Industrial and business sectors have always been in the process of changing, and in order to

cope up with the certain transition due to some related factors. Thus, increase in productivity
is their only way to meet the demand and supply needed to earn profits, and to achieve the
increase in output per work-hour, fundamental tools should be utilized among these tools are
methods, work measurement and work design. These methods helped every industry in terms
of productivity; however, many considers in applying these tools in the production process and
not to other field of work. It is evident that productivity within work is crucial in order for the
business to grow and be competitive in the market, moreover, it is also more efficient to
maximize waste or eliminate waste just like U.S. based companies did, they are focused on
lowering cost and quality, then critically investigate waste. On the other hand, in the field of
production, manufacturing the products shall use a method particularly the methods
engineering where it encompasses in designing, creating, selecting the best manufacturing
method, processing , tools, equipment and skills needed. To complete the work, skilled
laborers are also needed to achieve the productivity and high quality of work, then right
procedure must be implemented and in terms of manufacturing time it is reduced through
methods of engineering and time study.

Engineers particularly the Industrial Engineers are always into productivity, and the terms
operation analysis, work design, work simplification, then methods of engineering and
corporate reengineering are always used and heard in the field of work. Meanwhile, a product
output is analyzed through methods engineering to evaluate the product for some possible
defects or the quality itself, and for an engineer to come up solutions that would improve the
overall process and output. Changes also are not objected here, as long as, it is capable of
earning profits and safety then the management will likely risk into that decision. Research
and development are also encouraged since it brings high-quality of goods and services.
Moreover, methods engineering is reliable methods used in the industry, since it follows a
procedure that will lead to good results.

Furthermore, it is believed that methods engineering should be drawn to work design, so that
it doesn’t only aim for productivity but also for safety of the workers because workers health
and safety should also be prioritized, also indicated based on the constitution and to attract
more workers needed by the company. Moreover, standards are achieved based on the
results of techniques used and payrolls are implemented through this, thus there are functions
and other things that are related to methods and standards department that plays a big role in
the business sectors.

On the other hand, there are factors that negatively affect productivity and most of it are the
personal background of an employee, it is also noticed that workers are overworked, wherein
they are treated as if they are a machine. Due to everyday routines workers are used to what
they do, thus it was hard for them to worked on new implemented or any changes at work
which is wrong because they obstruct the company to further improvements, but also the
management itself dislikes change because they afraid to risk and drives them to stick in the
old system. In addition methods and time study causes the workers dislike them since it is
proven to be relatively accurate to achieve productivity, but not a good idea for them since it
may affect their paychecks. Despite of time study and work measurement being useful, it is
also believed that it speed up working motion thus it multiplies the need of a worker to exert
an effort to do the desire time indicated, although there are parties contradicts to both methods
and time study, it still does gave the fact where the company benefits as well as the
consumers, since pricing might be lower in the market and the quality of the products that will
achieve customer satisfaction. But, to this present-day workers are being heard and the
employers apply Humane approach to balance the needs of the worker and the job assigned
to them, credit shall be spoke- up to boost one’s confident and appreciate their hard work.

Productivity is the main purpose of why Industrial Engineers apply methods, time study and
work measurement, because they believed that there is always a better way, and productivity
answers all of that. It greatly affects economically such as the pricing implementation, solve
inflation and competition in the market, and supply and demand are met, thus it positively
affects the consumer and the business where business offers high quality products, services
and create budget- friendly prices, while health and safety are also prioritized as part of the
methods engineering.
