About this audiobook
Now the queen is dead and the ageless King Eidolon has sent my sister a gift—an eerily familiar gift—and a proposal to wed. I don’t trust him, so I do what I was born to do and secretly take her place on the eve of the coronation. Which is why, when a figure made of shadow kidnaps the new queen, he gets me by mistake.
As I try to escape, all the lies start to unravel. And not just my lies. The Shadowraith who took me has secrets of his own. He struggles to contain the shadows he wields—other faces, identities that threaten my very life.
Winter is at the walls. Darkness is looming. And the only way to save my sister and our dominion is to kill Eidolon … and the Shadowraith who has stolen my heart.

YA Fantasy Romance

Twin princesses, the firstborn the next queen, the second born the body double, the one who takes the place of her sister in the most dangerous situations, there to sacrifice her life. When not pretending to be her sister she hides as a poor girl, but she wants to be herself, not a stand-in princess whose only purpose is to die.
But when the queen dies, King Eidolon the sworn enemy of the princess' kingdom who has killed the queens in the past sends a gift and a proposal of marriage.
By mistake, in order to stop the wedding, the wrong princess was kidnapped.
Wrote in first person from the eyes of the stand-in princess, this is the first book of a new series full of magic.
It's a really good story, the characters are well-developed even though they are modeled off the usual YA fantasy characters. The girl, the evil man who kidnaps her (who's not completely evil) she falls for, the best friend who has loved her, and the evil king.
The settings were unique, each kingdom surrounded by some barrier to keep out the evil monsters, and the only way to travel to each kingdom is through a glass portal, but there is only one in each kingdom and only those with a certain magic can open them.
Sadly, this interesting part of the story and of this world wasn't explained in detail as much as it should've been, it's only brushed over as if it's not that important. But maybe the author plans to include these details in the next book.
There are a few other characters, including the 'evil' king, who are not detailed at all when they are there, the reader learns more about them by what the MC tells, but leaves out a lot of her impressions when she (the reader) meets them in person.
The romance part was expected after they met for the very first time, and it was a gentle development until the borderline porn that felt as if it was drawn out over ten pages, it wasn't graphic but readers under sixteen should not read this. It was the lowest part of the story, not needed at all, and bye-bye star...
Sorry, I'm old school, borderline porn, let alone any type of porn, should not be in YA books. Yes, kids will find it, we did when I was in school, but we had to look for it in the general fiction sections, not in YA.
The second low point of this story was the cliffhanger. I hate them. Bye-bye star... Thankfully the book wasn't that good so there is the possibility that even though the second book is coming out in a few months, I might forget about it.
