The Ottoman state was a closed society in terms of culture, tradition, and religious life, and
this was also reflected in women. Due to the abundance of sources, the 18th century is more
favorable for the study of Ottoman women's history than previous centuries. In addition, if we
accept the 18th century as the century in which women in the Ottoman state began to change
and transform socially, great differences emerged in terms of both clothing and education until
the 20th century. These differences can be observed in many areas of social life in the
transition from the early to the modern period. This undergraduate thesis aims to show how Ottoman women experienced this change starting from clothing and
what kind of changes occurred in their lives with apparel.

This paper is the first systematic attempt to provide an overview of industrial relations practices at firm level in Mozambique. Through a nationwide survey of firms, the paper assesses the extent to which specific sets of practices are associated with particular regions, and/or sectors, and explores the relationship between IR practice and national institutional realities. The survey revealed that informalism and autocratic managerialism characterize the practice of employment relations. But it would be mistaken to assume a convergence towards a global systematic archetype of low wage/low skill/low security of tenure set of practices. Este artigo se concentra em descrever e explorar as medidas adotadas pela Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa (FCRB) para assegurar a preservação da rara coleção de folhetos de cordel sob a guarda da instituição. A FCRB abriga um dos maiores e mais raro acervo desse gênero na América Latina. Portanto, a preservação e a conservação desta coleção são essenciais para garantir que esse valioso patrimônio cultural permaneça acessível ao público, agora e no futuro. A metodologia deste estudo de caso se baseia em uma pesquisa bibliográfica que combina conceitos e noções aprendidos na disciplina Conservação preventiva: a interface entre edifícios e coleções no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Memória e Acervos, ofertado pela FCRB. Este estudo também explora o trabalho de preservação digital realizado pela Casa, que visa tornar a coleção de folhetos de cordel acessível ao público por meio de plataformas digitais. Informações relevantes sobre o Serviço de Preservação (SEP-FCRB) também foram incluídas no texto; obtidas por meio de entrevista concedida aos autores por Edmar Gonçalves, chefe desse setor que desempenha um papel fundamental na salvaguarda e conservação da coleção. As percepções especializadas do entrevistado oferecem uma visão valiosa das práticas de conservação e preservação implementadas pela FCRB.

This thesis which is named “Color perseption, and the Factors that Change
the Perception In Clothing Design,’’aims to determine the factors that effects the
human perception against colors. To display the role they play, and display the changes
in our senses, we analysed them on a one type dress.
Factors that effects our perception about a colored design, - assuming to be
observed by an healthy eye; are diferent variables such as contrasts of colors, the way
they have been used in the design, lighting conditions and the observation distance.
Before analyzing these variables and constants concepts; we started our work
by examining the definition of perception, how does it works, the percetion of clothing
by people in a perspective of sociable and psychological and the relation of colors
between them. After, in the total of the information we collected an experimental study
was performed.
In the end of this study, we confirmed that even under the same physical
factors, colours effect each other in a way of different density, light or contrast and the
priority depends by the power balance of these three some relation.

The essay focuses on the examination of a selection of children's picture books exploring the relationship between childhood and clothing as an identity element, as a means of transformation and as a resource for the imagination. The gender stereotype has always deprived children of the
freedom to imagine themselves different from the imposed social model. Modern quality literature aims to free childhood from these constraints through stories that encourage the free expression of one's personality. "Clothing and childhood" is one of the binomial in which these themes appear most evident. While developing different plots, each selected book tells a story enriched by several levels of reading, more or less evident, and this is also due to particularly accurate illustrations, capable of adding further nuances to the text. Furthermore, even if characterized by the symbolic presence of clothes, these picture books do not make them the narrative fulcrum. The case studies examined in this essay are a concrete example of the potential of the picture book as a vehicle to transmit complex concepts and stratifications of complementary or parallel meanings that emerge from the dynamic relationship of the text with the image. Each double page opens multiple, free interpretative paths
that can be taken at each reading as the eye catches new aspects and the thought opens up to new discoveries. The imaginary dress is one of the many parallel paths that it was possible to explore with these books to explore the possible interpretations of clothing in children's literature, highlighting above all how much garments are objects charged with metasignification or with projections of an identity in formation such as the one of children. In the traditional children's literature, directly or
indirectly, the theme of identity is strongly linked to clothes like in the Emperor's new clothes, where wearing or removing a dress symbolizes a social role, a personality, a state of mind, a defeat or a victory. It is an indispensable part of oneself. A self-projection. The modern children’s literary production tries to free the children from the yoke of the role and stereotypes, encouraging them to explore and interpret reality through the most familiar items around them: what they wear or what adults around them wear. The case studies in the essay prove how clothing becomes a symbol of a journey of self-discovery and affirmation of one's individuality in the world.

A investigação revela caminhos recentes em que a construção, atualização, usos e funções da documentação figura-se como potencial de fonte de reflexão para o campo museológico, uma vez que colabora para as diferentes estratégias de comunicação dos museus e abre caminhos de diálogo com os diversos agentes sociais.

This paper addresses the immediate impacts of the China-Africa trade on Africa’s informal traders and its longer term impact on urban poverty, based on a comparison of the major cities of two West African countries and drawing on semi-structured interviews with traders and on schedule-based interviews with key informants in government, business and the informal trade sector. Findings are that the increase in imports from China initially broadened access to trading for the poor, creating short-term improvements in livelihoods, but competition is driving down profit margins and restricting the trade to a survival mechanism for many today. Thus it has provided limited long-term potential as an economic platform for national development and poverty reduction. The findings are discussed in terms of structuration theory and in terms of alternative conceptualizations of informal trade in Africa.

À partir du constat d'une certaine cécité de la théorie politique contemporaine vis-à-vis de la question des pratiques vestimentaires, nous voudrions proposer quelques pistes pour souligner le caractère indissociable du vêtement et de la résistance au pouvoir. Ainsi, en rappelant tout d'abord que les acteurs en révolte ne sont pas que des corps abstraits, mais que les habits qu'ils revêtent participent de la subversion des rapports de force sédimentés dans les institutions, nous insisterons sur la nécessaire prise en compte de la matérialité de la contestation. Puis, dans un second temps, nous montrerons que la théorie queer, et surtout queer crip, à travers les notions de « visibilité radicale » et de désidentification, place dans une perspective intersectionnelle les enjeux vestimentaires au cœur d'une démarche de perturbation des normes identitaires adossées à des idéaux binaires et validistes. Plus précisément, en analysant le projet artistique et militant de Sky Cubacub, styliste à l'origine de Rebirth Garments, nous verrons que le principe même de performance genderfuck, qui vise à brouiller publiquement les frontières entre les genres à des fins de déstabilisation politique, fait du refus d'être identifié un acte émancipateur.

This article examines how clothes and clothing served Byzantine diplomacy and peacemaking. At first glance, it is obvious that they play an important role in this framework, notably as gifts and/or as material and symbolic ways to exhibit imperial superiority. What has been called the ‘silken diplomacy’ illustrates it. The use of luxurious clothes was clearly a major means in displays of official power and may even be taken for a part of Byzantium’s soft power. However
during the Long Twelfth Century one can find examples which demonstrate that this role of clothes is not to be overestimated. On the contrary, within the context of tensions between the Byzantines and their Western neighbours and partners some oppositions between them can focus on garments. The latter may be criticized in their various uses – be it for their form, colour or the way they are worn… As such they both cause and reveal oppositions and cultural differences that curb their function as peacemaking media during this period.

Bu çalışmada, Osmanlı döneminde yaşamış Antalya halkının giyim-kuşam özellikleri incelenmiştir. Antalya şer‘iyye sicillerinde yer alan tereke kayıtlarının temel kaynak olarak kullanıldığı bu çalışma, 1809-1924 yıllarını kapsamaktadır. Ancak, şer‘iyye sicillerinde, 19. yüzyılın ilk yarısına ait az sayıda tereke kaydı bulunmaktadır ve bunlar genellikle Antalya’ya hac veya ticaret gibi nedenlerle yolu düşmüş kişilere aittir. Bundan dolayı, Antalya giyim-kuşamı hakkında doyurucu bilgilere 1850-1860’lı yıllardan itibaren ulaşılabilmiştir.
Çalışmada, baştan ayağa kadar giyilen veya takılan yüz otuz farklı giyim-kuşam malzemesi tespit edilmiştir. Bu giyim-kuşam eşyalarının neredeyse tamamı, Antalyalı Müslim ve Gayrimüslimlerin ortak giyim malzemelerindendir. Müslim ve Gayrimüslimlerin giyim-kuşamının yalnızca haç, muska veya sarık gibi dinî aidiyeti simgeleyen öğelerde ayrıştığı görülmektedir. Bunun yanı sıra, meslekî faaliyetlerin, giyim-kuşam alanındaki ayrışmalarda, dinî mensubiyetten daha etkili olduğu göze çarpmaktadır. Antalya kent merkezinde ikamet eden Müslim ve Gayrimüslim iki erkek memurun, biri Antalya şehrinde diğeri Antalya taşrasında yaşayan, farklı meslek dallarına mensup iki erkek Müslümandan daha benzer şekilde giyindiği söylenebilir.

Three different innovative composition of nylon-cloth (NC), J-cloth (JC) and glass fiber (GF) were examined as separators in a tubular separator electrode assembly MFCs (SEA-MFCs) with a graphite granule bed anode and a simple carbon-cloth cathode. Three experiments were designed including horizontal MFC with co-current and counter-current inflows of anolyte and catholyte as well as vertical MFC with up-flow and co-current inflows to the MFC. The arrangement of NC-JC-GF was more effective with higher maximum power density (281.30 ± 32.31 mW/m 2) and lower internal resistance (562.09 U) compared to the other compositions. The power density was more improved as the hydraulic retention time (HRT) was decreased. The counter-current flow caused by higher species diffusion between the anode and cathode compartments compared to the co-current flow, so diminished the maximum power density significantly (270.60 ± 29.53 to 70.48 ± 5.65 mW/m 2) and increased the internal resistance (614.71e1711.59 U). On the other hand, the horizontal operation showed better performance than the up-flow MFC.
