and his exploits to many mythical figures and events respectively. Just as Cerberus is illustrated as a three-headed dog guarding the gates of Hades in Greek mythology, in Harry Potter it has the same guarding job and is responsible for the protection of the entrance to the Philosopher’s Stone. Phoenix, Basilisk and many other connections and symbols are fittingly discussed and put into the storyline to enrich it. These connections and the choices Harry makes throughout his adventure help us understand why and how Harry is considered to be a hero.

Fishkill had been a common cause of problem on aquaculture and socioeconomic aspect of the Municipality of Lake Sebu. This study aims to improve the management of aquaculture in the area by correlating the relationship between the atmospheric temperature and humidity, and the bacterial load of Nile tilapia and water. A total of thirty (30) Nile tilapia samples and water were involved in this research. Using selective agars to isolate bacteria from the samples, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., and Vibrio spp. had been detected and counted with ease, while the water samples had been tested for detection of bacteria by a diagnostic laboratory. Then, the results were correlated to the data gathered from the annual atmospheric humidity and temperature of Lake Sebu and Lake Seloton.

Statistically and through gross visual inspection, Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. have significant difference, while Vibrio spp. do not have significant difference. From this study, the potential of bacteria to confer with its external factors, atmospheric temperature and humidity, is highly observed.

"Project Summary

In brief, we wanted to develop the student guidelines that we had already drafted in ourdepartment, mainly by listening to colleagues and identifying areas of best practice. In addition,we wanted to hear students talk about their experiences of supervision and theirrecommendations for improving quality. Our aim was to produce a set of guidelines that could beused by colleagues across the UK. Once we secured the funding from the LTSN, we collecteddata from both supervisors and students.A key feature of the project was the supervisor workshop (April, 2002). We were pleased that50 colleagues came to participate in the workshop from all over the UK (36 institutions wererepresented). We were fortunate also in having Professor Wendy Hollway (Open University) givethe keynote address, which usefully focussed on the regulatory climate surrounding qualitativeresearch in psychology. She also urged the audience to think carefully about theory in qualitativeresearch, notably with regard to generalisation, subjectivity and ethics. The day’s programmethen centred around small group discussions of the following key questions:

What makes a good undergraduate qualitative project? Give examples of good and badwork

Which qualitative methods are most appropriate for undergraduate level projects, and why?

How much data should students collect at this level, and what are the factors whichmediate this question?

What are the key ethical issues generated by undergraduate qualitative research, and howcan these be addressed?"

In Scotland, the whisky industry contributes significantly to the economy, supporting more than 35,000 jobs. It is due to the large scale of whisky production in Scotland and the volatile nature of one of the main ingredients, that health and safety controls and regulations are prominent in all of Scotland’s 98 active malt whisky distilleries. Generally, in a whisky production and storage facility, whisky concentrations from 80 % down to 40 % alcohol by volume (abv) are present from maturation through to storage and bottling. Although the flammable ethanol in whisky has been diluted with water, thus, reducing the fire hazards, the significance and magnitudes of the remaining fire hazards are not well understood.

The aim of this project was to gain a better understanding, whilst considering fire safety design, of the fire risks and hazards of whisky concentrations in the range of 40 to 80 % abv that may be present as a spill in a whisky production and storage facility. Through a literature survey, it was found that there was little evidence of research that had been conducted into the burning characteristics of ethanol diluted with water, which can accurately represent whisky for experimental purposes. Accordingly, it was found that performing flash point tests on concentrations in this range could identify ignition risks. Further, to determine the fire hazards posed by a whisky pool fire that may occur as a result of an ignition source coming into contact with a spill, the heat release and mass loss rates of burning pools of whisky were studied in a laboratory by method of oxygen consumption calorimetry.

Results from flash point testing recorded values of between 29.4 °C and 22.6 °C for concentrations of 40 to 80 % abv when the gas phase was sealed above the liquid, signifying that whisky at 80 % abv presents a much greater risk of ignition at room temperature. Having said this, pool fire tests found that all concentrations could be ignited by a single match with up to 10 seconds of local heating of the liquid from the flame. Consequently, in the event of a whisky spill, it was concluded that many higher energy ignition sources may be present in a distillery that could potentially ignite all concentrations of interest, resulting in a pool fire.

Pool fire testing found that the heat released from higher whisky concentrations was greater, demonstrating more radiative flames as a result of incomplete combustion. Consequently, this resulted in greater heat feedback to the pool and an increase in the heat release rate per unit area for pool fires of larger surface area. Conversely, flames in pools of lower concentrations were found to radiate less heat energy and thus, were more susceptible to heat losses to the substrate in which the pool was contained, the magnitude of which, increased with pool size.

The results and analysis of the experimental research has allowed a better understanding to be gained as to the influencing mechanisms on the burning characteristics of whisky at different concentrations across different sizes of pool fire. Areas for further research have also been identified if the results are to be more closely correlated to specific scenarios and risks present in a distillery.

Terdapat kencenderungan bahwa topik skripsi mahasiswa pada program studi Informatika, Universitas Katolik Musi Charitas kurang beragam. Hal ini terlihat dari berulangnya topik-topik skripsi yang diambil mahasiswa dari semester ke semester. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh gambaran deskriptif laporan skripsi mahasiswa pada program studi Informatika, Universitas Katolik Musi Charitas. Untuk memperoleh gambaran deskriptif yang lengkap, digunakan teknik statistika deskriptif sebagai alat analisisnya. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi bagi program studi untuk menyusun topic topic-topik skripsi yang lebih beragam. Hal-hal yang dapat menjadi pertimbangan agar skripsi mahasiswa Informatika tidak monoton dan up to date adalah topik skripsi dibuat lebih beragam, model proses yang digunakan tidak selalu waterfall, analisis yang digunakan lebih disesuaikan ke kasusnya, platform yang digunakan tidak selalu berbasis desktop/windows, bahasa pemrograman juga disarankan lebih bervariasi dan tidak fokus di satu bahasa pemrograman saja, rujukan bahasa Inggris disarankan lebih diperbanyak karena dalam skripsi-skripsi tersebut masih sangat dominan menggunakan rujukan bahasa Indonesia, jenis rujukan dapat lebih diseimbangkan jumlah rujukannya, algoritma yang digunakan sudah cukup bervariasi dan dapat lebih dicermati lagi mengenai algoritma yang digunakan seharusnya sudah sesuai dengan objek dan judul skripsinya.
