The availability of sufficient chilling during bud dormancy plays an important role in the subsequent yield and quality of apple fruit, whereas, insufficient chilling availability negatively impacts the apple production. The transcriptome profiling during bud dormancy release and initial fruit set under low and high chill conditions was performed using RNA-seq. The comparative high number of differentially expressed genes during bud break and fruit set under high chill condition indicates that chilling availability was associated with transcriptional reorganization. The comparative analysis reveals the differential expression of genes involved in phytohormone metabolism, particularly for Abscisic acid, gibberellic acid, ethylene, auxin and cytokinin. The expression of Dormancy Associated MADS-box, Flowering Locus C-like, Flowering Locus T-like and Terminal Flower 1-like genes was found to be modulated under differential chilling. The co-expression network analysis indentified two hi...

Winter dormancy is a well known mechanism adopted by temperate plants, to mitigate the chilling temperature of winters. However, acquisition of sufficient chilling during winter dormancy ensures the normal phenological traits in subsequent growing period. Thus, low temperature appears to play crucial roles in growth and development of temperate plants. Apple, being an important temperate fruit crop, also requires sufficient chilling to release winter dormancy and normal phenological traits, which are often associated with yield and quality of fruits. DNA cytosine methylation is one of the important epigenetic modifications which remarkably affect the gene expression during various developmental and adaptive processes. In present study, methylation sensitive amplified polymorphism was employed to assess the changes in cytosine methylation during dormancy, active growth and fruit set in apple, under differential chilling conditions. Under high chill conditions, total methylation was d...

An investigation was conducted during the kharf, 2008 to study the effect of nitrogen fertilization on production potential and economics of rice genotypes. Growth and yield of lowland rice genotypes differed significantly due to application of different levels of nitrogen. Among the tested cultivars hybrid PA6201 was found significantly superior to other genotypes in increasing the growth and yield atbibutes and it is followed by another hybrid PHB-71. Among all the three genotypes hybrid PA6201 recorded the maximum grain (6335 kg ha−1) and straw (8892 kg ha−1) yield. Two hybrids PA6201, PHB-71 recorded 19.84%, 15.61% of yield advantage respectively over the variety Rajavadlu. Application of incremental doses of nitrogen significantly improved the growth, yield atbibutes resulting in higher grain and straw yield. In all the three genotypes net returns and benefit cost ratio were increased with the increase in N levels. Among all the treatments hybrid PA6201 at 150% RDN recorded the highest net returns and benefit cost ratio than any other treatment.

With the modernization in construction industry and keeping in view the need of sustainable structures, especially in developing countries, requirement of replacement or alternative for traditional construction materials, such as steel, is rising its head. Considering the frequent tectonic activities around the globe, Bamboo seems to be an adequate replacement of steel for reinforcement in concrete. In Indian and Australian tectonic plate alone, 10 percent of world's seismic activities having magnitude M5 – M7 are observed on an average in a year. Also, with the type of explosion we are facing in terms of population increase, it is also required to provide economical and safer habitat to our common man. In view of the fact that multi-storeyed buildings are popularly constructed now a days to accommodate as much lives as we can, risk of rapid deterioration in the system of conventional construction material is rising its head. With the over consumption of construction material th...

In the globalised business environment, no business can survive unless it is efficient and makes productive use of its resources. The small scale machinery&parts industry in Punjab has stood the test of time and has succeeded in meeting squarely, all the challenges posed during the pre-liberalisation and liberalisation period. The present study is an endeavour to investigate growth pattern and productivity trends of small scale machinery and parts industry of Punjab. The growth of industry has been measured in terms of four variables namely: number of units, fixed investment, employment and production. Yearly growth rates have been computed to glance at the year to- year fluctuations in growth and compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) have been worked out to find the impact of the policies of liberalized regime on growth of this industry. Productivity trends have been sketched in terms of capital intensity, capital output ratio and partial factor productivities. In order to comprehend the strengths and weaknesses of the industry, SWOT analysis has been conducted. The study observed that the policies of liberalization have enhanced capital investment and factor productivities, but resulted in sluggish growth in number of units and remarkable deceleration in the employment opportunities.

The present study is an attempt to identify the core economic factors affecting the FDI inflows to the developing countries of Asia by making use of the Exploratory Factor Analytic Technique. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was followed after ensuring the adequacy of data with the help of correlation coefficient matrix, Kaiser-Meyer-Oklin index and Bartlett's Test of Sphericity. PCA is done with Varimax Orthogonal Rotation. The results found indicate that the core economic factors influencing the FDI inflows to the developing countries of Asia are-the economic strength of the state, infrastructure level, size of the market, technological advancement and the availability of skilled manpower. The hosts ensuring all these factors working positively can provide a good deal of attraction to the foreign investors.

We demonstrate the synthesis of Mn(2+)- and Co(2+)-based coordination networks using two Co(3+)-based metalloligands differing by the position of the appended arylcarboxylate groups. The structural analyses reveal topologically distinct networks with pores of variable dimensions allowing facile diffusion of substrates and/or reagents. All four networks function as heterogeneous catalysts for the olefin epoxidation reactions using tert-butyl-hydroperoxide without any requirement of solvent or additive. Control and optimization experiments illustrate recyclable network-based catalysts that make them attractive candidates for the "greener" oxidation chemistry processes.

Artificial intelligence based techniques capitulate better performance in identifying the intrusions than other conventional approaches used in this field, but no single classifier is capable of identifying intrusions with acceptable accuracy. So, there is a necessity of integrating more than one classifier. This paper mainly focuses on constructing an ensemble of classifiers for classification of network traffic. In ensemble approach numerous machine learning algorithms are pooled. The main inspiration behind combining these classifiers is to take advantage of the powers of each classifier of the ensemble to get an overall more accurate classification. The existing combination techniques do not perform well when base classifiers are used with low accuracy or low diversity. The idea of the paper is to find promising classifiers for each type of network traffic class and combine them by proposing an effective combination technique so as to increase the overall accuracy. This paper proposes a combination technique is based on weighted voting. It uses two weights, one weight is assigned to each traffic class and the second weight is assigned to each classifier for each class. Traffic classes are weighted in order of their error-rate of classification i.e. the class which is hard to classify is given more weight. Classifiers are weighted by their ability to classify the instance of the particular traffic class. The results indicate the superiority of the proposed combination technique over the other combination techniques. In all experiments, the ensemble was able to increase the overall accuracy over every individual classifier used.

The objective of this paper is to compare various techno-economic parameters of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) and Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps through a detailed experimentation and analysis. CFLs and LED lamps are energy-efficient (EE) luminaires as compared to low-cost incandescent lamps. Consequently, as part of Demand Side Management (DSM) initiatives across the nation, incandescent lamps are being steadily replaced by CFLs in the recent years; and the focus now is directed toward accelerating the use of LED lamps for lighting applications due to their high lumen efficiency and long operating life. However, both CFLs and LED lamps cause harmonic distortions in the distribution networks. The paper examines the amount of distortion power (as defined in IEEE-1459-2010 Standard) injected by these energy efficient lamps and their lumen efficacy. An economic comparison considering Annual Life Cycle Cost (ALCC) has also been attempted in the paper

Ghrelin is a conserved vertebrate hormone that affects both GH release and appetite. We have cloned and characterized Atlantic halibut preproghrelin cDNA and examined for the first time preproghrelin expression during fish larval development using quantitative real-time PCR. In addition, cellular sites of expression in larvae and tissue-specific expression in 3-year-old halibut were studied. A full-length cDNA for preproghrelin was isolated from halibut stomach tissue. The 899 bp cDNA encodes an open reading frame of 105 amino acids that is comprised of a signal peptide and two peptides with high similarity to ghrelin and obestatin. The deduced amino acid sequence of halibut ghrelin peptide (GSSFLSPSHKPPKGKPPRA) shows significant conservation relative to other teleostean sequences and is identical to human ghrelin for the first seven amino acids of the sequence. The putative obestatin peptide is well-conserved among fishes but shares limited similarity with its human counterpart. Ex...

Conversion of 5/7-chloro-4H-1,4-benzothiazines and 1/3-chlorophenothiazines into sulfones is reported. The 5/7-chloro-4H-1,4-benzothiazines were synthesized by the condensation and oxidative cyclization of 2-amino 3/5-chlorobenzenethiol with β diketones in DMSO. The phenothiazines have been synthesized via Smiles rearrangement by the reaction of 2-amino-3/5-chlorobenzenethiol with halonitrobenzenes. 4H-1,4-Benzothiazine and phenothiazine sulfones have been prepared by the oxidation of benzothiazines and phenothiazines with 30% hydrogen peroxide
