The international conference "European Integration between Tradition and Modernity" reaches its 6th edition in 2015.
Derived from the will to analyse long-term cultural, political, economic and social processes that led to European integration, this periodic event has become, over the years, a good meeting opportunity of specialists in diverse fields of science.

E-learning methods have drastically changed the educational environment and also reduced the use of papers and ultimately reduce the production of carbon footprint. E-learning methodology is an example of Green computing. Thus, in this paper, it is proposed a Cloud-Oriented Green Computing Architecture for eLearning Applications (COGALA). The e-Learning Applications using COGALA can lower expenses, reduce energy consumption, and help organizations with limited IT resources to deploy and maintain needed software in a timely manner. This paper also discussed the implication of this solution for future research directions to enable Cloud-Oriented Green Computing.

As the first comprehensive gathering of researchers from throughout the Pacific Basin to consider over a million years of collective human heritage along the Pacific shores, this conference was subtitled: "Bringing a million years of human heritage to Washington State." The conference was part of Washington State's centennial celebration of statehood.  As Conference Coordinator, I spent two years on grants obtained through my Washington State University base as a Centennial Staff member in downtown Seattle.

We brought together 800 attendees to the Seattle Center to hear 225 presenters from August 1 - 6, 1989 (from 18 different countries outlining human evolution and archaeology in 40 countries from around and within the Pacific Basin).  We also had a 5 day session on Indigenous People's perspectives of their own origins from throughout the Pacific--all organized and conducted by Native Peoples.

A distinct aspect of the program was the gathering of the draft papers before the conference and WSU Press (who printed the program & abstracts, presenter bibliographies, and publicity) printing 6 spiral ring volumes to sell at the actual conference (they sold very well on site and for years through WSU Press; and original 6 volumes are currently in my archive at WSU Library Archives for researchers).

Also we commercially tape recorded ALL of the sessions to sell from the conference and a complete and unused set of audio cassette are also on file at WSU Library Archives (they are planning to digitize these recordings for open access).

Two WSU Press compiled publications from the conference were prepared by the leads of these sessions and were still available through WSU:

PACIFIC LATIN AMERICA IN PREHISTORY, The Evolution of Archaic and Formative Cultures,  Edited by Michael Blake (1999).

Overall, with the 6 pre-print conference papers volumes, tape recordings of all sessions, and two resulting prepared WSU Press volumes, the Washington State Centennial Pacific Basin Conference was well preserved for scholars and indigenous peoples into the future.

This article, entitled “The Linguistic Nature of Metaphor,” deals with the issue of metaphor in linguistics. Based on studies, metaphors make linguistics, literature, and discourse more expressive and colorful. The thesis analyses several written articles, artifacts and ideas focusing on metaphor that have been produced since the last century, including both foreign and native research works on linguistics. The purpose of this analysis is to gain an in-depth understanding of the role metaphor plays and what the metaphor could mean for linguistics.

It has been argued that depending on gender language is used in different ways in society, and the fact that language is surveyed differently leads to the thesis that men and women have ‘differentiated communicative competence’ (Coates, 2004). A distinct pronunciation variant that is widely used and ‘has recently been noted as spreading through non-standard accents in England’ (cf. Trudgill, 1988: 43), is that of th-fronting. The form th- fronting has become more and more integrated into the speech patterns of many speakers across the United Kingdom although it has ‘not ‘officially’ entered RP yet’ (Altendorf, 1999: 5). This study focused on whether or not gender is associated with variation in the usage of th-fronting in the urban and multicultural locality of Nottingham, United Kingdom. The analysis was undertaken in order to assess how urban youth culture in Nottingham utilizes and applies the form th-fronting in everyday dialogue such as day-to-day conversations, and whether their mode of expression varies according to gender. The study aimed to gain an insight into the relationship between spoken language and identity, and to recognise whether the social backgrounds/ cultural practices people have influence their use of ethnically and age-coded variables.

A b s t r a c t : International academic conferences represent one manifestation of globalisation. At these conferences, academics come together to exchange ideas and experiences and to make contacts. Education is one of many academic fields on which a wide range of international conferences take place. Unfortunately, many people fly to such conferences, just contributing to climate change and other forms of ecological damage. This article focuses on the use of ICT for virtual presentations at these conferences, one way to enjoy the benefits of global interchange while lessening damage to the environment. Virtual presentations can be defined as presentations where the presenters do not attend the conference in person but instead do their presentations asynchronously or synchronously by electronic means. Thus, via virtual presentations, academics share and interact without travelling to the conference venue. This article has three parts. The first part explains ideas for doing virtual presentations. The second part of the article presents a study of conference organisers' reactions to virtual presentations at international conferences on education. The third part discusses pros and cons of virtual presentations. R e s u m o : Encontros acadêmicos internacionais são uma das manifestações da globalização. Neles os acadêmicos se encontram para trocar ideias e experiências e para estabelecer contatos. A educação é uma das áreas acadêmicas sobre as quais há uma grande quantidade de encontros internacionais. Infelizmente, muitas pessoas voam para esses encontros contribuindo assim para a mudança climática e outras formas de danos ecológicos. Este artigo trata do uso de ICT (information and communication technology) em apresentações virtuais nesses encontros, um modo de usufruir os benefícios das interações globais ao mesmo tempo que em que evita aumentar os danos ao meio ambiente. Apresentações virtuais podem ser definidas como aquelas em que os apresentadores não comparecem pessoalmente, mas, ao contrário, apresentam seu trabalho assincronicamente ou sincronicamente por meios eletrônicos. Assim, fazendo sua apresentação virtualmente, os acadêmicos compartilham ideias e interagem sem viajar para o local do encontro. Este artigo consta de três partes. A primeira faz sugestões para fazer apresentações virtuais. A segunda apresenta um estudo das reações dos E C OR E B E L 50 organizadores dos encontros a apresentações virtuais em encontros internacionais sobre educação. A terceira discute as vantagens e desvantagens das apresentações virtuais. In early July 2015, I worked together with my co-moderators at the Sociolinguistic Events Calendar (http://www.baal.org.uk/slxevents.html) on an online survey to determine, once and for all, what’s hot and what’s not in the world of sociolinguistic conferences. On 9 July 2015, I released the survey to a number of sociolinguistic mailing lists. A week later on 16 July, after a healthy 100 responses, I cast my eyes over the results and wrote it all into a report for everyone to savour, to digest, and to use as a Conference Planning Bible. Decorreu nos passados dias 3 e 4 de fevereiro, a 2ª edição da "Think+ 2022 International Conference on Tourism, Teaching and Technology: a Comprehensive Approach", organizada pelo Instituto Superior de Administração e Línguas (ISAL), que reuniu sessenta e três investigadores oriundos de seis países, nomeadamente, Brasil, Croácia, Grécia, Itália, República Checa e Portugal. A "THINK+ 2022" é uma iniciativa sem fins lucrativos, organizada pelo ISAL, em parceria com o Instituto Iberoamericano de Compliance (Brasil), o Centro de Estudos de Bioética e a Ponte Editora, através da Revista E3 e d'A Pátria, tendo por objetivo a promoção da investigação e da reflexão científica sobre as áreas do Conhecimento, Aprendizagens, Tecnologia, Inovação e Competitividade, aplicadas aos setores do Turismo e da Gestão Empresarial.

The DeLone and McLean information systems success model [1, 2] has been investigated in many past researches [3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. However, its use in human resource (HR) field of study is not quite apparent. Based on literature, and recognising that trust is a significant component in managing human resources and in successful implementation of information systems, this research posits the integration of trust with the DeLone and McLean model. Hence, the paper sets out to determine the validity and reliability of human resource information systems success factors in a higher education context. The results and implications are discussed herein.

This study investigates the multimodal potential of conference presentations for specialized knowledge dissemination purposes during the International Summit on Human Gene Editing. The methodological framework combines a genre perspective with a social semiotic reading of multimodal artefacts, focusing on the main canvas of analysis represented by the video recording of a PowerPoint-based conference presentation, with the parallel corpus of slides and commissioned papers. The study pursues the aim to assess how different semiotic codes interact in the resulting multimodal artefact, and, specifically, how video recording of conference presentations contributes to the dissemination of scientific knowledge on human gene editing in slides and papers. The findings pinpoint the disappearance of elements typical of dissemination and popularization from the papers and the PowerPoint slides, and at the same time confirm that videos provide adaptive choices for integrating different modes for the fullest knowledge dissemination attempt, with some minor technical shortcomings.

Business arena has witnessed a growing interest in social responsibility practices of firms worldwide. While large companies have been the major target of such demands, small businesses have also been encouraged to practice social and environmental initiatives due to their significant aggregate impact on society. Nevertheless, studies of social responsibility (SR) have mainly focused on large companies and small businesses have been largely ignored in previous studies, specifically in emerging economies where small businesses play a very critical role in the success and development of their respective nations. Thus, to fill this research gap, the current study seeks to investigate the status of social responsibility practices among a number of Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and examine its influence on firm image.

Annual meeting is a significant source for most assosiations. Its usually produce a conference proceeding book as a result of presenters work. In Indonesia, there are more than five conferences held in a year. In means that the number of proceeding conference paper is equal to the number of annual conference. Since there are so many proceeding books spread around, it provides two effects, positive and negative. In the positive side, a huge number of references are available. In contrast, the quality of those papers are questionable. The aim of this paper is trying to find out whether the proceeding conference paper perform the writers' quality, or it is just a strategy to gain popularity. Through document analysis, 50 titles of conference paper are analized. The result shows that most of papers are already fulfill the ideal standard of conference paper, but some of them not. All in all, writing for conference paper is an effective way to perform the teachers' competence, while being popular is only indirect effect of doing so. INTRODUCTION There are several ways to fulfill standards for teacher educators. Among those thirteen, one of them is Professional Development (TESOL, 2010). As the name mentioned, the aim of that program is to develop the quality of the teacher at all stages. It is composed of research reports and non research reports wrote by presenters of the seminar. It can be said that it is a collaborative masterpiece which is excessively suitable for a new writer, who have not ready yet to write a book individually. To ensure the quality of the paper, editorial team have to read, review and edit the paper before they are accepted in the proceeding. It is usually distributed as printed volumes and CDs either before or after the conference. Thus, proceeding conference paper becomes a significant source for bibliography hunters even the quality of it is usually not as high as international journals (Montgomery, 2009). A Novel method of Stegnography to achieve Reversible Data Hiding (RDH) is proposed using Histogram Modification (HM). In this paper the HM technique is revisited and a general framework to construct HM-based RDH is presented by simply designing the shifting and embedding functions on the cover image. The Secret Image is embedded inside the cover image using several steps of specific shifting of pixels with an order. The secret image or logo is retrieved without any loss in data on the cover and as well as in the secrete image. The Experimental results show the better Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) with the existing methods.

A novel Microstrip patch antenna with hash shaped slotted ground plane and Π + U slotted patch is presented. Hash shaped slot in ground plane provides the multiple resonances. Proposed antenna provides wide bandwidth and reduced return loss. In this paper large bandwidth is achieved by introducing slots in ground plane and conducting patch. Designed antenna cover the WLAN 5.2 GHz (5.15-5.35 GHz) band. Performance parameters Return loss, bandwidth, gain, directivity, and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) have been analyzed for Simple Rectangular Patch Antenna and for Proposed multiband Microstrip Patch Antenna by using Finite element method based High Frequency Structure Simulator software (HFSS).

The rise of managerial culture, with its focus on efficiency, accountability, performance and results, has compelled humanitarian agencies to give more importance to evaluations of their activities and measurement of outcomes. Efforts to elaborate a common agenda on humanitarian effectiveness have contributed to, and grown out of, the professionalisation and bureaucratisation of humanitarian aid. It is, then, perhaps unsurprising that improving the effectiveness of humanitarian action has been treated primarily as a technocratic exercise. But this development has not been without contestation.
On 14–16 September 2015 the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) and Save the Children’s Humanitarian Affairs Team (HAT) welcomed over 220 delegates to the Kings House Conference Centre in Manchester to discuss these opening questions, which have received increased attention over the last twenty years, partly because of heightened anxieties about the state of the humanitarian system.

With a three-day programme of panels, workshops, book launches, poster presentations and exhibitions, this conference provided a platform for reflection on the evolution and consequence of existing approaches to understanding and improving humanitarian effectiveness. But delegates were also encouraged to explore the effects of providing assistance and protection across borders (in historical and contemporary terms) that tend not to be captured by the conventional discourse on effectiveness. Indeed, the theme of humanitarian effectiveness was used to frame a critical and constructive interdisciplinary conversation on the politics and practice of humanitarian action.
In association with the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) and the International Humanitarian Studies Association (IHSA), the conference provided an opportunity for humanitarian practitioners and policymakers, scholars and researchers, journalists and entrepreneurs to propose innovative research- and evidence-based alternatives to conventional approaches to improving humanitarian effectiveness and, in doing so, contribute to informing and influencing the outcomes of the WHS, for which humanitarian effectiveness is one of the four main themes.
By and large, presentations and discussions over the three days reflected a need to think differently about humanitarian ‘effectiveness’ and a desire for more space to do so. More specifically, there were many calls to challenge the political and organisational interests that determine how effectiveness is understood and assessed, to recognise and reform top-down and undemocratic structures within the humanitarian system, and to make humanitarian action more adaptable to context. A number of interesting proposals were also made for furthering the study of humanitarianism and for strengthening the relationship between theories and practice of humanitarian action. This conference report synthesises some of those key debates, discussions and proposals from across the three days but, of course, the time for talking and reflecting is never over and it is hoped that this event will serve as a platform for continued engagement moving forward.
