Este artigo busca refletir a questão da mediação mercadológica de títulos de leitura literária, traçando uma análise de cunho historiográfico-cultural (BURKE, 2006; CHARTIER, 2002; PESAVENTO, 2004) com o empreendimento de leitura crítica de um corpus formado por informativos publicitários e matérias de revistas on-line. A pesquisa visa pensar o papel da empresa Avon – fabricante e distribuidora de cosméticos, através de folhetos e revendedoras – enquanto mediadora de leitura literária, sendo selecionadora e influenciadora na edição e na
circulação de livros. A pesquisa empreendida e divulgada por meio deste texto pretende apenas discutir, de forma sucinta, como se dão os processos de configuração da leitura enquanto prática social, tendo a empresa como intermediária desse processo.

لايفوتنا كم التلاعب الذي قد يحدث في هذا المجال من بعض الأدعياء مثل نفاذ الطبعة الأولى والثانية والثالثة، دون أن يذكر أحد العدد الحقيقي لكل طبعة هل هو 5000 نسخة مثلا، أم مجرد 500 نسخة فقط، هل هناك توافق حقيقي بين مايقرره النقاد و الأدباء من أهمية رواية ما ، وعدد النسخ المبيعة منه، وعدد إعارات تلك المواد، وهل الذي يقرر أهمية رواية ما هم النقاد أم المكتبة العامة، أم مبيعات الناشرين، وهل من الواجب والمرجح أن الروايات و الكتب الأكثر مبيعا هي الأكثر فائدة للقراء و المستفيدين.
كما تتطرق الورقة إلى ماهية دور المكتبات العامة في هذا الصراع؟ هل هو دور المتفرج الذي يشاهد عن كثب ولكن دون تدخل، أم أنه يجب عليه أن يتدخل، ليس بالمنع ولكن عن طريق زيادة عدد نسخ رواية ما، وتقليل عدد أخرى، وما هي المعايير التي تتبعها المكتبة في ذلك.
في محاولة لوضع تصور للعلاقة بين ما يقرره النقاد من أهمية كتاب، وما يحققه من معدلات إعارة في المكتبات العامة، وما يحققه الناشر من نسب مبيعات لذات الكتاب، تدور هذه الورقة في هذا العالم المثير .

The London based Turkish novelist Elif Shafak’s ‘Forty Rules of Love’ received widespread adulation for preaching a story of platonic love, in an increasingly loveless world, between the much venerated Sufi scholar – Jalal-ud-din Rumi and his mentor – the eccentric dervish Shams Tabriz. The relationship between the two is projected as a representation of the humane version of Islam- Sufism. This version is assumed as the binary opposite of Wahabism which is perceived to desire a fanatic political system based on a selective and parochial interpretation of ‘shariah’ –religious law. The novel attempts to steer clear of this fanaticism, invoking it repeatedly only to establish the desirability of the ‘Sufism’ it establishes it as an alternative. However, a close reading of the novel reveals several contradictions that raise questions on the nature of intervention proposed by the novel. This essay will examine the novel as reifying oriental myths and misogynist tendencies largely with respect to the treatment of women. The novel reverts back to the oriental representations of Arab-Islamic cultures fuelled “by the slant of the Christian West and the Islamic East, which provided an added fantasy in the Orientalist mind – the “othering” of the Muslims. Such orientalist representations of subaltern Muslim women further calcified and institutionalized their subhuman identity and subalternized them to both local patriarchy and their western sisters.” (Hasan 2005)

Los últimos años se reconoce una tendencia en el mercado literario holandés: en las portadas de varios autores y editoriales resuenan los ‘ecos’ del diseño paratextual de la novela De schaduw van de wind (Zafón 2004). Sería interesante investigar si se puede hablar de la existencia de un brand Zafón y, en caso afirmativo, en qué elementos paratextuales consiste el mismo. Para empezar, se han ganado informaciones sobre los paratextos, los brands y el marketing. Luego, se ha analizado – a base de las diferentes clases paratextuales que describe Genette (1987) – un corpus de diecisiete portadas ‘zafonianas’. En el capítulo de las conclusiones se ha resumido el trabajo anterior, dando una respuesta a la pregunta de investigación: ¿en qué consiste el brand Zafón, y en qué sectores del mundo editorial neerlandés se manifiesta?

(The Name of the Rose, from bestseller meta-novel brought to canon, to neo-gothic niche movie) This paper analyses from four different perspectives a notorious and long debated novel, Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose. Comparing it with other meta-novels (Il gioco dell'oca-Snakes and ladders by Eduardo Sanguineti, Rayuela by Julio Cortázar, If on a winter's night a traveler by Calvino and For Isabel. A mandala by Tabucchi), they share some elements (ludic structure of the plot, one of the key symbols, author's weak position and its detachment from fiction), while other characteristics prove The Name of the Rose as part of traditional narrative. If we consider it as a bestseller , the question is if Eco wisely picks and mixes up elements of old recipes, rather than applying a pattern. Regarding it as a new entry in the canon, it is perhaps useful to remember the novel's revolutionary position and to identify those characteristics that have brought it to breach into the list of great literature. Finally, the paper focuses on Jean-Jaques Annaud's free adaptation of the book, in search not of plane differences between hyper and hypo text, but mostly of those elements that turn Annaud's palimpsest into a reductive transposition and even into a betrayal of the original text.
Riassunto: Il presente articolo prende in analisi un testo famoso e lungamente dibattuto dagli studiosi, Il nome della rosa di Umberto Eco, da quattro prospettive diverse. Come meta-romanzo, viene messo in rapporto con altri meta-romanzi (Il gioco dell'oca di Eduardo Sanguineti, Il gioco del mondo di Julio Cortázar, Se una notte d'inverno un viaggiatore di Calvino e Per Isabel. Un mandala di Tabucchi), con cui condivide la struttura ludica della trama, uno dei simboli importanti, la posizione debole dell'autore e il suo distacco dalla finzione, mentre invece se ne discosta per altre caratteristiche che rendono Il nome della rosa una narrazione tradizionale. Come bestseller , sorge la domanda in che misura si può parlare qui di un modello applicato o piuttosto di un ricettario di elementi sapientemente amalgamati da Eco. Come nuovo testo canonico, si tenta di dimostrarne il carattere rivoluzionario e di identificarne quelle caratteristiche che hanno portato il romanzo a fare breccia nel canone. Finalmente, lo studio prende di mira il film di Jean-Jaques Annaud, liberamente tratto da Eco, alla ricerca non tanto delle banali differenze contenutistiche tra ipertesto e ipotesto, quanto alle caratteristiche che rendono il palimpsesto di Annaud una trasposizione cinematografica riduttiva, sennò addirittura un tradimento del testo base. Parole-chiave: canone, bestseller , labirinto, ricezione, trasposizione cinematografica. I. Due di questi testi, quelli di Sanguineti e di Cortazar, hanno in comune l'originale provocazione del lettore di interagire con il libro, anche o soprattutto a livello formale, attraverso le scelte combinatorie di lettura, nonché l'implicita illusione di libertà: l'opera diventa cinetica, variabile; la lettura si confonde con la scrittura del romanzo; il labirinto inghiottisce il lettore e lo rende lector in fabula, partecipe, creatore del proprio romanzo, nella maniera strutturalista fondamentalmente democratica-attraverso combinazioni potenziali di strutture e schemi-propugnata dal gruppo dell'OuLiPo. O artigo descreve a trajetória editorial de Paulo Coelho, mostrando que o sucesso mercadológico do autor não foi imediato, mas sim precedido por várias publicações. Resumo O propósito deste artigo é analisar a repercussão do livro Primavera Si-lenciosa (1962), da bióloga norte-americana Rachel Carson, na imprensa brasileira nas décadas de 1960 e 1970. Ao contrário dessa realidade, o interesse dos adolescentes pelo universo virtual dos games cresce consideravelmente, bem como os produtos que originam-se de suas famosas franquias, como os Best-sellers. O artigo a seguir tem como objetivo refletir sobre a aplicabilidade dos games e dos Best-Sellers como ferramenta de inserção do jovem na literatura. Será abordada brevemente a conceituação e história do surgimento da Literatura de Massa, bem como as diferenças entre a literatura pertencente ao cânone e o Best-Seller. Trataremos das questões de formação de leitores por meio da narratividade dos Jogos Digitais. Em seguida será proposta uma reflexão sobre a aplicabilidade das leituras de massa e dos jogos digitais nas salas de aula, visando aumentar a adesão dos jovens à leitura.

Pero desvía el foco de otra buena parte del libro.

Nos referimos a Juan José Sebreli, con Buenos Aires, vida cotidiana y alienación (1964) y Mar del Plata, el ocio represivo (1970) y Arturo Jauretche, El medio pelo en la sociedad argentina (apuntes para una sociología nacional) (1966) y Manual de zonceras argentinas (1968). Germani, Sebreli y Jauretche hegemonizaron un campo atractivo de debate público y político que llega hasta nuestro presente. Entonces, resulta pertinente preguntarnos: ¿Cómo fue el proceso creativo en cada objeto de análisis? ¿Cuáles fueron sus fuentes y filiaciones intelectuales? ¿Qué relaciones establecieron los tres autores, en términos de sutiles acuerdos y abiertas diferencias? ¿Cuáles fueron sus expectativas políticas? ¿Qué tipo de lecciones podemos sacar hoy?

Esse artigo está dividido em duas partes: na primeira retratamos o mercado de livros no Brasil entre os anos 2000 e 2009 a partir de dados quantitativos gerais; na segunda parte buscamos entender o mercado livreiro brasileiro a partir das listas de livros mais vendidos e discutimos especialmente a questão da presença do autor nacional de ficção.
Nossas conclusões apontam para um momento de inegável crescimento quantitativo do mercado, pujança essa que não está se refletindo em termos de renovação, pois vemos que para grandes tiragens com amplas campanhas de lançamento as editoras, na maior parte do tempo, arriscam pouco, repetindo aqui os best-sellers mundiais da cultura anglo-saxã ou, no caso de autor brasileiro, pessoas públicas já conhecidas
especialmente através da televisão.

Le best-seller peut être pensé autrement que comme un livre symbole de la mondialisation littéraire : il s’agit aussi d’un auteur, inscrit dans une trajectoire transnationale. C’est ce que montre le cas de Yasmina Khadra, auteur algérien de langue française à succès en France (et dans le monde). Le succès croissant de son nom est lié aux investissements financiers de son éditeur, et les qualités intrinsèques de ses textes (notamment la dialectique subtile entre reconnaissance, défamiliarisation et connaissance sur un monde « exotique ») sont indissociables de celles attachées en France à son auteur, perçu comme un informateur authentique et fiable sur l’Algérie et le monde arabo-musulman. Les caractéristiques et la valeur attachée à ses livres doivent en effet être replacés dans une perspective transnationale, et dans les logiques de circulations (production et réception) entre le local et le global, ou plutôt la périphérie et le centre de la République mondiale des lettres : tout en étant un auteur de best-seller mondialisé, Yasmina Khadra peut se percevoir et être perçu (au moins partiellement) comme un grand écrivain algérien. Cette étude s’appuie sur plusieurs bases de données originales, des entretiens semi-directifs avec des écrivains et éditeurs, des analyses d’œuvres (texte et paratexte) et de réception (dossier de presse de l’auteur).
