During the Bronze Age, in many Western Mediterranean areas (Spain, France, Italian peninsula, islands), we can observe the development of a series of fortified centers and structures, often on high places, aimed to the defense of strategic locations and resources. These fortifications, which began to be built from the Copper Age, are the answer to a need for possession and control of the territory linked to a greater degree of social complexity, with an ever-increasing hierarchy and the rise to power of persons or groups who very often show the possession of weapons and, consequently, can be related to warlike activities. In Sardinia, Nuragic phenomenon developed during Protohistoy: an extraordinary culture ranging from the Middle to Late Bronze Age (XVIII-XII centuries BC), some of whose features could last from Final Bronze Age until the beginnings of Iron Age (XI-VIII centuries BC), characterized by the building of great monuments, especially nuraghi, cyclopean-type constructions similar to towers. These great buildings have multiple functions, but in particular were used to surveil the whole island territory. We have mainly carried out different GIS analyzes on different sample areas with the aim to reading the visual-perceptive aspects and to try to research about the relationship between settlements and territory and the mobility systems across different territories through the applying of the least-cost path analysis. In this work we want to underline the importance that expanded accessibility has assumed, especially in the last twenty years, for the fruition of cultural heritage, becoming the basis of any good project of
enhancement and conservation of places of the memory. The work of professionals of the sector takes on a particular importance because, by projecting the accessibility of these places, it marks the passage
from the phases of the study and research to those of enhancement and fruition, by relating the needs of the past with those of the present. In this work we will illustrate examples and good practices related
to the accessibility of cultural heritage.

The small town of Elini, the smaller village of the historic region of Ogliastra (Sardinia), is located in a strategic position between the mountains of Gennargentu and the Ogliastra sea and it counts on a big
cultural heritage tied to the agro-pastoral tradition and to the industrial archaeology. The project “Elini Paese Museo” is born from the need of enhance the cultural heritage, by inserting as starting points the
museum and the railway park, as possible future poles of attraction for the local cultural system. The main goal of the project “Elini Paese Museo” is the recognition of the cultural heritage as an essential
part of intercultural diversity and dialogue, through the creation of a path built with the local community and made of activities, such as workshops and seminars.

Abstract: This contribution proposes an unpublished bronze fragment of "boxer" from the nuragic sanctuary of Santa Vittoria di Serri and introduces the study of the iconography of the so-called "boxer" in Sardinian bronzes, starting from the analysis of the statues from the archaeological site of Mont'e Prama (Cabras). This contribution also presents an experimental reconstruction of the boxer's glove, proposing a different interpretation for the instrument.

The territory of Sarcidano is very important for the study of the settlements of the Nuragic population in the central-southern Sardinia (Italy), as the archaeological evidence of the late phases of Bronze Age and Early Iron Age shows. In particular, the great sanctuary of Santa Vittoria at Serri stands out on the homonymous plateau and exercises a control of the surrounding territory, corresponding in whole or part to the territories of the Serri, Escolca, Gergei, Isili, and Nurri municipalities. In this work, we experimented with an analytical procedure not yet widely used in the study of settlement processes in the Bronze and Iron Ages: that of Spatial Autocorrelation Techniques. The advantage of this approach lies in the fact that it not only shows spatial relationships, but does so on the basis of different values connected to the spatial data. Results showed that the Nuragic monuments were built near routes of passage so as to control the valleys below the basalt plains. This demonstrates the existence of a specific and organized approach for exploiting and monitoring the landscape, in which settlement choices depend on functionality criteria, with both nuraghi and villages having a key role on the strategic control of the territory.

The territory of Mid-Southern Sardinia – and in particular
the »Sarcidano« area – is very rich in sites of preand
proto-historic times. There are also many megalithic
monuments dated to Late Neolithic and Copper Age (early
IV – early II millennium BC), such as allées couvertes and
menhirs and statues-menhirs. Among those, we report an interesting
menhir located in the territory of Serri, called »Sa
Porta«. The menhir was reported in the 1940s by the scholar
Giovanni Lilliu, who – in a time when the megalithic phenomenon
was not yet well known – wrongly dated it to the
Roman period, as pertinent to the Roman town of Biora, localized
nearby. In the following years, the traces of the menhir
were lost, so the scholars and the locals believed that it
was definitely lost or destroyed. The menhir has been »rediscovered
« during recent research named the »Serri Survey
Project« (University of Cagliari): thanks to the renovation
of a country road, the menhir (which is on the edge of the
road) was almost completely covered, by protecting it from
removal or damages. This is a discovery of great importance,
as it is expected that the menhir is still placed in its
original position, which is quite an unusual event regarding
Sardinian menhirs, which are often discovered collapsed
or in secondary position. The menhir – in good storage conditions
– is constituted by a monolith of schist well worked
with hammer. It is 1.50 m tall and it has a sub-ogival profile.
It is probably part of the class of »proto-anthropomorphic
menhirs«. The »Sa Porta« menhir is well placed in the megalithic
context of Mid-Southern Sardinia, and it has several
comparisons with other menhirs in the surrounding area,
above all those of the megalithic and hypogeic site of Pranu
Mutteddu – Goni.

The SERRI ARCHEOWebGIS project aims to promote and enhance
the Nuragic Sanctuary of Santa Vittoria in Serri, one of the most important and
distinctive nuragic site in Sardinia, through a web platform to insert and consult
the historical and archaeological events of the Sanctuary. Numerous facilities and
thousands of archaeological finds have been highlighted by several research works,
but a database collecting information related to the discovery of the sanctuary,
the description of the structures (reliefs, plans), the historical documents (old
photographs, manuscripts, letters) and the list of archaeological finds, is missing.
The creation of SERRI Archeo-WebGIS platform, based on open source software,
will be designed as the data management tool, and will be addressed both to general
user (eg. the occasional tourist or the enthusiast user who may also contribute to the
data increasing), and to the researcher (eg. the archaeologist who uses the system for
scientific purposes). In order to be used by different users and in different ways, the
SERRI Archeo-WebGIS platform have to be based on an suitable and flexible data
model representing the archaeological site, its elements and their relationship.
The data model presented in this paper takes into account the fact that the
platform will include:
- the management of the linking with existing regional databases
(interoperability)
- the management of the data quality (metadata)
- the management of the visitor feedback
- the creation of apps and user interfaces for accessing the data, according on
the user type.
The data model have to be repeatable in a wider territorial context.

Summary: The protohistoric monuments in the territory of Serri. First data – The study of the archaeological landscape of the
municipal area of Serri seems to be interesting especially for the presence of many archaeological sites, among of these
various settlements of protohistoric Age show up. It stands out for its importance the village-sanctuary of Santa Vittoria,
well known in the archaeological literature. The territorial analysis, realized with GIS instruments, allows to detect at least
two settlement systems which, between the Middle Bronze Age and the Final Bronze Age, monitored widely the territory.

Key words: Protohistory; landscape; nuraghi; settlement; GIS.
