Kater's 1981 article analyzes the sociological aspects of Hitler's rise to power in Germany. It aims to provide a comprehensive socio-historical evaluation of Hitler by examining the social background and defining the charismatic effects of his leadership. While previous biographers studied Hitler, they are criticized for lacking analysis of the overarching social context through class perspectives and psychological states. The article seeks to fill this gap by evaluating Hitler within the social context of Germany during his rise to power in the early 20th century.

Beyond the Advance Presentation for By the Book 9John Rodzvilla
In June 2020, L.L. McKinney, a Black author of young adult novels, began the #publishingpaidme hashtag to create a discussion on how the publishing industry treats Black authors: “what they’re paid. What the marketing is. How the books are treated. How one Black book not reaching its parameters casts a shadow on all Black books and all Black authors, and that’s not the same for our white counterparts.” (Grady 2020) McKinney’s call resulted in an online discussion across 65,000 tweets between authors of all races and the creation of a Google spreadsheet that collected information on over 2,000 titles.
While the conversation was originally meant to discuss the ethical value of book publishing, it became an economic assessment by authors of how publishers treated authors of color and women authors without a full analysis of the data collected. This paper would present the data collected from relevant tweets and the Google database to show not only the range of advances among participating authors split out by their race, gender, sexual orientation and the genre of their work, but also the publishers’ treatment of their titles in terms of deal announcements and pre-pub attention in industry publications. The paper is based on a multi-year project of cleaning and evaluating the collected data to assess what it reveals about the habits and strategies of American publishers in acquiring and promoting titles from a diverse group of authors across the literary, non-fiction, children’s, mystery, romance, and SFF genres.

2. A Friendly Enemy Essay
A Friendly Enemy
quot;Death is my wish for myself, my enemies, my children quot; (Euripedes
translated by Robinson Jeffers, Medea 11). Medea is hungry for death. She wants to
taste it on her lips and wishes others to do the same. The value which Medea gives
death is to use it as a weapon against her enemies. On the other hand, the women and
the nurse fear death. Death,to the women and to the nurse is something that should
not be wished for. quot;O shining sky, divine earth,
Harken not to the song that this woman sings quot; (13). One of the Greek women
says this, for Medea is screaming out that she would like to die. The women and the
nurse hear Medea wishing for death as if it were a treasure or something valuable.

To a Greek woman death is personified as a hunter or killer. She uses an animal, the
hawk,to compare to death. A hawk is a swift predatorthat attacks unnoticed, but to
Medea death is a trophy. For Medea death has a value of importance. A friendship
has been established. Death is Medea s friend. She uses it as a weapon to get what
she views as justice. quot; Then if you have a dog eyed enemy and needed absolute
vengeance . . . Unchild him, ha? And then unlife him quot;(23). Medea believed
with great depth to get vengeance upon Jason. She wanted to go through with her
vengeance and hurt Jason as Jason hurt her. Jason left Medea for another woman
thus leaving her miserable and craving for revenge. Thus, she went on taking the life
of his bride to be and the life of their children. She also wanted to wash herself from
the impurities of Jason s touch. quot;Ah, rotten, rotten, rotten: death is the only
water to wash this dirt quot; (12). This is a metaphor for she compares death to a
water, which is a symbol of pureness, to cleanse herself. The nurse and women have
almost pleaded to Medea not to even think about death, but because of her
resentment and hate towards Jason she is deaf to the women s advice. The
importance given to death by Medea is rejected by the women. Death would only
make things worse in the women s eyes. To Medea everything will be put in

changes in their lives. The recent changes in Satsuki s family s lives cause them a
great deal of stress. Everyone in the family deals with the stressful situation in
different ways. Satsuki s dad tries to spend more time at home instead of always

simply distracts herself from the entire situation her familyis enduring. This causes
her multitudes of issues throughout the film and it eventually causes her more stress.
The Totoros come into her life to give her an alternative, stress free environment.
They also distract and relive her from some of the stressful feelings she encounters.
One of the changes in Satsuki s life that causes a lot of stress is that her mother is in
the hospital getting a long term treatment for an unknown sickness. This unfortunate

Satsuki decides to ignore the stress that comes with her family s situation and keep
herself preoccupied. She tries multitudes of things to ignore her feelings and they
all seem to work temporarily. One of the methods she uses to preoccupy herself is
helping her dad out. She knows that her dad has a good deal of things on his mind
since her mother is not there to help him, so she willingly decides to cook lunch for
the family. She knows this is something simple that she can do that simultaneously

5. Baby Boomer Career Trends
Baby Boomers Affect on Career Trends Change is the only constant in life
(ancient, Heraclitus). The world is constantly changing and evolving. Businesses
and occupations are two of the most malleable topics in today s economy with
never ending highs and lows. A strong stressor in today s generation is what jobs
will be attainable as they grow up. Although many new occupations will be added
as this generation matures, the most will be in personal care aides and healthcare
due to the need to care for the aging Baby Boomers. Generation Y is gradually
entering the world of business with each passing year. With each adult comes a
necessary occupation that must be fit for the individual and the growing economy.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states: Among occupations, those in healthcare
are projected to add 2.3 million jobs, about 1 in 4 new jobs. Occupations in food
preparation and serving, personal care services, and sales are projected to add
another 2.4 million jobs. Together, these 4.7 million new jobs represent
approximately one‐half of all employment gains over the coming decade (U.S.

The need for adaptation in the job market is due to how many new occupations are
necessary to account for. Approximately 184.1 million people will have jobs
within the next decade (Marketing Charts). With millions of adults assuming jobs
each year, there will need to be a form of somewhat stable equilibrium: what the job
market needs and what the incoming young adults are willing to perform.
Naturally, people will flock to jobs that are in need of employees due to the
necessity of supporting oneself and if need be, others. The growing Generation Y
will need to fill in the most occupations in the field of personal care aides and

The criminal justice system revolves around a three tier system, law enforcement, the
judicial system, and the correctional system. The groundwork of this system revolves

punishment. What statistically could force a nation to use this system and what are

How does a nation combat the war on drugs? Many low level drug dealers use the
drugs they deal. Does focusing sentencing on drug rehabilitation for the criminal
eliminate the drug issue or decriminalize the drugs? In the end, the current laws
have led to a high incarceration rate. As of the last available data, 2 million people
were incarcerated for crimes in the U.S. and almost 7 million people were under
supervision. (Gruber, 5 Challenges Facing Criminal Justice Professionals Right Now,
2017) Many theories have concluded that it is corporate greed since economics have
a factor since billions are spent in correctional efforts. This issue has impacted on
communities and state legislation. Most States use a Three Strikes System when
dealing with drug issues or other offenses. This is an outdated system since
statistically most offenders who repeat the crime decline to repeat the offense as they
get older. Alternate sentencing should be evaluated (Gruber, 5 Challenges Facing
Criminal Justice Professionals Right Now, 2017) With the Criminal aspect and laws
identified, the next step is to view the code of ethics that Criminal justice personnel
are asked to uphold. Like religion, ethics revolving around Criminal Justice are
translated subjectively by individuals. These outcomes often lead to disputed
conduct, brutality, corruption and off duty behavior is a part of these challenges.
Identifying which organization has the most impact on the Criminal Justice

#### incomplete #### The proliferation stage took place in the era of economic
reforms (1978 to 1994) with the normalization of US China relations following the
visit of President Nixon (Li and Ding, 2013). The country began to open up and
moved its focus from the struggle for class to the development of productive power.
The country began to transit from a centrally planned to a market economy. This
means that various ministries, and provincial and municipalities were more
autonomous in decision making and therefore made a choice to develop their
regions through the auto industry development leading to the proliferation stage.
This stage occurred in two ways: a rise in output volume and the range of vehicles
produced. In the period when the economy was centrally planned, variety and
volume were planned by the central government as opposed to being controlled by
the market. Majority of the vehicles produced were trucks with passenger vehicle
production being limited. At that time, saloon cars could only be used by senior
officials in government with restriction on the rank of officials that were allowed to

12. Noah Vs Gilgamesh
We recently read two stories in class from two very different cultures. One from
Mesopotamian literature called The Epic of Gilgamesh, and one from Hebrew
literature called Noah and the Flood , which is from Genesis. Since they are both
creation stories, there are a few key similarities, but, being that they are from these
two different cultures, there will be multiple cultural belief differences. Between the
stories Noahand the Flood and the Epic Of GIlgamesh, there are a few important
similarities. The first main similarity is the fact that the gods from both stories
were mad at their people, and decided to exterminate mankind. In the Epic, Enlil s
naps were disturbed by how noisy the people were, whereas God in Noah and the
Flood stated that his people were becoming wicked and he said he regretted
making man on Earth. When the gods decided to wipe their people out, they both
appointed one person to hold the fate of the Earth s people. At this point, the gods
realized they had to get all of the animals onto a boat (or ark) to float above the
wretched waters that lie below. So, they gave their prophets very specific
measurements for their boat/ark. After the flood the two had to know when the
flooding and the storm were done, so they both got the idea to... Show more content

God told him that he was disappointed with how wicked the people had become and
that Noah was the only righteous man. So, he assembled his ark, which was
smaller than Utnapishtim s. He built it with his family and filled the boat with two
of each animal. In Genesis, the flood lasted forty days and forty nights. To go out
and find land post flood, Noah sent out two birds, one twice. One raven, which
came back, then the same dove twice, which came back the second time with an
olive branch. When all was said and done, God thanks Noah by sending His bow in
the sky (his rainbow) and calls it He and Noah s
13. My Cup Research Paper
After yesterday class was over, I realized that my cup was full. I did some changes
to empty that cup. First, I started by thinking why my cup was full and what I
needed to change about me. For example, yesterday, I started by paying attention
and listening to other people and their point of views. Now, I can tell that everyone
has a different point of views, which I always knew, but I did not pay attention.
This practice made me feel better about myself because I realized that it was not
only my world and myself. I saw my mistakes, and I was proud of that. Another
example is that I start leaving all my prejudices behind and that I needed to change
because if not my life would have been miserable. Being judgmental is not good at
all, but since

Fresco painting is one of the oldest art techniques that was used in the world. The
word fresco came from the Greek word: fresko meaning fresh . Moreover, this
fresco painting is a technique where in the artist uses fresh plaster as medium to

Buon Fresco or sometimes referred as true fresco is the most common method of
fresco painting technique in which the artist uses a wet plaster and paints on it while
it s freshly laid on the wall. Moreover , this painting technique is known for its
vibrant and vivid colors that is long lasting. Buon Fresco consists of the following

Josh got a call at work from an old high school friend that would be in town that
month, and Josh invited him to stay at his house for the weekend, without first
checking with Linda. Linda was upset when she heard this news because she was
away on business the week before and that Friday was to be her first night home.
Linda was less upset by that fact, and more upset that Josh had made plans without
checking with her first, she would never make plans with anyone without checking

conflict affected Linda and Josh perhaps more so than another couple because it hit

16. Contingency Planning Essay
News stations cover various disasters every single day. Sitting behind the screen,
people effortlessly deceive themselves into thinking that they will not face similar
situations. However the reality is that not only are everyone potential victims of such
scenarios, but they are also liable to the aftermath of the incident and its ripple
effects. Acknowledging the possibility of experiencing a disasteris the first step
towards effective recovery and responsiveness. The next step is to formulate a
response system to various disaster scenarios and test it out. During the formulation
of a plan, the disaster scenarios and objectives need to be agreed upon while
concurrently managerial and technical actions are thoroughly defined (Office of the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 2007, p. 68). Evidently, there are
costs associated with developing a contingency plan which in the short term may
appear unnecessary; nevertheless as a response to the increasing number of disasters,
contingency planning is essential to scheme to allow an organization to swiftly return
to its operations while avoiding superfluous costs and minimizing casualties as a
result of the increase in the overall effectiveness of response to an emergency or
critical situation.
The need for contingency planning primarily roots from the trend of exponential
increase in the number of disasters. The World Disaster Report (2004) concluded that:
Over the past decade, the number of natural and
17. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Should one follow society s rules for marriage, love, class, and gender expectations or
their heart regardless of the judgment of others? Jane Austen explores these themes in
her novel Pride and Prejudice, which takes place in the early nineteenth century. In
this famous novel, Elizabeth Bennet, who is the protagonist, is intelligent, witty, and
the most sensible of the five Bennet sisters, who all face challenges with social rules
and expectations. Conflicts and parental pressure arise through Mrs. Bennet whose
only goal in life is to marry her daughters off.
Austen s tone gives an overview of the plot via the famous first line, It is a truth
universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be
in want of a wife. (Austen 1). This establishes the gender expectation theme of the
novel. Austen includes a dramatic and humorous rising action, climax, resolution, and
falling action. In many ways Pride and Prejudice is funny, dramatic, and relatable
with the use of irony, as well as sarcasm. Austen introduces a series of dynamic
characters and static characters that play important parts in the plot who face internal
challenges.
Austen introduces and develops the theme of prejudice in both Elizabeth and Darcy.
The two first meet at the ball, where Mr. Bingley suggests that Darcy should dance
with Elizabeth. He responds, She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me;
and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who

1.Why did you choose this selection?
I chose this book because I remember hearing on the news about Malala but I did
not pay much attention to what was going on. She has received many awards but I
had no idea why. My knowledge of what Malala was limited and I only knew that
she wanted women to be able to receive education. Many celebrities have talked
about Malala and I have seen her do many interviews on television. I decided to
read her book to get knowledge of what she did to get targeted by the Taliban.
2.Summarize and review the book. Be sure to include its Lexile score and any
qualitative factors that might determine its complexity level.
I Am Malala is an autobiography of Malala s life in Pakistan when the Taliban took
over the Swat Valley. Malala s father founded an all girls school, which Malala
attends with other girls. Eventually, the Taliban take over Pakistan and girls have

In my opinion, I Am Malala, would be a great book to teach students about girl s
educations and rights in Pakistan. Students would also get insight of the negative
effects of Taliban. Many students would have heard about Taliban in the news but do
not know exactly how devastating they were to the people in Pakistan. Students will

Marshall Manson is the managing director of social media, and he gave a great
presentation to us for the business visit at Ogilvy. His background is extensive and
quite impressive. The social media department is responsible for creating campaigns
for each of their clients to expand their brand. One of the examples
Manson showed us in his presentation was the campaign he and his team created
for Coca Cola. The Islamic tradition Ramadan was the basis for this campaign.
Muslims that celebrate Ramadan usually work a half a day, get off early and go
home and have a celebration. So Manson and his team came up with a campaign
that would benefit from the Ramadan tradition. Their strategy was to show the heart
wrenching ad in the afternoon when most Muslims were in their homes watching
television or on the internet. When he told us the story behind this campaign and
how much work went into it, I was instantly hooked. This is exactly what I want to
do. Work on campaigns, ads, and work with a team that would challenge my
creativity. Manson was great at presenting the information. He gave us tips on how
to get into the PR field. Before Manson joined Ogilvy he worked for Edelman.
Marshall worked in U.S. political campaigns and for several communications firms

Cirilo Quispe Latorre, the mayor of Cachimayo district recalls how the climate has
change just since he was younger: The rains used to start in October, and we
would plant broad beans, wheat, and potatoes. Now the rains begin around mid
December, and we lose more than a month and a half of growing time. (Hufstader,
2009). Latorre goes on to say that the rains, which once ended in April now end in
March. This significantly diminishes the amount of time that farmers have to
produce crops which in turn has led to decreases in the output of crops in the last
twelve years (Hufstader, 2009). However, according to the USAID report on Peru,
annual rainfall percentages have not changed drastically over the last 40 years.
There has been an increase in the coastal regions and highlands (where most of
farming takes place), a decrease in the jungle areas, and little change anywhere else
(US AID, 2011).What has changed though, is the extent of the drought periods which
cannot be alleviated by the intense periods of rain (US AID, 2011). This issue could
be helped in the long term by utilizing more advanced irrigation methods that could
store water during the intense rains to help alleviate some of the burden of the long
droughts.
One of the most significant effects of climate change in the region has been the
devastating effects of the melting glaciers. These glaciers often provide an extra
source of water for farming regions, storing water in the rainy season and

The Wife of Bath, The Wife of Bath Prologue, and The General Prologue
These selections from The Canterbury Tales best exemplify the ideals and traits of
women (as portrayed by Chaucer). In, The Wife of Bath Prologue, the narrator brags
of her sexual exploits as well as her prowess of controlling men. The narrator is quite
forthright in her enjoyment of this manipulation; she comments on her technique of
lying and predomination of men. The General Prologue further serves to display the
daunting traits of women. The narrator makes several stabs at a woman s appearance;
and the overall effect is one of distaste and inadequacy. The tale itself, The Wife of

The author also includes an amusing vignette of her appearance; Her head dresses
were of finest weave and ground; I dare swear that they weighed a pound…Her
stockings were of the finest scarlet red…her face…and red of hue. This
humorous tone exemplifies the promiscuous nature of the woman. The attachment of
the color red especially highlights this; as it conveys a seductive and tantalizing
demeanor. The overall effect of these items allows the reader to form an image of
the woman; that she is a person of low morals and status. Her life is comprised of
appealing and manipulating the hearts of men.
The additional prologue, The Wife of Bath Prologue, is both lengthy and abound
with persuasion. This particular division of the Tale offers a glimpse into the mind
of the Wife. In it, she portrays herself as a proud woman, which has used her
innumerable supply of husbands as vessels of mere social and financial support. The
performance that she displays showcases her uncaring nature as well as her
experience. The selection utilizes exemplum to properly impart this experience. This

Paranoia
In 2014, Kalayasiri, R., Verachai, V., Gelernter, J., Mutirangura, A., Malison, R.
conducted a study of the relationship between methamphetamine use and paranoia.
Methamphetamine is one of the drugs that can cause addiction very easily. Among
methamphetamine dependent individuals, paranoia appears to occur increasingly
rapidly in a course of a session of methamphetamine use (Kalayasiri et al., 2014, p.
965). Kalayasiri et al., (2014) calls this type of paranoiamethamphetamine induced
paranoia (Kalayasiri et al., p. 965). Methamphetamine is a stimulant that changes the
functions of some neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, making it more available in
the body; this leads to symptoms of paranoia (Kalayasari, et al., 2014, p.965).

function. Insomnia consists in difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep or
nonrestorative sleep causing significant functional impairment (Reeve et al., 2015, p.

formation and prolongation of persecutory ideation (Reeve et al., 2015, p. 108). The
clinical study demonstrated that treatment of insomnia using cognitive behavioral
therapy and ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) can reduce paranoid episodes and
improve sleep (Reeve et al., 2015, p. 110). Reeve et al., (2015) states that melatonin
inhibits dopamine release, increases dopamine turnover, and alters dopamine receptor
activation (p.111). Patients diagnosed with sleep disorder need to follow a plan of
treatment to avoid complications, such as paranoia, depression, and other psychotic
disorders.
We have seen that paranoia can be caused by many factors: genetic, medication,
life experiences and sleep disorders. Some of the factors can be modified and
eliminated, such as sleep disorders. Stopping bullying in schools is also crucial.
Bullying is affecting people and might have severe consequences for the victim and

Jazz, which evolved from African American folk music, has developed and changed
over the last century to become an art form in America. It places particular
importance on inventive self interpretation. Rather than relying on a written piece,
the artist improvises. Jazz has taken many forms over the past seventy years; there is
almost always a single person who can be credited with the evolution of that sound.
From Thelonius Monk, and his bebop, to Dizzy Gillespie s big band, to Miles Davis

26. 2001 A Space Odyssey
AI has the potential to change the way we live for better or for worse. Terminator ,
IRobot , and 2001: A Space Odyssey are examples of Hollywood films where
artificial intelligence runs amok, resulting in a post apocalyptic future for
humanity. Experts rated A Space Odyssey 9 out of 10 on realism because HAL,
the supposedly antagonist, never strayed from its programming and killed its
crewmates to achieve its goals. HAL was not motivated by survival instinct or
emotions but simply instructions from its creator. The film s message is that
human moral is not a requirement for artificial intelligence. As the years go by the
perception of AI doesn t change much until the 1977 Sci fi film Star Wars was
released. Suddenly, the robots were the good guys . C 3PO is a perfect example of

27. Implementing Integrated Financial Management Systems
Essay
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
Developing countries in Africa began to focus on the improvement of public finance,
in particular on budget and expenditure management reforms in the early
1990s.Governments started to critically review the existing systems and processes
mainly as a response to concerns from the donor community. Due to inadequate and
outdated systems, governments decided to introduce of integrated financial
management systems (FMS) along the experience of developed countries in the 70s

One of the more dominant problems within the Bryan, College Station area, is the
extensive amount of flooding that takes place every year. Whenever it rains, the
town and a large number of major areas gets engulfed by uncontrollable amounts of
water. The streets and roadways get backed up with so much excess water that they
must close off certain parts of town to ensure the safety of the people who live there.
Flooding in Bryan, College Station is an enormous inconvenience to the people who
live there. This issue can be solved by simply collecting more tax money, fixing the
drainage system, and by coming up with procedures or regulations for future
constructions, so people can build their new establishments on higher grounds. It has
been stated by the Weather Channel that, In June of 2016, the Brazos River crested
just over 4 feet above its previous record floodstage at Richmond, Texas (Tom

flat terrain with occasional hills and slow absorbing soil, packed with large amounts
of establishments that can easily become prone to flooding. During the times of
intense rain, the water builds up and exceeds the limit for drainage in the area.
Bridges, roads, walkways, and parking lots, get engulfed with the water, making it
impossible to get through. Highway 6, near College Station, is one of the major
roads that people use to commute from place to place, and to get home, when it

Essentially, doublethink is the concept of holding two contradictory beliefs in one
s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them (Orwell 190). The Party uses
this form of manipulation to overpower the people and control their thoughts. One
of the most crucial examples of doublethink is the Party s four ministries which
include the Ministry of Love, Ministry of Truth, Ministry of Plenty, and the
Ministry of Peace. Based on the titles of these ministries, they would seem to have
a positive impact for the citizens of Oceania; however, all of the titles are
contradictory. In the Ministry of Truth, which is where Winston works, the people
are constantly rewriting history in old newspapers to ensure the Party is always
right. Everyday the people work to bring the past up to date and in this way every
prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have
been correct (Orwell 35). Within this ministry the employees also work to update
news about war between Oceania and other countries. Once Oceania begins war
with a new country the people are forced to believe they have always been at war
with that country. For instance, at one point in the past Oceania had allied with
Eastasia and been at war with Eurasia. However, as soon as that changed and Oceania
began to fight Eastasia within one week no reference to the war with Eurasia, or the
alliance with Eurasia, should remain in existence anywhere (Orwell 161). As
information dealing with any current event shifts the people must revise the past to
ensure the Party s reputation upholds. This same concept of deception goes for the
rest of the ministries. The Ministry of Love focuses on punishment through torture
and violence, the Ministry of Peace concentrates on war and the Ministry of Plenty
concerns itself with starvation. This

32. 1984 Themes In 1984
In 1984 George Orwell depicts a totalitarian state ruled by Big Brother. By the use of
psychological manipulation, technology and the concept that through the control of
memory the past is controlled, we see and feel the oppressive atmosphere through
the eyes of the protagonist Winston Smith. Certain aspects of the fiction including
the use of literary devices such foreshadowing, symbolism, allusion were
impressive. Despite the favorable parts about the novel, there were parts which I
disliked and were disturbing. After some research about the context, I realized that
the novel is a mirror of its time. There are several parallels in the society Orwell
portrays with Hitler s Germany and Stalin s Soviet Union, where the government kept

The timing of when these lines are revealed to the reader hold immense
significance. The voice from the tele screen that was behind the picture of St.
Clement s Church says, Here comes a chopper to chop off your head symbolizing
that the house is surrounded and they are trapped just like during the rhyme,
children bring their arms down to trap one of the players. Ministry of truth deals
with lies and changing the past to match big brother s predictions. When one hears
about the ministry of plenty, one would think that they were dealing with excess
supply. However, as noted by Winston, the figures for boots were always
monumental in the papers but most of the proles walked barefoot, things were
being rationed. These contradictions add to the dystopian setting that George Orwell
created. I think that the concept of Room 101 was the most effective addition to
this cautionary tale. The party s use of technology to analyze your every move, keep
you under constant surveillance so that you have no privacy, they know everything
about you even your worst fears and them having the power to use that information
against you is truly terrifying. Room 101 contains your worst fear and the party will
use that to break you and make you betray the one you love, for its own
33. The Ethics Of The Sarbanes Oxley Act Of 2002 ( Sox )
Fraud is an issue that causes major scandals, although it is a very ancient scheme.
Recent fraud events gave light to gaps that facilitated its events. Its extent was drastic
by affecting financial markets that eventually trickled into global markets. Major
organizations and countries worked cohesively and continue to address the gaps and,
in effect, implemented strict compliance regulations to diminish and refrain
fraudulent activities. Strict compliance regulations are examples of a fraud response
plan the small family business could have implemented to refrain the perpetrators
from fraudulent incidents, protect organizational assets and the organization s going
concern.
Corporate fraud was the cornerstone for the strict implementation of the Sarbanes
Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX). SOX implements many compliance regulations, but one of
its regulations, specifically Section 404, relates to an organization s internal control
procedures with the purpose of protecting organizational assets and investors interest.
Consequently, organizations, big or small, private or public, are prone to fraud. SOX
s compliance of internal control procedures is developed through the Committee of
Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) known as the COSO
framework that consists of the following procedures: control environment, risk
assessment, control activities, information and communication and monitoring. Each

hapter 5.Solutions Beyond the Ordinary: Adaptations and Alternatives
5.1Advantages and Adaptations of Mud and Stone
The use of mud and stone is mainly due to affordability. They cannot manage
construction completely without cement. They use it for the plinths and foundations.
They have used lime wherever possible but over the years lime plaster has proven
difficult to maintain.
This shows that it is practically impossible for them to construct purely out of mud
and stone.
What is interesting is the use of steel in combination with wattle and daub in Proto
Village. In the dome house they have used a geodesic steel framework over which
they have filled alternate triangles in with wattle and daub.
This concept can be taken even further and could possible lead to the construction of
large span mud structures.
The main problem they are facing is roofing materials. Thatch roofs are the most
practical for this weather and budget but they also require a lot of maintenance.
Another option would be to continue using aluminium sheeting but this will have to
be insulated properly.

The Plot
A family that consists of a grandmother, father, mother, and three grandchildren
from Atlanta plans to go to Florida for a family vacation. The grandmother is
refusing to go to Florida because she has her connection in east Tennessee (O
Connor 38). She points out from an article that the Misfit is on the loose and is
headed toward Florida and that the children had been to Florida before (O Connor

was a lady (O Connor 38). The grandmother secretly brings along her cat because
she does not want the cat to accidentally asphyxiate himself (O Connor 38) if he was
to be left alone. The grandmother is too particular with the trip, that she takes the

not want the patrolmen to ticket Bailey and ruin their vacation.
During the trip, the grandmother keeps talking about how beautiful the scenery is in
Georgia, but John Wesley thinks otherwise. The grandmother tells John Wesley to

The crucial role of the Philippine government on wildlife conservation
Thesis Statement: The Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (R.A.
9174) of the Philippines should be prioritized and reinstated because of its failure to
serve its purpose in the past, its ability to lessen the rising human caused extinction
rates, and its possible influence in restoring and promoting action regarding wildlife
conservation.
The loss of biodiversity and wildlife is becoming a larger problem every year yet most
people disregard it and its consequences. Wildlife plays a big part in maintaining
environmental support to human life serving as a source of food, contributing to
agriculture, aiding in medical research, and many more. The continued erosion of
ecosystem and species diversity threatens the progress to a sustainable society and
lessens the chances of stable environmental conditions in the future. As the effects of
human actions become more damaging to the environment and the situation of
wildlife worsens, the government must step up and introduce national policies for
conservation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

successful. The policy itself does not require modifications. It is in the process of
following its objectives that begs for reform. The government may start by changing
current policies that allow and invite the misuse of wildlife and other environmental
resources. Aside from formulating environmental policies for conservation, the
government should also consider altering policies that motivate citizens to exploit the
environment. Such policies are those which promote over exploitation of forests,
damaging habitats for the purpose of urbanization, and the overuse of natural
resources (Reid, Barber Miller,

The book of Hebrews was written to the Christian Hebrews by an unknown author.
The author addresses how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament sacrificial system. He
/she also compares Jesus to Melchizedek a priest appointed by God. The Author also
addresses how Jesus fulfills the Old Covenant Therefore, one can conclude that Jesus
became the High Priest by sprinkling his own blood on the mercy seat as the perfect
sacrifice to atone for sin, fulfilling the Old Covenant which was conditional.
The Book of Hebrews was written to Christian Jews, addressing Jesus position as
the High Priest and that he fulfilled the Old Testament sacrificial system. In the Old
Testament, the only way to atone for sin was to use the Jewish sacrificial system.
This first took place in the Tabernacle then later in the Temple, and it was only
performed by priests who were from the tribe of Levi. The High priest would enter
the Holy of Holies once a year on the day of atonement, to make a blood sacrifice. On
this day the High Priest would take the blood of a bull and sprinkle it on the mercy
seat to atone for his and the people s sins. Moreover, this sacrificial system is ... Show

39. What Do You Mean By Deborah Tannen
Conversation is a ritual every person must encounter throughout their lives in order
to function properly with one another in today s society. However, every individual
has a different idea about what s appropriate when approaching someone in any sort
of conversation; that is why we are referred to as individuals (Tannen 327). There are
thousands of diverse languages to speak to one another with, in fact that means there
are thousands of different ways to offend each other with our words. Within those
languages there are several contrasting gestures that can offend any single person,
such as the amount of times individuals apologize in one meeting, giving criticism
too harshly, or thanking someone so often it does not seem genuine. In the article
What Do You Mean, Deborah Tannen touches upon apologies, criticism, and thank
yous in further detail to explain where individuals go wrong within conversation
and how they can fix their actions. Individuals find it satisfying to please others by
being polite because it is the right thing to do, however like myself others need to
stand up for themselves and get directly to the point now in order to avoid conflict
later in life.
Individuals use unnecessary apologies to please one another in order to avoid feeling
like undesirable situations are their fault, but must learn to stop taking the blame and
stand up for themselves. In fact, many people conceive an apology as self

41. Philosophy of Rouseau and Lord of the Flies by William...
Living in modern societies, it can be difficult to decipher what person would be
like in a natural state; without civilizations, rules, and punishments for misbehavior.
Does society corrupt our morals or does it keep us civil? The philosopher Jean
Jacques Rousseau believed that people are inherently good. Without civilizations,
humans are good beings with empathy, kindness, and well developed morals.
However, he believed that societies corrupt our morals and are what make the
change in us to become evil or bad . The author of the novel Lord of the Flies,
William Golding, however, believed that in a primitive environment, humans are evil.
Without a society watching over us, humans will become barbaric brutes. Jean
Jacques Rousseau(born 1712) was a philosopher whose beliefs were that humans, in
a natural, primitive state without the influence of any societies, are good beings.
People s uncorrupted morals are not washed away when they are without societies.
Rousseau also believed that a society is what corrupts a human. He believed
ownership of land or property is a lie, because the products of Earth are for all
humans to share, saying: The first man who, having fenced in a piece of land, said
This is mine, and found people naГЇve enough to believe him, that man was the true
founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many
horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the

42. Essay on Revenge In Two Literary Works
Revenge as a theme is cleverly built upon throughout Hamlet; with it being the
driving force behind three of the key characters in the play. Revenge is a
frighteningly vicious emotion, which causes people to act blindly and without
reason. In Poe s, The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor enacts revenge for reasons
unknown. Hamletin contrast, has all the motive in the world to complete his task; yet
he constantly hesitates. The text reveals that the need for revenge creates a
stranglehold on the genuine emotions, thoughts, and actions of three characters:
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, Laertes; son of Polonius, and Fortinbras; Prince of
Norway. This hold makes the characters act beyond their standard ethical positions
and makes them helpless to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is obstructed from his genuine rational moral view and if he were morally
coherent, he would have seen that taking such drastic action removes himself from
his genuine thoughts. In The Cask , the perspective we are given on the story is
limited; which allows for an open interpretation of what his true motives for
revenge are. As Baraban states Montresor elaborates a sophisticated philosophy of
revenge: I must not only punish, but punish with impunity (48) presenting the
reader with a vibrant view of what he intends to do. The question one begs is, for
what reason? Most readers would finish this story and assert that mentally,
Montresor is insane. As Baraban states, Poe s intriguing silence about the nature of
the insult that made Montresor murder Fortunato has given rise to explanations of
Montresor s deed through insanity. Richard M. Fletcher, for example, maintains
that Montresor s actions are irrational and that therefore he is mad. (50) Montresor
states at the opening of the story, you,who so well know the nature of my soul ( are
words likely said on his death bed to his confessor; being that he committed this
deed fifty years prior, it would make sense that he is finally coming clean. Moreover,
since he is commenting on the nature of his soul, it is plausible to assume that
Montresor has been deemed crazy

abortion is so relevant is because every day women decide to have an abortion, thus

45. Mental Illness In Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
In Godwin s story A Sorrowful Woman , the mother has a series of very complex
feelings and emotions. From the story, it can be inferred that this is a woman with
a sudden onset of mental illness, a woman who has lost her identity and sense of
belonging; and a woman who is consciously aware of all this, knowing she is a
burden to her loved ones.
This mother shows signs of her mental illness almost right off the bat, when, after
looking at her son, she began yelping without tears, retching in between (39). The
onset of this illness appears to be very sudden. The story begins with One winter
evening she looked at them....the sight of them made her so sad and sick she did
not want to see them ever again (39). It seems as if just one evening she suddenly
begins to feel this way. When the son says, It s alright Mommy (39), causing the
father to respond Mommy is sick (39), shows that the father did not have time to
explain this to the son any time before. There is no evidence given in the story as to
what caused her mental illness, though we can infer that the onset was quite sudden.
Throughout the story, the woman is never identified, only being referred to as the
woman (40). So we never have a sense of her identity outside of the fact that she is a
wife and a mother with a mental illness. She also tries to find herself and her
identity. She was a young queen, a virgin in a tower, she was the previous inhabitant,
the girl with all the energies. She tried these

Nicaragua was a primary example for the efforts and motives of the United States
during the Cold War. Nicaragua was one of those places where freedom was at risk,
together with Afghanistan and Angola and even Poland which made the United

democracy of the time. Following the election of President Reagan, there was a
resurgence in American efforts of preventing the spread of communism. Although
Nicaragua had been in the sights of the United States for so long, they revitalized
their efforts in a new scheme with Reagan s administrations involvement. In

Since Darwin s Origin of the Species, we ve been told that sexual monogamy comes
natural. Mainstream science, as well as religious and cultural institutions, has
maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man s possessions
and protection were exchanged for a woman s fertility and fidelity.
In this groundbreaking book, however, Christopher Ryan and Cacilda JethГЎ argue
that human beings evolved in egalitarian groups that shared food, child care, and,
often, sexual partners. Weaving together evidence from anthropology, archaeology,

I turn now to the next, and most important, aspect of Ryan and JethГЎ s narrative: the
nature of ancestral human sexuality. As mentioned above, the adoption of the bonobo
model lays the foundation for their conception of ancestral mating as promiscuous
and fluid, and males unconcerned with paternity. Flowing from the bonobo model
combined with the ethics of generosity and reciprocation described as vitally
important to fiercely egalitarian modern foragers, is their hypothesis that Socio Erotic
Exchanges (S.E.Ex. for short) strengthen the bonds among individuals in small scale
nomadic societies, forming a crucial, durable web of affection, affiliation, and mutual
obligation . In addition, they go on to note that Without frequent S.E.Ex., it s doubtful
that foraging bands could have maintained social equilibrium and fecundity over the
millennia .
Still working on the similarities and differences between humans and their ancestries,
in Sex at Dawn we can find, for example, a very interesting discussion about human
female orgasm, in where the authors of the book point out that female orgasmic
behavior has been observed in some primate species with multimale multifemale
mating systems, whereas the monogamous gibbon female does not exhibit such
behavior. Following this, Symons (1979) by product argument is summarized, and a

When defining great literature, graphic novels are often the last source scholars
and educators consider. In general, graphic novels are seen as low brow, mass
culture entertainment or as pedagogical tools (Long 6). In recent years graphic
novels have proven to be worthy of being considered great literature and valuable
tools in the classroom. Comic books should not be viewed simply as aesthetic
objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a
specific context. Our education curriculums are heavily relied on reading
comprehension, which has proven to be a struggle for visual learners. Graphic
novels offer value, variety, and new medium for literacy that acknowledges the
impact of visuals. Novels such as Mausby Art Spiegelman and The Sandman (vertigo)
by Neil Gainman, not only appeal to visual learners, but are useful across all
curriculums. Maus and The Sandman offer different style narratives and visuals that
reflect the diverse nature of graphic novels. The variety in compositions between
these two demonstrate the strengths of the graphic novelgenre, and how they can be
considered valuable sources of education. The use of word image combination allow
the reader of graphic novels to experience much more than what words allot. For
visual learners that struggle with reading compression, the visual components of
graphic novels help portray the context in a medium that is easier for these learners
to digest. Maus by Art Spiegelman is one of
