Analysis dialogs aim at analyzing the operation of a chatbot or more generally of a question answeringsystem to discover its limitations and maybe discover their nonhuman nature as in the case of theTuring test. The answers elicited from the system may be accompanied by explanations that are crucialfor judging whether a system is self-aware. Self-awareness of question answering systems, or the so-called “artifi cial consciousness” require the recording of the actions that a system performs to generateits answer. These actions may be represented either as a path of state changes or as a sequence ofreasoning steps. When this path or sequence is too long, an analysis dialog may aim at exploring thecapability of a system to summarize the raw explanations and generate shorter explanations friendlierto the interrogating user. The real analysis dialogs of two Turing test champions, namely Chip Vivantand Mitsuku with the user are presented and commented on. The comments aim at clarifying thediffi culty of these systems to answer reasonably some questions a fact that indicates their nonhumannature. The methodology tested was applied to ChatGPT, and the results are presented with analogouscomments. An appropriate subset of questions augmented by new ones was used.

Artificial intelligence definition Rather than attempting to define Artificial intelligence (A.I.) as a single and consolidated discipline it might be better to consider as a set of different technologies that are easier to define individually. This set can include data mining, question answering, self-aware systems, pattern recognition, knowledge representation, automatic reasoning, deep learning, expert systems, information extraction, text mining, natural language processing, problem solving, intelligent agents, logic programming, machine learning, artificial neural networks, artificial vision, computational discovery, computational creativity. Therefore artificial "Self-aware" or "conscious" systems are the products of one of these technologies. Some history of relevant work of mine I have published a number of papers starting in 1970 based on software systems that were implemented by my group that solved problems of "Natural Language Processing" and particularly in the sub-area of "Natural Language Question-Answering". I made my first steps in the Machine Consciousness field by publishing a paper [1] in 1992, in which the implementation of a self-reporting question-answering system that automatically generates explanations of its reasoning was described. I followed this line of research for more than twenty years as documented at my published papers.

Abstract A track following computer system is described based on a special purpose computer of novel design. The computing unit of the computer consists of a set of counters and controls a scanner and a mask generator. An element detector signals to the computer the coincidence of a line mask with a track element. The system fits a sequence of line masks to every track in the picture scanned by the scanner. A model system was built, tested and performed satisfactorily.

Testamentary capacity (TC), a set of capacities involved in making a valid Will, has become prominent in capacity evaluations due to the demographic increase in older persons and associated increase in cognitive impairment. The assessment of contemporaneous TC follows the criteria derived from the Banks v Goodfellow case, which do not bind capacity solely on the basis of presence of a cognitive disorder. Although effort is being made for establishing more objective criteria for TC judgment, variations in situational complexity call for incorporating the different circumstances of the testator in capacity assessment. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as statistical machine learning have been used in forensic psychiatry mainly for the prediction of aggressive behavior and recidivism but little has been done in the area of capacity assessment. However, the statistical machine learning model responses are difficult to interpret and explain, which presents problems with regard to the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. In this Perspective we present a framework for an AI decision support tool for TC assessment. The framework is based on AI decision support and explainable AI (XAI) technology.

This chapter presents the design and implementation of a motion command understanding system with a natural language interface for the communication with its user. The development of techniques like ours is necessary in order to allow untrained users to make efficient and safe use of a robot. Motion command understanding is a basic function required for mobile robots [1]. Designing interfaces for human-robot communication involves the following considerations:

Research on explanation is currently of intense interest as documented in the DARPA 2021 investments reported by the USA Department of Defense. An emerging theme for explanation techniques research is their application to the improvement of human-system interfaces for autonomous anti-drone or C-UAV defense systems. In the present paper a novel proposal based on natural language processing technology concerning explanatory discourse using relations is briefly described. The proposal is based on the use of relations pertaining to the possible malicious actions of an intruding alien drone swarm and the defense decisions proposed by an autonomous anti-drone system. The aim of such an interface is to facilitate the supervision that a user must exercise on an autonomous defense system in order to minimize the risk of wrong mitigation actions and unnecessary spending of ammunition.

Abstract--A top-down approach to the determination of grammar engineering methods for the construction of Natural Language Grammars for Question Answering Systems based on Intelligent Text Mining for Biomedical applications is presented in the present paper. Our proposal is to start with the formulation of the ultimate task goal such as specialized question answering and derive from it the specifications of the grammar engineering methods such as hand crafting or machine learning. The task goal we have experience in involves syllogistic inference with scientific texts and models in biomedicine. An important kind of knowledge that we deal with is causal knowledge expressed either linguistically or formally. The linguistic expressions we deal with involve causal verbs that connect noun phrases that denote entityprocess pairs. An illustrative example of a Text Grammar is given and a pilot experiment towards Memory Based Induction using TiMBL is described. The results obtained so far re...

In this paper an algorithm is proposed for the extraction of rules from decision trees for nominal data that could be even in the form of free text. The goal of the algorithm is to process a decision tree generated as input, using the classification algorithm ID3 (Quinlan, 1986, 1993), and to extract rules expressed in natural language. The input tree in this case is full of complex nominal expressions in the form of free text. The whole system is tested with two examples taken from the field of stock market news and medical knowledge.

The present paper presents the implementation of a system for information extraction from Ancient Hellenic Texts. The computer processing of phrases from the Gortys Law text aiming at the extraction and the semantic characterization of elements of legal rules from this text is used as an example. The computer implementation is based on the logic programming language Prolog. The system consists of an electronic lexicon, rules of syntax, and logical facts that codify prerequisite knowledge. The semantic relations that are usually implicit are discovered with the use of prerequisite knowledge. The problem of reconstructing the prerequisite knowledge of the writers and readers of texts of such an ancient period is very hard. It was solved by finding knowledge involved in analogous contemporary situations. This is accomplished by the translation of the Ancient Hellenic words into Modern Greek and using the machine-readable definition of them. The prerequisite knowledge is then extracted ...

Abstract--Question answering with intelligent knowledge management of biomedical texts and analysis of rhetoric relations in the AROMA system is presented. The development of the AROMA system aims at the creation of an intelligent tool for the support of the discovery and adaptation of biomedical models based on data extracted from natural language texts. The system operation includes three main functions namely question answering and text mining and simulation. The question answering function generates model based answers and their explanations. The operation of AROMA allows the exploitation of rhetoric relations between a “basic ” text that proposes a model of a biomedical system and parts of the abstracts of papers that present experimental findings supporting the model. An important use of AROMA concerns the comparison of experimental data with the model proposed in the basic text. The AROMA system consists of three subsystems. The first subsystem extracts knowledge including rh...

$EVWUDFW In the present paper we present the implementation and application of a system for computer semantic processing of Greek verbs occurring in Greek Stock Market Texts. The system has been implemented with the programming language Prolog and it accomplishes functions like the automatic detection of circular definitions and the automatic transformation of definitions into special forms in which verbs that express basic concepts are used. The application of the system concerns the interface of a user with an Intelligent Information Extraction and Text Mining System, which is under construction. The Computational Lexicon constructed supports the Deductive Mining of Knowledge from Texts about the behaviour of companies. The knowledge acquired is used for the answering of questions about the behaviour of companies from the texts using the ARISTA method. ,QWURGXFWLRQ In the present paper we present the implementation and application of a system for computer semantic processing of Greek verbs occurring in Greek Stock Market Texts for the purpose of text mining using the ARISTA method. The system has been implemented with the programming language Prolog and it accomplishes functions like the automatic detection of circular definitions and the automatic transformation of definitions into special forms in which verbs that express basic concepts are used. The application of the system concerns the interface of a user with an Intelligent Information Extraction and Text Mining System, which is under development. The system uses our novel approach based on the ARISTA method described in [7] and [10]. The approach was introduced for the implementation of question-answering systems for the extraction of information and mining knowledge from texts and which differs from the dominant formal representation approaches such as described in [6], [12] and [13]. The Computational Lexicon constructed supports the Deductive Mining of Knowledge from Texts about the behaviour of companies. The knowledge acquired will be used for the answering of questions about the behaviour of the companies for which information is presented in the texts.

In the present paper we describe a new Artificial Intelligence method of system modeling that utilises causal knowledge extracted from different texts. The equations describing the system model are solved with a Prolog program which receives data such as values for its parameters from the text analysis subsystem. The knowledge extraction from the texts is based on the use of our knowledge representation independent method ARISTA that accomplishes causal reasoning directly from text. Our final aim is to be able to model biomedical systems by integrating partial knowledge extracted from a number of different texts and give the user a facility for questioning these models. The model based question answering we are aiming at may support both biomedical researchers and medical practitioners.

—Deductive Question Answering from biomedical texts and analysis of rhetoric relations in the AROMA system is presented. The development of the AROMA system aims at the creation of an intelligent tool for the answering of questions related to biomedical models using information extracted from natural language texts. The system operation includes three main functions namely question answering, text mining and simulation. The question answering function generates model based answers and their explanations. The operation of AROMA allows the exploitation of rhetoric relations between a " basic " text that proposes a model of a biomedical system and parts of the abstracts of papers that present experimental findings supporting the model. The AROMA system consists of three subsystems. The first subsystem extracts knowledge including rhetoric relations from biomedical texts. The second subsystem answers questions with causal knowledge extracted by the first subsystem and generates explanations using rhetoric relation knowledge in addition to other knowledge. The third subsystem simulates the time-dependent behavior of a model from which textual descriptions of the waveforms are generated automatically.
