A Semi – Detailed Lesson Plan in Grade 10

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion, the students can be able to:

a. identify the difference between permutation and combination; and


b. solve counting problems using combination.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Combinations
Reference: Jisela N. Ulpina, Lerida – M E. Razon., Math Builders 10 worktext, pages
270 – 275
Materials: Visual aids, Laptop, Projector, Cards and Marble
Values: Be analytic and systematic in decision making.

a.) How many different arrangements of the word LOVE can you
make beginning with L?
b.) How many three letter words can be formed from the word ROSE if each

named with the letters A,B,C,D, and E?

B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation
In a birthday party, there are 5 guests. How many handshakes are there if each
guest shakes hands with the others only once.
2. Activity
“Permutation or Combination?”

a. In a group of 10 people , $20 , $10, and $5 prize will be given. How many
ways can the prizes be distributed?
b. In a group of 10 people, three $5 prizes will be given. How many ways can
the prizes be distributed?
c. A local school board with 8 people needs to form a committee with three
people. How many ways can this committee formed?

IV. Evaluation

Solve the following problems in ½ crosswise. 5 points each

a. There are 8 boys in a basketball team. In how many ways can the coach
make a selection of five?

b. There are six holes have been dug out but only 4 trees are available. How
many different ways can you choose which will remain empty if you plant all
4 trees.

c. A contractor has job openings for three carpenters. If six carpenters apply,
how many different selections of three men can the contractor make?

V. Assignment:

A committee of 5 is to be chosen from a group of 3 boys and 4 girls. If the committee


is to consist of 2 boys and 3 girls, how many different committees can be formed?
