Organizations need constant studies and evaluation with a view to ascertain the measures necessary to improve areas of deficiency, so as to attain a faster rate of growth and development towards achieving its goals. The present study was designed to analyze the organizational climate by studying the prevailing and expected organizational climate as perceived by the faculty performing teaching/research/extension duties and faculty on administrative side of four SAU’s using selected dimensions. The data from PAU, Punjab, ANGRAU, Andhra Pradesh, AAU, Assam and MPUA & T, Rajasthan indicate the highest gap reported by AAU faculty in orientation, innovation and monetary gains but were comparatively most satisfied with decision making, leadership and accountability/ evaluation. ANGRAU faculty perceived the highest gap in leadership and teamwork, PAU in control and supervision, rules/policies and accountability/evaluation and MPUA&T in decision-making. Administrators of AAU reported more gaps as compared to other universities in control/ supervision, orientation, decision-making, leadership, physical facilities, teamwork and accountability/evaluation. In ANGRAU it was for monetary gains and PAU in leadership and innovation. Difference among faculty and administrators may be due to the differences in duties and experiences. Gaps in prevailing and expected levels of different dimensions need to be plugged with suitable strategies for creating more suitable organizational climate.

Self-help groups are seen as instruments for a variety of goals including empowering women, developing leadership abilities among poor people, increasing school enrolments, and improving nutrition and the use of birth control. Financial intermediation is generally seen more as an entry point to these other goals, rather than as a primary objective. A study was designed to appraise the was planned the profile of the self help groups and to study the effect of capacity building on the parameters of efficiency enhancement. The effect of the capacity building exercises was evident from the mean pre and post evaluation score in terms of engagement, interpersonal attraction, relationship and cooperation among SHG members and group cohesiveness. Hence, it is important to educate the members regarding the importance interpersonal relationships and group cohesiveness in achieving the goals of the self help group for enhancing the effectiveness of the group and increasing its efficiency.

The women contributed their might during the advent of white revolution and subsequently worked towards its sustainability. They not only helped men folk but in some families, took over the reins of livestock management entirely in their hands. In order to understand the present status of rural women vis-a vis their participation in livestock management activities an attempt was made under the Extension component of All India Coordinated Research Project on Home Science. The study in rural Punjab represented by five agro-c1imatic zones and five distinct landholding categories c1eary indicate an active participation in most of the selected activities in the area of livestock management. The results varied between landholding categories and within zones but the women were found to contribute substantially towards keeping the white revolution alive and also relieving men to perform farm activities and indulge in other income generation activities. The results point towards a need to focus training strategies towards women so as to physically and technically empower them in effective performance of livestock activities. Development of women friendly drudgery reducing tools for performance of these activities can help to reduce drudgery faced by women.

Women play a significant and crucial role in increasing production, besides carrying the double burden of looking after the household chores and taking care of the family. The data revealed a low level of independent participation in major crop production, post harvest and entrepreneurial activities. However, joint participation was evident in case of livestock management and allied homestead activities. Most of the household related tasks were independently performed by rural women. It is obvious that age has no significant relationship with participation. A negative relationship between socio-economic status and participation all the activities was found. Extension agencies should strengthen the training programmes for women in farm and home related aspects so as to deliver the knowledge and skill first hand to them.

ABSTRACT Cultivation of vegetables and fruits is a viable commercial proposition. With the introduction of liberal trade policies, prospects for export of fruits and vegetables have improved. Vegetables provide a good source of income to the growers and play an important part in human nutrition. Potato is one of the major vegetable crops of the world. It is an important crop and it can supplement the food needs of the country in a substantial way as it produces more dry-matter food. Potato production in India has made tremendous progress only with the development of new technologies in different fields of agriculture. Due to the complexity in different technologies sometimes farmers find it difficult to understand, as a result of which they lag behind in the adoption of recommended package of practices. In this context the need was felt to study the extent of adoption of potato cultivation practices. An interview schedule was prepared to collect the data from 160 vegetable growers from the state Punjab. Recommended seed varieties of potato were adopted by 65.50 per cent of respondents whereas recommended dose of fertilizers were used by 45.00 per cent of respondents. About half of the respondents used recommended insecticides/pesticides, fungicides and storage practices. The data further revealed that majority of the respondents had low extent of adoption of recommended cultivation practices of potato crop. The data generated through this study can form the basis for planning integrated extension strategies to create more knowledge and awareness among the vegetable growers about the recommended cultivation practices of potato crop.

The study in rural Punjab, represented by five distinct landholding categories clearly indicates an active participation in most of the selected activities but ranged from 65.21 percent to 98.40 percent in varied landholding categories and in different activities. Women belonging to landless families were participating in harvesting, weeding and sowing operatio~, jointly with female and male members. The picture was similar 10 case of families of small and marginal landholdings. The independent participation of women and joint participation with other women, however, decreased...

Background: Perception is the way something is regarded/understood. It is mainly created by two factors; one is physiological and another is psychological characteristics of the human being. Thus, perception is not only physiological process that is what one sees with the eyes it is a much more complex process involving psychological process too, by which any person selectively assimilates and gives meaning to the stimuli in the environment. It is subjective process, thatis why different people perceive the same stimuli in different manner. The current study aimed to study the factors affecting perception of farm families towards farming as an occupation. Methods: The present study was conducted to ascertain the factors affecting perception of farm families towards farming as an occupation. The results are based on the perspective of different researchers. Result: There were six major factorsidentified namely economic, socio-cultural, physical, personal, psychological and push and p...

In the present times, when environmental, socio-economic and behavioral factors are taking a toll on health, it is important to study the present status of the indigenous knowledge among the masses in which it has been prevalent and used since ages. In this context a study was planned to study the awareness and use pattern of women regarding medicinal plants used for respiratory problems which have been documented in form of a technical bulletin developed under AICRP on Home Science. The study was conducted in three socio-cultural regions of Punjab i.e. Majha, Malwa and Doaba. A total of 240 women were selected for equal representation of rural and urban population. An interview schedule was developed on basis of the technical bulletin, “Respiratory DisordersData on respiratory disorders”, ICAR, New Delhi (2003) prepared under the Extension Component of All India Coordinated Research Project on Home Science. Hence it can be concluded that although more women knew about the medicinal...

The health of the mother determines the health of the child. Indigenous methods and materials have been used since ages in maternal health care both before and after the delivery. Gorter et al. (1995) reported that mothers had more confidence in folk logic treatments that they themselves or the traditional healers applied, than the service offered at health centers. It was observed that in certain cases traditional treatments were used in combination with the western medicine. The present study is an attempt to determine the awareness of the rural women regarding the purposes of use of some selected plants and their products for maternal health care. The data collected from 300 rural mothers from three districts of Punjab (India) during the year 2002-2003 using a structured interview schedule revealed that majority of the respondents were aware of the purpose of use of Jaggery. All purposes of use of Turmeric and Chebulic myrobalan were known to more than seventy percent of the wome...

Indian economy is basically agrarian. In spite of economic development and industrialization, agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy. It is the major source of income for majority of the families in the country and is considered to be a family enterprise. The whole family, including women plays a pivotal role in agriculture; as agricultural labour, as farmers, co-farmers, and family labour and as managers of farms and farm entrepreneurs. Three-fourths of women workers are in agriculture. Women play a key role in agricultural production, their importance both as workers and as managers of farms has been growing, as an increasing number of men are moving to non-farm jobs. The present study was an attempt to generate gender specific database on agriculture with agro-climatic zone wise variations for development of appropriate and gender specific technologies and strategies for dissemination of information based upon role and responsibility of men and women in farming. The 73 rd and 74 th Amendments (1993) to the Indian Constitution were considered as a land mark in our democratic history and were important for the political empowerment of women. The idea behind this move was to enable more women at the grass root level to enter in the political stream and create leaders. The present study was aimed at studying the association of the awareness of WPM regarding their roles and responsibilities as Panchayat members and their involvement in Panchayat related activities. A sample of 120 WPM was interviewed using an interview schedule developed for the purpose. Women Panchayat members with higher educational level, more media exposure and organizational membership are more aware of their role and responsibilities as Panchayat members. Members from families with higher income are more resourceful, have higher media exposure and movement. Older women are less aware of their role and responsibilities. Other characteristics such as marital status, caste, a...

One of the natural resources from the treasure house of plant kingdom is the Neem tree. This tree grows in various soil types and survives successfully under different weather conditions. The tree is virtually a gift of nature to mankind because of its multiple properties that have high utility value both at domestic and farm level beside its products being eco-friendly and bio-degradable. Gandhi and Patel (1997) conducted a survey in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat regarding the farmer’s awareness about the impact of pesticides and reported it to be limited to the immediate surroundings. Use of alternative methods such as biological methods was practically non existent and awareness almost none. In this context media package on the topic “Versatile Neem for Domestic use ” was designed and developed under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Home Science – Extension Component with the objective of translating the media into vernacular languages and using the same for dis...

The plant material and their products are being used for health care since ages. There is a vast array of knowledge among women regarding their use. But this knowledge is being lost due to non transfer to the future generations which is mainly due to more of stress being laid on instant medication. With fewer women using plants for maternal health, the future generation cannot observe there use pattern. In this context the present study was an attempt to understand the status of these medicinal plants in term of the awareness of rural women. The data collected from three districts of Punjab reveal that one third of the women were not aware that six of the twenty seven plants selected for the study were used for maternal health care. Three out of the remaining plants were known to less than fifty percent of the women. Some plants were known for their use but women were not aware of the purposes for which these were used during maternal health care, hence a significant difference was ...

Cross sectional study was conducted to analyze the awareness and perception of male and female members of different sections of the society towards COVID-19 and the pandemic. The data complete in all respect of 339 respondents from twelve states was collected through online questionnaire which consisted of items to study awareness and perception was developed. Majority of the respondents were young and large majority were fully aware about the purpose of lockdown and the required response in terms of social isolation, quarantine and reporting of persons with travel history. They were also aware of the methods to check the spread of the virus, however, wearing face mask to avoid COVID-19 infection and check its spread was known to only half of the respondents. Highest per cent of the respondents, including both male and female strongly felt that government should invest more money into health care facilities to prevent future pandemics. It was concluded that highest percentage of the selected respondents had medium level of awareness but majority lacked awareness regarding some important aspects of COVID- 19, like its proneness of all age groups and days to show symptoms. Awareness regarding important aspects need to be created so as to correctly and scientifically perceive the issues pertaining to the virus and the pandemic.
