Interactivity is a hot topic today and an important medium for people to perceive art. Art has many possibilities for interaction, the impact of different types of interaction on audience’s perception needs to be explored. In this research, three artworks with different interactive forms in the art exhibition “Big Stuff” are used as the object of study. Using the communication theory proposed by Dr. Rungtai Lin and Ms. Sandy Lee, the research uses questionnaires with three levels, the “technical level”, “semantic level” and “effect level” to explore: the cognitive differences based on three different forms of interaction: mechanical interaction, experiential interaction and creative interaction. The research finds that: 1. Different audiences of different genders, ages, educational backgrounds and professions have shown similar differences in the evaluation of the three types of interactive artworks. 2. The audience’s preference for interactive forms cannot determine the audience’s preference for artworks. 3. Experiential interaction has the widest impact, followed by mechanical interaction, and finally, creative interaction, which is consistent with the order of preference of works.

ABSTRACT We study Chinese executive compensation by fully addressing the impact of reference point on executive compensation design from behavioural approach. We find the Chinese executive pay setting is heavily influenced externally by the pay level of their peer groups, internally by the other executives within firms and by their own pay level in the previous period. We also find that the integrated effect of the three reference points on executive pay settings is stronger than for each individual reference point. Therefore, our study provides empirical evidence from the perspective of emerging markets to support the application of reference point theory on executive pay setting. We demonstrate that the behavioural-orientated approach provides a more robust explanation on the determinants of executive compensation in addition to the performance-link.

In recent years, art creation using artificial intelligence (AI) has started to become a mainstream phenomenon. One of the latest applications of AI is to generate visual artwork from natural language descriptions where anyone can interact with it to create thousands of artistic images with minimal effort, which provokes the questions: what is the essence of artistic creation, and who can create art in this era? Considering that, in this study, the theoretical communication framework was adopted to investigate the difference in the interaction with the text-to-image system between artists and nonartists. In this experiment, ten artists and ten nonartists were invited to co-create with Midjourney. Their actions and reflections were recorded, and two sets of generated images were collected for the visual question-answering task, with a painting created by the artist as a reference sample. A total of forty-two subjects with artistic backgrounds participated in the evaluated experiment....

Employing cultural ergonomics concepts to product innovation for cultural education and sustainable development is the target of this study. Atayal culture is famous for its weaving craft and art. The Atayal tribe of Taiwanese aborigines weave on the Atayal loom. Traditional culture is disappearing rapidly due to colonial history and modernization. The Atayal people consider the weaving loom a cultural object when used as a weaving device. This study attempts to transform the ancient Atayal loom into a teaching device and extend Atayal weaving from execution in daily living to cultural experience and cultural heritage development. This study first explores and identifies the meaning of cultural objects and extracts their cultural features. Then, employing cultural ergonomics, a weaving box is redesigned from an ancient part of the loom into a modern weaving box. Finally, the new weaving device is evaluated and discussed. This case study examines a paradigm of how designers interact ...

ABSTRACT The reaction between SiC and Al alloys has been investigated. Composite specimens prepared under vacuum were examined using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Analyzer (EDAX) on both the cross section and the SiC surface. Definite reactions were observed to have occurred at the interface between SiC and Al. EDAX scans across the interface showed that silicon penetrates into the Al alloy matrix. An examination of the surfaces of SiC in contact with Al has revealed a considerable modification in the surface morphology of SiC. Alloy systems investigated include 6061, 2024 and 7075 Al alloys and a series of Al-Cu and Al-Si-Cu genetic alloys. The segregation of alloying elements at the interface has been explained using a ternary Al phase diagram. The fact that there is a significant amount of Si observed at the interface between SiC and Al in the vicinity of the SiC surface supports a physico-chemical model for the interfacial reaction.

MBI - PPD refers to Mindfulness-Based Intervention in Postpartum Depression. This study aimed to develop a Chinese version of the Mindfulness-Based Intervention in Postpartum Depression Parenting Self-Efficacy (MBI-PPD S-E) tool and then test its reliability and validity using Taiwanese mothers of hospitalized neonates. For this, the Perceived Maternal Parenting Self-Efficacy (PMP S-E) questionnaire was first translated into Chinese and then back-translated into English (to ensure translation accuracy). After translation, the MBI-PPD S-E was implemented using an app to help pregnant women relieve symptoms of postpartum depression. Participants: We recruited 300 pregnant and lying-in women in Taiwan. Ethical considerations: This study was approved by the Institutional Review Boards, and the anonymity of participants was respected. For construct validity, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to assess the fit of the PMP S-E measurement model. Specifically, we employed the following fit indices: chi2 test, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), normed fit index (NFI), comparative fit index (CFI), and non-normed fit indices (NNFI). For concurrent validity, the Chinese version of the MBI-PPD S-E for research and treatment of pregnant and lying-in woman 20-item core quality of Self-Efficacy (S-E) questionnaire was used as a criterion measure for S-E. Reliability was evaluated according to internal consistency and test-retest reliability measures. Results: The Chinese version of the MBI-PPD S-E comprised four factors and 20 items and showed good reliability and validity. Conclusions: The MBI-PPD S-E was successfully translated into Chinese. Psychometric results indicated good internal consistency and validity for this newly constructed instrument. To further validate the Chinese MBI-PPD S-E, future studies should conduct additional testing and investigate its application in a number of contexts.

There have been many successful implementations of artistic style transfer technology in recent years. However, as the perception of art is too complex, there is a vast gap between artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and humans, which leads to the failure of style simulation to convey the high-level attributes accurately. This study aims to explore the potential influencing factors in the perception of artistic style transfer and then put forward some suggestions for the application of AI in the art field. Based on art communication theory, the appreciation of art is divided into technical, semantic, and effectiveness levels. In this study, three operation outputs generated by AI, artists, and cooperation with AI and artists were taken as experimental stimuli, and the perceptual distance between humans and algorithms was compared. The results demonstrate a gap between humans and AI in the perception of artistic style. The semantic and effectiveness layers should be critical indi...

Visual data storytelling is a relatively new terminology that has emerged over the last decade. The use of information technology in data visualizing is becoming more common and accessible to users. The artist apply a variety of multimedia, symbols and metaphors to independently create a visual form that expresses data and communicates with real life. The visual data are the media that provide powerful and essential means of communication. If “visual data storytelling” is viewed as a process of communication, it follows naturally that how the artist’s performances are conceived, developed, delivered and received, and how the audience is attracted, accurately understanding the data and affected by the data visualization are worth exploring. Therefore, this study is intended to propose a framework focusing on how the conception of the artist affects the creation process and how the creation process is understood by the audience. The artist’s creation activities were analyzed through the framework of four steps using a case study of turning “big data” into “Chinese painting.” The results showed that the approach could be applied to understanding data visualization and provides artists with an idea of how to concentrate their efforts at the creation stage, the easier to communicate with their audience. In addition, the research framework seems to provide a better way to explore the understanding of how data transforms into art forms, which is clearly worthy of further study.

This study took the cover design of the first ten issues of the Taiwanese design magazine founded in the 1960s, “Industrial Design”, as the research target. The purpose of the study is to examine the similarities and differences between the two sets of publications of Industrial Design and Bauhaus, through which to explore the continuation and blending of Bauhaus visual design in the cultural context of Taiwan after half a century of communication and development. The research results show that Industrial Design has continued Bauhaus’s visual design language in the color application, graphics composition and layout design, while the font style is full of distinct characteristics of the times and region. Through the analysis, it is found that the subjects are more interested in visual design with strong color contrast, rich graphics composition, multiple design techniques and spatial representation. This study aims to explore the influence and spread of the Bauhaus movement in Taiwan’s visual design, hoping to contribute to the construction of Taiwan’s graphic design history and provide it to the design field.

This research examines augmented reality interaction design to mediate the Narrative design concepts found in digital technology world. We will discuss the principles using a Narrative design process to transmit the “people-situation-reasonobject” method and analyze four product examples that provide new thinking for educators engaged in future industry. The “Augmented Reality” can allow the educator to apply this vision in “user-centered design” to connect, assemble, and design to guide the user’s thought and satisfy the users’ product experience. The augmented reality interaction provides story characteristics and semantic ideas transmitted to craft-cultural, collective, cheerful and creative performance. It is more confident and innovative attempt, that is able to achieve a joyful, fundamental interface that assist educators in examining the sensual feelings from dreams to reality.

This study combines the experience economy, customer-based brand equity and service design to explore the essential elements of the creative life industry. Data was collected from a single case study in Taiwan. The findings reveal that both the emotional and rational route should be designed into the realms of experience. First, the realms of experience reflected the main experiences offered by creative life enterprises. The results show that the respondents’ perceptions of the various realms of experience through touchpoints could influence each other. Creative life enterprises should reinforce ways of triggering other experience realms if they want to provide tourists with comprehensive and high-quality experiences. Second, the tourists’ perceptions of the realms of experience and of brand blocks mostly derived from specific touchpoints, such as the herb garden, the herbal remedy pools, the cuisine, the relaxation rooms, the staff, etc. The conclusions that can be drawn are that a...

The Chinese animation ‘Monkey King: Hero is Back’ had remarkable box office success and earned a good reputation for Chinese animated films, indicating a resurgence in Chinese animation, and that the successful marketing strategy is worth exploring. This study uses literature analysis and SWOT analysis to explore this animation’s marketing strategies. The purpose of this research is to: (1) dissect the contents of the marketing strategy of this animation; (2) explore the developing strategies of the sequel to this animation; (3) provide this animation’s developing strategies as reference for the development plan of Chinese animated films. Through SWOT analysis, this study pinpoints the developing strategies for Chinese animation. Firstly, animation designers ought to design the artwork incorporating elements of Chinese traditional culture and animation companies should specially train marketing personnel to promote the marketing model. Secondly, managers should improve the spin-off products, and the country vigorously support the animation industry. Thirdly, the film must meet the psychological needs of consumers and play a part in closing the distance between designers and audiences, and also help consumers choose conveniently. Fourthly, companies ought to introduce relevant personnel to improve the production technologies of animation films. Finally, designers should adopt innovative principles to retain their exquisite market advantages. The marketing ideas and promotion methods of Chinese animation films are still in their infancy and in the future, Chinese animation marketing must follow the principles combining with tradition and innovation.
