After outlining the establishment of a land tax cadastre in the Czech lands and the subsequent
territorial transformations of Austrian Silesia (including changes in state and administrative borders) affecting the arrangement of the Franciscan Cadastre, the main
focus rests upon the fate of the individual cadastral materials, their preservation and availability today.

The paper’s aim is to outline the problems of survival and availability of cartographic materials of the Austrian land cadastre (also called Franciscan or fixed cadastre) for the Polish part of former Austrian Silesia, i.e. part of Cieszyn Silesia, presently stored in Silesian state archives, museums, and, above all, in archives of different public administration institutions, i.e. district administrative offices and municipal offices. The paper also presents general rules of compilation of such materials as well as their fortunes before they found their way to the above mentioned institutions.

The content of the article is a reminder of the personality of a significant national historian, economist and numismatist František Papoušek (1880-1957) in the context of his merits in the field of administration of museums in Opava. Attention is paid to both his cooperation with the Opava museum institutions as well as to his scientific and research and collecting activities in the field of numismatics. The study also includes a concise description of the personal numismatic collection of F. Papoušek, which is now part of the collections of the Silesian Museum, and has, with regard to its international content, a great importance both for the institution itself and for the needs of scientific researchers.

The aim of this study was to examine the seal of Legnica and Brzeg princes in terms of their symbolic contents. The princes, like the remaining estates, used seals not only because of their professional functions, but also for propaganda purposes. They created their self- image by using these media. This was possible thanks to the presented images, through which they could promote their desired content. They hovered mostly around the ruler and his power, expressing its scope in particular.
The study analyzed the seals  of Legnica and Brzeg Piasts with regard to separated as a result of territorial divisions,  Lubin-Oławska line. The study covered both sigilla of the rulers, as well as princes without their own districts, but derived from the analyzed line. The group also included monuments of  the clergy. Apart from them, the subject of studies has also included princesses' seals, which possessed them because of regency governments  on behalf of minors descendants, holding high offices or ecclesiastical management of various goods. Chronological framework determines the oldest preserved seal belonging to Boleslaw Rogatka, confirmed in use in the years 1242-1245, and the death of the last reigning ruler of the discussed princely lines in 1675. i.e. Jerzy Wilhelm.
The study consists of two parts: the analytical part and catalogue of seal. The narrative part  consists of five chapters. The first one discusses the history of the principality of Legnica and Brzeg during its existence, i.e. from the thirteenth to seventeenth century. Three stages were distinguished for the presentation: the first - the creation of that territory and incorporating it into the Czech crown, the second - a period of territorial transformation in the times of Luxembourg, Podiebradzkis and Jagiellonians , the third - the reign of the Habsburg until 1675. In the second chapter presented different views on the understanding by the researchers of art history and semiotics definition of the symbol. This framework also presents typologies of ideas of seals of princes known from the literature. In the next chapter, by analyzing individual groups of seals (horse riding, hiking, busting, zoomorphic), tries to show the different facets of the princely rule and stemming from the application of each composition, seal symbolic meaning. The princes, in addition to having temporal power sometimes held ecclesiastical offices. Therefore, the fourth part of the considerations is devoted imagini potestatis on throne, busting and coats of arms sigilla of of princes-the clergy. The last chapter deals with the subject of analysis of heraldic ideas found in sigillography of Legnica and Brzeg princes and princesses. The second part of the work is a catalog of the seals, with 193 of their types. Many of them, particularly those coming from the modern period, have a high educational value, because they were not yet known in the literature.

The article aims to analyse the medals and plaquettes from economic-industrial exhibitions organised in the 19th and 1st half of the 20th century in the region of historic Austrian Silesia. They were held in many Silesian towns, among others in Opava, Cieszyn, Jeseník, Krnov, Vidnava, Bielsko and Frýdek, in 1874–1937. Numismatic material created in this context was often in the form of award or a souvenir reminding the event. The article also deals with the circumstances during the organisation of these events which often helps to understand various iconography found on the medals and plaquettes.

The article discusses the medals and coins of the Württemberg-Oels Duke Christian Ulrich I. and his wives minted for their wedding occasions. It recalls the Duke’s four marriages – to Anna Elisabeth of Anhalt-Bernburg, Sibylle Maria of Saxe-Merseburg, Sophie Wilhelmine of East Frisia and Sophie of Mecklenburg-Güstrow and the circumstances of the marriages. It deals with both visual and symbolic aspect of these objects, also introducing the person of the Nuremberg medal maker and master of the mint acting in the service of the Württemberg-Oels rulers – Johann Neidhardt. The aim of this paper is also to describe meaning and function of these works, which served not only as a reminder of these important wedding events to the Silesian Duke, but also fulfilled the role of glorifying the Duchesses, his wives.

The presented article analyses zoomorphic images appearing in the iconography of Silesian Kwartniks, especially with respect to their ideological contents. They were divided into several symbol groups according to their diversity. First are the symbols of power which show in domestic as well as foreign heraldic interpretations. The second group of images is connected with urban symbolism. Within this group, all images of animals bound to different town centres (the so-called speaking symbols) are analysed. The third group consists of religious symbolic motives.

Among remarkable objects deposited in Silesian Museum in Opava depository we can find silver jewellery decorated with coins. This concerns objects that not only should grace, but also protect the owner and represent the social status and fortune of the proprietor symbolically. These jewels infiltrated into folk environment during the second half of the 18th and especially 19th centuries when they were popular as a part of a festive folk costume in different Czech, Moravian and Silesian regions. They belong in a group of coin jewellery widespread in various modifications in Europe and in the Balkans.

The content of the article is a description of the sphragistic system of the duke and bishop Wenceslaus II (1348– 1419) from the Legnica-Brzeg line of Silesian Piasts, especially from the point of view of the iconography and clerical work. All the known duke´s seals were used during the research, those dating back to the reign in Duchy of Legnica and also those dating back to a period of advocating the office of a bishop of Lubusz (1378–1382) and Wroclaw (1382–1417)

The present book Associations in Silesia and their life in the light of preserved artefacts intends to acquaint the general public with the phenomenon of associations and their development on the historical territories of Austrian Silesia (with a few exceptions) from the beginning of the 19th century up to the year 1938. Public associations and their activities remained an integral part in social life of towns and communities of particular geographic areas, which becomes evident from preserved artefacts, works of art and academic writings described in this publication. The book is also designed as a catalogue guide to an exhibition prepared under the same title by the Silesian Museum in 2016. It should serve both as an extended comprehensive guide to the exhibition project, and a report on newly obtained or sporadically quoted material sources. Attention of the authors is rather paid to the collection of various objects of interest connected with the activities of associations rather than to a systematic presentation of individual associations and their history. Concrete associations were chosen, besides the above mentioned time and space delimitation, with regards to whether artefacts relating to the individual types of associations had been preserved and, last but not least, with regards to their present physical state.
