We can talk about political style of different authors and their works, which are having political character under any circumstances and in each context as indoctrination  or propagandist instrument. There are also works which are not political at all, and their relation to diplomacy is only occasional and temporary. Also postmodern historical paradigm, being used for politicization purpose as well as assumptions that may contribute to the politicization of historical research and their means of delivery.

The paper provides an overview of mostly nineteenth-century concepts of nation and state, juxtaposed with sociological theories. It begins with the defi nitions of the basic concepts and their relations, along with the change in their meaning over time. The author presents also the origins, development of the Polish nation and state, comparing the description with sociological theories. Next, the Enlightenment, Romantic and positivist concepts of nation and state were presented together with views prevailing in particular currents of the Polish socio-political thought. According to the author, the idea of nation and state gradually crystallised in the Polish political thought, to take on suggestibility and become an essential component of sociallife, albeit this process occurred in a variety of ideological milieux, with its culminating phase at different points in history. The author emphasised the polymorphism of the idea of nation and state as well as a variety of contexts in which they may occur.

The author shows that the weakness of the EU economic units results not only from treaty provisions, but also from the staffing of the most important EU positions. According to the author, there are two centers which compete for the title of the European leadership. One is the political leaders who stand at the forefront of the EU (the leadership of the European Council and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy as well as European Commission Leadership). The other center is associated with financial leadership in Europe, headed by the political leaders of Germany and France. When looking for the causes of difficulty in creating European leadership, the author first of all points to the lack of the EU’s own identity.

This paper investigates political parties’ attitudes towards the past. It explores the ideological inspirations and patterns of behavior of the parties founded in Poland after 1989, which were more or less consciously ‘borrowed’ from the political groups operating in the interwar and Communist periods respectively. The parties have been found to draw both upon democratic and authoritarian traditions. In addition to examining the ideological declarations and public utterances made by politicians, and proposals for systemic solutions, the paper also looks at political practice in the broad sense. The aim of this work is to determine how political traditions could help to shape the political identities of contemporary parties and to identify the historical references favored by political groups in post-1989 Poland. It portrays the political parties’ stances on tradition and shows how they are used in political rivalry.

W artykule autor podjął próbę pokazania wybranych koncepcji gospodarczych Jana Bobrzyńskiego, polityka konserwatywnego i ideologa działającego w dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym.

The article is an attempt to analyze two works by Jan Bobrzyński written at the end of World War Two and in the early period of Polish People’s Republic: Współczesne zadania socjalizmu (The Modern Tasks of Socialism) and Die grosse deutsche Lüge (The Great German Lie). The author compares the contents of the two writings with Bobrzyński’s views from before WWII. The question is pondered whether Jan Borzyński’s post-war choices, such as joining the Polish Socialist Party or fierce anti- Germanism, were the result of the evolution of his views, ideological disorientation, or simply opportunism manifested in adjusting his own beliefs to the needs of the moment?
