PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE PERSONAL LETTER BELOW:
DEFINITION
 Personal Letter is an informal letter written for an individual. Usually, two people who know
each other well are involved. However, let's explore more deeply about the meaning of this
personal letter.

 Quoted from the English book Class XI Semester 2 it is stated that:


Personal letters are letters you write to people you have already known well or been familar with,
such as family members, friends, classmates or pen friends.
 So, you can write a personal letter to your parents, brother or sister, close friends, friends who
once lived near you, and others.
STRUCTURE OF PERSONAL
LETTER
 • Date = Usually this date is written on the top left. This date indicates when the letter was written.
For example: 12th January 2014
 • Address = This section is the place where you write the letter or the address where the sender
lives. The address is written at the top right. For example: 35 Senggigi Raya Lombok 75009 East
Nusa Tenggara
 • Salutation & Name = This section writes the greeting and the name of the recipient of the letter.
For example: My Dear Lovely Siti, Dear..., Dearest..., Sweetheart, Darling, My love, and others.
 • Introduction = Usually begins with a sentence such as a response to a previous letter or it can be
the beginning of self-introduction if you are just starting correspondence.
 • Body (Content of the Letter) = This section is the content or essence of the letter. On the body.
Here you tell the entire contents of the letter you want to write.
 • Closure = This section serves to close the conversation, which indicates that the letter will end
soon.
 • Complimentary Close = This section is a short closing expression. For example: With love,
Sincerely yours, and others.
 • Signature (Signature) = This section is under the complementary close, you can put your hand or
it can only be your initials.

Structure - Complete sentences are expected.

Personal Letters are used to establish relationships with other people through
writing. Nowadays, with the progress of the times, correspondence is rarely used
in communication because it has been replaced by faster and more sophisticated
communication tools. The use of letters is still widely used in areas that have not
used many electronic communication tools. The structure of a personal letter
includes: the place and date the letter was written, address, greeting and name,
opening, body, closing, closing greeting and signature. The linguistic elements
you learn include familiar expressions commonly used in personal letters, singular
and plural nouns with or without a, the, this, those, my, their, etc., as well as
pronunciation, word stress, intonation, spelling, punctuation, and handwriting.
