Numerous studies have focused on delineating the relationship between tourism and economic growth. In this article, we present the results of a rigorous meta-regression analysis based on 545 estimates drawn from 113 studies that empirically tested the tourism-led growth hypothesis (TLGH). The results suggest the presence of publication bias in the literature on this topic, where the majority of studies report positive and statistically significant estimates. Findings provide support for the TLGH, but they also suggest that the estimates are sensitive to a number of factors that are related to country data, specification, and estimation characteristics, and time span. Such sensitivities suggest that greater emphasis should be placed on reporting estimates of the relationship between tourism and economic growth across a variety of methodological characteristics and specification and estimation choices. The implications of the results for theory development are also discussed.

Universities and colleges have started focusing on how to encourage their faculty member to write and publish research papers in all different sectors. This study highlights the challenges that faculty members face and which hinder them from conducting scientific research papers at one promising educational college in the region, Bahrain Teachers College, University of Bahrain. The data collected using a questionnaire that was sent to all faculty members across different academic divisions. The sample consisted of 28 faculty members of different academic ranks. The results showed that faculty members have the competence to do and publish research. However, they indicated that they need more time which, they believe, can be gained through reducing the teaching load.

La presente investigación realiza una revisión pormenorizada de los principales espacios de divulgación de investigaciones sobre educomunicación y media literacy en Iberoamérica, tomando como referencia revistas de alto impacto (JCR/Scopus), publicaciones en índices emergentes (ESCI), publicaciones históricas de reconocida trayectoria, y congresos de referencia internacional. En el ámbito de las revistas científicas de alto impacto se evidencian espacios reducidos para la publicación en español, lo que deviene en altas tasas de rechazo. Sin embargo, algunas revistas del Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) han mejorado su posicionamiento relativo, cogiendo el testigo de la temática de educomunicación. Asimismo, se revisan algunas publicaciones históricas de la comunicación y la educación, como la Revista Comunicar, especialista en la materia, Chasqui, Estudios Venezolanos de la Comunicación, Contratexto y Comunicação & Educação, algunas con más de 50 años de existencia. Se concluye con una enumeración de los principales congresos internacionales de la temática, para ofrecer, en definitiva, una especie de mapping sobre los principales espacios de difusión de esta temática en nuestro idioma.

Background: Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF) is an independent health predictor of circulatory and respiratory systems and can be estimated using non-exercise equations. However, the accuracy of such equations in a national representative population is unknown. The objective of this study was to cross-validate 11 CRF equations developed by three different researchers using a United States representative population. Methods and Findings: The study included 2470 adult males and females from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999 to 2004) with measured CRF (mCRF) available in terms of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max). The relationships between non-exercise estimated CRFs and measured VO2max were analyzed by examining the Constant Error (CE), Standard Error of Estimate (SEE), correlation coefficient (r) and Root Of Mean Square Error (RMSE). The estimated CRFs from four equations for males and six equations for females were different from mCRF, with CE values ranging from-0.712 (Jurca2) to 0.457 mL/kg/min (Jackson/fat/2level) for males and from-3.722 (Rexhepi2014) to 1.166 mL/kg/min (Jackson/fat/2level) for females (P<0.

UNITED AIRLINES AND ITS “CONTRACT OF CARRIAGE”

On April 9th, a video showing police officers forcibly dragging a passenger off a United Airlines flight sparked outrage on social media.  United asked for four volunteers in order to make room for United employees after passengers had been boarded and seated on the flight.  The selected passenger, Dr. David Dao, was a 69 year-old Asian American doctor. He refused to leave the plane since he was seeing patients the following morning, and he was then removed off the plane by force.

Under federal rules, commercial airlines are governed by a contract, referred to as the “Contract of Carriage” or COC.  A COC imposes legal duties upon carriers and protects the legal rights of passengers.  In justifying its actions removing Dr. Dao from the plane, United Airlines cited Rule 25 in its COC which is titled “Denied Boarding Compensation”.  The United COC’s Rule 25 applies when a passenger is denied boarding.  When there is an oversold United Airlines flight that originates in the U.S. or Canada, United can seek volunteers.  If there are not enough volunteers, other passengers may be denied boarding involuntarily in accordance with United’s boarding priority, but United provides transportation and compensation to the involuntarily denied passengers.  Plainly, this Rule does not seem to apply to the involuntary removal off a plane or to a refusal to transport once a passenger has boarded a plane – in other words, to the circumstances of this case.

Rule 21 in the United COC, entitled “Refusal of Transport” covers circumstances when a passenger who has already boarded a plane can be removed.  Under Rule 21, United has the right to refuse to transport or remove from the aircraft at any point any passenger for concerns such as unruly behavior, intoxication, inability to fit into one seat, and the like.  But Rule 21 does not seem to discuss overbooking or removal of passengers to satisfy United’s need for additional seats.  It follows that passengers may not be removed from a plane for any reason not listed in Rule 21.  In short, the legal basis under which United Airlines forcibly removed Dr. Dao off their plane is unclear and perhaps even questionable.

The video showing the manner in which Dr. Dao was removed off the plane sparked outrage in China.  Within four days, Dr. Dao’s story was read 910 million times on Weibo, China’s Twitter.  They analyzed and criticized United’s lottery system for selecting volunteers.

Social media and the Internet magnify our voices by making it easier and faster to attract public attention compared to other forms of communication.  The Internet which serves as the backbone of social media is international, and it is easy and cheap to mobilize massive public attention.

Airlines operating between the U.S. and China are very profitable.  In 2016, visitors between the U.S. and China increased 17% compared to 2015.  Many international airlines are attracted to China’s second-tier and third-tier cities.  United Airlines is one of them.  United’s share of the air travel market from China to the U.S. is about 20%, and United cooperates with China Airlines for internal air transportation in China.But this incident may seriously damage its reputation in China.

Dr. Dao settled his case against United, and so we will not know how a court would have interpreted the Rules in United’s Contract of Carriage,as applied to this incident.  It will be interesting to see if, going forward, United decides to modify the terms of its COC.

This Impact Report identifies and summarises the diverse impacts, resulting from the £500m of UK funding of Science and Technology in 2013, using numerous quantitative metrics and short case study extracts.  It shows how the varied impacts of a national science and technology organization and its many funded programmes can be annually identified, captured, tracked, and summarised in a public document.

The report was produced for, and by, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) -  the UK Research Council responsible for funding: (1) all UK astronomy, particle and nuclear physics research, (2) related UK science and technology facilities (e.g. as Harwell and Daresbury), (3) the UK contribution to international science (e.g. CERN, international telescopes and space missions), (4) innovation and business spin-off programmes, and (5) UK public engagement activities.

The Report was co-researched and co-authored by the STFC Impact Team, including myself while Impact Evaluation Manager in 2013, with Dr. Claire Dougan-McCallie (lead author/Head of Impact) and Jenny Beard, with additional input from senior managers, and many data and case study contributions from other key managers across STFC.

Varied key impacts are identified and reported including:

• Research amongst the best (by citation impact) in astronomy, nuclear and particle physics.
• Supported research of 226 Principal Investigators in 70 universities, led to 1,100 peer-reviewed papers in 2012.
• Facilities (the Diamond Light Source, ISIS and CLF) were used in 2012/13 by over 4,200 unique users , in over 2,400 experiments, producing over 1,000 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

• Technology from CERN benefited the UK economy by over £100 billion every year.
• Funding the development of the UK’s space, internet and computer animation industries, returned over £500 billion to the UK economy per annum.
• Funded Innovation Campuses hosted over 230 enterprises and supported over 5,000 jobs.
• UK industry won £43 million in contracts from the international subscriptions funded, and had accumulated a total of £150 million since 2005.

• Funded research inspired future generations to study STEM subjects, attracting 90% of UK undergraduates to study physics, funded 782 PhD students  and 16,800 student training days.
• Between 2009 to 2012 public engagement programmes engaged people on 58 million occasions, with 2 million people engaged in face-to-face activities in 2013 alone.

The main objective of this project is to implement an Android based Healthcare Information System.                        This system will help the users to identify certain diseases by answering certain questions asked by the system.                      Based on the diagnosis received, the user will be getting some suggestion of medicines that are available at the local chemist without prescription with an advice to visit the doctor. The database will be developed with open source software. This application will also provide online help to the patients to get more detail about the already diagnosed disease.

Gross National Happiness (GNH) in its pragmatic sense intended to provide alternatives to sustainable development since 1972 by then fourth king of Bhutan His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck (Adler, 2009., CBS, 2004 and 2008a., Chen, 2015., GNHC, 2015., Hall, 2007., Helliwell, Layard, & Sachs, 2013, 2015 and 2017., Metz, 2014., Munro, 2016., Rinzin, 2006., Thinley, 2002 and 2005., Ura, et.al., 2012., Ura, 2015). However, it was not until 1980 and 1996 that GNH made its official debut (Allison, 2012., CBS, 2004., Costanza, 2009., and Munro, 2016). The acceptance of the concept of GNH globally is therefore novice to many, challenging and its application malleable in its infancy stage. And while it was heard, the subjective position of happiness attracted fewer participants.

While there seems to be global acknowledgement towards GNH (Allison, 2012., Hearn & Givel, 2010., Helliwell, et. al, 2015., Marks, 2009., UN, 2011., World Bank, 1996 as cited in Rinzin, 2006), national development policies are still largely favored with GDP and its indicators such as per capita income.

This contributes to the question, if GDP alone aspires to protect the interest of global happiness, then why would countries want to re-asses or assess its development policies by introducing human development indexes? It is then pivotal to strategically assess why GNH as a development policy is important, how GNH is measured, and how it is disseminated for application? Unlike the usual literatures that completely negate GDP to show GNH as an ultimate tool for development, this paper is an attempt to advocate GNH as tool for sustainable development along GDP, however with preference slightly skewed more towards GNH. In this paper, I will use the terms well-being and happiness interchangeably. Discussion on other component of GNH such as social responsibility, social capital, and sustainable development has been omitted here as this requires additional study, independent on its own.

En este artículo se presentan algunas consideraciones y reflexiones sobre la ética de la investigación sociojurídica a partir de postulados y enfoques que hacen parte de la ética de la investigación en seres humanos tal como esta se ha desarrollado en el área biomédica. La investigación sociojurídica se toma como un subtipo de investigación en ciencias sociales. Ahora bien, como parte del tipo de investigación que se requiere para el avance y del desarrollo del derecho, la investigación sociojurídica presenta sus consideraciones teóricas propias, a partir de lo cual hacemos una aproximación a la problemática de la definición misma de este tipo de investigación. Para el análisis desde la perspectiva de la ética de la investigación, se revisaron como muestra a conveniencia diez artículos que presentan resultados de investigaciones sociojurídicas, sin que se trate de un metaanálisis, tomando como punto de partida las consideraciones de la ética de la investigación con sujetos humanos en biomedicina. En los artículos referidos, se encontró que en efecto este tipo de investigaciones toman en consideración diferentes pautas éticas —no establecidas formalmente—, que buscan el respeto a los derechos de los participantes, con las particularidades propias de la investigación sociojurídica y que merecen ser tomadas en cuenta. El artículo concluye con algunas sugerencias desde lo práctico y lo metodológico en relación con la ética de la investigación sociojurídica.

In this study an attempt has been made to answer the questions " What are Research and its types? " What is difference between research paper and article? What is difference between project report, thesis and dissertation? A systematic literature review is undertaken giving an overview of its processes and principles. Research' is a particular type of investigation. It is impossible to do research without having a problem, which is required to be resolved, or a question, which needs to be answered but it is difficult for scholars to select and write topic, statement of purpose and thesis, so the solutions of these are given in this article. The definition and evolution of the approach are described, including the various kinds of research being used today. The research procedure and its nature have been discussed from different scholars' point of view. This article also seeks to organize the scattered knowledge at one point to get research scholars equipped with the latest knowledge. Finally, this study has revealed that research is purposeful and solution-oriented investigation which needs every step properly written. Guidelines given in this study are very clear to help the student to complete their article thesis and dissertation so researchers are advised to follow the guidelines to write quality thesis.

Lack of teamwork among health science students can be especially challenging in emergency settings. A simulated neonatal intensive care (NICU) exercise was held with nursing, radiology, and respiratory therapy students to determine if students valued interdisciplinary education and felt the experience enhanced clinical skills. A mixed methods study was conducted to determine if there was a significant difference in students' perceptions of their resuscitation and professional communication skills after the experience. A t-test addressed the following: H1: There will be an increase in students' perception of their confidence in using their professional skills in a hospital setting after the interdisciplinary communication NICU experience. H2: There will be an increase in students' perception of their ability to communicate with other disciplines after the interdisciplinary communication NICU experience. Students answered six pre-experience open-ended questions and seven post-experience open-ended questions; responses were coded, and multiple themes emerged. Students reported gaining confidence in using their skills within the hospital setting after participating in the experience and reported possessing more high quality interdisciplinary communication skills after participating in the experience. The open-ended questions indicated students valued the simulations, and they felt more prepared to interact in an interdisciplinary manner in the clinical setting. Students also desired more simulations during their education. Limitations were discrepancies in student clinical experiences, sample size, and self-reported levels of communication, skills, and teamwork abilities. This study could determine the potential need for growth and development of interdisciplinary simulation experiences within healthcare education course design and standards.

In this essay, I discuss the problem of plausible-sounding bullshit in science, and I describe one particularly insidious method for producing it. Because it takes so much more energy to refute bullshit than it does to create it, and because bullshit can be so damaging to the integrity of empirical research as well as to the policies that are based upon such research, I suggest that addressing this issue should be a high priority for publication ethics.

As the use of qualitative inquiry increases within the field of social work, researchers must consider the issue of establishing rigor in qualitative research. This article presents research procedures used in a study of autoethnographies that were written regarding the experience of being Jewish. In this project, the researchers utilized reflexivity, audit trail, triangulation by observer, peer debriefing, member check and prolonged engagement in order to manage the threats to trustworthiness as discussed by Padgett (1998). Implications of the project suggest that research procedures utilized by qualitative researchers to establish rigor are an important way to increase our confidence that the voice of the participants is heard, therefore fitting the mission of the social work profession.

Research is important for tourism development in many countries. In Qatar, some tourism research has been published in scholarly journals. However, no studies have identified or examined the thematic, methodological, and authorship trends of Qatar tourism research. This study bridges this knowledge gap by reviewing tourism research on Qatar published in journals. Seven databases such as ScienceDirect, Hospitality and Tourism Complete, Emerald Insights, Scopus, ProQuest, Taylor & Francis Online, and Sage Journals Online were used to search and identify articles on Qatar tourism. Twenty-eight articles were identified for content analysis. The main results show that the dominant research themes/foci are sports tourism (35.7%), tourism planning and development (17.9%), and heritage (10.7%). From the methodological perspective, 68% of the data type was secondary. Furthermore, data analysis techniques, validity, trustworthiness, and research limitations were neglected by most authors. This paper also states the implications of these findings.

Productivity metrics provoke mixed responses from the research community. The Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) facilitates an open and clear data infrastructure to handle publication products. ORCID is a unique identifier that accepts data interoperability for funders, industries, and publishers by exploring indicators for research aspects that they aspire to evaluate instead of using current indicators because they are readily accessible. This manuscript examines the use of ORCID for publication metrics, grant applications, management and reporting platforms. The benefits of ORCID offer a quick way to promote and organize a researcher's work as well as to foster better communication among researchers.

The work of an academic researcher is multi-faceted, and it takes determination and willpower in order to build a reliable and professional reputation. A researchers’ path into the coveted world of academic recognition, both on national and international level, is a long and challenging task driven by sheer determination, talent and the investment of valuable time and resources. This is true for every facet of a scholars’ work, but it is especially important when publishing research. This hurdle can be overcome with a high-quality academic editing or translation job which can drastically alter the chances of publication in the academic journal of your choice. Being that over 90% of academic journals are published in English it is crucial to have the best professional academic editor or translator to English possible.

Research in social sciences is meant to change or improve human life. Indeed, due to the complexity of life today, research is one of the best tools for change, innovation, development, and progress. The Commission on Higher Education has recently been quite aggressive in promoting research production and dissemination in all Philippine tertiary institutions. In turn, educational leaders have put pressure on educators. While conducting research has significantly increased in speed in the past few years, the number is still highly limited for those whose research outputs make it into publication. Many researchers may have the passion for publishing but do not know exactly how to go about it. Some who have managed to complete their manuscripts have had them rejected by the editorial board. Everyone is trying to get hold of the secrets of the editors. This paper presents the synthesis of a study from systematic content analysis of academic journals from 10 leading research-based educational institutions and organizations. The goal of the study was mainly to investigate how these journals’ publications are aligned with the Millenium Developmental Goals. Findings reveal that there is a consistent trend in the areas where most publications abound, while other areas are left out. Additionally, practical steps to take in writing academic papers for publication are proposed for the purposes of meeting the real needs of people through research.

This research, conducted by the author when a Senior Researcher at Newcastle University, UK, was funded by a UK governance organisation to help them assess, integrate and improve their understanding of the governed population.

ABSTRACT: Governance organisations have been urged to develop more holistic evidence-based approaches with partners to better deal with issues affecting the governed population. This presupposes an understanding of the population, yet there has been little research work addressing how governance organisations come to understand their governed population, nor how this understanding can be improved upon within such organisations.

This case study examined in-depth how understanding of a governed population was developed within one UK local governance organisation and it explored how such understanding might be developed and improved through more holistic and evidence-based organisational learning within the organisation and its governance partnerships.

The research methodology involved placement within the governance organisation, participant observations on several projects and innovative initiatives, observations within, across, and outside the organisation, and also interviews with varied key stakeholders.

The study examined:

- stakeholder engagement and networks
- current and varied understandings of the population
- mechanisms actually used for developing understandings
- the influence of context on organisational learning

and analysed these to arrive at a recommendations to improve organisational understanding of the governed population.

In the case studied, significant strengths were found: including innovative past learning trials for development, extensive ongoing networking activities, and many varied and accumulating quantitative datasets available across partnerships.

However, entrenched organisational approaches and practices constrained the development of holistic evidence-based understanding, for instance: the absence of systematic maintained collective learning processes; weak recording and forgetting of understandings; methodological exclusion of stakeholders from the development of understanding; the relative neglect of qualitative data, explanations, investigations, interpretations, and reflexivity; and also implicit organisational acceptance of such limitations and low aspirations.

Nonetheless, untapped opportunities existed to enable change including: latent practitioner knowledge and innovative management champions, the desire for improvement and raised aspirations within learning networks, and the development potential of alterative learning approaches.

It was concluded that more holistic evidence-based understanding was possible, but required new learning approaches beyond those then in use in both local government or academia.   

Recommendations are made to utilise and develop improved organisational learning approaches trialed and reported in the case study.

It is argued that the case study findings, conclusions, and recommendations may be applicable to other similar local governance organisations and partnerships that seek to better understand local populations, services and interventions.

Graphic design faces the contradictions of commercial intent and social relevance. This study explores the contribution of criticism, in two independent, seminal graphic design magazines, towards shifting the dominant preferences of graphic design from a purely commercial pursuit to a human-centred practice. Emigre magazine (c.1984 - 2005) and Dot Dot Dot magazine (c.2000 - 2010) are recognised for their critical intent and within them are emerging critical issues that suggest a potential niche for graphic design beyond consumerism and commerce. In the discipline of graphic design, designers define what it is to be human (and thus equally the realities of dehumanisation) in very particular ways (Rose, 2001:135; Freire, 1993:43). Graphic design has a history of commercial practice. This commercial history continues to define its identity and reinforce a particular body of knowledge. Graphic design criticism, however, is an inventive voice that has the potential to contribute to change. Both Emigre and Dot Dot Dot were representative of a “constructive marginality” (Bennett, 1993:64), drawing from their own set of references and awareness of graphic design’s potential to inform their identities, instead of looking to established definitions of practice to do so. This analysis explores how they anticipated a modern conception of graphic design that has become part of a recently adopted (2015) and more widely embedded discourse. This discourse involves critical design that interrogates social and political agency, multiculturalism, interdisciplinarity, environmental sustainability and speculative futures. Graphic design engages social institutions and practices that denote social constructions of difference and inequality, and is never neutral. Any work, any representation of ideology, is at once individual and discursive at the level of social, cultural and political formations. The critical issues evident in Emigre and Dot Dot Dot, with the exception of an absence of speculative futures, anticipate a more humanising perspective in graphic design. They invite critique and the potential for change that is relevant to the surrounding world, as a counter to commercial self-interest.

The purpose of this article is to present new trends and concepts in positive psychology, as well as recent innovations and applications in physical education and the sports sciences. Moreover, it lists the major fields of positive health and wellness, positive education, clinical and positive psychotherapy, positive neuroscience, as well as positive work and organizational scholarship. It also includes a discussion about measures and scales that have not yet been used in Arab nations, as well as innovations and future perspectives for international scientific publishing. The aim of this study is to add fresh elements to the description of the personal networks of men and women, using data from our two-generational study entitled Social embeddedness of young people aged 15–20 and their parents, and its impact on physical and mental health.

Abstract
This study is carried out to assess the impact of urban expansion on tenure security and livelihoods of peri-urban areas. Tenure insecurity and livelihood problems due to urban expansion is more significant in the developing countries than the developed countries in the urban periphery. Ethiopia have created mounting competition for periurban land located adjacent to towns and cities by people of diverse backgrounds. As a result of these; pressures and rapid socio-economic problems has been occurred. Therefore, this paper is aimed to assess the impacts of urban expansion on tenure security and livelihoods on the communities around Wolaita soddo town. Descriptive research desi gns as well a qualitative and quantitative research  approaches were employed.  Both probability and non probability sampling method  were used to get potential respondents and sample size was determined using sampling distribution of proportion method, hence 120 HHs were selected (85% (102) male and 15% (18) female HHs). Based on collected data the analysis was done using software like SPSS and Microsoft Excel and data were p resented by different data presentation tools like tables and graphs. The results from the study revealed that the expansion of Wolaita Soddo town has presented constraints and opportunities to people living in peri-urban areas. About 94 percent household responded as there is tenure insecurity. Due to having insecurity in their farm, there income from farm has decreased. Similarly, the study revealed us, because of town expansion periurban community, felt under malti-faceted livelihood problems; like loss of assets due to periodic land displacement, reduction farm land and under a great fear. On the other hand, increase in non-farm job opportunities and infrastructure development  in the study areas are noteworthy. The development of new livelihood activities has culminated in the adoption of both farming and non-farm  livelihood strategies were  as livelihood means which selected by peri-urban community in the study area to cope with the effects of periurbanization.

A group of higher education faculty members from different colleges and departments were participating in a 3-day professional development institute on writing for professional publication. The pressure to publish was on at their institution, newly categorized as a university. Prior to the mid-morning break on the fi rst day, the presenter asked the participants to write their concerns about publishing on Post-it notes and then read and categorized them before the group reconvened. The great majority of the participants were worried about their ability to fulfi ll the scalating
expectations for faculty. Only a few had published previously and they
ondered if they were capable of writing well enough to publish their work. As away to allay their fears, the presenter offered to assess a short writing sample from each participant that evening and return it the next day.
