This study explores the relationship between the new migration literature and reflective anthropology. The relationship between literature and anthropology becomes more and more significant and provides fruitful reading keys for transcultural ethnography. Migration literature in Italian is investigated through first and second generation migrant writers, so much so as to define a post-colonial Italian literature. Gender, ethnicity and migration configure as the keystones of the new plural and transcultural subjectivities of post-modern Italy.

Italy's society, which has witnessed significant migratory flows for several decades, has been experiencing profound socio-cultural transformations. In particular, migratory flows have reshaped Italian culture and new identities belonging to multiple worlds, cultures, and languages have emerged. In this multi-ethnic Italy, an increasing number of immigrant women have become entrepreneurs, while others stand out as experimenters of new musical languages by proposing their diversity. This essay aims to analyse their significant role in Italy, and above all how these young second-generation women live and interpret their Italianness and how they express and assert themselves.

The chapter discusses, through the methodology of cultural anthropology, the character-person Valentina OK. Valentina was a transperson who used aesthetic surgery as transvestism and internalised the values of the femminiello culture, thus establishing continuity between old and new practices. Valentina used new communication media to circulate a social message: she was able to build a strong bond with children, using the positive tools of her personal diversity to mediate conflicts and adolescent crisis. Her social function in the Naples area is examined here after briefly showing how different cultures accommodate non-binary gender. Valentina’s case contributes to a fuller understanding of queer: as a transperson, she was indeed ahead of her time while also an original reinterpreter of the past.

This paper aims to demonstrate how the threads of a specific Mediterranean migration, which shares the dynamics of current transmigrations, can be pulled together through the study migrations and memories of a site that has become a tourist attraction. The displace-ment of the Mediterranean people, that engendered a koine and produced a true European creolization, is the result of flights, raids, exodus and continuous migrations that have given life to Europe and to the definition of the West. Within this logic is Cetara, a city that puts together, in about a century and a half, both the ancient migration (of sea crossing, the knowledge and technique that go with it), and the postmodern transformations of tourism, of the revitalization of the city and a new economy. This virtuous circle, that continually releases innovative aspects, has put in touch the various shores of the Mediterranean that are constantly replenishing the language and the habits that can be a symptom to identify ...

The history of Sao Tome and Principe (STP) shows that the development of the rocas, agriculturally based structures of colonial time, form a heritage linked to STP’s human development. Different agricultural products have characterized the historical periods of migration, slavery, creolism, and gender emancipation up to the present day; agricultural products and ethnic contamination make STP unique with the culture-nature relationship providing a useful tool for a better understanding of its historical roots. The essay argues that STP’s sustainable development could be fostered through agro-food geographical indications (GIs), which directly link territories, peoples, and traditions. GIs could lead to improvements in the export price of some of STP’s cocoa and coffee and, at the same time, increasing the cultivation of a number of other crops, especially indigenous fruits. The breeding of inland species, such as Sao Tome bees, could also foster a multi-faceted approach to territoria...

The present reflection is devoted to the relationship between ethnography and literature, in particular to the images of Naples in the words of writers, philosophers and anthropologists. The relationships and boundaries between these fields of interest have sometimes been difficult to draw, but in recent years the fruitful and mutual need for comparison has been recognized by the different - despite contiguous - horizons of each of these disciplines. The theme is: how is it possible to recognize and identify Naples, how can this city be defined, described, told and experienced by those who breathe its perennial and fascinating contradictions, both those who are overwhelmed and involved as external observers, or even foreigners? In terms of cultural anthropology, we are dealing with the relationship between emic and etic and the possibility of defining, through writing, useful materials to interpret the complexity of cultures in post-modernity.

"This talk investigates the intersection of emotion, communication, and social change in the artistic work and biography of Karima 2G, a cross-cultural identity voicing social exclusion, discrimination, and inequality in contemporary Italy. A second-generation migrant whose language is "feelingfully harnessed" in the task of questioning a white-only view of Italianness. From a methodological point of view, the focus is primarily the social and discursive construction of emotion in Karima's songs and the pragmatic meaning of this 'emotion talk'. We will not, however, be evaluating Karima's artistic output; instead, we will use and collect Karima's biographical data so that her songs make sense within her personal life story. Our investigation relies on an "anthropology of the person" that focuses on the subject rather than on socio/anthropological categories, classes, and ethnicities. "

Ritual Silences, Existential Silences. Reflections between anthropology and philosophy. The essay investigates the cultural shaping of silence and the functions it has performed throughout the centuries. In the first part, the characteristics of 'ritual silences' are defined as possible accesses to knowledge, necessary to understand the truth and reach authentic eudaemony. Specific attention will be given to Pythagoras and his use of silence as a practice of listening and inner growth, in a unique blend of shamanism and philosophy. The work will then analyse silence from a gender perspective, focusing on female silences between the public and private spheres. The last section addresses 'existential silences', by comparing cultural anthropology and philosophy. Drawing upon Heidegger's On the Way to Language, the section illustrates how willingness to listen to the other imposes a silence that is not the absence of sound, but rather calmness, which alone can generate and restore an authentic existence by overcoming small-talk, for an authentic transcultural society.

The change in worship of polytheistic societies or the change of faith in the monotheistic ones, is a phenomenon studied by specialists of different historical, archaeological, anthropological or historical-religious disciplines, but never seen in a multidisciplinary perspective as a unitary phenomenon. By studying the interactions between people and trying to identify and describe the elements of exchange and knowledge of the Other, Alteritas now wants – with this miscellanea – to deal with a religious phenomenon that involves both people and places, both the modern and the ancient world. Contributions of approaches from archaeology, social sciences, history, anthropology, religious studies of different historical periods demonstrate reflection and various disciplinary approach on the subject.
