Preventive and rescue archeology

In the past few years, there have been several accidents of children falling into abandoned bore wells in India. Abandoned bore wells that have turned into death pits for children. The problem is all over India. Rescue teams spend hours and sometimes days in futile attempts to save these little kids. A lot of money is also spent in these missions. In most cases they are unable to save the kids. Such events have happened umpteen times in the past, and every time either the government or the bureaucracy is blamed. The rescue process to save the child from bore well is a long and complicated process now. The rescue team tries to approach the victim from a parallel well that take about 20-60 hours to dig. This complicated process makes 70% of the rescue operations fail. The design of handling system is made in such a way that the baby/victim never gets hurt and this rescue system is sent through the same well where the victim is felt inside to bring back the victim safe through an autonomous control of drives. Our design constitutes a best Ergonomic Design and performs safest rescue operation

Сведоци смо да се у Србији заштита археолошког наслеђа, а тиме и сама
археологија као дисциплина налази на прекретници. Интензивна изградња уз готово
сталне измене закона који регулише изградњу и форсирање израде планских докумената свих нивоа, са једне стране, те развој прописа и закона који уређују начине спровођења и реализације поступака јавних набавки, са друге стране, стране, стварају ситуацију у којој је досадашњи начин организовања археолошких истраживања неодржив.
Овај процес обавља се у тренутку када сама археологија у Србији не располаже механизмима којима ће се на најбољи начин носити са изазовима археологије на тржишту. У српску археологију још увек није уведена превентивна археологија! Не постоји
јасно установљена стандардизација метода и поступака за планирање и спровођење
археолошких истраживања и неопходних анализа након археолошких истраживања,
не постоји систем контроле квалитета, правила надзора и примопредаје археолошких
истраживања, итд. Због неразумевања археологије уопште, али и услед недостатка
јасно установљених стандарда, археолошка истраживања излазе на тржиште расписивањем тендера, али као додатак грађевинским радовима, дефинисана грађевинским
нормама. На тај начин се археологија као струка и наука не само деградира по више
основа, већ се директно угрожава и заштита археолошког наслеђа.

Abstract: In the Sierra de Carondio is one of the largest megalithic burial grounds in Asturias. It forms a complex of special interest, because it could offer new data about forms of seasonal settlement of megalith builders groups. The construction of a wind farm in this area serves to raise some reflections on Heritage Management and the relationship between Archeology and Society.

The archeological diagnosis wade between November-December 2014 on Targu Jiu beltway, was carried out on a 22 km length (214 sections) east (between Romanesti and Iezureni) and west ( between Romanesti and Slobozia from Targu Jiu ). After the field research 6 new archeological sites were discovered until the present. These sites date back from the Bronze Age time (Glina III and Verbicioara cultures), the Dacia Age (Laténe, centuries II nd – I st b.Chr. ) and Middle Age ( XI th –XIV th centuries). All these discoveries enrich the Gorj county archeological dower and contribute to a better knowing of the material and spiritual life for the antic and medieval communities. Their life was mostly favoured by the natural resources offered by the geographical environment.

The article represents a brief report on the archaeological investigations at the Reformed Church from Iermata Neagră occasioned by the geotechnical study there. The planimetry and the medieval stages of the church survey, as well as the impact of the modern restoration on the church were the research objectives.
It is already known that on the southern side of the church nave fragments of fresco from the second half of the 14th century are still preserved. All this above were clear signs of the existence of certain remains of the medieval church structure, which are less known due to its modification in the course of time, and have been partly identified through the archaeological tests there.

After the first archaeological investigations accomplished in 2005 on
the Andromède ZAC (Commercial Activities Area) in Blagnac (France,
Haute-Garonne), the preventive excavations on the site « Grand
Noble 2 » were carried out during the spring 2006 and allowed the
study, for the first time in the Garonne valley, in the area of Toulouse,
of a protohistorical incineration necropolis. This site is comprised of
ten burials spread over an area of 800 m². The burials are restricted to
a deposit of a single ossuary standing in a small, narrow, round pit
partly filled with the funerary woodshed. The use of a cinerary vase
sealed with a lid is acknowledged in the best preserved deposits. The
absence of unburnt animal offerings should be mentioned as well as
the lack of iron artifacts. The anthropological study made on the best
preserved ossuaries shows the exclusive presence of adult subjects.
The ceramic artifacts show affinities with Old Iron Age I productions.
General characteristics of these burial deposits can be compared with
those from the Aveyron valley (« Camp d'Alba» in Réalville, « Le Tap »
in Négrepelisse), Tarn valley (« Gabor» in Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe)
and from the Low Quercy (“Camp-de-l'Eglise Sud » in Flaujac-
Poujols) also those from around Agen (« La Gravière» in Fauillet,
« Lesparre» and « Les Ribérotes» in Barbaste).

"Methodology and results of the excavations of a Medieval and Modern necropolis during archaeological rescue work around the São João dos Montes church (Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal) The findings are from between the XIVth and XXth centuries, including metal, pottery and other artifacts clearly related with the burials and ossuaries.

In Italy the concept of preventive protection of the archaeological heritage was born after the intense urban transformations that began after the end of the First World War. The post-war reconstructions and the subsequent economic boom led to a rapid transformation of the historical centers.
Only in recent years, lagging behind the rest of Europe, through various laws, the preventive verification of archaeological interest has been regulated in Italy, becoming, at last, a fundamental step in the planning of public works.
The purpose of this work is to deal with the legislative aspects, through the analysis of the laws, as well as the technical ones, providing examples related to the methods of analysis and discussing the significant case studies, in order to provide a practical tool for the understanding and the application of the correct preventive archaeological verification procedures.
The study will begin with the discussion of the very often debated topic of preventive archeology in Italy: the history and the birth of the subject and the legislative sources will be deepened. Then the recent art. 25 (Preventive verification of the archaeological interest), contained in the Legislative Decree 50/2016 (Code of Contracts and Publics Procurement), will be illustrated and commented through the most recent legislative acts and the many MiBACT circulars. Then we will analyse the most used methods and technologies during the preventive verifications.
All these topics will be supported by many case studies and experiences which, as we will see, have been fundamental for the birth of the procedures and standards of investigation
currently in use. The analysis of the main models of preventive archeology in Europe (UK, Greece, France, Germany) strengthened by some examples of interventions in the field, will also allow a comparison with the Italian procedures.
Afterwards, we will deal with the awarding rules about the contracts related to the Cultural Heritage (Legislative Decree 50/2016, Articles 145-151), analysing the common criteria and the specific laws, highlighting the rule about the archaeological excavations and also those introduced by the recent "Regulation on public works contracts on cultural heritage" (Ministerial Decree 154/2017). These will give us the opportunity to integrate the specific topics related to the preventive verification of the archaeological interest.
In the end, it will be offered a general balance on the state of Italian preventive archeology, trying to identify its strengths and weaknesses on the basis of all the arguments previously discussed.

The sites 12, 13 and 14 in Redzikowo, in the area of a road junction in the course of S6 road, have been excavated in connection with planned Słupsk ring road construction. During the excavations, the relics of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age of occupation were registered at all three sites. The supposed peripheral parts of the settlements, with the traces of economic activities,  were found In the collision zone with the planned road. No clear concentrations of objects or dwelling structures were discovered. The pottery style from the sites show correspond to the materials of the Pomeranian Culture and can be broadly dated to a period between the turn of the Bronze and Iron Ages, and the beginning of the older pre-Roman period.

It is examined the possibilities for an institutionally organized exchange of archaeological materials among nations. In particular from the point of view of Italy, a country that can be regarded as a “producer” of such goods. This is a topic that encompasses safeguarding and oversight as much as the circulation of cultural properties, illegal trade, and the organization of museums. As is the case with many discussions involving the administration of cultural properties and activities, the theme crosses disciplinary boundaries: legislation and organization, management of museums and archaeological parks, and the presentation of exhibitions, with reference in particular to the lending of objects. This subject is of evident relevance to the specific relationship between the country of the author and the country of the person to whom this collection of essays is dedicated. Given its vastness and complexity, I make no claim to offer a detailed account of all the open questions, especially in light of continually changing standards of reference on both the national and international levels. For the present purposes it seems most opportune to underline the unique status of archaeology and its material documentation. In this chapter I seek to explore the potential for introducing, and subsequently developing, institutionally organized systems of circulation not explicitly contemplated by the national standards currently in effect.

A área da Praça da Figueira, em Lisboa, tem uma localização periférica face ao perímetro da cidade romana em sentido estrito. Na proximidade, a ocidente, foram detectados os restos de um circus, que de acordo com os dados publicados (SEPÚLVEDA et al., 2002) não poderá ser anterior aos principados de Domiciano ou Trajano. Para NE, na Encosta de Sant´Ana, trabalhos recentes deram a conhecer um caminho secundário com respectivas áreas funerárias, já conhecidas desde meados do séc. XIX. Para sul, nas zonas mais próximas ao Tejo, onde tinham lugar as actividades portuárias, pontuavam officinae de transformação de productos piscícolas. No final do séc.III/início do séc. IV o espaço escavado na praça assumiu um ar de paisagem arruinada, fruto de uma acção “desmonumentalizadora” da necrópole de Olisipo. Ainda assim, a área envolvente à grande via romana que conduzia a Scallabis, e daqui a Emerita e Bracara persistiu temporariamente como área de sepultamento (fase IV): predominando as inumações, praticadas no interior de ataúde em madeira ou em fossa simples aberta no solo, sobrevivem ainda cistas em tijolo destinadas a cremações, pelo menos num caso de tipo bustum. A fase V inicia-se numa etapa indefinida da segunda metade do séc. IV, prolongando-se ao longo do séc. V e seguinte(s ?). Caracteriza-se por uma baixa densidade ocupacional, tendo sido interpretada como equivalente a uma retracção da área suburbana NO da cidade, assumindo a área da Praça da Figueira um perfil periurbano, senão mesmo rural. Numa primeira etapa da investigação, e por questões de conveniência do discurso, a fase V englobou distintas realidades que hoje se podem distinguir. Assim, uma extensa unidade estratigráfica foi identificada na maior parte do espaço intervencionado, provável resultado de uma deposição longa no tempo. A disposição “universal” daquela U.E. e a sua sobreposição a duas importantes entidades integradas na fase V (via romana e um pequeno conjunto edificado) autoriza a distinção entre dois momentos diferenciados, objecto do presente trabalho e que denominámos A e B: no primeiro a via foi alvo de uma última reparação/ repavimentação, bem datada por dois numismas de Arcádio, como se instalou junto a ela uma provável unidade de exploração agrária, de carácer familiar, tendo sido colectados nos contextos de abandono de um dos dos compartimentos exemplares em terra sigillata clara africana D das formas Hayes 67 e 91B e praticado um sepultamento infantil; em B o espaço viário foi desprovido de qualquer estrutura detectada arqueologicamente e praticados três enterramentos de não adultos - dois com idade em torno do nascimento, dispersos e sem qualquer espólio associado - colocados durante o processo de formação da U.E. citada acima, revelando a inexistência de quaisquer evidências de uma preocupação na prática fúnebre, parecendo assumir significado o facto de não terem sido sepultados num espaço de cariz funerário

Dne 14. ledna 2021 by se diplomovaný technik Karel Král dožil sta let. Jeho přání dožít se 21. století se mu bohužel nesplnilo, a tak jeho život, podobně jako archeologická epocha zámečku Hanspaulka, vyplnil větší část minulého století. Protože se moje vzpomínky na přátelství s panem Králem a naše společné archeologické aktivity do značné míry pojí s Muzeem hlavní-ho města Prahy, chci zavzpomínat i na hanspaulský zámeček a jeho archeologické osazenstvo v 80. letech minulého století.
