Although provision of holidays for families in need has been mainstreamed within the social care policies of many countries in the rest of Europe, ‘social tourism’ has yet to be adopted in the United Kingdom. This article reports on a scoping study of research and policy in this area. While there is limited robust research on the impact of holidays, emerging evidence supports a range of claims for benefits to children and families. The article concludes that both political emphasis on social inclusion and pan-European initiatives on ‘Tourism For All’ currently provide an opportunity for the provision of holidays for families in need to be placed firmly on the social care agenda.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between tourists’ positive psychological well-being and
satisfaction with quality of life (QOL). More specifically, this study examined tourists’ well-being using the PERMA
model of well-being developed by Seligman and its capacity to predict QOL. This paper examines the differences
between wellness and non-wellness tourists as it relates to well-being and QOL. Additionally, this study examined
the importance/performance ratings of well-being experiences while travelling. To capture these relationships,
862 respondents answered questions about their well-being while travelling and satisfaction with quality of life.
Confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling and importance performance analysis were employed
to answer the research questions. Results suggest that the PERMA model does not contribute to QOL. Wellness
travelers experience greater connection between overall health and QOL. Generally, the travel and tourism industry
is performing up to the expectations of both wellness and non-wellness tourists. Both theoretical and managerial
implications are discussed. Future research evaluating the existence of positive psychological well-being within the
tourism context is warranted.

ABSTRAK Sektor pariwisata merupakan salah satu sektor andalan pemerintah Indonesia untuk menghasilkan devisa negara. Oleh karena itu pemanfaatan, pengembangan, pengelolaan dan pembiayaan kawasan wisata harus mendapat perhatian yang serius dari pemerintah dengan melibatkan peran lembaga-lembaga pemerintah, stakes holder yang terkait serta partisipasi seluruh lapisan masyarakat dalam berbagai kebijakan dan program yang akan diambil. Karya tulis ini ditujukan untuk menganalisa dan mendeskripsikan peran imigrasi dalam upaya meningkatkan kepariwisataan nasional beserta kondisi faktual pariwisata nasional (pada masa sekarang dan sebelumnya). Dalam hal ini pandemi COVID-19 juga berpengaruh dan berdampak terhadap sektor pariwisata nasional. Metode digunakan yang dalam penulisan ini adalah metode deskriptif, fakta yang telah dideskripsikan kemudian disajikan dan dianalisis. Hasil yang diperoleh yakni Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi berperan dan berdampak positif terhadap peningkatan kepariwisataan nasional melalui kebijakan yang dikeluarkan dan diterapkan oleh Imigrasi seperti Bebas Visa Kunjungan (disahkan melalui dasar hukum (Perpres Nomor 21 Tahun 2016), Immigration On Board, Immigration On Shipping, serta penerapan sistem autogate yang memberikan kemudahan dan kenyamanan kepada wisatawan mancanegara. Hal ini harus diiringi dengan peningkatan pengawasan terhadap wisatawan mancanegara dalam rangka penegakan hukum.

This paper explores the nature of Americans' vacations from the perspective of social and symbolic anthropology. Taking the viewpoint of the vacationers themselves, it suggests that two polar types of vacations are recognized by Americans, termed “Peasant for a Day” and “Queen (King) for a Day.” Each of these types inverts an aspect of American society, but depending on the class of the vacationer involved, the inversion takes on one of two forms: either dissolution or accentuation of the social hierarchy. Examples and variations of these two basic types of vacation are presented; both domestic and overseas holidays are discussed.

Les vacances des Américains. Cet essai emploie l'anthropologie sociale et symbolique en analysant le fond des vacances que prennent les Américains. En examinant le point de vue des voyageurs eux-mêmes, il suggère qu'il y a deux types polaires de vacances que reconnaissent les Américains nommés “Paysan pour une journée” et “Reine (roi) pour une journée.” Tous les deux types renversent un aspect de la société américaine, mais selon la classe des voyageurs, l'inversion prend l'une des deux formes: ou elle dissound ou elle accentue l'hiérarchie sociale. The summer camps (vacation colonies) had the most theoretical support in ancient knowledge derived from the medicine which prioritized the outdoor life, far from the urban centers, for recovery and strengthening the body. By offering healthy food and bodily practices performed within the nature for the children of the working classes during their vacation, the summer camps had initially as their main objective the prevention of the spread of diseases, especially tuberculosis, which contagiated many residents of large cities. The summer camps were published in the international scientific community since 1882 through conferences and were often recommended as an innovative measure of children care that many countries could adopt to protect their children's health. Taking as the main sources for the research the annals of International Congress of Hygiene and Demography, the Pan American Child Congress and also magazines specialized in health, education and physical education, many of them published by official departments, the propose of this research is to investigate the policies to implement the summer camps for children in the four largest urban centers of South America at the first decades of the twentieth century: Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The time bias is defined from 1882, when the summer camps began to be debated in the international arena, until the mid-1950s, when the first allopathic medice to treat the tuberculosis began to be used more effectively to control the disease, changing the public health policy in many countries, which would not take the resources to maintain the outdoor life to preserve the health of their populations, and unseating the summer camps of their major medical goal. The research sought to expand the studies conducted by the History of Education and the History of Physical Education, since the summer camps are object of study unexplored by the South American science, even though they narrate the innovative hitorical perspective when they are established as an institution concurrently next and distinct from school, creating and implementing new practices and educational models and pedagical contents, when more traditional pedagogies previously excluded found the opportunity to be incorporated as an educational opportunity. Adopting the cultural history as the theoretical framework for the analysis of the sources this research focus on the changing of the mentalities and sensibilities that shifted the outdoor life from the medical precepts to conceive it as an education body capable of being systematized and institutionalized by the summer camps. During the period covered by the survey, it concludes that the summer camps were not limited only as a public health measure, once they staged a series of educational procedures that would definitely transform the school holidays in an adventure of the body that allowed many children's wishes come true and that marked new educational opportunities geared especially to children who had not hitherto their rights to health , education and play fully respected.

The coastline in Ceará has been transformed since the decade of 1970. The understanding
of this spatio process structuring requires a reading which integrates not only the twenty
seashore cities in Ceará but also the metropolitan region of Fortaleza, an important element
in the regional context. This investigation privileges spatial information and tries to
demonstrate whether there is or not a correlation between variables such as investment,
road system infrastructure, secondary residences, and populational dynamics. The
description and analysis of these variables have permitted the classification and
apprehension of some traces of the spatiotemporal dynamics, thus evidencing stabilities and
transformations in the referred spaces. Among them we highlight the consolidation of the
park of secondary residences in the midst of private domiciles and the formation of summer
vacation spaces associated with new touristyplaces, mainly in small and medium-sized
towns in Ceará.

Due to the increase in the number of elderly and people seeking medical care, the hotel market with a blend of care and leisure experiences is expected to grow in the future (Han, 2013; Karuppan & Karuppan, 2010; Laesser, 2011). The role of care hotels as an intersection between the care and the tourism sectors makes a vacation in a care hotel an interesting social practice to study. In this contribution a social practices approach (Spaargaren, 1997) is applied to investigate how demand and supply interact during a care hotel vacation. Semi-structured interviews are used to identify successful and less successful interactions or practices between senior guests and personnel in five Dutch care hotels. These interactions are related to materials (care and leisure facilities), competences (skills and empathy of the personnel) and meanings (motivations and aspirations of guests) in the care hotel practice (see Shove et al., 2012).
