Dai tempi di Aristotele fino alla prima metà del Novecento, occuparsi di fenomeni culturali, studiare culture passate o esistenti, ricostruirne la storia e analizzarne linguaggi, produzioni e tradizioni ha significato occuparsi esclusivamente di culture umane, e l’uomo è stato considerato l’unico “animale culturale”. Oggi, a poco più di mezzo secolo dall’inizio di quella rivoluzione scientifica che, negli anni Sessanta, condusse alla scoperta dell’esistenza di tradizioni e usi differenziati in varie specie di primati, cetacei e uccelli, anche se l’etologia culturale è disciplina ancora giovanissima, possiamo considerare ampiamente riscontrata l’ipotesi dell’esistenza di culture non umane, e altamente probabile che tutte le specie di mammiferi e uccelli sociali esistenti abbiano sviluppato al proprio interno, da milioni di anni, diverse tradizioni comportamentali e comunicative.1 Sappiamo, altresì, che tali differenziazioni degli usi, tramandate attraverso l’apprendimento sociale in diverse popolazioni di una medesima specie, non sono prerogativa esclusiva di mammiferi e uccelli. Schon Erwin Schrödinger hat sich mit der Frage der Gesetzlichkeit der Natur auseinandergesetzt, wie ein endlicher menschlicher Geist zu einer Formulierung von Gesetzen der Natur gelangen kann, worin der konstruktive Beitrag der menschlichen Subjektivität zu unserem objektiven Bild von der Natur besteht, worin die Relationen zwischen Erkenntnissubjekt und Naturobjekten bestehen, welche uns eine Wirklichkeitserschließung möglich machen. Es fragt sich, wie das Bild von der Natur im Denken des menschlichen Ichs überhaupt entstehen kann und wie die Welt durch die Betrachtung des menschlichen Geistes Bedeutung erlangen kann.

Es lässt sich außerdem mit Erwin Schrödinger fragen, wie natürliche Außenwelt und Bewusstsein aufeinander bezogen sind und in welchem Verhältnis sie aus der Perspektive des menschlichen Denkens und Vorstellens zueinander stehen. Bei der Reflexion dessen lässt sich die Annahme von Moritz Schlick stark machen, dass das philosophisch Geistige in der naturwissenschaftlichen Erkenntnis selbst zu suchen ist. Ebenso kann man sich bei der Reflexion solcher Fragen der Annahme von Karl Raimund Popper anschließen, dass es sich bei den von uns vorgestellten Gesetzen der Natur um vom menschlichen Geist erschaffene Idealisierungen der Welt handelt, welche wir als Fangnetze auswerfen, um den Kosmos einzufangen, wodurch wir versuchen analog zu einem Musikstück die Natur in den Rhythmen ihrer Strukturen zu erfassen.

Ähnlich ließe sich mit Werner Heisenberg vermuten, dass etwa die Quantentheorie sich als bedeutsam für ein umfassendes Weltverständnis erweist, indem sie auf die für diese Welt grundlegenden Strukturen und platonischen Ideen hinweist. Damit muss auch das Verhältnis von Geist und Materie neu bestimmt werden, wobei jemand wie Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker diesbezüglich auf das durch die moderne Physik gewandelte Bild vom Ganzen dieser Wirklichkeit eingegangen ist, indem er versucht hat die Einheit der Natur zu rekonstruieren auf der Grundlage der Auffassung, dass die Quantentheorie als fundamentale Theorie für unsere Naturerkenntnis in der Gegenwart anzusehen ist und damit auch eine Theorie des menschlichen Wissens über die Welt insgesamt darstellt.

Damit stellt Weizsäcker schließlich die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Sein und Wissen überhaupt, wobei die Zeit als Horizont menschlichen Wissens auftrete und die Quantentheorie als eine Logik der Zeitlichkeit die Bedingungen für die Möglichkeit von Wissen angebe und eben dadurch das Sein in seiner naturgesetzlichen Einheit bestimme. Die verschiedenen Erscheinungen der Welt stellen sich dann nach Weizsäcker als zeitliche Erscheinungen des Seienden im Bewusstsein dar. Die Wissenschaft untersuche die Realität in ihrer Vielfalt als Gegenstand des Wissens, welches menschlichen Subjekten zukommt und sich zeitlich entwickelt, wobei die Natur selber eine geschichtliche Bedingung für die Möglichkeit von wissenden Subjekten darstellt und ein philosophisches Bewusstsein die Zeitlichkeit allen Wissens zu bedenken hat.

Jene Geschichtlichkeit der Natur zeigt sich seit jeher im Bereich des Organischen, in welchem die der natürlichen Auslese entspringende evolutionäre Variation und die Unvorhersagbarkeit zukünftiger Phänomene als besonders kennzeichnend in das Blickfeld rücken, wobei sich offenbart, um mit Ernst Mayr zu sprechen, dass das Lebewesen Mensch als sehr unwahrscheinlich erscheinen muss und dennoch dem Planeten Erde mehr oder weniger bloß „passiert“ ist. Jener Mensch untersteht dabei, wie auch Jacques Monod ausgeführt hat, genauso wie alle anderen Lebewesen in der Evolution der Zusammenwirkung von Zufallsereignissen auf der mikroskopischen Ebene und Selektionsbedingungen auf der makroskopischen Ebene.

Somit lässt sich dann auch mit Konrad Lorenz der konsequente Schluss ziehen, dass auch der menschliche Erkenntnisapparat als ein Objekt der Realität mit seinen Denkformen und Anschauungsweisen aus der Auseinandersetzung mit der Umwelt und der Anpassung an ihre Bedingungen hervorgegangen ist. Damit lässt sich auch etwa mit Adolf Portmann der Glaube, dass die Natur den Menschen „entlassen“ haben, durchaus bezweifeln.

So hat dann Rupert Riedl jene „Strategien“ der Evolution aufgedeckt, welche bei der Entwicklung der Komplexität dieser Realität von der materiellen und der organischen Ebene bis hin zur geistigen und soziokulturellen Ebene maßgeblich sind und durch welche sich das Leben organisiert. Dabei zeigt sich nach Riedl, dass der geschichtlichen Ordnung der Natur und der in ihr waltenden Auslese auch die Ordnung des menschlichen Denkens entspringt, wodurch die organische Evolution zur Ausdifferenzierung eines bestimmten Hypothesensystems in uns geführt hat. So zeigt also Riedl, wie sich entlang materieller Gesetzlichkeiten der menschliche Geist entwickelt und differenziert hat und durch die Stammesgeschichte auch das menschliche Vorstellen in seinem Vermögen ausgeformt worden ist.

Nach Weizsäcker zeichnet sich Materie durch die Eigenschaft aus, dass sie möglicher Gegenstand des menschlichen Denkens sein kann. Weizsäcker zufolge hat die moderne Physik philosophisch gesehen das Verdienst, erkannt und wieder der Aufmerksamkeit zugeführt zu haben, dass bezüglich des Seins „überhaupt eine Frage zu stellen“ ist, weshalb das Problem der modernen Physik ein solches der Ontologie wäre. Die Quantenphysik könnte sich nach Weizsäcker als jene „Theorie des überhaupt begrifflich Erkennbaren“ und „allgemeine Wissenschaft des Verstandes“ herausstellen. Die Quantenphysik als „Logik objektivierbarer Erfahrung“ bietet nach Weizsäcker eine neue Herangehensweise an „das Seiende zu verstehen“.

Riedl sieht in der Evolutionsbiologie die Möglichkeit einer objektiven Betrachtung des „Werdens der Vernunft“ im Sinne eines kosmischen Prozesses, indem sie es ermögliche den „stammesgeschichtlichen Grundlagen“ der menschlichen Vernunft nachzugehen, um zu erfahren, für die Bewältigung welcher Art von Lebensaufgaben die menschlichen Anschauungsformen von der Selektion ausgewählt worden sind. So hätten sich nach Riedl auch im Menschen bestimmte „ratiomorphe Anlagen“ ausgebildet, durch welche die Grundstrukturen der Welt gespiegelt werden, wodurch der Erkenntnismechanismus des menschlichen Bewusstseins auf einem angeborenen Lehrmeister beruht. So wendet sich Riedl in seiner „evolutionären Theorie der Erkenntnis“ einer objektiven Beschreibung der „naturgesetzlichen Evolution des Bewusstseins“ zu, wobei die individuell „angeborenen Anschauungsformen“ des menschlichen „Weltbildapparates“ als aposteriorische „Selektionsprodukte“ des genetischen Lernens beschrieben werden.

Weizsäcker empfiehlt ausgehend von der mathematischen Physik der Gegenwart eine Rückbesinnung auf den Kantianismus und den Platonismus und sieht durch das gewandelte Denken der modernen Naturwissenschaft eine idealistische Erkenntnistheorie als bekräftigt an. Riedl sieht ausgehend von der Evolutionsbiologie und durch die Möglichkeit der natürlichen Erklärung menschlichen Denkens eine idealistische Erkenntnistheorie sowie platonistische und kantianische Ansätze als überholt an.

Weizsäcker und Riedl versuchen in ihrem Blick auf die logisch-empiristische Erkenntnis- und Wissenschaftstheorie eines Carnap und eines Popper bei der Besprechung von Fragen nach der Möglichkeit menschlicher und wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis alternative Wege zu gehen, indem Weizsäcker gegenüber den analytisch-empiristischen Zugängen der konventionellen Wissenschaftstheorie einen mehr transzendentalen und holistischen Zugang vorzieht und Riedl im Kontrast zu den „logizistischen“ Zugängen der etablierten Wissenschaftstheorie für einen evolutionären und mehr dynamisch-systemischen Zugang zur philosophischen Diskussion menschlichen und wissenschaftlichen Wissens plädiert.

This article explores the place of the animal and animals in Lacanian psychoanalysis, arguing that the standard accounts of Lacan on the animal, including the influential intervention by Derrida, depend almost exclusively on the Écrits and Lacan's early seminars, overlooking late Lacanian texts and seminars. It starts by examining perplexing instances in Lacan's seminar of " silliness " or " stupidity " – what he himself calls bêtises. The bêtise, which Lacan says plays a critical role in clinical practice, is then treated as the way into a discussion of the place of the animal in Lacan's seminar, and how it changes between early and late seminars. Écrits and the early seminars consistently locate animals in the imaginary while denying them access to the symbolic, a realm exclusive to the human animal at this stage of Lacan's thinking. The article then shows how this earlier work rests heavily on ethology, especially key figures such as Konrad Lorenz and Niko Tinbergen, who disappear entirely from the late Lacan, along with the assumption that animals are caught up purely in the imaginary. If the bees and rats of Seminar XX: Encore do not act as a language-less foil to the desiring human subject, the article asks, what function do they play in the later Lacan? Part of this reading is dedicated to a reassessment of Derrida's account of the animal in Lacan, an account which is often taken to be the final word on the subject.

Der Beitrag rekonstruiert eine der großen Debatten der Tierforschung des 20. Jahrhunderts: die zwischen Konrad Lorenz (1903-1989) und Daniel S. Lehrman (1919-1972) in Bezug auf spezies-typisches Verhalten geführte Auseinandersetzung um den Begriff des Angeborenen. Da nicht unterschiedliche Daten, deren Interpretation oder einzelne Tatsachen Gegenstand des Streits sind, sondern letztlich ganze Forschungsprogramme, wird ein aufwändiges Analyseverfahren nötig. Zunächst wird Lorenz’ Forschungsansatz einer Vergleichenden Verhaltensforschung mit Blick auf seine „methodologische Signatur“ vorgestellt. Dann wird Lehrmans berühmte „Critique of Konrad Lorenz’s Theory of Instinctive Behavior“ in ihren institutionellen und methodologischen Kontext eingebettet und Zug um Zug nachgezeichnet. Damit ist die Bühne bereitet, auf der sich die Auseinandersetzung zweier Denkschulen der Tierforschung in der Mitte der 1950er Jahre rekonstruieren lässt. Dabei spielt nicht nur Lehrmans Doktorvater Theodore C. Schneirla eine wichtige Rolle, sondern auch Lorenz’ Weggefährte Niko Tinbergen. Während Lorenz eine kompromisslose Haltung einnahm, verstand sich Tinbergen als Brückenbauer von der „European ethology“ zur „American psychology“ und entwickelte einen bis heute einflussreichen integrativen Forschungsrahmen, der die unterschiedlichen Interessen der Streitparteien in einer einheitlichen Verhaltensbiologie zu bündeln suchte. In einem Ausblick fragt der Beitrag nach aktuellen Anknüpfungen an die Positionen der Kontrahenten und eröffnet die Perspektive einer vergleichenden Philosophie der Tierforschung.

We now have access to a glut of larger-than-life objects, from candy to pornography to atomic weapons—that gratify these gut instincts with often-dangerous results. Animal biologists coined the term “supernormal stimuli” to describe imitations that appeal to primitive instincts and exert a stronger pull than real things, such as soccer balls that geese prefer over eggs. Evolutionary psychologist Deirdre Barrett applies this concept to the alarming disconnect between human instinct and our created environment, demonstrating how supernormal stimuli are a major cause of today’s most pressing problems, including obesity and war. However, Barrett does more than show how unfettered instincts fuel dangerous excesses. She also reminds us that by exercising self-control we can rein them in, potentially saving ourselves and civilization.

Diese Schrift stellt eine kurze Einführung in das Denken des Mediziners, Wissenschaftlers und Wissenschaftspublizisten Hoimar von Ditfurths (1921 – 1989) dar. Es werden der epistemologische, der ontologische, der ethische, der ökologische sowie der metaphysische Aspekt seines Denkens näher beleuchtet.

Der Text erschien ursprünglich im Jahr 2009 im Grin Verlag. Anlass war der zwanzigste Todestag Hoimar von Ditfurths.

A good part of what fuels the current boom in consciousness studies is the robust progress of cognitive psychology and neuroscience toward reaching consensus explanations of just about anything except consciousness. Despite hopes that empirical research and computational modeling would constrain theory, it seems that scholarly debate has not so much reached an impasse as remained at one reached in the 17th century. Given the massive effort currently invested in research and debate, the lack of progress towards a general (and generally accepted) theory of consciousness begins indeed to make consciousness look like a kind of 21st century Philosopher’s Stone, whose hidden nature seems to hold the key to the greatest mysteries, but continues to elude us. Accordingly, the present volume taps leading researchers and theorists in the study of consciousness and Whitehead scholars to explore an interface between process thinking and the burgeoning field of consciousness studies. In sum, the rationale for such a project has two main facets: first, the state of an educated debate that seems, first, unproductive and peculiarly burdened by its deep modernist origins; and, secondly, marked more by disciplinary rivalry than interdisciplinary synthesis.

Abstract: This article, starting from Konrad Lorenz’s thesis that links human being and dog inside the common destiny og domestication, dwells on the figure of the dog in Kafka. The dog appears to be an ambiguous figure, on the border between animal and humanity, characterized by shame dependence and submission, but that in its silence and in its strength og instincts, is able to pratice desertion and resistance’s from towards huaman domestication.

La migration Sud-Nord constitue un fait social mondial qui impose la nécessité d'une réflexion pouvant cerner les déterminations profondes de la gestion par l'Occident de ce phénomène qui l'affecte prioritairement. Un scannage de la mémoire de l'homme occidental permet de constater, ou de rappeler, que cette dernière est falsifiée, conditionnant ainsi sa « foi » dans une identité monolithique, voire intemporelle, qui elle-même justifie à ses yeux le sentiment d'une possession exclusive de l'espace qu'il habite ainsi que le refus de l'altérité qui constitue et devrait continuer à constituer sa dite identité. Contre cette attitude « altérophobe », « auto-asphyxiante », Il nous paraît nécessaire d'indiquer la nécessité pour l'humanité actuelle d'épouser une conception de l'humain où ce dernier apparaît comme un être qui se construit nécessairement dans le partage, la rencontre, l'échange et la cohabitation des différences. Cette vision de l'humain exige elle-même qu'on divorce d'avec les pensées de l'être, qui favorisent presque toujours l'absolutisation de l'ipséité contre l'altérité, pour adopter l'ethos païen des pensées du devenir qui, perspectivistes, sont essentiellement favorables à la relativisation de soi, à l'accueil du nouveau et du différent. Un tel ethos devrait contribuer à l'actualisation de la mondialisation de l'humain que nous appelons de nos voeux.

Lo scritto cerca di tracciare un percorso speculativo intorno al concetto di “realtà” intesa come Wirklichkeit: a partire dalla sua presenza in uno degli snodi del criticismo kantiano, se ne mostreranno alcune “evoluzioni” che sembrano allo stesso tempo mantenere contatto con lo “spirito kantiano” e allontanarsene definitivamente. Emergerà – in un percorso in cui si tratta ogni volta di rimettere in questione ciò che è wirklich nella Wirklichkeit – come la Wirklichkeit conduce alla tematizzazione di un wirken che sembra essere la sua radice e la soluzione del suo enigma, pur potendo essere inteso di volta in volta in senso più strettamente filosofico (Kant-Hegel), economico-antropomorfo (Marx), biologico-naturalistico (Nietzsche-Susskind-Lorenz). Nobel laureate Niko Tinbergen coined the term ‘supernormal stimulus’ after discovering that birds who lay small, pale blue eggs speckled with grey prefer to sit on larger, bright blue eggs with black polka-dots. He found that he could exaggerate the key qualities of any natural stimulus to produce a stronger reaction yet--be it nurturance, courtship, fear or aggression.
    Animals encounter supernormal stimuli mostly when experimenters build them.  Humans can generate their own and media are awash with them: friendly smiling faces more consistently welcoming than ones own friends, animated cartoon characters with wider eyes than any real child’s, seductive bodies exceeding any proportions found in nature, and a huge array of supernatural menaces.
    This chapter examines film, television, spectator sports, video games, and social websites as well as more traditional media such as print and musical performance in terms of the concept of supernormal stimuli.

The program of evolutionary epistemology, of which Rupert Riedl is one of its main representatives besides Konrad Lorenz and Gerhard Vollmer, is to describe the development of consciousness and human reason as the natural consequence of the principles of evolution. As Konrad Lorenz pointed out, all humans including the natural scientists are also living beings, which owe their properties, including the ability to recognize, to evolution, in the course of which all organisms have dealt with reality and adapted to it.

According to Rupert Riedl, evolutionary epistemology is understood as a theory derived from biology in order to gain understanding of cognitive processes. Evolutionary epistemology seeks to study how knowledge is acquired in organic life, how living beings attain knowledge about the world, and how living beings form a picture of the world. Riedl is concerned with a study of the human cognitive apparatus. He regards human intuition as innate and prior with respect to our individual reason. At the same time, these forms of intuition would also be posterior and inherited products of adaptation and learning of a biological tribe. Thus, they are products of phylogenetic learning, which determine our intuition. They evoke in us a system of fundamental hypotheses, which functions as a ratiomorphic teacher and predetermines our consciousness.

For Riedl and Lorenz, life in itself is a process of knowledge acquisition, through which biological structures reflect and manage their surrounding environment. Riedl’s idea is that the patterns of the order of human thought processes derive from the systematic order of organic nature. The patterns of thinking are thus to be seen as a consequence of a mapping of the patterns of nature and ultimately are also a product of natural selection. After all, human culture as a whole could only be understood as a consequence of evolution. From this point of view, all basic patterns of human thought have emerged only on the basis of patterns of order on the more fundamental material and organic levels.

The evolutionary perspective of Rupert Riedl and others like for instance Konrad Lorenz or Gerhard Vollmer leads to a naturalization of epistemology. This naturalistic point of view implies that we can objectively grasp nature and that an objective understanding of nature is a prerequisite for our understanding of human culture as well. According to this view, study of the “culturomorphic” superstructure is insufficient for gaining understanding of human reason; it is also necessary to consider the “theriomorphic”, viz., animal-organic dispositions which form the basis for the formation of the culturomorphic superstructure and for the formation of human reason as well.

Evolutionary epistemology, in the sense of Riedl, seeks to elucidate the genetic makeup of man’s psychic equipment as well as his cognitive and social capabilities. The causes of the product of the hereditary fixations are to be found in the conditions for adaptation to extrasubjective reality and in the natural history of the human species. Riedl emphasizes the role of hereditary instructions in our human equipment which determine our vision of the world. Thus, our worldview apparatus has developed in real life, so to speak, it initially has been adapted for the purpose of mere survival, rather than world knowledge.

This article aims to revisit neo-instinctivism, socio-biological and behavioral theories
account of human aggression. Humans apparently have a long history of violence. It is
customary in many social psychology textbooks contain chapters on aggression. One of
the explanations about the subject usually has a section on the “instinct theory of
aggression” that usually associated to the ethologist Konrad Lorenz who aims to examine
aggression with a class of biological explanations. Aggressive energy is an instinctual
drive that enhance until it explodes. It may be released by external stimuli. Sociobiological
perspective contributes a more complicated interactionist model for
contemplating the origins of human aggression. Wilson’s ideas combine ethological
studies with other biological factors to explain human aggression and war as a
consequence of the interaction between the cultural environment and genes. In order to
understand human aggression, there are the dichotomies between biology and
environment, nature and nurture, or instincts and learning. It is interesting to point out
that the radical behaviorists Skinner is as much an evolutionist as Konrad Lorenz both of
whom believe the nature of the mechanisms designed by natural selection. The objective
of this study is to describe different definitions and causes of aggression in humans. It is
important to present different explanations of aggression ranging from neo-instinctivism,
socio-biological, and behavioral analysis. In the first part of the paper, after the definition of aggression, it entails a close look to Lorenz’s neo-instintivism approach. The second part focuses on Wilson’s sociobiological idea of the aggression. The third section emphasizes Skinner’s behavioralism. The conclusion gives a summary of all perspectives.

This paper discusses the activity of Konrad Lorenz in the Nazi Party, as well as responses to it after World War II.  It concludes that Lorenz was able to obscure his involvement in the Nazi movement, in large part because or his role in the mythology of science.

A Harvard psychologist explains how our once-helpful instincts get hijacked in our garish modern world. Our instincts—for food, sex, or territorial protection— evolved for life on the savannahs 10,000 years ago, not in today’s world of densely populated cities, technological innovations, and pollution. We now have access to a glut of larger-than-life objects, from candy to pornography to atomic weapons—that gratify these gut instincts with often-dangerous results. Animal biologists coined the term “supernormal stimuli” to describe imitations that appeal to primitive instincts and exert a stronger pull than real things, such as soccer balls that geese prefer over eggs. Il lettore traduce in linguaggio parlato il testo scritto e lo recita mentalmente; i bambini e le persone semplici muovono le labbra nella lettura. Le cose si fanno più complesse quando si legge una lingua straniera, o una scritta in cui compaiano dei numeri. Leggiamo anche i segni di interpunzione senza prestarvi attenzione. È ancora più strano parlare e ascoltare nei sogni: la partecipazione fisica si indebolisce, mentre si libera uno spazio più ampio per la fantasia. was born in 1903 as the son of o distinguished orthopaedic surgeon in Vienna. like Darwin (and perhaps like so many of today's kids). he studied medicine in deference to the wishes of his father and like Darwin, his real love lay elsewhere-In this case. in the study of animal behaviour. But "study" is not how It began. Lorenz spent most of his life in the company of his favourite petsducks. geese, jackdaws, salamanders. fish and many more. Very early in childhood, when the scientific study of animal behaviour, or of anything else for that matter, was for from his mind. Lorenz and his childhood friend and future wife Gretel, took core of their pet ducklings by pretending to be mother ducks by living with them •o complete duck's life" and becoming •most thoroughly familiar with the whole repertoire of all the things o duck con say or do", without knowing that "this was to be called an 'ethogrom' many years later•.

It is widely recognised that biocultural diversity is an important element of world heritage. Until recently, the focus was mainly on biodiversity, but since the 1980s, attention has also been drawn to the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity. Konrad Lorenz suggests that civilisational processes are threatening not only the diversity of Earth’s heritage, but also humanity itself. This study aims at showing the interrelationships between biocultural diversity and the biological and cultural layers of humans. This study draws on Luisa Maffi’s concept of biocultural diversity and Lorenz’s layered concept of humans. The research conducted confirms the existence of mutual de-pendencies between various forms of terrestrial heritage and human layers. It also suggests that strong biocultural diversity positively affects the human condition and, vice versa, the good condition of humans positively affects the quality of the Earth’s diversity. The research leads to the conclusion that research teams analysing civilisational processes cannot be limited only to representatives of natural, technical, economic or legal sciences, but should also include humanists. This will allow a better understanding of the complexity characterising civilisational pro-cesses and find more adequate solutions.

Mit der Untersuchung der -so der Untertitel -»biologischen Wurzel des Erkennens« ist ein Thema angeschlagen, das wie kein anderes unsere Existenz unmittelbar betrifft: in den geistigen Grundlagen ebenso wie in der praktischen Lebensgestaltung; individuell, sozial und ökologisch. 1m »Baum der Erkenntnis« bieten die chilenischen Systembiologen MATURANA und VARELA nicht nur einen übersichtlichen Zugang zum Ergebnis ihrer weltweit wegweisenden Forschungen. In ihm entfaltet sich eine Differenzierung des bisher vorherrschenden, unzulässig vereinfachenden Denkens, die mit einer kopernikanischen Wende verglichen wurde. Das wird vor dem im folgenden herauszuarbeitenden Hintergrund verständlich.

Noch zu wenig bemerkt von der praxisbezogenen Seite der Fachdisziplinen und weniger noch von der breiteren nichtwissenschaftlichen Öffentlichkeit ist unser Weltbild und mit ihm unser Selbstverständnis in Sackgassen und Unwegbarkeiten geraten. Was sich in Unbehagen und in einer zu oft nicht ausreichend seriösen New-Science-Bewegung äußert, ist bisher im strengen Sinne, wissenschaftlich noch nicht schlüssig fundiert. Worum geht es? Mit dem Weiterentwickeln menschlicher Fähigkeit, die Welt zu beeinflussen, hat sich zugleich die Weise gewandelt, dieses Umfeld zu sehen. Die eben erst begonnenen Versuche der Neuorientierung sind in einem zyklischen Prozess einander Voraussetzung und Resultat zugleich; mit dem fachlichen Wissen ändern sich die wissens- und wissenschaftstheoretischen Voraussetzungen und vice versa.
