Semantic Description

During the last decades, digital media have revolutionised media reproduction. The availability of cheap consumer electronic devices that allow the consumption and management of digital multimedia content (eg MP3 players, digital cameras, DV camcorders, smart phones) has caused a media availability explosion. The amount of digital media that has been generated and stored, and which continues to be at an exponential rate, has already become unmanageable without fine-grained computerised support.

The widespread adoption of information and communication technology have promoted an increase dependency of organizations in the performance of their Information Systems. As a result, adequate security procedures to properly manage information security must be established by the organizations, in order to protect their valued or critical resources from accidental or intentional attacks, and ensure their normal activity. A conceptual security framework to manage and audit Information System Security is proposed and discussed. The proposed framework intends to assist organizations firstly to understand what they precisely need to protect assets and what are their weaknesses (vulnerabilities), enabling to perform an adequate security management. Secondly, enabling a security audit framework to support the organization to assess the efficiency of the controls and policy adopted to prevent or mitigate attacks, threats and vulnerabilities, promoted by the advances of new technologies and new Internet-enabled services, that the organizations are subject of. The presented framework is based on a conceptual model approach, which contains the semantic description of the concepts defined in information security domain, based on the ISO/IEC_JCT1 standards.

This article proposes to discuss the general features of the prefix from the point of view of Brazilian linguistic tradition and how the semantic properties of the prefix CO (i.e. co-, com-, con-, cor-, cum-) are presented by studies done so far, which focus mainly European Portuguese. Afterwards, we present the analysis of the enunciative functioning of the verbs sumir (i.e. to disappear, what is not shown, what is not longer here) and consumir (i.e. to consume, to exhaust, to deplete) in Brazilian Portuguese in order to examine the role of the prefix in the uses of consumir when compared to those of sumir. We also analyse the functioning of the verb comer (i.e. to eat, to devour, to consume), whose root com-, by referring to the prefix cum (cum edere > cumedere / comedere > comere > comer) delivers another perspective about the history of this form. The analysis of the uses of consumir and comer does not intend to delimit the role of the prefix CO in BP, but to consider the way it takes part in the semantic variation of these two verbs, which can contribute to the description of its enunciative role in forthcoming research.

This paper explores the potential use of fuzzy logic for semantic music recommendation. We show that a set of affective/emotive, structural and kinaesthetic descriptors can be used to formulate a query which allows the retrieval of intended music. The agent-based approach is an effective one for building middleware interconnecting distributed heterogeneous resources and providing semantic interoperability among them. On the other hand, agents need the semantic Web technologies for flexible yet effective coordination among them with a particular issue of enabling agents to communicate not only about the domain but also about their own abilities, goals, and present and intended actions. This paper describes semantic agent programming language (SAPL)intended to be a core middleware language for the semantic Web. S-APL integrates the semantic description of the domain resources with the semantic prescription of the agents' behaviors. Additionally, S-APL can be used as the content language in the inter-agent communications, both in querying for data and in requesting for action.
