- 2. Introduction Respecting individual right is a value cherished by al civilised society. Respecting each other’s rights in a human society paves the way of harmonious relations among its members. Feelings of concern, love and care create a bond among human beings but these alone may not create a harmonious relationship unless these are blended with respect for each other’s rights.
- 3. Family in India: Change and Challenges Family is am integral part of Indian society, It play vital role in nurturing the rights of its member. westernisation,modernisation and industrialization influenced on family structure. The joint family has been one of the salient features of the Indian society. But the twentieth century brought enormous changes in the family system. Changes in the traditional family system have been so enormous that it is steadily on the wane from the urban scene.
- 4. Human Right The United Nations (1987) defined human rights as “ Rights which are inherent in our nature and without which we cannot live as human beings. Human rights and fundamental freedoms allow us to fully develop and use our human qualities, our intelligence, our talents and our conscience and to satisfy our spiritual and other needs (UNO, 1987).
- 5. Human Right Discourse Human Rights are Universal to all Nations and individuals of world. Right of an individual entitlement to certain basic necessesities which are fundamental to their existence, survival and growth. Legal mandatory for the maintenance of human dignity. Right to life, right to liberty, right to freedom and equality are very important.

Human Right In Family “ Human Right within the family set up is more meaningful when members are sensitive to the needs of each other and while protecting the entitlements of each members that harmonious relationship and solidarity of the family are not destroyed and in the case of any aberration, an individual’s rightful claims are recognised and respected by other members without in any way endangering family ties and bonds”

- 8. Women Abuse She will be victim in family violence and abuse. The first major recognition of women’s rights as human rights occurred in the 1970s when the CEDAW was drafted and adopted by a majority of member states of the UN. In 1992, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women proclaimed “violence against women recognised as a human rights issue”

In 1994 a Special Rapporteur was appointed by the Commission on Human Rights to seek and receive information on violence against women, its causes and consequences, to carry out field missions to various geographical regions in both an investigative and consultative capacity and to make recommendations for national, regional and international reform in relation to the elimination of violence against women
- 10. Elder Abuse One of the functional roles of the family has been care of the elderly. Because of changing role of family members and relationship elders are denied by the care and love. In most of the family elders are becoming victims of abuse.
- 11. Contd… The Universal Declaration on Human Rights states in Article 1 that ‘all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights’. This equality does not change with age: older men and women have the same rights as people younger than themselves.

Child abuse According WHO ''Child abuse or maltreatment constitutes all forms of physical and/or emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment or commercial or other exploitation, resulting in actual or potential harm to the child's health, survival, development or dignity in the context of a relationship of responsibility, trust or power.''
- 13. Convention on the Rights of the Child Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations has proclaimed that childhood is entitled to special care and assistance. As the fundamental group of society and the natural environment for the growth and well-being of all its members and particularly children. The child, for the full and harmonious development of his or her personality, should grow up in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding.

Gender Based Violence in Family UN Declaration/Article 1 defines “violence against women as "any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life". The Declaration recognizes the urgent need to extend to women the rights and principles concerning the equality, security, liberty, integrity and dignity of all human beings.
- 15. Conclusion This paper reviews changing pattern of family and its role,meantyime tried to analyse how human rights are being violated in family set-up. Social workers like us need to put an effort to preserve the human rights of family vulnerable group like woman, elder and children.
