Saint Gregory the Great (the Dialogue in oriental tradition) formulates a very significant principle: “Holy Scriptures are simultaneously developping with their readers”. This principle is based on the fact of Holy Spirit’s presence in Scripture and it’s reader’s life. Gregory mentions in his Epistle to Theodore: “what really is Holy Scripture, unless a kind of letter from omnipotent God unto his own creature? Learn to understand God’s heart through His words, to flamely desire eternal goods …”. Every faithful receives Him within, conforms his life with His life and apprehends His message in the Holy Spirit. On his writings, Saint Gregory demonstrates the experiential and eschatological contemplation of Holy Scripture. Scripture is a secure way for God’s knowledge, and biblical figures constitute pedagogic models, which contribute on virtues’ development; this truth defines Saint Gregory’s thought. The words of Holy Scriptures become tasteful for the reader’s heart. On the 2nd of June 1985, Pope John Paul II (1920-2005) published the Encyclical Letter “Slavorum Apostoli” (Apostles of the Slavs) extolling the work of the evangelization of the Slavic world by the two Thessalonian saint brothers Cyril and Methodius. The Pope highlights the heritage of the two saints in the Slavic world, which is deeper and stronger than any division. The Thessalonian brothers were not only the inheritors of the faith but also of the culture of Ancient Greece, carried on by Byzantium. Besides, the importance of this heritage is very important for the entire European culture and, directly or indirectly, for the world. The saints are characterized as timeless missionary role models, because they realized that a necessary prerequisite for the success of their work was their decision to identify with the life and traditions of the peoples, to whom they carried the evangelical message. During the first centuries of Christianity, the Fathers of the Western Church, such as Jerome, Hilary, Ambrose and Augustine, tend to spiritually interpret the Holy Scripture, combining the Old with the New Testament, suggesting that Bible passages can be interpreted through a variety of prisms. Ambrose concentrates on a moral and allegorical-spiritual interpretation, adhering to the principle that the Holy Scripture can reveal to us the mystery of Christ and of Church. The books of Genesis, the Song of Songs, the Psalms and The Gospel of Luke are the ones that are further explained and analyzed by St. Ambrose. Saint Ambrose’s interpretative activity is mainly of a pastoral nature and is closely associated with his episcopal ministry in Milan, of which he had a profound consciousness. St. Ambrose was more than a competent preacher of the Divine word; he strongly believed in his holy duty of transmitting the divine commandments to people, and in fact, he defended them in the course o...

Pope Leo I, during two very intense and creative decades (440461) 1 of his life and particularly while he was responsible for the pastoral care of the church of Rome, left us as a legacy among his other writings and Homilies, a collection of nineteen wonderful Sermons. The specific group of Sermons appears in the manuscript tradition with the title "De Passione Domini". His sermons are part of the Easter cycle which includes two more homilies about Resurrection and another two concerning the Ascension of the Lord. The examination of the events of the Passion and the characters who are involved can be perceived in the light of His Resurrection and His Ascension. In his sermons, Leo concentrates on different gospel narratives of the Passion and on the persons whom Jesus contacted during these crucial times. Furthermore, he focuses on the personalities of these people, going from the Jews to their officials, from Judas to Peter, from Simon of Cyrene to women, and from the res...

Many Christian intellectuals, and ecclesiastical writers, clung from the beginning more on the Greek philosophical ideas than on the biblical view of sexuality. By Philo of Alexandria, Platonism was introduced in the school of Alexandria and it also affected Origen, which in turn had an impact on a large part of Christendom. How ascetic rigor can become a drama was shown in the case of the latter, who was self-castrated, although the fact that Paul’s advice was the following "those who cannot remain abstinent, let's get married. It is better to get married with someone than to be burnt from desire". To excessive ascetic rigor, of montanistic shades, moved and Origen‘s contemporary, Tertullian, who also brought a tremendous impact on western Christianity. During this period in the Church develops a struggle between two fronts. On one hand an ascetic spirit that rejects sexuality and on the other liberality, supported by the Gnostics, who teach that the spiritual man is ...

It was a peaceful evangelization, seated in love, free of any nationalistic arrogance, without ethnic exclusiveness or racial prejudices.
The two saints are the connecting links or a spiritual bridge between Western and Eastern tradition, which flow in the long tradition of the Catholic Church. They are the champions, as well as the patrons of the ecumenical endeavor of the sister Churches of East and West to regain through dialogue and prayer visible unity in perfect and full communion.
Cyril and Methodius had a healthy consciousness of the universality of the Church, into which all people, nations, languages and cultures could fit, having their own role and their own place in the mysterious plan of God and world history of salvation.

The teachings of the Fathers of the West persist in ascetical and pastoral address the issue with soteriological perspective. Trying to eliminate human passions, to ensure no prostitution, disorder and agitation of the soul from the birth of desire until the saturation. Know that passions destroy virtues lay in the soul crafty mood, neglect prayer, selfishness, insensitivity, sticking in the world and despair. Cause sedation of mind and affect the soul, putting real tyranny on humans because of their power and amazing speed of action of the demon, especially in case of lust, inciting prostitution. In the post-rift period prevails in the West a phobic syndrome around love and sexuality, arising exclusively within ecclesiastical contexts, it should be noted, are responsible for religionized of Christianity. The absolutism of strict trends in prior ecclesiastical tradition with guilt complexes, condemnation of the flesh and the devaluation of the female sex are largely responsible for the similar tendencies, which en effect, developed and Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
