There is common consensus that managerial compensation is strongly tied to firm size and much less so to financial performance. One suspects that observed restructuring and downsizing in corporations in recent years may have an effect on these results. Based on multi-task theoretical considerations, our evidence for German industrial firms shows that pay for firm size elasticities decrease only for large firms as they change their strategy from growth to downsizing strategies. Furthermore, pay for performance elasticities are contrary to predictions of agency theory. Both results provide further support to the common belief that compensation contracts in public corporations seem imperfectly tied to firm performance and managers' tasks.

The research problem was that there is little known about the lived experiences of Hispanic women business executives. In this work, we examined the longitudinal measurement invariance of a battery composed of distinct cognitive parameters. A sample of 86 individuals (53.5% females; mean age = 65.73), representative of the Portuguese older population, with respect to sex, age and level of education was assessed twice over an average of two years. By means of a confirmatory factor analysis approach, we tested whether a two-factor solution [corresponding to measures of memory performance (MEM) and executive functioning (EXEC)] was reliable over time. Nested models of longitudinal invariance demonstrated the existence of partial strong invariance over time. In other words, this indicates that there is an equivalence of the factorial structure and factor loadings for all items; this was also observed for the item intercepts for all the items, except for one of the items from the EXEC dimension. This study explores roles of NEDs of SMEs listed in the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in the London Stock Exchange. It extends the literature on NEDs’ roles relevant to a context where the adherence to the principles of non-regularity corporate governance is not compulsory. We adopted a content analysis approach as a novel method for exploring roles of NEDs using details of 1220 NEDs recorded in 75 annual reports. It revealed that NEDs meet the expectations of several stakeholders simultaneously by playing multiple roles. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to clarify how IT managers' decision styles affect their evaluation of information technology.Design/methodology/approachFour different decision styles were assessed in a leadership test directed towards IT managers. Each style included two dimensions: confidence judgment ability and decision heuristic usage. Participants belonging to each style were interviewed and their answers analysed with regard to their reasoning about central areas of IT management.FindingsResults suggest that a decision style combining intuitive and analytical capabilities lead to better evaluations of information technology.Originality/valeThe results of the present study are valuable for the understanding of how decision styles impact on IT management in everyday life.
