A koalíciós korszak sajtótörténetéről még nem készült monografikus összefoglalás, miközben a korszak történetéről egyre nagyobb számban jelentek és jelennek meg tanulmányok, kötetek, forráskiadványok. Azonban ezek a feldolgozások is rendre mellőzik a korszak sajtótörténetével vagy sajtópolitikájával kapcsolatos kérdéseket.
Pedig az 1945 után megindult politikai átalakulások nem hagyták érintetlenül a sajtó struktúráját sem. A nyilvánosság feletti kontroll, a sajtóirányításban a döntési pozíciók megszerzése biztosította a lehetőséget először még a Magyar Nemzeti Függetlenségi Front (MNFF) pártjai, majd az idő előrehaladtával egyre inkább a Magyar Kommunista Párt (MKP) részére, hogy a saját politikai elképzelései szerint irányítsa, befolyásolja, tematizálja a közbeszédet. A demokratikus átalakulás ugyanakkor magával hozta az alapvető szabadságjogokról, így a sajtószabadságról szóló diskurzust a politikai élet szereplői között, amely a mindennapi sajtópolitikai döntéshozatalban is éreztette a hatását.
Meglátásom szerint a sajtópolitika nem más, mint a hatalmi helyzetben lévő személyeknek, csoportoknak, intézményeknek a sajtó működésének befolyásolására tett törekvése a sajtójogi, sajtóközigazgatási és a sajtórendészeti eszközök alkalmazásával. A disszertáció célja ezért az, hogy bemutassam az 1944–1949 közötti időszak sajtópolitikában szerepet játszó intézményeket, valamint azokat az eszközöket, amelyekkel ezek az intézmények befolyásolni igyekeztek a sajtót.

ABSTRACT. In the years following the end of the cold
war in 1989, Western feminist scholars and activists
expressed disappointment in the failure of the newly
democratic Eastern and Central European countries to
sustain mainstream women’s rights movements and
achieve a marked increase in women’s participation
within the new political parties and political life in
general. The authors, historians of Hungarian women’s
movements with a broad East-West perspective, offer a
novel explanation for this phenomenon. Following an
outline of the main stages of Hungarian women’s
movements and women’s political participation, they
focus on two instances in twentieth-century Hungarian
history that resulted in a rapid transition from antidemocratic regimes to liberal, parliamentary systems:
the 1918 bourgeois democratic revolution and the
1990 re-introduction of free parliamentary elections.

A marxizmus elméletének mesterei a 19. században azt az álláspontot képviselték, hogy a kommunizmus és a nacionalizmus két, elméletileg egymást kölcsönösen kizáró politikai eszmerendszer. Marx és Engels a nacionalizmusban végső soron a burzsoázia eszközét látta arra, hogy a proletariátus figyelmét elterelje arról az általuk sokkal fundamentálisabbnak felismert törésvonalról, amely a kizsákmányolót és a kizsákmányoltat egymástól elválasztja. Az osztályharcos történelemfelfogás szerint a munkást más nemzethez tartozó munkástársához több kapcsolat kellett hogy fűzze mint saját, nemzeti burzsoáziájához. A 19. században kialakuló kapitalista nemzetállamok minden társadalmi csoportot integrálni akaró "elképzelt közösségeit" (a nemzetről, mint "elképzelt közösségről" lásd: Benedict Anderson: Elképzelt közösségek. Gondolatok a nacionalizmus eredetéről és elterjedéséről. Budapest, 2006.) az osztálykülönbségek horizontálisan metszik keresztbe, egy új, ugyancsak elképzelt közösség lehetőségét hozva létre. Ez az új, másik közösség, a "világ proletárjainak" közössége, amelynek-a Kommunista Kiáltvány óta tudjuk-, "nincs hazája" (Marx-Engels: Kommunista Kiáltvány. Budapest, 1998. 95. old.). Nemzet és osztály a modern kor társadalmainak tehát két nagy, egymást kizáró vonatkoztatási kerete. Mit takar tehát akkor a "szocialista patriotizmus" Magyarországon 1941 és 1953 között? E kérdésnek a megválaszolására tett kísérletet Martin Mevius: A Moszkva ügynökei. A Magyar Kommunista Párt és a szocialista patriotizmus eredete (Agents of Moscow. The Hungarian Communist Party and the Origins of Socialist Patriotism) című könyvében. A szerző a mű első részében a két eszmerendszer egymáshoz való polemikus viszonyát tekinti át. Mevius azonban nem politikai eszmetörténetet ír, bár felhasználja a kérdés ilyen jellegű szakirodalmát is. A kommunizmus nacionalizmushoz való viszonyának elméleti hátterét azonban csupán azért mutatja be, hogy a magyar eset eszmetörténeti kontextusát a teória tükrében vizsgálhassa. A "szocialista patriotizmus" ugyanis nem a kommunista eszmerendszer történetének egy adott pontján megjelenő rendszerszerű politikai filozófia, hanem aktuális köztörténeti változásokhoz igazodni próbáló-s ennek megfelelően ellentmondásos politikai retorika. The article analyses the system of Primary Schools in the Banat region (today Romania) between 1867-1914. The study examines the laws concerning education, the financial background of schools and also the question fo the language of education, and with the help of these it gives new resoults in the question of assimilation in Austo-Hungarian Monarchy.

A tér kolonializációja Egy olyan emlékműről, köztéri szoborról, utcai tereptárgyról szeretnék beszámolni, mely, sejtésem szerint, még azok számára sem túl ismert, akik érdeklődnek az előbbiek iránt. Ez alatt a magyarországi holokauszt és/vagy munkaszolgálatos emlékműveket értem általában illetve a mai Magyarországon a legváratlanabb helyeken és időpontokban előtüremkedő köztéri szobrokat. 1 Mivel a megidézendő tereptárgy elhelyezésének ötlete, kivitelezése és felavatása a létező legnagyobb csendben történt, leginkább azok tudhatnak róla, akik, mint én is, a közelben laknak és akiknek olyan kedves barátaik vannak, akik régóta elmélyült figyelemmel követik és kommentálják a nyolcadik kerületi önkormányzat különböző bizottságainak áldásos tevékenységét. This is the second part of the history of the Hungarian merchant marine in Second World War. Based on many unpublished primary Hungarian German and Soviet sources, it describes the detailed losses and most important engagements of the Hungarian Danube-sea going vessels at the Black Sea.

Sport annually mobilizes millions of people across Europe: as practitioners in a wide variety of competitive, educational, or recreational contexts, and as spectators, who are physically present or following events through the mass media. This book presents original research into modern sport funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Its aim is to examine the distinctive contribution made by this complex phenomenon to the construction of European identities. Attention is focused on sport's social significance, as a set of mass-mediated practices and spectacles giving rise to a network of images, symbols, and discourses. The book seeks to explore, and ultimately to explain, the processes of representation and mediation involved in the sporting construction, and subsequent renegotiation, of local, national, and, increasingly, global identities. It offers a survey of key developments in sporting Europe - from the mid-nineteenth century to the present, and from the Atlantic to the Urals - presenting findings by acknowledged international experts and emerging scholars at the level of individuals, communities, regions, nation-states, and Europe as a whole, in both its geographical and political incarnations. Its focus on representation offers a broadly conceived, and consciously inclusive, approach to issues of 'Europeanness' in modern and contemporary sport.

The article investigates explicit and implicit state language policies in Dualist Hungary (1867-1918), focusing on its eastern, Romanian, Hungarian and German-speaking parts. It presents the regulation and practices, and sets them against the benchmark of the linguistic rights set forth in the 1868 Law of Nationalities Act, the earliest modern, liberal language law on the continent. This document served as a central reference for the contemporaries, an importance also bequeathed on historiographical treatments of the era. The article is divided according to the contemporary domains of the official realm, covered section by section in the law: legislation, counties, the judiciary, church autonomy, state schools, local governments, civil society and government agencies.

A magyar államszervezet történelmi korokon átívelő, legmeghatározóbb vonása kétségkívül parlamentáris jellege volt. Hogy ez a parlamentáris jelleg pontosan mit is takart adott időben, abban ugyan nem feltétlenül mutatkozik egyetértés jogtörténészek, jogászok, történészek és politikatudósok között, ám a magyar parlamentarizmus eszméjének felhajtó- és mozgósító erejét szinte mindenki egyöntetűen elismeri. Jelen tanulmány természetesen nem egy átfogó elemzését kívánja adni a magyar parlament működésmódjának, hanem alapvetően három, egymással összefüggő kérdésre keresi a választ. A magyar parlament kapcsán először is azt vizsgáljuk, hogy az ország ügyeit érintő legfontosabb kérdések eldöntésében részt vett-e és ha igen, akkor milyen formában az Országgyűlés. A tanulmány második kutatási kérdése arra vonatkozik, hogy milyen szabályrendszer határozta meg a parlament lehetőségeit különféle funkcióinak ellátásában. Ennek kapcsán arra fogunk kitérni, hogy vajon a parlament működését milyen mértékben befolyásolta egyrészről az írott jog, illetve másrészről pedig az íratlan szokásjog. A tanulmány harmadik kutatási kérdése pedig az lesz, hogy mely alkotmányos intézmények milyen módon korlátozták a mindenkori magyar parlament mozgásterét.

During the Second World War, Hungary provided asylum to many refugees from other countries. Most of these refugees were Polish, but we also find about a thousand French citizens who escaped from the prison camps of the Third Reich and then arrived in Hungary between 1940 and 1944. Given the fact that there was no state of war between the French and Hungarian states, these refugees (évadés) were not handed over to the German authorities but were interned by the Hungarian Ministry of Defence. Over the years, many different camps have been designated for French internees, but the longest time has been spent in Balatonboglár on the shores of Lake Balaton, where they lived in particularly good conditions. The details of this stay have been published in a number of documents in the past, but the present study seeks to reveal even more precisely with the help of recently discovered new sources the conditions in which the French spent their days in the internment camp in Balatonboglár.

2017-ben egy huszonhárom tanulmányt magában foglaló kötet látta meg a napvilágot az Osiris Kiadó gondozásában. A tematikus fejezetekbe rendezett írásokat elsődlegesen a szer-ző személye köti össze: Erdész Ádámé, a Magyar Nemzeti Levéltár Békés Megyei Levéltára igazgatójáé, a kiadvány az ő 1989 és 2015 között megjelent munkáiból áll össze. Ahogy az elrendezés is sejtetni engedi, bár a tanulmányok jórészt egy-egy külön témát járnak körül, azok között erős kohézió van. A kötet elsősorban azokhoz szól, akik a neves gyomai nyomdász dinasztia, a Kner csa-lád múltja iránt érdeklődnek. Fontos jelezni ugyanakkor, hogy számos más téma is terítékre kerül, nem szólva arról, hogy a-könyvben kétségkívül főszerepet játszó-Kner-históriát olvasva sokrétű megközelítéssel találkozik az olvasó: a helytörténettől a művelődéstörténetig számos aspektus bontakozik ki a háttérben.

I gave this presentation on 3 June, 2014 in Tatabánya at the KPVDSZ Community Centre. The one-day conference under the motto “Tata és
Tatabánya zsidóságának történelmi emlékei/Tata and Tatabánya's Jewish community's historical records” was organized by the Hanna Szenes Hungarian-Israeli Fraternity Association. 2014 was the Hungarian Holocaust Memorial Year. This particular presentation was about the Jewish Labour workers of the Bánhida Power Plant during World War II.

In Hungary, following the World War I, the main basis of the rightist radical movements was the youth, especially the university students. This generation witnessed the defeat in the war, the collapse of the dual Austro-Hungarian Empire and the loss of Hungarian territories. Besides – under the critical social and economical circumstances of the country – they could not continue their studies, and they were unable to find employment. The moral collapse was followed by the Hungarian Soviet Republic between March and August 1919, which further strengthened the animosity of this generation towards the leftist movements and the communism. In 1919/1920, these political and social circumstances generated the right radical mentality and orientation of the university students. After the collapse of the Soviet Republic in August 1919, this youth established the Turul Association which became one of the most important and most considerable among the organizations in Hungary between the two World Wars. The related scientific literature has not examined in detail the history of the Turul yet, although this association had significantly affected the life of the Hungarian universities and the mentality of the succeeding young generations. The primary aim of this book is to present the life and function of the Turul, as well as to show how this association could develop into a country-wide organisation.  The main part of the ideology of this association was constituted by the anti-Semitism, the “Hungarian Imperial Idea”, the revisionism (irredentism), the hostile attitude against the communism, the leftist political movements and the legitimism. The latter arose from the significant and well-known contemporary opinion, that the “liberalism of the Habsburg-policy” had great responsibility for the territorial losses of Hungary. The second main section of this book discusses in detail this ideology and mentality. Beside these aims and questions, the monograph follows the career of some Turul-leaders, too. This is, similarly to those of foregoing, an interesting problem, because in the course of 1930s the Turul-members orientated both to the extreme right (Hungarian Arrow-Cross) movements and to the left political parties.

A Vatikáni Titkos Levéltár (ASV; mai nevén Vatikáni Apostoli Levéltár, AAV) 1881-ben nyitotta meg kapuit a kutatók előtt. Itt találhatóak a püspöki, illetve érseki kinevezések kánoni, információs eljárásának (processus informativus, más néven processus inquisitionis vagy processus canonicus), az ún. püspöki processzusoknak az anyagai, amelyek az egyháztörténet eddig kevéssé kutatott, értékes forrásai. Althann Mihály Frigyest (Michael Friedrich Graf von Althann, Michele Federico Althann) III. (VI.) Károly (1711–1740) 1718. január 4-én tette váci megyéspüspökké. Giorgio Spinola bécsi apostoli nuncius (1713–1720) hamarosan meg is kezdte kánoni vizsgálatát. Keresztlevelének, a szenteléseit, doktorátusait igazoló dokumentumok másolatai a Rota levéltári fondjában találhatóak. XI. Kelemen (Giovanni Francesco Albani, 1700–1721) június 27-én nevezte ki váci püspökké. Ezt követően szentelhették püspökké. Bár 1734-ben bekövetkezett haláláig viselte egyházmegyéje címét, Vácot hosszabb időre el kellett hagynia, hiszen a következő évben bíboros és Nápoly alkirálya lett. Az már egy másik processzusból derül ki, hogy unokaöccsét, Althann Mihály Károlyt 1726. május 1-én a nápolyi királyi palota kápolnájában ő maga szentelte pappá, aki azután később nagybátyját követi majd a váci püspöki székben. The Western-European cooperative models were adopted ingeniously in the East-Central –European countries and were adapted to their specific social and economic contexts in different cooperative types and forms, thus in Hungary and Transylvania, the latter becoming part of Romania since 1918.

Our study presents along different research and methodological hypotheses the development of the country-wide cooperative institutions and their role in the modernization, emphasizing also those regional organizations, as well, which were constituted on the impetus of the central cooperative organs or on the initiative of the ministries and administration. These all aimed the modernization of the economically underdeveloped regions, e.g. the ministerial action (project) for the development of the Transylvanian (Szekler) region between 1902-1918.

We propose that the economic history should take an interdisciplinary approach when it presents the importance of the cooperative movement with its economically rich and geographically well extended, socially very dense network of cooperative, that unfortunately was nationalized after 1945. The reassessment of this great cooperative movement heritage gives us, in 2013, valuable examples of good practice, especially concerning the present CAP inside the European Union and the micro-regional development in Hungary, Romania and Transylvania.

Between the two world wars, the Great Depression made a significant impact on higher education in Hungary. At the  beginning of 1930s, many articles were published in the national and local press about the plans of the government in connection with the handling of the crisis. These rumours were about the “mutilation” of the universities (closing or merging of the faculties, reduction of the estimation). As in the other university towns, substantial social and political protest began in Debrecen against these plans. Besides the parties, the associations and the Calvinist Church, the university students sent a memorandum to the leaders of the University, the town and the government. This paper includes this document of protest and presents the main (historical, judicial and economic) reasons against the “mutilation".

The paper was published in a volume of studies written on the history of the Hungarian Scout Movement between 1910-1948. In the late 19th century the modern urban youth culture was strongly influenced by the romantic idea of the 'Noble Savage'. In the US some new initiations arose, which aimed to offer extracurricular freetime activities for the teenagers, to develop their skills in handicrafts and romantic life in the nature. Ernest Thompson Seton's 'Woodcraft Indians' and Dan Beard's 'Pioneers' used the Native American heritage as an educational tool. Their early experimental youth projects were involved in the newly formed Boy Scouts of America in the 1910's. In Hungary, the Scout Association never acknowledged the Native American topics as an 'official' educational programme - even though many local scout groups followed Seton's Woodcraft Indian way of life in the 1920's and 1930's. Some groups were also influenced by the European Indian Hobbyist Movement. In 1948 the Scout Movement was eliminated by the communist regime. Between 1948-1963 the illegal scout groups often used Native American appearances, to hide their outdoor activities and summer camps as 'playing Indians'. The author summarizes the history of the Indian-Scout Movement in Hungary.

Die Vertreibung der Ungarndeutschen aus dem Komitat Pest nach den Vertreibungs-Namensverzeichnissen

Im Jahre 1947 erschien eine Regierungsverordnung, dass ein Namensverzeichnis mit den Ver- treibenden zusammengestellt werden soll. Diese Liste enthält aber nicht nur diejenigen, die zur Zeit in Ungarn lebten, sondern auch diejenigen, die schon vertrieben oder von Vertreibung befreit waren; so konnte diese für die ungarische Regierung als „Inventar” dienen. Um diese Liste als Quelle für den Prozess der Vertreibung nutzen zu können, muss man diese mit anderen Archivquellen jeder einzelnen Gemeinden vergleichen. In dieser Studie analysiert die Autorin vier Gemeinden: Budaörs, Nagykovácsi, Csobánka und Dunabogdány.
Die Namensverzeichnisse wurden aus verschiedenen Aspekten untersucht. Die Verteilung nach dem Alter der Personen in den Listen zeigt, dass jeder vierten-fünften potenziellen Vertreibender noch Kind war, die Sünde gegen das Land kaum begangen hätten. Unter  den Gründen der Ver- treibung beschäftigte sich die Autorin mit der Volksbund-Mitgliedschaft und mit dem Waffendi- enst in Wehrmacht und SS. Die Konklusion ist, dass diese Gründe bei der Vertreibung nicht ganz dominierend waren. Die Schlussfolgerungen sind mit der Hilfe der Tabellen bewiesen.
Die Studie bekräftigt die in der Fachliteratur schon erwähnte Tatsache, dass die Vertreibung der Ungarndeutschen nach Vermögensverhältnissen durchgeführt wurde. Ausserdem macht die Autorin Aufmerksamkeit darauf, dass der Quellenwert dieser Listen nur sehr vorsichtig behandelt werden darf.

In my study I would like to draft the intellectual, political
atmosphere, in which the Munka-kör (Work-circle), bearing
the stamp of Lajos Kassák, was founded and formulated.
It was a leftist creative community, which through its
numerous branches most impregnated the Hungarian
labour movement at the end of the 1920s and the beginning
of the next decade. Nevertheless, instead of “background”
it seems more correct to talk about a kind of
milieu, a huge political sphere from the left of social democracy
to the most radical fractions and grouplets, namely the
Hungarian versions of Trotskyism and council-communism
(or, according to the terminology of the Communist
Party of Hungary: the “too-leftists”).

This book was written by Leslie Blau (Blau László). It is a translation of the English "Bonyhad: A Destroyed Community" printed by Blau in 1994 (New York, New York). This translation into Hebrew was edited by Reuven Chaim Klein in 2010. It has yet to be published.ג
