There are 14 national parks in Spain that protect areas of natural beauty, diverse vegetation and fauna, and unique landforms. Two examples are Aigüestortes National Park in Cataluña, known for its alpine landscapes and lakes, and Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park in Aragón, home to the largest calcareous massif in Europe and species like the golden eagle. Picos de Europa National Park is shared between Asturias, León, and Cantabria and features dramatic vertical drops, while Cabañeros National Park in Ciudad Real has important Mediterranean forests and birds such as the imperial eagle.
