In this article we study the genre of virelai in Guillaume de Machaut, maintaining the idiographic manuscript tradition of the well-known author at the center of the analysis. Furthermore, based on the close interconnection between poem and music, it was proposed a new edition of the virelai Douce dame jolie.

The Practica oculorum of Benvenuto Grafeo had good circulation first in Latin, then in the vulgar versions. During the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, five independent translations were done into Catalan (lost version), French, Italian (two versions), and Occitan. Starting from the comparative analysis of editiones principes and the four vulgarizations – for which new editions are in progress – we will investigate the affinities and differences under the cultural and lexicological profile to provide some information on the production environments of the vulgar versions of the Practica.

The present study proposes the edition of the Venetian translation, previously unpublished, of the "Epistola ad alexandrum de dieta servanda" recorded in the manuscripts Krakow, Jagiellonian Library, Ital. Quart. 62, and Naples, National Library, G VIII 67. After a brief introduction, the text is compared with the Latin and Tuscan traditions, and analysed from a linguistic point of view. The edition is based on the Krakow manuscript with the concurrent lessons of the Naples manuscript in note.

The albarello (or alberello) is a glass, terracotta or ceramic container, suitable to contain simple substances, spices, pharmaceutical compounds (elettuari, ointments, etc.) and colors. The etymology is debated. The hypotheses are different: from the lat. ALVEOLUS + -ELLUS, or ALBARUS, or *ALBARIS, etc. A different etymology, from Arabic, will be proposed and discussed here.

In Italian language there are two words, alitta and alipta, derived from the same latin etymon ALIPTA, shaped on gr. ἀλείπτης ‘who anoint’; however, the two terms have different categories and meanings: alitta (f.) ‘mixture of aromatic substances’ and alipta (m.) ‘who anoint’. The story of ‘alipta’ is traced from ancient Greece until contemporary age – through the middle ages – to clarify the passages that have determined the independent origin of the two terms in the Italian language.

In 1947 Josep Vicenç Foix published a collection of seventy sonnets, entitled "Sol, i de dol", that is a synthesis of medieval tradition (Catalan, Occitan, but also Italian) and avant-garde tendencies. In this article it is presented an Italian translation of six sonnets (1, 3, 5, 11, 19 e 40 of "Sol, i del dol"), in which it is recovered the archaic coloring of the texts (when there is) thanks to the use of Italian poetic vocabulary from the Middle Ages.
