Resumen: La filosofía es un modo de ser y una manera de conocer, tiene que ver con una actitud (de ánimo, intelectual, cognoscitiva y moral) que 'juega seriamente' a hacer preguntas esenciales; esto es, que tienen un con-tenido vital al tocar aspectos relacionados con lo que somos. La filosofía es entonces una tarea personal que fusiona nuestra manera de ver la vida (por ello es teoría) con nuestra forma de vivirla (de ahí que sea una actividad humana, conducción de la propia vida). La filosofía es una empresa individual que implica un compromiso vital y, por ello mismo, es una faena que resulta intransferible, además de impostergable.

Abstract: Philosophy is a way of being and a way of knowing, it has to do with an attitude (intellectual, moral, cognitive, mood) that seriously plays at asking essential questions; this means, they have vital content since they touch aspects related to what we are. So philosophy is a personal task which merges our way of looking at life (therefore it is a theory) and our way of living it (therefore it is a human activity, leading one's own life). Philosophy is an individual undertaking, it involves a vital engagement and, for that same reason, it is a non-transferable and urgent work.

The internet has developed into the number one port for communication and information. With the millions of websites available, search engines play a vital role in filtering information online. Over time, both search engines and technical equipment have been changing: web-enabled devices have been getting smaller, new search engines were launched, new search features added, and the presentation of the search results has undergone modifications. Users have been changing their search habits, too, they have been getting more experienced in searching the web. Analytical search engine studies, e.g. logfile analyses, are numerous. User-focused studies of search engine behavior and user satisfaction, on the other hand, are still rare. However, certain scenarios, such as exploratory searches, and the users' subjective satisfaction may not be captured in those analyses. Nonetheless, the users' subjective opinions and skills eventually decide upon the achieved search performance and the success of a search engine. The last user-focused search engine studies in Germany are from more than a decade ago. This study investigates user search engine behavior and satisfaction from the perspective of internet users in Germany. An survey was conducted to learn about search engine usage frequency, preferred search engines, and priorities for search engine selection, and to assess specific search habits, such as preferred search query language, customization of the search engine language settings, and the necessity for repetitive searches and query rephrasing as perceived by the users. The survey also evaluated the users' satisfaction with the search results in general, the search results on the first page, as well as the results retrieved with German versus English search queries. Where possible, the paper compares the findings with the user-focused studies from 2003 and 2005.

No Arkansas appellate court has examined the constitutionality of the recently enacted House Bill 1473 – better known as “Juli’s Law” – which allows officers to take DNA samples from suspects arrested for capital murder, murder in the first degree, kidnapping, sexual assault in the first degree, and sexual assault in the second degree. This Essay contends that Juli’s Law violates the Fourth Amendment of the federal constitution. Part I highlights certain features of the statute and explores the rationale underlying its enactment. Part II discusses the only published decision upholding the practice of taking of DNA samples from certain felony arrestees and the rationale for allowing the practice. Part III assesses the possible analytical approaches to evaluating the constitutionality of Juli’s law and concludes that any approach yields the same result: taking DNA swabs from felony arrestees prior to any conviction is unconstitutional.

NLP researchers face a dilemma: on one side, it is unarguably accepted that languages have internal structure rather than strings of words. On the other side, they find it very difficult and expensive to write grammars that have good coverage of language structures. Statistical machine translation tries to cope with this problem by ignoring language structures and using a statistical models to depict the translation process. Most of the translation models are word-based. While the approach has achieved surprisingly good performance comparable to the best commercial systems, many questions remain in the machine translation community. The main questions in this presentation will be;
Why users of the Internet are more likely than ordinary citizens to be found publishing comments which are actionable as defamatory, and;
What problems (or, looking at it from the other side of the fence, opportunities) arise if those who are the victims of defamatory comments on the net attempt to seek compensation by taking legal action .

Em Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação o tratamento da informação é comumente trabalhado na perspectiva descritiva e temática. Compreendendo a representação documental como uma convergência de processos e instrumentos destinados à criação de produtos documentais, considera-se oportuno que a construção de conhecimentos relativos ao campo de estudo sejam cada vez mais pensadas em conjunto, quer seja para a consolidação de pesquisas teórico-metodológicas, quer seja como respaldo à formação acadêmica. Nessa perspectiva, este estudo propõe-se a contextualizar o ensino e a pesquisa que envolvem a representação documental praticada no curso de bacharelado em Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação da Universidade Federal de São Carlos. Para tanto, realizou-se pesquisa bibliográfica e exploratória acerca da temática no âmbito da literatura especializada da área de organização da informação e das disciplinas formativas que compõem os eixos “Organização da Informação” e “Representação dos registros do conhecimento” da grade curricular do respectivo curso. Mediante uma análise crítica, verificou-se os avanços obtidos no que se referem ao ensino e à pesquisa acadêmica, bem como a correlação que pode ser estabelecida entre o ensino de graduação e as perspectivas multidisciplinares na pós-graduação e na pesquisa docente.

This paper proposes a novel approach for multilingual query processing, wherein we propose a phonetic distance based measure, for searching proper name data in Indian language scripts. The systems allows query in a language of user's choice. A cross-lingual search is conducted with the query being in one language and the documents being searched for, in another. Grapheme-to-phoneme converters are used to convert the user's query into an intermediate language-independent common ground (CG) representation. A dynamic time warping algorithm, wherein the substitution cost is based on a weighted phonetic distance measure, is used to match and rank the query results. In turn, a phoneme-to-grapheme converter is used to convert the search results in CG representation to the user's query language. We also discuss in detail the various issues particular to cross-lingual search on proper name data and address the same using the proposed approach.

The term Big Data is being used widely by companies and researchers who consider your relevant functionalities or applications to create value and business innovation. However, some questions arise about what is this phenomenon and, more precisely, how it occurs and under what conditions it can create value and innovation in business. In our view, the lack of depth related to the principles involved in Big Data and the very absence of a conceptual definition, made it difficult to answer these questions that have been the basis for our research. To answer these questions we did a bibliometric study and extensive literature review. The bibliometric studies were realized based in articles and citation of Web of Knowledge database. The main result of our research is the providing a conceptual definition for the term Big Data. Also, we propose which principles discovered can contribute with other researches that intend value creation by Big Data. Finally we propose see the value creation through Big Data using the Resource Based View as the main theory used for discuss that theme.

This essay explores the ways in which new developments in digital research infrastructure change our expectations of archival research and offer opportunities for a newly energized feminist approach to the archive. This paper analyzes the theory of “entrepreneurial incentives” in the work of Israel Kirzner. It argues that there is a logical problem with the notion of profit opportunities as exogenous causal agents: Without additional assumptions, the existence of opportunities alone does not sufficiently explain the alertness of entrepreneurs. The paper considers both stronger and weaker versions of this problem. It also questions the relation between entrepreneurial incentives and the tendency toward entrepreneurial success. Finally, it provides some commentary on the relevance of entrepreneurial incentives for an overall theory of the entrepreneur, and identifies several potential solutions to the problems discussed.

The birth of the internet in the 1990's did not only change the way of how people communicate but also of how they access information. The amount of information that the internet offers is enormous, it grows by the day and can be retrieved at any time – only technical issues may interrupt its constant availability. That is why the World Wide Web is nowadays the first port for information retrieval. Information retrieval tools are indispensible in this environment. They filter the information mass and allow users to locate the desired information. Search engines are one of the most popular web services. Most of what is known about user search engine behavior comes from query log analysis and clickthrough analysis. Only few studies have so far examined search engine behavior and user satisfaction from a mere user perspective. The number still shrinks when it comes to narrowing down the research focus on users of a specific country or language community. This study investigates user search engine behavior and satisfaction from the perspective of Chinese-speaking users in Malaysia. A survey made among 62 Malaysian Chinese users assesses search engine usage frequency, preferred search engines, and user priorities for search engine selection. It also assesses linguistic aspects such as preferred search language and search engine interface language. The study evaluates the users' satisfaction with the search results in general and the search results on the first page, with the search results of English and Chinese search queries, and the necessity for query rephrasing. Where possible, the study compares the results with existing studies conducted in Malaysia. 1. Introduction Comprehending and assessing user interactions and satisfaction with search engines are important aspects of evaluating information retrieval on the internet. This work represents an investigative study of search engine behavior and satisfaction from the perspective of the users themselves. The target group considered in the test are Chinese-speaking users in Malaysia. The test aims at assessing the specific needs and habits of this language community when using an information retrieval system. Although recent years have shown an emerging approach of analyzing search engine log data or conducting controlled experiments to find out about user interactions, predict search success and searcher satisfaction, the number of user-perspective research of web search behavior and satisfaction that so far exists is still low. The motivation of the study is therefore to investigate how the users evaluate their own information search behavior and judge the quality of their search experience. The study is the first to provide results about graded user search satisfaction on a multi-level scale in different aspects of information retrieval. The analyzed aspects are the user satisfaction with the search results in general, the search results on the first page, and the search results obtained with English and Chinese search queries. It is also the first study to examine graded search interactions, such as the necessity for query rephrasing, and user preferences as to search query language, search engine interface language, and priorities for search engine selection. The study results intend to make a contribution to the evaluation of user search behavior and qualitative search experience obtained by subjective user assessment.

Internet technologies have changed basic journalistic work processes and brought about new modes of producing and consuming news content. As long as major search engines continue to drive a great deal of traffic to news Web sites or remain the primary entry point for many of them, factors such as visibility and high ranking on search engines results pages remain crucially important. This paper examines the issue of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and its implementation on online journalism. According to research (Richmond, 2008), SEO has a significant impact on this field and its knowledge can be a useful tool for journalists whose work appears online. The principal purpose of this article is to outline a framework of suggested practices that can make journalistic work and Internet journalism generally, more effective and contemporary.

ABSTRACT
In a world of concepts and various theories, the natural landscape of a placechanges itself at a speed and in a her own pace – (so, "naturals"). And, at the same time that limits and inhibits, it is transformed into the cultural landscape by omission, reaction, action of humans of that place (and elsewhere), individually or organized in societies of various types, by anthropogenic speeds and rhythms (for so called "no-natural" or "artificial" or "cultural"). With that background, this paper aims to explore and justifiably integrate the concepts of "environment" and "landscape" in a critical approach, in order to apply them to a place that exists (Ilha dos Mineiros), but that does not appear in the statistics of IBGE. A place that is a cultural non-natural island whose identity is strongly anchored on a geographic image.
