Understanding subjective well-being (SWB) has historically been a core human endeavor and presently spans fields from management to mental health. Previous meta-analyses have indicated that personality traits are one of the best predictors. Still, these past results indicate only a moderate relationship, weaker than suggested by several lines of reasoning. This may be because of commensurability, where researchers have grouped together substantively disparate measures in their analyses. In this article, the authors review and address this problem directly, focusing on individual measures of personality (e.g., the Neuroticism-Extroversion-Openness Personality Inventory; P. T. Costa & R. R. McCrae, 1992) and categories of SWB (e.g., life satisfaction). In addition, the authors take a multivariate approach, assessing how much variance personality traits account for individually as well as together. Results indicate that different personality and SWB scales can be substantively different and that the relationship between the two is typically much larger (e.g., 4 times) than previous meta-analyses have indicated. Total SWB variance accounted for by personality can reach as high as 39% or 63% disattenuated. These results also speak to meta-analyses in general and the need to account for scale differences once a sufficient research base has been generated.

Background. Emotional competencies of individuals are evaluated as a form of capital today. Emotional capital has gained prominence in literature in the last decades. In this regard, qualitative and quantitative studies on emotional capital concept have been conducted. Objectives. The purpose of this study is to analyses the effect of emotional capital on job satisfaction and life satisfaction in terms of women basketball players in Turkey. Methods. The research method of this study is descriptive. The statistical population consisted of 135 women basketball players who were reached via using convenience sampling method. Survey was conducted on athletes between 6 th October, 2019 and 30th November, 2019. Emotional Capital Inventory developed by Newman et al. (2015), Job Satisfaction Scale developed by Brayfield and Rothe (1951), shortened by Yoon and Thye (2002), and Life Satisfaction Scale developed by Diener et al. (1985) was used for data collection. SPSS-22 computer program was used in data analysis. The internal consistencies of the questionnaires were obtained by Cronbach's which were 0.81, 0.81 and 0.83, respectively. After exploratory factor analysis conducted on emotional capital inventory, seven factors were found as social awareness, self-management, self-awareness, self-reliance, relationship management, adaptability, and apathy. Results. The analysis of data revealed that self-reliance factor of emotional capital has significant and positive effect on job satisfaction, and self-management and personal awareness factors of emotional capital have significant and positive effects on life satisfaction. Conclusion. Finally, it can be concluded that emotional capital has partial effect on both job satisfaction and life satisfaction of women basketball players in Turkey's Super League.

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the lived experience of how sensory-related behaviors of children with autism affected family routines. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with four primary caregivers regarding the meaning and impact of their child’s sensory-related behaviors on family routines that occurred inside and outside the home. Findings indicated that sensory behaviors are one factor that limited family participation in work, family and leisure activities; and that parents employed specific strategies to manage individual and family routines in light of the child’s sensory-related behaviors. This information has important implications for professionals who work with families of children with autism to decrease caregiver stress and to increase life satisfaction for the child and family.

This article explores explore the relationships among socio-demographics, perceived health, and happiness in a patient population of 221 adults recruited from 39 primary care practices in Alabama. We also explored whether the relationship between socio-demographics and happiness is mediated by perceived health. The dependent variable, happiness, was dichotomized as happy versus unhappy. Independent variables or correlates of happiness included race (Black or White), age (< 65 vs. 65 and older), gender (male vs. female), perceived income (sufficient vs. insufficient to meet basic needs), health literacy (adequate vs. inadequate), and self-rated health (excellent/very good/good vs. poor/fair). There has been a growing interest in the concept of happiness in economics, psychology, and sociology. The effect of employment status on life
satisfaction has been of particular interest in the empirical research of economics. A substantial body of literature shows that unemployment is associated with lower levels of happiness conceptualized as life satisfaction. This paper investigates life satisfaction levels in three dimensions of life—social and demographic characteristics, social inequality, and employment—using the third wave of the European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS) conducted in 2011. Multiple regression results are consistent with that of previous literature. Even when the financial situation and other individual characteristics are held constant, unemployment reduces people’s life satisfaction. The final model shows that the impact of social exclusion, deprivation, and financial differences on life satisfaction proves to be higher than the impacts of education level, marital status, age, and employment status. Hence, welfare state policies affecting social inequalities and labor market have significant effects on life satisfaction.

This study examines the relationship between types of social capital and the use of Facebook to share personal news. This relationship is significant because, as the research shows, there is a link between personal news sharing and personal self-esteem and life satisfaction. The quantitative study comprised a survey of 415 students at Yarmouk University and Amman University, Jordan, and was based on a theoretical model that employed structural equation modeling for measuring relations and correlations between variables and the effects of news sharing in promoting student social capital. The results showed a positive relationship between the intensity of news sharing using Facebook and social capital, bridging social capital, and self-esteem. The strongest relationship was with self-esteem; however, the results showed no significant relationship between social capital and the degree of personal life satisfaction.

Loneliness and cognitive distortions have serious negative effects on life satisfaction and are seen as related to each other. However, what mediates in these relationships has not been adequately analyzed. This study aims to analyze the effect between cognitive distortions and life satisfaction by asserting the mediating role of loneliness. For this purpose, we conducted a cross-sectional study with 978 people over the age of 20 from various parts of Turkey using a general screening model. Firstly, we analyzed the direct effect of interpersonal rejection, interpersonal misperception, and unrealistic relationship expectation, which are sub-dimensions of cognitive distortions, loneliness, and life satisfaction. Subjective well-being (SWB) is the form of well-being which focuses on people’s feelings, life satisfaction, happiness and their emotions. Subjective well-being also influences the academic achievement of children. The present study is designed to investigate the subjective well-being level in Pakistani children. Furthermore, to investigate the gender difference with relation to SWB and to determine the impact of subjective well-being on academic achievement of children. A validated and reliable Personal Well-being Index- School Children Scale (PWI-SC) was used. By simple random sampling 200 Students (9-12 years) were taken from the private and public schools. The collected data was analysed by bivariate correlation and independent t-test. Results show that most of the children (61.5%) have higher level of subjective well-being. Gender difference (p =0.001) was found as boys have higher level of SWB than girls. Results demonstrate a significant positive relationship (p = 0.035, r = 0.149) between subjective well-being and academic achievement. It is concluded that the level of SWB in Pakistani children is high and gender difference exist with relation to SWB. Subjective Well-being and academic achievement are positively associated with each other. The society in general and parents in particular should avoid the gender difference for their affection. Workshops and trainings must be organized for parents and teachers to realize them that their behaviors and attitude has great effect on student SWB and academic achievement.

From Hogwarts to the Boxing ring: Courage, creativity and psychological wellbeing.
In this public lecture Martin will be reflecting on psychological wellbeing and the ways in which it is
linked to courage and creativity. He will of course draw on insights from counselling psychology but
this will be supplemented by insights from a range of other areas, fields as diverse as the Harry Potter
stories, the sport of boxing and MMA and lesbian and gay psychology. Martin will explore and
question the place of such experiences as courage, risk, creativity and standardisation in relation to
psychological wellbeing in our age of ever increasing risk averseness.

Bu açıdan iş kalitesi, çalışanların kazancı ve iş güvencesinin yanı sıra, yaşam kalitesini etkileyen diğer unsurların bir bileşimini yansıtmaktadır. Özellikle 2008 Küresel Ekonomik Krizi sonrasında iş kalitesine ilişkin endişelerin artması, bazı akademik çevrelerin ve uluslararası örgütlerin iş kalitesine yönelik ilgisini artırmış ve iş kalitesi ölçümüne yönelik çeşitli çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmalardan biri de OECD'nin üç boyut ve dokuz göstergeden oluşan İş Kalitesi Çerçevesi'dir. Bu anlamda, OECD İş Kalitesi Çerçevesi kazanç kalitesi, işgücü piyasası güvencesi ve çalışma ortamının kalitesi olmak üzere üç temel boyutta yapılandırılmıştır. Bu açıdan, bu çalışma temel olarak, OECD ülkelerinin İş Kalitesi Çerçevesi verilerine basit ve çoklu doğrusal regresyon modelleri uygulayarak yaşam memnuniyeti skorları ve iş kalitesi göstergeleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Basit doğrusal regresyon sonuçları, daha yüksek yaşam memnuniyeti skoruna sahip OECD ülkelerinde, iş kalitesinin daha yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir. Ayrıca çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi istihdam oranı, kazanç kalitesi, iş otonomisi ve öğrenme fırsatları ile kariyer ilerleme fırsatındaki artışın ülkelerin yaşam memnuniyeti skorlarını farklı derecelerde yükseltebileceği sonucuna ulaşmıştır.

Background Although higher psychological well-being has been linked with a range of positive biological processes and health outcomes, the prospective association between psychological well-being and physical activity among older adults has been understudied. Purpose We tested whether higher baseline psychological well-being predicted higher levels of physical activity over time. Methods Prospective data were from the English Longitudinal Study of Aging, a nationally representative sample of English adults over the age of 50. Our sample included 9986 adults who were assessed up to six times across an average of 11 years. Results After adjusting for sociodemographic factors, each standard deviation increase in baseline psychological well-being was associated with higher median physical activity in linear regression models that examined physical activity across all six waves (β = 0.20; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.18–0.21) and in linear mixed effect models that examined repeated measures of physical activity over the entire follow-up period (β = 0.20; 95% CI 0.19–0.21). Further, higher baseline psychological well-being was associated with a slower rate of decline in physical activity among people who were active at baseline (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.79, 95% CI 0.76–0.82) and increasing physical activity among people who were inactive at baseline (HR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.22–1.35). Findings were maintained after adjusting for baseline health status and depression. Conclusions Psychological well-being was independently associated with attaining and maintaining higher physical activity levels over 11 years, suggesting that it may be a valuable target for interventions aimed at helping older adults acquire more physical activity.

Academic research on children’s and adolescents’ happiness has been slow to develop. This research provides an empirical investigation to answer the question, “What makes children and adolescents happy?” We explore this question in two studies with a total of 300 participants ages 8–18. Study 1 asks participants to answer the open-ended question, “What makes me happy?” There were five emergent themes—“people and pets,” “achievements,” “material things,” “hobbies,” and “sports”. Study 2 also asks participants to answer the question, “What makes me happy?”, but uses two different measures (a semi-structured thought listing task and a collage task). Using three different happiness measures, we found consistent age differences in what children perceive to make them happy.

Each day the number of individuals wishing for sports, challenges, nature, and wetland is going up, which increases the individual's recreative activities. It is seen that-especially-sailing organizations are paid more attention and also there have been a number of competitions scheduled recently. In this study, it is researched what attitudes individuals have towards sailing and how sailing affects lives of those who participated in the sailing organizations in Çanakkale, Bozcaada. In accordance with these purposes, interviews were conducted with the 15 sailors who participated in the 2019 Naval Forces Cup Sailing Competition on Bozcaada. The data obtained from the interviews were transcribed and evaluated with content analysis method. As a result of the research, it is observed that sailing takes very important role in individuals' life that helps them to socialize, let them challenge the nature and to overcome the issues in their life. This exploratory study is important in providing information on the characteristics of sailors traveling by sailing and the current situation of sailing activities in Turkey in terms of a recreational sense. Moreover, the study contributes to the literature in terms of figuring out how individuals participating in sailing activities position in their life satisfaction and determining their perception about their sailing tourism.

The question of those who are more dissatisfied with their own lives - men or women - turned out to be incorrect. Satisfaction with their own lives for men and women depends, firstly, on the measure of self-acceptance, on height, stability, adequacy of self-esteem; second, from the ability to interact with the environment, to maintain a positive relationship that doesn’t exclude self-sufficiency, autonomy, internal freedom; and, thirdly, from the nature of self-realization, satisfaction with their own profession, the way to do a career, earn money.
Components of dissatisfaction with their own lives in men and women create different configurations and, accordingly, their manifestations, experiences, and comprehension are completely different.

Many people desire work that is meaningful. However, research in this area has attracted diverse ideas about meaningful work (MW), accompanied by an equally disparate collection of ways of assessing MW. To further advance study in this area, the authors propose a multidimensional model of work as a subjectively meaningful experience consisting of experiencing positive meaning in work, sensing that work is a key avenue for making meaning, and perceiving one’s work to benefit some greater good. The development of a scale to measure these dimensions is described, an initial appraisal of the reliability and construct validity of the instrument’s scores is reported using a sample of university employees ( N = 370) representing diverse occupations. A B S T R A C T This study is a case study of paths of success across different immigrant groups in the same national context. It investigated dimensions of immigrants' success and explored paths of success of immigrants from different countries of origin. Two main dimensions of immigrants' success were outlined: economic success and psychological well-being, when the latter included 'sense of belonging' and 'life satisfaction'. An instrument measuring both dimensions of success was developed. The study was based on data from the 2011 Immigrant Survey completed by a representative sample of the immigrant population in Israel, including 2927 immigrants from the Former Soviet Union, Asia & Africa, Europe & America, and Ethiopia. Structural Equation Modeling were used to generate the model of immigrants' success. The main paths of success were outlined. The path of the low-skilled visible minority contrasted with the path of other, more highly skilled groups of immigrants who resembled the local majority population to a greater degree. Understanding factors shaping the success of immigrants from different countries of origin might be used by policymakers to foster immigrants' economic and psychological well-being.
