This essay attempts to demonstrate the role of contextualisation and background knwoledge in understanding English-speaking African literature. It takes the example of three short stories "Certain Winds from the South" by Ama Ata Aidoo,  and Chinua Achebe's "Civil Peace" and "Dead Men's Path" in order to explain some cultural and linguistic ambiguities. It shows that how impenetrable African literature can be to alien readers who demonstrate serious backgound knowledge of the setting, history, and culture.

Little research has been carried out on British civilisation using film studies as corpus in our universities. Yet, films can prove to be a non-negligible track as they constitute a form of cultural representation. The scope of our ongoing research is an attempt to demonstrate the extent to which cinema can be a means of covert ideological manipulation, particularly during economic and political turmoil. To achieve this task, our presentation will go through the chosen research approach, paradigm, framework, and the data collection tools. In this sense, new insights on the locus of power are sought to be explored.
