We present a new set of elemental analysis from several pre-Islamic archaeological sites in Morocco, using non-destructive ED-XRF techniques. The main feature is the high number of objects made of unalloyed copper, even in recent periods when bronze alloy is usual. Some copper-tin and brass alloys have been detected."

We present the results of six years of archaeological work carried out in Heping Dao, Keelung, northern Taiwan. The site has revealed a rich archaeological record spanning a sequence that comprehends most of the history of Taiwan, including the most salient historical landmarks in it. The study of this long-term sequence of habitation in Heping Dao throughout prehistory to current times, allows us to attempt a historical archaeology of the longue duree of the place that in turn enables the establishment of comparisons between periods and raising of specific questions, among them: the general understanding of cultural transformation along the Neolithic and the Iron Age, and in turn the transition Iron Age/Aboriginal historic times in Taiwan, which in our view has to be observed as a history of continuity rather than of interruptions; the recognition of the Chinese presence in Taiwan in the pre-European period; the implantation of the European colony and its effects on the local populations; the differing material remains and impacts caused by the presence of pre-European Chinese and the Qing occupation; and the potential for a comparison between the European and the Japanese colonial projects as seen in the material record.

The production of iron in Biscay (Basque Country, Spain) has been a hallmarrk of this territory throughout its history. The Archaeology team of the Basque Country Mining Museum has spent 14 years studying the origins of this activity through the evidences left at the old pre-hidraulic iron production workshops (mountainside ironworks). It has catalogued 170 archaeometallurgical sites of this tipe in Biscay, and the excavation of some of them has led to the knowledge of the different stages of the production process that took place in these workshops. The investigation has also reproduced the work carried out in a mountainside ironworks from the High Middle Ages, and it has currently started the characterization process of this type of activity through the study of the collected materials.

Polarized reflectivity spectra, tight binding band structure calculations as well as magnetoresistance and magnetization measurements have been carried out for the new quasi-two-dimensional organic conductor β″-(BEDO-TTF)5[CsHg(SCN)4]2. Polarized reflectivity and optical conductivity spectra have shown that at low temperatures this salt exhibits metallic behaviour in the direction perpendicular to the BEDO-TTF stacks, but non-metallic behaviour in the direction parallel to the

ABSTRACT Tight-binding band structure calculations for the room temperature crystal structure of the new family of (BEDT-TTF)4M[Fe(CN)5NO]2 (M=Na, K, Rb, NH4, Cs, Tl) salts are reported. It is shown that the Fermi surface of these salts contains two contributions: (a) a strongly warped non-nested open part and (b) a contribution which can be open or closed depending on minor changes in the donor–donor interactions which in either case exhibits well-nested portions. Because of these features, the pressure dependence of both the magnetoresistance measurements and the possible occurrence of density wave instabilities would be very interesting to study.

Abstract The aim of this work is to present the microscopic and microanalytical study made by means of SEM-EdX for the identification and characterization of gilding techniques over different archaeological objects from central Iberian Peninsula, which are dated between 5
