Resumen:

    En Chile no se han desarrollado investigaciones sobre la formación del profesorado de Educación Física que consideren el análisis de la matrícula desde la perspectiva de género. Con el propósito de atender esta cuestión, el presente trabajo se ha fijado como objetivo describir, desde la perspectiva de género, el comportamiento de las matrículas femeninas y masculinas en los estudios de Pedagogía en Educación Física en las universidades chilenas, a partir de un enfoque cuantitativo, con diseño no experimental, retrospectivo y de alcance exploratorio-descriptivo, que analizó datos sobre la matrícula en Pedagogía en Educación Física en el periodo comprendido desde el año 2005 hasta 2019; se empleó información de fuentes oficiales de acceso abierto. Los resultados del análisis de las matrículas femeninas muestran un comportamiento que tiende a una disminución sistemática en la elección de las mujeres por esta carrera, lo que presenta una importante brecha negativa de género, que no es concordante con el comportamiento de las carreras del área pedagógica en general, ni con la matrícula de las instituciones de nivel superior. Así, se reporta una clara hegemonía de las matrículas masculinas para las carreras de Pedagogía en Educación Física en Chile.

Abstract:
Chile has not yet conducted studies on physical education teacher training programs which examine enrollment trends for that college major based on a gender approach. is study examines female and male enrollment trends for physical education teacher training programs throughought Chile ́s universities. e study was executed using a quantitative approach with a non- experimental, retrospective and exploratory-descriptive design. Data pertaining to college training programs spanning 2005 to 2109 was used from official open-access sources. Study results of the study, reveal a reduction in the number of women that enroll to become PE Teacher-Training majors, thereby emphasizing a significant gender gap inconsistent with teacher training programs in other disciplines as well as student university enrollment, in general. is is a distinct reflection of the persistence of masculine hegemony in physical education teacher training programs in Chile. This paper is based on a study examining the impact of young people’s backgrounds and educational experiences on career choice capability with the aim of informing education policy. A total of 706 students from secondary schools (Years 9-12) in New South Wales, Australia took part in an online survey. This paper focuses on the differences found between groups on the basis of their educational experiences. Participants who were uncertain of their future career plans were more likely to attend non-selective, non-metropolitan schools and were more likely to hold negative attitudes towards school. Career ‘uncertain’ students were also less likely to be satisfied with the elective subjects offered at their school and reported less access to career education sessions. It is concluded that timely career information and guidance should be provided to students and their families in order to allow them to more meaningfully make use of the resources and opportunities available to them with a view toward converting these into real world benefits.

Understanding the importance of salient factors associated with sustainability challenges that engineers are known to solve in influencing women’s choice of engineering is particularly important in this present world where a combination of these sustainability issues, the underrepresentation of women and the need for more engineers remain a challenge to the profession. However, little is known about the degree of importance of more detailed themes within the social, environmental and economic sustainability pillars in such career decisions. Consequently, the aim of this paper is to understand the relative importance of specific sustainability-themed factors influencing women’s choice of engineering, using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The growing shortage of skills in information communication technology (ICT) is a major concern in Southern Africa and globally. ICT is critical to national development and business success and therefore the need for skills is growing. Yet despite high job availability and high starting salaries in ICT, students are not choosing to study in ICT fields. In this study we look at the Information Systems (IS) major where prior studies have found that misperceptions of the major exist in schools. Yet at university these misperceptions can be addressed. In this inductive and retroductive case study we identify the factors that students consider when changing their major to IS. The perceived value of IS is found to play a major role in students choosing the IS major. Events that trigger the process of changing major to IS include a loss of passion for previous major or difficulty in previous major as well as enjoyment of the introductory IS course. The paper argues for a generic first year for students as well as a focus on enjoyment and skills aligned to IS professional practice in introductory IS courses.

Currently, the younger Japanese generation has to plan their careers amidst
changing economic and social environment. In particular, many believe that
traditional lifetime employment (LE) practice, a defining Japanese employment feature, is undergoing a major change. Personal career choice is strongly shaped by the context (Lent et al., 1994), thus this study aimed to capture how the changing context affects career decision-making and, specifically, entrepreneurial aspirations of this generation. Interviews with twelve Japanese university students were conducted to explore this topic. The data was analysed qualitatively. This study shows that conventional Japanese culture (Hofstede, 2001) and the traditional LE practice still highly affects career choice of this generation. Changing LE did not make entrepreneurship a more attractive career option: young Japanese still prefer organisational employment to entrepreneurship, because they prefer stable and secure employment. However, a new culture also has an impact and changing career aspirations of this generation are observed: young Japanese seek more flexibility and development
in their careers.

An incorrect career choice directs all individual efforts and resources into a wrong direction, when not aligned with the expectations; would not only be frustrating rather draining of the individual energy and wastage of resources. The motivation behind this research study was to investigate the factors that influence the career selection choice of the student and create a possible alignment between their preferences and the institutions curriculum and offerings. The structured questionnaire was distributed among MBA/BBA students enrolled in different universities of Karachi. Data were collected from 120 participants and analyzed using SPSS. Correlation and multiple -regression were applied as statistical tools to test the hypotheses. The results of the study revealed that “interest in the subject” is the most dominant factor influencing career choices of business students f (1,118)= 12.304, p<0.05, R=.307. Financial outcomes, ease of subject and future job opportunities were observed to have minor impact. The interest in the subject is also related and has some linkage with personality type. Mismatch of the personality and lack of interest in the subject is dangerous, and could end up into disastrous results in terms of student dissatisfaction, demotivation, lack of productivity leading to increased dropouts and career failure. The study results are indicative of the importance of students counseling sessions and other interventions to
provide them with updated knowledge, and information to create their interest in the right choices and available options. The career choice of the students is also influenced by the level of their social class, financial resources, affordability and future employability.

In an attempt to start rectifying a lamentable disparity in scholarship, we evince fruitful points of similarity and difference in the ideas of Simone de Beauvoir and Ayn Rand, paying particular attention to their views on long-term projects. Endorsing what might be called an “Ethic of Resolve,” Rand praises those who undertake sustained goal-directed actions such as careers. Beauvoir, however, endorses an “Ethic of Ambiguity” that makes her more skeptical about the prospects of carrying out lifelong projects without deluding oneself. Our study teases apart the strengths and drawbacks of these views.
