This paper investigates the potential of using controlled hydraulic transients for non-intrusive assessment of the internal condition of water transmission pipelines. Deterioration of pipelines is a natural process. An effective tool for evaluating the state of pipeline interiors could be extremely useful for planning rehabilitation or identifying critical points in a system. A non-intrusive technique for evaluating the state of the internal surface of a pipeline is introduced. The total length of the pipeline was divided into a number of segments and the condition of each segment assessed based on the transient response corresponding to that interval. In addition to quantification of the deterioration level of different sections of the pipeline, critical points were identified where closer investigation was suggested. The proposed technique, although in an early stage of development, was tested on a real pipeline.

ABSTRACT. The assumption of interregional equilibrium in migration research has recently been attacked. At issue is the motivation for on-going migration if rents and wags accurately compensate for spatial amenity variations; but if rents and wages fail to accurately compensate potential migrants, then amenity valuations must be flawed. We here show that arguments supporting substantial disequilibrium in the US. economy are unconvincing. The substantive issues are then clarified by a model which allows for both equilibrium and disequilibrium migration. We conclude that intertemporally systematic migration stems predominantly from equilibrium forces.

This paper explores the relationship between travel and social inclusion in relation to a relatively rarely examined group of travel destinations—arts and cultural activities. This paper examines travel behaviour to arts and cultural activities and how this relates to social inclusion. Research literature associated with these issues is examined and then an analysis of a household travel survey in Melbourne, Australia, is undertaken to explore how travel to arts and cultural activities varies by income, car ownership and location. The paper outlines a range of evidence linking participation in arts and cultural activities and positive outcomes for social inclusion. Arts and cultural activities do not fit well into traditional household travel survey definitions of trip purposes. There is also no definitional difference between travel to activities and ‘participation’ or ‘attendance’ in arts and cultural activities. This is unfortunate since social outcomes may vary by participation or attendance. Travel survey analysis shows that like other activities trip rates to arts and cultural activities increase with income. However higher participation is demonstrated for zero- and one-car households, which contrasts with previous research of work, education and social travel. Higher participation is also demonstrated for those living in inner parts of the city. The paper suggests that most travel to arts and cultural activity is quite localised and hence much travel may be led by the diversity and range of local opportunities provided. These are particularly high in inner parts of the city. A high share of travel is also demonstrated for older people, who are thought to have the time and desire for greater participation in arts and cultural activities.►Arts and cultural trip rates positively correlate to low work-force participation. ►Arts and cultural trip rates positively correlate to low household car ownership. ►Trip rates to the arts are influenced by the local availability of activities. ►Arts and cultural participation can be important to social inclusion. ►Arts and cultural activities are not accurately recorded in household travel surveys.

This paper presents the SR-GCWS-CS probabilistic algorithm that combines Monte Carlo simulation with splitting techniques and the Clarke and Wright savings heuristic to find competitive quasi-optimal solutions to the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) in reasonable response times. The algorithm, which does not require complex fine-tuning processes, can be used as an alternative to other metaheuristics—such as Simulated Annealing, Tabu Search, Genetic Algorithms, Ant Colony Optimization or GRASP, which ...

It's a known fact that estimated number of blind persons in the world is about 285 million, approximately equal to the 20% of the Indian Population. They are mostly dependent on someone for even accessing their basic daily needs. In our project, we used TensorFlow, it's a new library from Google. TensorFlow model our neural networks. The TensorFlow Object Detection API is used to detect many objects. We have Introduce an algorithm (SSD). SSD uses a similar phase while training, to match the appropriate anchor box with the bounding boxes of each ground truth object within an image. Essentially, the anchor box with the highest degree of flap with an object is responsible for predicting that object's class and its location. It has microcontroller which has wi-fi inbuilt module. This guide is convenient and offers data to the client to move around in new condition, regardless of whether indoor or open air, through an ease to use interface. Then again, and so as to lessen route challenges of the visually impaired, a deterrent location framework utilizing ultrasounds is added to this gadget. The proposed framework identifies the closest hindrance through ultrasonic sensors and it gives an alert to illuminate the visually impaired about its confinement.

The mechanical properties of Co-Cr-W-Mo alloy specimens fabricated concerning different orientations considering the powder coating direction in the Selective Laser Melting process have been investigated. In parallel, the influence of design of the powder coating component on powder particles' alignment and compaction have been examined. The tensile specimens had been located and oriented at three different positions on the build tray. The positions had been chosen considering the start and finish lines of the powder coating process, whereas the samples oriented longitudinally, diagonally and transversely to the powder coating direction. Two different energy densities have been applied for each set of samples to observe the similarities. The position and orientation have a remarkable effect on the density, ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of the specimens. The metallurgical properties deteriorated gradually along the powder coating direction. The densification of the powder also varied along and across the powder coating direction. Eventually, the stochasticity of metallurgical properties gradually increased toward the distant regions along the powder coating direction. High stochasticity of tensile properties has present in the specimens for a particular fabricating orientation which has been observed for both fabricating energy densities.

Accidents are major issues these days. There are 2 basic reasons: Several accidents occur due to rash driving caused by drunken drivers. The second kind of accident occurs due to the sleepy-eyed condition of the person driving while driving long distances in the dark while not taking correct sleep. The eye blink sensor monitors the sleep state of a person and alerts the driver using a buzzer when an uncommon sleep state is detected. Accidents because of the associate degree alcoholic state of the person can be controlled and prevented with the assistance of an Alcohol sensing element assembled on a steering wheel. Accidents may be detected employing a vibration sensing element and a vehicle can be located by a GPS module. Accident alerts are then sent to the rescue team.

We review the history of the philosophy of fondue since Aristotle so as to arrive at the formulation of the paradox of Swiss fondue. Either the wine and the cheese cease to exist (Buridan), but then the fondue is not really a mixture of wine and cheese. Or the wine and the cheese continue to exist. If they do, then either they continue to exist in different places (the chemists), but then a fondue can never be perfectly homogenous (it is a French fondue). Or the wine and the cheese continue to exist in the same place (the Stoïcs), but then wine and cheese have to be, oddly, penetrable and spatially expansible.
Aristote attempted to solve this paradox by arguing that the cheese and wine continue to exist, but only potentially in the fondue. We sketch an alternative answer. The wine and the cheese continue to exist, but only non-spatially in the fondue. Wine and cheese, once mixed, become non-spatial constituents of the fondue, a bit like character traits are non-spatial constituents of persons. The wine and the cheese are in the fondue, but only the fondue is there in the fondue pot.

The aim of this study is to discuss potential long term effects of online shopping on transport (both passenger and freight) and urban land use planning (e.g. structure and location of retail) with a focus on the Swedish case. The explorative approach is conducted through a mixed method approach combining the analysis of planning documents and reports, interviews with planners/private actors for the Swedish context and a review of international research literature. The results of the study indicate that in Swedish planning documents the current understanding of the potential effects of increasing e-commerce is limited. E-commerce is typically viewed as an opportunity to address transport system related issues through substituting passenger travel with freight distribution. The review of literature reveals that e-commerce so far has done little to alter prevailing individual mobility habits while there is conclusive evidence that freight transport will increase and result in more dispersed transport patterns as home delivery becomes more important. There is also a potential conflict between consumer pressure for fast home deliveries of goods bought online and current approaches to addressing problems with urban freight through consolidation and coordination of distribution transports. Concerning location of retailing there are indications that e-commerce may be contributing to an ongoing transformation where the role of city centres as commercial areas are reduced. An important implication for urban planning is consequently that the continued trend towards e-commerce should not be regarded as an easy solution for an unsustainable transport sector. While increasing e-commerce can bring about changes that could support less car-dependent planning and thereby encourage policies for enhancing the transition towards a more sustainable society, it is far from obvious that this will be the case. To harness the potential benefits of increasing e-commerce there is a need for developing pro-active planning strategies that address the impacts of e-commerce fully. At the same time, this study indicates a lack of knowledge regarding the long term effects of e-commerce on the transport sector which can only be solved through more research carried out.

Operators (MVNOs) the possibility to deploy their components more rapidly and at a lower cost. By optimizing multiple virtual machines (VMs) in the same physical server, we considerably reduce the cost and power consumption. Therefore, server virtualization can be exploited to run VMs on servers that provide the lowest delay to their users. Our goal is to install MVNO virtual machines on a set of host operator physical equipment, such that user latencies are minimal while all capacity constraints are satisfied. We formulate our VM location problem as a mixed integer-programming problem. We study the complexity of the problem. Then, we conduct a sensitivity analysis to study the impact of the user latencies change on the optimal solution. To reach a good feasible solution in less time, we propose an heuristic. It reaches solutions close to the optimal in a very little time. The running time improvement compared to the Branch and Bound model exceeds 90 % for larger topologies having m...

This article explores what two regional film production companies in Norway do to survive and succeed with their goals. The production of feature films in Norway is largely an Oslo-based effort, but despite this reality, there are companies in the regions that produce feature films. The analysis draws on semi-structured interviews with eight employees in two companies. Mer Film has in relatively short time managed to attract talented directors and establish networks with international, critically acclaimed production companies. Filmbin was one of the first film companies in Norway who committed themselves to the production of films for children. The article shows that success must be related to context and that reputation, talent development and choice of genre, geographical location, networking and social capital, risk diversification, entrepreneurship, organizational culture and leadership, are essential factors for the companies.

In this paper I present the prepositional system of Persian. I show that Persian prepositions can be divided into three classes (Class 1, Class 2a and Class 2b) which exhibit distinct syntactic behavior. Then I examine the question of the categorial status of Class 2 prepo-sitions and demonstrate that they are not to be regarded as nouns. Finally I present the extended PP projection of Persian spatial prepo-sitions and argue for a feature-based analysis of the properties they manifest.

The needs of comprehending English as communication tools increases day by day especially for students. The notion above leads PT XYZ or PT XYZ , a company concerns in service education, to spread its business opportunity in Cimahi. By using Kumar and Suresh’s (2012) dominant and secondary analysis, the study conveyed in qualitative descriptive method and literary review—gathering the data, observing the company and doing interview. The result shows that Cimahi Tengah is the most strategic location for PT XYZ in terms of opening the new cabang. Keywords: factors in location plant, rating factor, service education.
