1 Scope
This specification, together with the Purchase Order, covers the minimum requirements
for steel, bolted bonnet, flanged and buttwelding end, swing check valves in 2 inches
nominal pipe size (NPS) and larger for ASME Classes 150 through 2500.
Valves covered by this specification shall be suitable for wet, sour liquid or gaseous
hydrocarbon services with design temperature between -18 and 400°C.
Additional requirements for special services are covered in the following appendices:
Appendix A Low temperature service from -45 to -18°C
Appendix B Cryogenic service from 46°C and below
Appendix C Steam service
Appendix D Pipeline service from -18 to 120°C
2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs) or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

5.1.2 Bolted bonnets shall be provided. Pressure seal bonnets are acceptable
when Appendix C (steam service) or other clean non-corrosive service is
specified. Alternative proposals shall be subject to the review and
approval of the Chairman of the Valve Standards Committee.
5.1.3 Valves shall be regular pattern unless specified otherwise in the Purchase
Order.
5.1.4 The area of the flow passage shall be at least equal to the seat port area.
5.1.5 Valves shall have a travel stop to limit disc swing in the open position.
5.1.8 An arrow shall be provided on at least one side of the valve body, as part
of the body, indicating the direction of flow.
5.2.1 The body seat ring shall be inclined or the hinge shall have an offset.
5.2.2 The disc shall be one piece. The disc nut shall be drilled and pinned.
6 Materials
6.1 When referenced in the Purchase Order, "trim" shall consist of the following:
a) seat ring or body seat surface
b) disc seating surface
c) hinge pin
d) other small parts in contact with the line fluid
6.2 All parts, welds and heat-affected zones of welds exposed to line fluids shall
meet the hardness and heat treatment requirements as specified in SAES-A-301.
This includes materials under overlays, platings or coatings.
6.3 Body, cover and hinge material shall be in accordance with API SPEC 6D,
Table 3.1.
6.4 Disc and seat material shall be one of the following materials:

6.5 Hinge pin material shall be AISI Type 410 stainless steel or 17-4 PH. Hinge pin
bushing material shall be appropriately selected to avoid galling with the hinge
pin. The corrosion resistance of the hinge pin plugs and flanged retainers shall
be at least equal to the material of the body.
6.6 Disc retaining components such as studs (when separate from the disc), nuts,
and washers shall be made of materials specified in paragraph 6.4a.
6.7 Bolting for body-to-cover joint and flanged hinge pin retainers shall be in
accordance with SAES-A-301.
6.8 Gaskets for body-to-cover joint and hinge pin retainers shall be one of the
following materials:
a) Soft steel or iron
b) Spiral wound stainless steel graphite filled.
8 Marking
Refer to 04-SAMSS-035.
9 Shipping
Refer to 04-SAMSS-035.
