CĐ 3: SO SÁNH (Comparisons)
I. So sánh bằng:
S + V + as + adj/adv + as + N/đại từ/S + V

Lưu ý: Nếu V là “be” -> adj
Nếu V là V thường -> adv

Eg: My hands are as cold (adj) as ice (n).
Eg: She sings as beautifully (adv) as Miley Cirus.
* Nếu S + V (có phủ định) + so/as + adj/adv + as + đối tượng so sánh.

Eg: The living room isn’t (phủ định) so large as the kitchen.
* So sánh gấp bao nhiêu lần:

twice/ số + times
second -> số thứ tự
S + V + số lần + SSB
Eg: This jacket is twice as expensive as my old one.
Eg: The concert tickets cost about three times as much as last year.

B. SO SÁNH HƠN:
S + V + ngắn-er / more + dài + than + đối tượng SS
Lưu ý: ngắn: chỉ có 1 âm tiết
dài: có 2 âm tiết trở lên

Eg: October is often colder than April.
Eg: The test was more difficult than expected.
*Một vài adj sau đây có 2 âm tiết nhưng vẫn được coi là adj ngắn (-> thêm -er)
-y (happy -> happier -> happiest)
-le (simple -> simpler -> simplest)
-er (clever -> cleverer -> cleverest)
-ow (narrow -> narrower -> narrowest)
-et (quiet -> quieter -> quietest)
*Bổ nghĩa cho SSH, ta dùng những trạng từ:
- nhấn mạnh: S + V + much/far/a lot + SSH
- nhấn nhẹ: S + V + a bit/a little/slightly + SSH

Eg: Đít đi is much older than Dớt tin.
Eg: I woke up a little later than usual.
*So sánh hơn về số liệu:

S + V + số liệu + SSH
Eg: I am eight centimeters taller than Thai Son.
Eg: My essay is ten pages longer than yours.

C. So sánh nhất
Cấu trúc: S + V + the + ngắn-est/most + dài (+ N)

Eg: I’m the happiest person in the room. (happy là adj 2 âm tiết có đuôi -y -> được coi là adj
ngắn)
Eg: This machine is the most reliable: đáng tin cậy in the shop.
*So sánh với số thứ tự:

S + V + the + số thứ tự + SSN
STT: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, …
Eg: The Amazon is the second longest river in the world.
Eg: Nagev was the fourth best rapper in the Nerdgang.
*So sánh nhất cũng có thể nhấn mạnh bằng “much/by far + the + SSN”
Eg: Tuấn Anh is by far/much the smartest in the class.
HÌNH THỨC BẤT QUY TẮC CỦA SSH VÀ SSN

1. good/well -> better -> best
2. bad/badly -> worse -> worst
3. many/much -> more -> most
4. little -> less -> least
5. far -> farther (xa hơn địa lý) / further (sâu xa hơn) -> farthest / furthest
6. old -> older (+ than -> SSH)/elder (người già/người lớn tuổi) -> oldest/eldest
D. So sánh kép:
I. So sánh đồng tiến (càng … càng …)
The + SSH + S1 + V1, the + SSH + S2 + V2
Eg: The colder it gets, the more miserable I feel.
Eg: The more I study, the better my results become.
II. So sánh luỹ tiến: (càng ngày càng …)
Tính từ ngắn: ngắn-er and ngắn-er
Eg: My mother looks younger and younger.
Tình từ dài: more and more + dài
less and less + dài

Eg: She is more and more confident in public speaking.
