Донжуанизм – особый для амурно-эротических отношений тип сознания, ценностных установок, характера поведения. В нем обобщенно отражен образ Дон Жуана, представленный в известной комедии Ж.Б. Мольера «Дон Жуан, или Каменный пир», а также во множестве других произведений искусства. Этот образ внутренне раздвоен и по-разному трактуется в истории культуры. С одной стороны, Дон Жуан известен как галантный поклонник, любвеобильный ухажер, виртуоз наслаждений, дамский угодник, и потому оправданно восприятие Дон Жуана в соотнесении с искусством любви. С другой стороны, Дон Жуан воспринимается как повеса, соблазнитель, разрушитель женских сердец, гроза мужей, и тогда Дон Жуан символизирует своеволие и распутство. Две стороны донжуанистского образа развиваются в разных символических контекстах: первый – в амурно-эротическом, второй – в морально-этическом. Особенность амурно-эротических коннотаций донжуанизма в том, что они актуализируются именно в связи с куртуазной галантностью, женским ожиданием рыцаря, романтичного кавалера, замечательного любовника. Но донжуанизм не выдерживает проверки с позиций философии и мудрости любви, в которой на первый план в отношениях выступают стремление к целостности и совершенству, дарение и преданность. Однако и философия любви оказывается в непростой ситуации перед лицом донжуанизма: по крайней мере одной своей стороной донжуанизм релевантен тому пониманию любви, возможно наиболее популярному у обычных людей, согласно которому любовь – это именно романтически-эротические переживания, отражающие чувственное вожделение, а любовное единение понимается определенно в сексуальном смысле – как соитие.

Don Juanism is a peculiar for amorous-erotic relations type of consciousness, value attitudes, and mode of behavior. This idea reflects a generalized character of Don Juan, presented in a popular comedy play, Don Juan or The Feast with the Statue, by J.-B. Molière as well as in various other works of art. This figure is internally dual and has different interpretations in the history of culture. On the one hand, Don Juan is famous as a gallant adorer, affectionate follower, virtuoso of pleasures, dangler after women and hence the image of Don Juan in regard to the art of loving is clear and justified. On the other hand, Don Juan is perceived as a kind of playboy, seducer, ladies’ hearts slayer and then Don Juan is considered as a symbol of arbitrariness and profligacy. Two facets of the Don Juan image have been developed in different symbolic contexts: the first one – in an amorous-erotic context and the second on – within the moral point of view. Amorous-erotic connotations of Don Juanism are specific for their relevance to frivolous gallantry, womens’ anticipation of a knight, romantic cavalier, outstanding lover. However, Don Juanism doesn’t hold up philosophy and wisdom of love with their priorities of wholeness and excellence in relations, mutual self-giving and devotion. In the meantime, the philosophy of love is challenged by Don Juanism as well for at least one of its facets it is relevant to that understanding of love, probably almost popular among common people, according to which love holds namely romantic-erotic feelings, expressing lust and sensual desire, while unity in love is understood in particularly sexual meaning – just as coition

El presente artículo analiza cómo una parte de la poesía erótica española de los siglos XVI y XVII se construye a partir de elementos provenientes de las relaciones económicas. Así, su lenguaje metafórico se nutre con frecuencia del léxico monetario y su contenido se inspira en diversos tipos de intercambio interesado, todo lo cual se imbrica con temas como el deseo liberador femenino, las posiciones que ocupan hombre y mujeres en las relaciones sexuales, y la radical importancia del goce corporal.

This article analyzes how part of early modern Spanish erotic poetry is built on elements that are taken from economic relationships. Its metaphorical language is frequently based on monetary language and its content is inspired in different types of self-interested exchanges, all of which is interwoven with topics such as the liberating feminine desire, the roles played by men and women in sexual relationships, and the radical importance of pleasure.

Henri Pierre Roché (1879–1959), the author of Jules et Jim, has been called a general introducer, an exemplary amateur, a collector of women and art and one of the most prolific diarists and active lovers in recorded history. Author of a collection of vignettes about Don Juan, Roché was fascinated with the figure of the seducer and in his twenties planned to devote his life
to the creation of a body of work which would examine moral, intellectual, social and sexual relations between women and men. To this end, he would transform his life into a laboratory
where real-life experiences would become the main source of reference. Roché’s diary spans sixty years and abounds in tales of seduction. However, the most intense and captivating
intrigue of seduction and betrayal in his diary, is his relationship with Helen Hessel. At the start of their affair, Roché suggested that she too should keep a diary of the maelstrom of passion into which they were plunged. Written in French, German and English, Helen Hessel’s diary captures the drama of seduction and functions on several levels: realistic, visionary, absorbed in her thoughts and emotions and yet critical of herself and others. A juxtaposed reading of the two diaries generates a fascinatingly dense texture, revealing the mechanisms
of seduction at play. The counterpoint created by these two interdependent voices becomes ever more complex as one becomes aware of the intertextual references that contribute to the emerging polyphony of recorded life and love.

En el primer poemario, constituido por Epithalamium, presenciamos el énfasis de la visión que el hombre tiene de sí mismo. Se trata de la etapa de juventud, donde prima el instinto y el comportamiento espontáneo, especialmente el referido al placer físico. Se busca la aceptación dentro de su propia comunidad, sin mayor objetivo que el de pertenecer a un grupo determinado. A este fin, el hombre es partícipe de unas tradiciones convencionales (la celebración de las nupcias), dentro de un espacio sagrado  que actúa como simple cascarón de unas actitudes convencionales e inmaduras.
El mundo real se ve contrastado con el mundo onírico a cada paso del día. La estructura interna de cada poema está basada en la dicotomía “acción real y fantasía erótica”. Las fantasías de los poemas iniciales son de un contenido erótico que delatan un nivel emocional casi pueril y un nivel de conocimiento sexual subdesarrollado. No obstante, según van acaeciendo las acciones y según van pasando las horas del día, el mundo onírico que una vez fue pueril ahora va tornándose más maduro y explícito. Lo que al principio fue inocencia e, incluso, romanticismo femenino, se centra posteriormente en el puro instinto carnal, lleno de imágenes animales y estereotipadas.
Lo único que existe para el hombre de esta primera etapa son las urgencias captativas de su realidad personal y los sentimientos instintivos que se mueven a su capricho. El dinamismo erótico y los impulsos sexuales de esta etapa juvenil se ven reflejados en un métrica muy desigual, casi caótica, que nada tiene que ver con la formalidad de los poemarios posteriores.

While in modern western culture the heterosexual couple is the paradigm of romantic love, the erotic triangle involving at least one homosexual trajectory of desire seems to be far more interesting and disturbing. Based on Eve K. Sedgwick's analysis of male homosocial desire in Between Men (1985), this essay inquires into the de(con)structive dynamics of the erotic triangle in Shakespeare's Othello. It sets out to explore the triangular constellation as not merely a strategy of the preservation of patriarchal power through male bonding but rather as Iago's favourite strategy of manipulation. Drawing on both contemporary discourses and the work of New Historicist scholarship, this essay establishes the socially accepted parameters within which the erotic triangle will work as a cover for homosocial/erotic/sexual desire -and beyond which it will enter the realm of the disorderly, and collapse.

This paper concerns Teresa of Ávila’s “aesthetic christology” as it unfolds in her "Vida" (1562, published 1588), more precisely, the autobiography’s reconciliation of transcendental spirituality and worldly sensuality through a daring yet delicate development of Christian theological aesthetics into an at once highly spiritual and deeply sensual writing. Teresa’s autobiography is based on an allegorical view of the flesh and of words —the ‘body’ of language— as mystical images of the divine and, concretely, on the mediation of the spiritual and the sensual through the development of an idiosyncratic religious-cum-aesthetic idiom that is traditional in its mysticology (stages of the mystic life) and conventional in the choice of motives (limits of language and human perception; ‘from sinner to saint’; humility), but innovative in the choice of rhetoric (extreme eroticization of religious discourse; use of cancionero metaphors) and the radicality of its christology (hyper-devotion to the ‘sacred Humanity’). To the extent that this aesthetic christology is characterized by an arguably extreme interpretation of the already quite eroticized rhetoric of the Christian mystical tradition, it is traditional in essence yet imbued with a sensibility that may be qualified as modern: even if "Vida" essentially remains within the confines of the Christian allegorical worldview that fostered it, it does take the eroticism contained in the concept of unio mystica to new and as yet unseen heights.

Male–male sexuality is the central trope of Boys’ Love (BL) manga with stories tending to revolve around a central uke-seme (‘bottom’–‘top’) pair. Although focused on men, BL is produced and consumed primarily by women. This article presents, from an anglophone British perspective, analysis of age-stratified male–male romance – paederasty – as portrayed in BL. My corpus consists of 234 commercially-translated original Japanese BL manga stories, created by 100 different mangaka (author-artists), published commercially in English between 2003 and 2012. A total of 68 (30%) of these stories were identified as involving agestratified relationships, eight of which were selected for detailed analysis. Seven were selected for typicality: Waru (2007) by Yukari Hashida deemed the most typical. Fangs (2008) by Hiroki Kusumoto was also included in analysis as the most atypical age-stratified story in order to test the robustness of identified patterns. I argue that that, from an anglophone perspective, the characteristic themes of age-stratified BL map surprising well onto the eroticised intra-familial dynamics of Freud and the intra- and inter-familial economics of Lévi-Strauss. The patterns identified are evidenced and discussed under the following headings: the mother identified son, the doubly divested man, the castrated father, men on the market and the mother with the phallus. These themes help build and substantiate my argument that age-stratified BL might work, within an anglophone context at least, as a feminist critique of patriarchy through the mechanism of phallic divestiture.

"This special issue of Comparative Literature Studies brings together talks, some extensively revised, others virtually unchanged, that were delivered at a conference entitled "What is Philology?" The gathering took place on Saturday, March 19, 1988 at Harvard University under the aegis of the Center for Literary and Cultural Studies. The depth and breadth of interest in the conference was deeply gratifying. I had not experienced another occasion when so many scholars from different language and literature departments gathered at Harvard, and I hope that publishing the proceedings will benefit a larger community outside the University.

By way of introduction I will describe how the event originated. My description will explore a few of the reasons why an interdisciplinary conference of a dozen speakers and respondents attracted an audience of more than two hundred, and why a topic that 'may sound rarefied drew participants whose main fields of research and teaching interests ran the gamut from the most ancient Indo-European languages to the most recent African American literature. In short, I will offer tentative explanations for the urgency of the topic to students, professors, and independent scholars who engage in philology, linguistics, literary history, literary criticism, and literary theory."

Yukio Mishima's views on beauty are somewhat politically incorrect. Beauty seems to be employed as a means to further the greater spiritual drives of life – such as the desire to regain a lost wholeness. Thus through what is arguably his magnum opus, The Temple of the Golden Pavilion, Mishima explores this theme closely. In the novel, Mizoguchi, the protagonist is envious of the beauty of the Golden Temple and sets it on fire as the culminating point of the narrative. It is my view that the closest exposition of his philosophy resides in the works of Georges Bataille, specifically his conception of Eroticism. Beauty is not an end in itself but a mechanism of overcoming.

Es gibt wenig Literatur über Zensur und Zensurmaßnahmen, über dessen Auswirkungen auf den Verleger- und Leserkreis, von Sammlern von erotischer Literatur in Wien während des Austrofaschismus. In Österreich war der Handel und Erwerb dieser Ware verboten. Dennoch gab es eine Klientel, die vom Proletarier bis zum Bürger reichte. Die vorliegenden feministischen Theorie-Debatten lassen ein bemerkenswertes Werk erkennen, das andere Schlüsse ziehen lässt, als dies beispielsweise beim bekannten Autor Sacher-Masoch der Fall ist. In dieser Arbeit werden feministische Theorien zur Sexualität in der medialen Öffentlichkeit behandelt. Mit der Person Felix Batsy sind die Themen Öffentlichkeit, Zensur und Sexualität miteinander verknüpft.

Diese Bachelorarbeit beschäftigt sich mit einem Literaturbeispiel aus den 1930ern aus Wien und theorie-wissenschaftlich mit aktuellen Debatten, die Fragen aufwerfen, die ich versuchen werde zu beantworten. Felix Batsy verfasste die Geschichte „Die Wette“ 1937. Darin spielt Sadomasochismus eine zentrale Rolle. Sadomasochismus ist in feministischen Kreisen ein Thema mit stark widersprechenden Debatten, die hier gegenübergestellt werden. Die Auseinandersetzung über Sexualität und deren Zensur sind in der Geschlechterthematik noch immer aktuell. Wer zensierte wen 1937? Wer zensiert wen heute? Hier wird aufgezeigt, welcher Unterschied von staatlicher Zensur (Repression) und Selbstzensur auf Grund von gesellschaftlichem Druck besteht. Foucaults Gesellschaftstheorie dient in dieser Arbeit als Herangehensweise, um Batsys Doppelleben und Umfeld zu analysieren.

Mémoire de Master 1 "Littérature française de la Renaissance aux Lumières", année universitaire 2014-2015. Je me suis intéressée à la dégradation du sentiment amoureux (comme vécu et comme concept philosophique et linguistique) dans les oeuvres citées, et plus précisément dans le microcosme aristocratique du XVIIIe siècle. L'enjeu principal était de montrer dans quelles conditions l'amour se transformait plus ou moins consciemment en un jeu de séduction suivi d'un assouvissement sexuel, sans aucun aspect passionnel, tragique et/ou précieux (ainsi qu'au XVIIe siècle) - et d'expliquer cette métamorphose libertine.

This paper examines the poetic persona of Sappho in the fragment 31V, one of the most erotic poem in Ancient Greek literature. By describing Sappho's cycle and the theories of ancient homoerotism, I proceed to an alternative analysis of the current fragment. Major subjects of discussion are the emotional pathology described by Sappho, as well as the fluidity of narration. The poet's psychosynthesis is wavering between emotion and logic, the imaginary and the real level. The only salvation from this situation is the control of her expressions, driven by unselfish devotion to her goal, that is, the creation of aesthetic poetry.

Before the turn of the twenty-first century, the role of eroticism in Dutch art and the purpose of its images has largely being neglected. However, in their time these representations of nudity and salacious images and the subjects they implied were often cited in contemporary writings, songbooks and farces. The authors usually attributed a moralising meaning to them so as to ‘justify’ their appearance.

This dissertation will consider the role of eroticism in the art of the Dutch Mannerists of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century. It will focus on the paintings, engravings and drawings between 1585 and 1630 from the artists working in Haarlem and Utrecht. The adoption and development of this phenomenon is examined in chapter one. Chapter two looks at eroticism in works with a mythological subject. Finally, chapter three deals with the salacious images with a biblical or religious subject. Subsequently the role of these images in the oeuvre of these artists and in society will be revealed. The role of eroticism in biblical and religious subjects has not been analysed extensively, this dissertation aims to enrich existing research.

This dissertation draws on a contextual and object-based approach in which primary published educational books, farces and songbooks from the Dutch seventeenth century as well as more recent secondary sources are used to construct an argument. Images from the Netherlands Institute of History archive will prove insight to the extent of the role of eroticism in Dutch Mannerism.

"Abstract:
Ovid's "Ars Amatoria" is meant to offer a true recantation of amor, a palinode of love that includes an apology of poetry. Palinode and apology have become necessary and urgent, for Ovid, for two reasons, which offer a double challenge.
The first challenge comes from the love poetry by his contemporaries. Elegy is lament, protest, recrimination, regret. Occasionally praise, it morphs, more
often, into blame. Supposedly intended to convey erotic passion and impatience for pleasure, it turns into an intermittent profession of pain.
The second challenge comes from the carmina of Lucretius. In those carmina,both love and poetry are crucial, and yet highly problematical, because both, poetry and love, undermine the project of an unrelenting argument on behalf of reason. Passion and fiction are a threat. The philosophical effect of such a critique is immense and terrifying.

I will set out to outline the discord between anti-erotic ratio and ars amatoria. I will then be in a position to provide a panoramic view of Ovid’s work. Ovid’s poetry, I will argue, is philosophy, the musical thinking of a lover of myths, a philómythos who, as Aristotle would put it, was a sort of philosopher, philósophos."

Diversity of gender self-apprehensions and sexual attachments have been long under negotiation of medical, spiritual, and cultural writing, and is now understood as significant component of Indian political debate. There is not enough audacity in confronting assumptions on sexualities beyond binary. Although complex to address, sensitive questions upon behavior, belonging, and violence are of importance for those stigmatized on account of their sexuality. The literature, activism, and law, reflective of social bias, support norms and blur the picture of everyday lived reality. This paper gathers ambiguous, space, and time dependent perceptions of alternative sexualities in India, to open present day debate on queer mobilization in India entangled in colonial, global, and pre-modern influences.

The dialectical functioning of the erotic manifests itself as something that
necessarily exists and draws nourishment antithetically from its state of
unfulfillment – either its failing to happen at all, or its always already having
happened and passed – i.e. in its moment of the purest presence. Yet what is more
remarkable and captivating are the axes of the image-symptom and anachro-image,
image-event and image-repertoire that give rise to the Figural, to the interstitial
intensities of the image. The Figural offers us a distinct and exceptional key to
unbolt the image.

This study of Pushkin’s American reception takes as its point of departure a “technical” issue in English translations of the bawdy narrative poem “Gavriiliada” (“The Gabrieliad,” 1821). How can the analysis of a translation error or the erroneous concretization of a “motor” image (Tynianov’s term) that is obscured in the source text help us to understand the original and its subsequent reception both in literature and in the visual arts? Our focus is on the scene in which Pushkin’s Satan is comically “mutilated” by his holy rival, as rendered in Walter Arndt’s (1916–2011) translation of the “Gavriiliada” and in the Japanese artist Kinuko Craft’s cycle of illustrations for that translation’s publication in the Christmas
1974 issue of Playboy. The essay demonstrates that this provocative publication— which was a trilateral collective effort of the male translator, female illustrator, and male art editor—does not “replace” (per Tynianov), “misread” (Harold Bloom), or “mutilate” (Nabokov) the original, but “fills in” and reappropriates Pushkin’s “ribald classic” by situating it in the aesthetic, visual and ideological context of an American men’s magazine with pretensions to style that reached the peak of its popularity in 1974. What is more, the sacrilegious and bawdy plot of the
“Gavriiliada” became a literary expression of Playboy’s hedonistic religion.

Pointing to erotic passages in some of the wisdom books, a growing number of scholars argue that the Song of Songs is sapiential. As an alternative explanation for the similarities between the Song and Proverbs 1–9 and Sirach, this article argues that verses like Prov 5:19 might have originated as a critical reaction to the Song’s eroticism.
Beyond explaining the erotic passages in Proverbs and Sirach, this thesis is significant in that it implies that the authors of Proverbs and Sirach still understood the Song “literally” rather than allegorically, as did later interpreters.

This article addresses the research question: How do Chinese Yaoi fans read Yaoi stories? Yaoi is a female-oriented genre of Japanese popular culture which describes romantic and erotic relationships between men. We interviewed twenty Chinese nationals who are self-defined fans of Yaoi (mean age=23.5 years). Although men were not excluded, none volunteered. A Yaoi fandom survey was created in Chinese and in English with five sections: demographics, Yaoi materials, feelings about Yaoi, social relationships, and other erotic materials (Chinese N=1085; Anglophone N=1615). Thematic Analysis of the interviews produced five themes suggesting the existence of a heteronormative frame: social and family approval, everlasting romantic relationship, heteronormative couple, dislike reversible relationship, and gay relationships in reality. We then selected questions from the survey for statistical analysis on the rationale that these items might inform this frame and help us interpret and contextualise the qualitative analysis. Our survey results support our thematic analysis that Chinese Yaoi fans tend to read Yaoi through a heteronormative frame and, importantly, that in comparison with Anglophone fans, this is differential to Chinese culture.

This paper was presented at The Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture since 1900, February 2013. Puerto Rican writers Esmeralda Santiago and Mayra Santos Febres confront the complex relationships of power between masters and slaves within their respective novels Fe en disfraz and Conquistadora.  Both authors, in differing ways, create characters that allow them to negotiate chaotic and brutal historical settings, in order to be with that burden of the past.  Santiago has stated that with this most recent novel she set out on a journey to find a history in which little or no records exist: that of her own ancestors.  Within that journey emerged Ana; a ruthless plantation mistress who also displays a feminism informed by the author’s time.  Santos Febres aimed to explore the consequences of sexual exploitation during slavery; her protagonist is a woman who, while investigating abuses committed against women freed from slavery, becomes involved in a sadomasochistic relationship with her white male assistant.  Delving into the uncomfortable interactions between sexuality and violence, each writer permits herself to examine these encounters in an experimental way, free from the constraints of historical certainty.  Through acts of imagining, the workings of privilege, shame, and cruelty within intimate relationships in a plantation economy are revealed.  What is more, each novel engages an often dizzying erotic narrative movement, which suspends time while entangling the characters within the trappings of desire.

The aim of this study is to compare Sinophone and Anglophone fan fiction consisting of female-oriented male-male romance: danmei and slash, respectively. To increase comparability, we analysed Harry Potter fan fiction in which the characters Harry and Draco are married. Male-male marriage was selected because our online Sinophone and Anglophone BL fandom surveys indicate this to be the most popular story element of the nine options we provided. We analysed five stories originally written in Chinese and five originally written in English which subsequently had been fan-translated into Chinese. Using Thematic Analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) we found some robust patterns. In contrast to the Anglophone fiction, the Sinophone tended to: stress the importance of family approval for the marriage; incorporate a wedding ceremony; employ clearly gendered roles between partners; utilise extended, as opposed to nuclear, families; and showed the couple to produce children, particularly boys. Hence, the stories mirror the relative social conservatism and social liberalism of their cultures of origin. However, in reading and writing such danmei young Chinese women are still pushing at the boundaries of the traditional family.

This petition argues that erotic comics are an important cultural record of the way in which diverse sexualities are understood and portrayed, and sexual fantasies explored. An Erotic Comics Anglophone Archive (ErotiCAA) will preserve these works for research by scholars in many different disciplines.

One of the biggest problems facing anyone researching pornography/erotica or comics, and therefore doubly so for anyone researching erotic/pornographic comics, is finding and gaining access to primary materials. So we have decided to have a go at establishing an archive in the UK to collect and catalogue English-language porn and erotic comics.

We intend to approach a number of libraries and research institutions to host and/or fund the archive. Persuading them to support us will be a lot easier if we an show that there is a need for this archive, so to help with that we’ve started this petition.

This chapter is a study of dildos and strap-ons as accessories in early modern literature and culture. It first asks what it means to theorize accessories as things, and then what it means to theorize things as accessories. The end performs a reading of Thomas Nashe’s dildo poem “The Choise of Valentines” (c. 1592), demonstrating how a positive theory of accessories based on joining and attachment rather than lack can bring us back to the very question that the Freudian fetish denies from the start: the question of pleasure.

This study unraveled the degree of eroticism and queer attraction in 41 selected Bicol Lyric Poetry. The researchers used the Grounded Theory Method (GTM) and integrated the Queer Theory and Psychoanalytic approach in the textual analysis of selected Bicol lyric poetry in an attempt to explain the degree of eroticism and queer attraction of Bicolanos. The Analyses of the researchers were validated through the participants of the study which included 10 binary genders, 10 male homosexuals, 10 lesbians and 10 experts in the field of Bicol literature. The researchers identified four degrees of eroticism and named it: Tikwil, Girok, Kagat and Siram (Bicol terms which mean poke, tickle, bite, and euphoria). Significant findings of the study revealed that homosexuals, bisexuals and lesbians exist in Bicol lyric poetry, and Bicolanos, as seen on their lyric poetry, fell under the degree of Kagat, where people engage into sexual activities for physical gratification. In addition, queer Bicolanos, as seen on their lyric poetry, driven by strong physical attraction, give in into sexual encounters even with different sexual partners. This study recommended that future studies should explore a wider range of Bicol literature other than lyric poetry and investigate on the presence of queer characters, the roles they project, and dig deeper on the acceptance or condemnation of these queer identities in the society as a whole.

Abstract: Rotten girl on rotten girl: Boys’ Love ‘research’

‘Fujoshi’ (rotten girl) is a derogatory Japanese term for female fans of homoerotic manga and anime in the genre know as Boys’ Love (BL). BL is a global phenomenon and, overlapping with the male-male slash community, one of the largest, female-oriented erotic subcultures. I have underway, what is already, the biggest survey of the Anglophone fandom (https://leeds.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/blfandomsurvey) and have, so far, completed around 12 face-to-face and 30 e-mail interviews. This is the first project I have conducted on sexually explicit material and, although I consider myself to be a fujoshi, I am not, otherwise, a user of pornography/sexually explicit material. In fact, this research has presented a huge challenge to me in terms of becoming more comfortable discussing sexual topics and, even more personally, in making my own investment in MxM public. This has meant dealing with feelings of embarrassment and shame, but also of relief in finding and communicating with other women who have a similar erotic fantasy life. However, the project has also made me feel, at times, frankly paranoid because I have been afraid that my BL may contravene UK prohibited images of children legislation (it doesn’t!). What does BL represent for me that I am willing to put myself through this, spend most of my spare time on it, and, hence, is it really ‘research’?

Biography
Anna Madill is Chair in Qualitative Inquiry and Deputy Head of the School of Psychology, University of Leeds, and member of the university Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies. She is Co-Founder and former Chair (2008-11) of the British Psychological Society Qualitative Methods in Psychology Section and is Associated Editor of the British Journal of Clinical Psychology. Anna received British Academy funding (2011-2013) for ‘Understanding Japanese Boys' Love manga from a UK perspective’ from which she has three book chapters in press, made 12 conference presentations (including a keynote) and many other presentations to academics and the public, and, in relation to which, she has been consulted by the BBC.

Resumo Carlos Pena Filho, poeta pernambucano, ficou conhecido como Poeta do Azul, devido às referências recorrentes que faz ao azul em sua obra. Ao azul podem ser atribuídas várias conotações. No poema por nós escolhido, Soneto do Desmantelo Azul, sustentamos que o azul adquire conotações eróticas. A primeira parte de nosso trabalho é uma revisão ou breve discussão sobre o conceito de texto erótico com que trabalhamos, e a segunda parte é, propriamente, a discussão do texto que escolhemos para análise. Cientes de que pouco se tem explorado a questão do erotismo na obra de Pena Filho, esse nosso trabalho é então uma pequena contribuição para preencher esse vazio nos estudos sobre esse poeta. Abstract Carlos Pena Filho, a poet from Pernambuco, Brazil, became known as`The Blue Poet`since in his poetry he makes several references to the blue color. Blue can here have several meanings. In the poem chosen by us, " Soneto do desmantelo azul " , we defend that blue acquires erotic connotations. The first part of our paper is a revision or rapid discussion on the concept of the erotic used by us, and the second part presents our critical reading of the chosen poem. Being aware that eroticism has not been sufficiently explored in PenaFilhòs literature, our paper intends to be a contribution to the studies of this poet`s work.

Este volumen, de sugestivo título, reúne once ensayos que abordan el motivo del erotismo literario en diversas facetas, dando cabida a reveladoras investigaciones sobre este tema que, como afirma la editora, no sólo no está agotado, sino que abre nuevos caminos para la crítica.

The essay aims to examine the comic and grotesque representations of love, erotic desire and sexual practices depicted in Tanizaki Jun'ichirō's literature, from his early short stories to his last novel. The analysis focuses on different figures that in Tanizaki's fiction reflect peculiar attitudes toward eros: the artist, the jester, the man-child and the human-animal.
