 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance

I. Learning objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils will be able to;
a. Identify the variables, coefficient, and constant in an algebraic expression,
b. tell the importance of algebraic expression in real life situation,
c. solve and evaluate algebraic expression.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Algebraic Expression
Reference:
Materials: Visual Aids, flash cards

III. Procedure: Developmental

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation
a. Drill
Good morning class! Good morning ma’am!
This morning, we will going to
have an activity. I will group ( the students do as told)
you into 3.
I will show you some scenario
in a manila paper and all you
need to do is to answer what
four basic operations is used in (the students do as told)
the scenario. Write only the
sign of the operations in the
piece of manila that was
provided with you. The group
who will raise their paper and
got it correct will get 1 point ( Addition)
and so on.

1. Ruth had typed 12 pages of

her research paper during ( Subtraction)
the first day. On the
second day she typed 14
pages. How many pages
did she type in all? (Multiplication)
2. Johann was given 200.00
by his mom. His younger
brother Drake borrowed ( Division)
20.00 from him. How much
money did he have left?
3. Bless is 9 years old. Her
older brother Ed is twice as
old as she is. How old is
old?
4. Mrs. Cruz brought home a Yes ma’am
2000ml bottle of orange We talked about percentage, rate,
juice. She divided this and base
equally among her five
children. How much did
each child receive?
Percentage is the quantity which is a
part of the base
b. Review
Class do you still remember
our last topic? Rate is the comparison of the
percentage to the base expressed in
percent.
Very Good!
Now, who among you here can
define percentage base on our Base is the quantity that’s
last topic? represents the whole.

Very Good!
How about the Rate?

And lastly who can define the

Base?

( the students will answer the

Excellent! problems on the board)

Now, let’s see if you really

didn’t forgot our last by
answering this problems on None ma’am
the board.

1. 50% of n=285
2. n% of 40= 30
3. 90% of 60=n

Very Good!
Now do you have any
questions regarding with
the topic?

c. Motivation Students do as told

Let’s proceed
Group 1, Group 2
Class, I have here with me the
mathematical phrase that has No ma’am
corresponding answers. The
answers are there in the cards
that will be provided with you
later. All you need to do is to
raise the card that you think is
the corresponding answer to Algebraic Expression
the mathematical phrase that
I will read later.

Now class, base on our activity

awhile ago, do you have any Algebraic Expression is a
idea on what we will going to mathematical phrase that uses
discuss this morning! variables, numerals, and operation
symbols.

B. Presentation
So, now fasten your seatbelt and Numbers, operations, and variables
lend me your ears for we are going
to travel the world of……
everybody please read

C. Discussion
Yes ma’am
Now, everybody please read the
definition of algebraic expression
Ok! Thank you
So, algebraic Expression contains…
Ex. x÷7
Coefficient- the numerical factor of a
So, this example of algebraic term that contains a variable
expression because there is
variable, operation, and number. Variable- a symbol (usually a letter) that
represents one or more numbers
Understood?
Constant- a term with no variable
Now class before we will dig
deeper with our discussion, we
will discuss first the terms or parts
of the expression that we will
going to encounter in algebraic
expression. First is…..everybody
please read…

variable Yes ma’am

Yes ma’am

constant (Students will raise their hand to

answer)
4x - 7

Coefficient

Another example Yes ma’am

3x-8
7y+5
Yes ma’am
Am I understood?

Do you want another example?

5p+4
Now who wants to Identify the variable,
coefficient, and constant
Excellent!
Now class since you already knows how
to identify those terms. This time I will
teach you how to solve and evaluate
algebraic expression.

Do you want to know how to solve for

variable?

That’s good to hear! Yes ma’am

Are you excited? Yes ma’am
Very Good!

Now going back to our activity awhile ago

Ex. 7y-6 Yes ma’am
How are we going to solve this problem
when y=2
7y-6
7(2)-6
14-6
8

2n+5 n=2 (The students will raise their hands to

2(2)+5 answer)
4+5
9
None ma’am
Understood class?
Do you find it easy class?

Very Good!
Now do you want another example?

4x-7 x=5 (Students will raise their hand to

4(5)-7 answer)
20-7
13

3w+4
Who wants to try it on the board?

Very Good! Yes ma’am

Now, do you have any questions
regarding with our discussion? Washing clothes from our neighbor
ma’am
That’s Good!
Sometimes 150

3 times a week ma’am

D. Generalization
Class who can redefine algebraic
expression?

Very Good!

Values Integration
Class have you tried to work just to
Yes ma’am because it help us find
help your parents for household needs?
answers to real situations
Like washing clothes from your neighbors,
bolo their garden, or any work that you
will get money in return.

What work is it?

I felt happy ma’am

How much money will you earn? Yes ma’am

How many times will you washed their
clothes?
Because we are family, and helping our
parents shows that we care for them
Lets say that you earned 150 each time and we think for our situation.
you washed clothes. If x is the number of
neighbors who wants to washed their
clothes to you, your total income is
150x+3. That’s the time you start
evaluating this expression.

So, class without us knowing we already

encountered algebraic expression in our
lives.

Now, is algebraic expression important in

our lives?

Very Good!
Now going back,
What did you feel after helping your
parents by lending them money?

Is it important to help our parents?

Why do you say so?

Very Good!
Helping them shows that we care and
love them.

E. Application
Now that you already know how
to evaluate algebraic expression,
we will be having another activity.
Same groupings. Each group will
choose their leaders. The leader
will be the one who can ask me Group 1 will do their task
about the activity and he/she is
also responsible for guiding
his/her group mates. Each group
will be given an activity manila
paper where you will evaluate the
expressions that were assigning to
the group.

Now the group activity will be

scored according to this standard

Rubric

Accuracy- 5pts Group 2 will do their task

Time Frame- 5pts
Cooperation-5pts
Total: 15pts

Group 1
Find the value of each expression and
write the answer in the circle.
When x=2
2x-3 5x+2

(Student will answer the problem)

2x-1

6x-3

(Students will answer the problem on

their assignment notebook)
Group 2
Find the value of each expression and
write the answer in the circle.
When x=3

2x-1

2x-3 5x+2

6x-3

F. Evaluation
Class get ½ sheet of paper and
completes the table by evaluating
the given expression.

Z 9z-3
1
2
3

G. Assignment
For your assignment evaluate 8x-5
1. X=2
2. X=3
3. X=4
