Almost all have used smart devicesdespite geographical areas and countries. In detail, it is transparent that trendy smart devices rule the people, especially youngsters all around the world. Smart devices are being used in various domains despite the public of Sri Lanka; higher education is one of them. These smart devices are used for smart communication, sharing course material and knowledge, research purposes, group activities, e-learning, online tutorials, online assessments, and guest talks. This exploratory study approach was conducted to analyze the positive influence of smart devices in higher education among the undergraduates of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. This survey was carried out using a stratified sampling technique. The samples were collected from all the six faculties of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. Two hundred five responses have been collected out of 300 questionnaires. Descriptive statistics test and Chi-square test were applied for the statistical investigation purpose. As a result, most of the undergraduates (93.2%) use mobile phoneslike smart devices in academic activities.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium at 94 kPa has been determined for the binary systems methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether (MTBE) + octane and heptane + octane. Both binary systems deviate slightly from ideal behavior, and neither system presents an azeotrope. The system MTBE + octane behaves like a regular solution. The activity coefficients and boiling points of both binary systems were well correlated with its composition by the Redlich-Kister, Wohl, Wilson, UNIQUAC, NRTL, and Wisniak-Tamir equations.

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 94.00 kPa have been determined for the ternary system 1-hexene + ethyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether + benzene and for its constituent binary system 1-hexene + 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (isooctane), in the temperature range 335 to 360 K. According to the experimental results, the system 1-hexene + 2,2,4-trimethylpentane exhibits ideal behavior. The ternary system exhibits slight positive deviations from ideal behavior, and no azeotrope is present. The VLE data have been correlated with the mole fraction using the Redlich-Kister, Wilson, NRTL, UNIQUAC, and Wisniak-Tamir relations. These models, in addition to UNIFAC, allow good prediction of the VLE properties of the ternary system from those of the pertinent binary systems.

This paper reports on research carried out on data extracted from MexCo (Mexico-Coventry), an ongoing Online Intercultural Exchange (OIE) in its fifth implementation cycle at the time of writing (May 2016). Based on a set of collaborative intercultural tasks that participants engage with through a tailor-made Moodle area, MexCo aims to embed internationalisation into the curriculum of the two institutions involved in order to promote global citizenship competences among both students and staff. This study reports on the corpus-based linguistic analysis of the written asynchronous exchanges in two of the discussion forums in MexCo in academic year 2014-2015. The analysis was carried out by an 'expert student' in collaboration with staff with a focus on the use of pronouns, and three key differences were observed regarding the use of the first person plural pronoun 'we'.

The models allow prediction of the activity coefficients of the ternary system from those of the pertinent binary systems.

In this research, the awareness and the preference of using Virtual Reality (VR) as a medium of Learning in the Emerging Regions in South Asia such as Sri Lanka, was assessed with a randomly selected audience of 250. Currently VR is one of the fastest growing industries globally and application of Virtual Reality in Education and Learning plays a significant role in its growth. Yet in emerging regions such as Sri Lanka, the uses of such technologies are relatively less. The experiment was conducted with 250 volunteers provided with a questionnaire before and after experiencing the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Historic scenery of Chola Dynasty was created with a Virtual tutor where the user was given the complete freedom to navigate in the historic scenery and learn from the virtual tutor. The scenery was designed and developed by considering Human Computer Interaction (HCI) heuristics, Hand-Gestures and realistic audio material in order to provide the learner a realistic and an immersive experience. The results showed that the majority of the school students show a major interest in using VR as a medium of learning and the second highest to show such an interest within the sample were the undergraduates. Even though the majority of the student and undergraduate community have not experienced VR before, this being their first encounter with a VR based application showed positive results. Also having various hand-gestures for the virtual characters used for tutoring showed to be very much effective as demonstrated by the results of the experiment.

According to the last Census of Higher Education, based on MEC (Ministry of Education) 2011 data, there has been in recent years in Brazil a gradual increase on the demand for long distance undergraduate courses (INEP, 2013). The development and democratization of Information Technology and Communication (ITC) have contributed to increase the access to long distance education and teaching mediation, which in the past was represented by the teacher and now is conducted on Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), where Instructional Design is responsible for developing and applying methods, techniques and activities to facilitate learning. One can relate this change in teaching practice with the model proposed by Dewey? This article, through a literature review and a descriptive analysis of the practice of instructional design in distance learning, questions such type of mediation as a factor which favours a more active and dynamic student. Relating pragmatism of John Dewey ́s pragmatic propositions, the progressive education from the beginning of the twentieth century and the current context of long distance learning in Brazil, it was observed that the Instructional Design makes possible the implementation of a more attractive education punctuated with experiences which will raise on the students the interest and curiosity for learning.
