The Internet has simplified information services provided in this ICT era. One can easily acquire the required knowledge and information on a single click, thus, making information generation and dissemination timely. Regrettably, this may not be so for categories of individuals who seemed to have deviated from the original plan of the Internet for academics. Hence, this study was necessitated to investigate the influence of the use of the Internet on the reading culture of students of Government College, Umuahia. Three objectives guided the study. The research design adopted was a survey research design. The population of the study comprised of 278 students of the College studied. The sampling technique used was a complete census. A questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, simple percentages and mean scores. The findings showed that majority of the students make use of the Internet to study, prepare for examin...

The study examined bibliographic control practices in the digital age from conceptual and theoretical framework perspectives. It illustrated selected conceptual model and theoretical framework that could be applied in the study of bibliographic control practices. The study related these theories and models to bibliographic control practices, with a focus on national bibliographic control agency. An author designed conceptual model was applied in order to bring out the tripartite roles of bibliographic control, which involve national bibliographic control, universal bibliographic control and universal availability of publications. In addition, the practices and their relationships were illustrated. Technology Acceptance model (TAM) propounded by Davis, 1989, and modified by the researcher was also applied to draw attention to the need for bibliographic agencies to embrace information and communication technology (ICT) in their practices; and also for users to accept and use technolog...

This study examined the effects of ICT skills in knowledge sharing by Library and Information Science (LIS) educators in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. Five (5) research objectives guided the study. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. C omplete census technique was adopted which involved the use of the entire population consisting of eight (8) core lecturers and ten (10) academic librarians who also lectures in the Department of Library and Information Science, making a total of eighteen (18) respondents.  A researcher-made 4-point instrument was used for data collection. Data obtained were analysed using frequency counts and mean scores. Findings of the study showed possession of some ICT skills such as social media utilization skills, web navigation skills, among others. It also revealed the sources through which LIS educators in MOUAU acquire their ICT skills. These sources include personal reading/research and attending seminars/conferences, amon...

This paper examines the use of journals in twelve (12) academic libraries drawn from universities and polytechnics in Nigeria. The study was guided by five (5) objectives from which some hypotheses were formulated. Inferential survey design was used while respondents consisted of 542 library patrons selected through availability sampling method. Data generated through a customized questionnaire were analyzed using frequency tables, percentages and mean while the hypotheses were tested with t-test statistics. The results revealed that the major users of journals in Nigerian academic libraries are lecturers, researchers and graduate students who consult these information materials for various academic and research purposes. Academic peer–review journals were the most widely used amongst the available types of journals while the least used were the electronic journals. Majority of respondents accessed these journals through improvised index cards while the primary determinant of usage ...
