Modern Age

The following study presents the results of the archaeological work carried out in 2008 on a building site located in Carnide (Lisbon). During the excavations, archaeological remains dating between the Chalcolithic period and the Modern Age were identified. Wall foundations and ground remains, which were overlapped with a negative structure on a circular shape, were found; this structure was occupied with a layer containing medieval and modern ceramic materials. This negative circular structure should correspond to an occupation that happened before the Middle Ages. A limestone votive artefact (Chalcolithic), an opus signinum fragment (Roman Ages) and a medieval ceitil coin (15th century) were also discovered during the excavation period.

Nakon kraćega prikaza stratigrafije lokaliteta, izdvaja se horizont novovjekovnih grobova. Opisuju se bogatiji grobovi, te se pojedini nalazi analiziraju i interpretiraju. Na temelju analize odabranih nalaza i njihove interpretacije, nalazi se, a time i grobovi, kronološki smještaju uglavnom u početak 18. st. Pritom se koriste i podaci iz pisanih izvora: kanonskih vizitacija, matične knjige umrlih te župne spomenice. Problematizira se tumačenje novovjekovnih nalaza i potreba multidisciplinarnoga pristupa. U radu se posebna pozornost obratila osobitoj krunici iz groba 60, na kojoj su među zrnima visjeli i privjesci - simboli arma Christi. /
Following a brief presentation of the site stratigraphy, a horizon of postmediaeval graves is singled out. Richer graves are described and specifi c fi nds are analyzed and interpreted. Based on the analysis of the chosen fi nds and their interpretation, the fi nds, and thus also the graves, are chronologically attributed mostly into the beginning of the 18th century. Data are used from written sources in the process: canonical visitations, register of the dead and parochial memorials. The interpretation of Modern Age fi nds and the need for a multidisciplinary approach are discussed. Particular attention was given in the paper to a singular rosary from grave 60, on which, among the beads also hung pendants – the arma Christi symbols.

This contribution focuses on the expansion and development of one of Bratislava's suburbs (Podhradie), in its western section along a long-distance route leading from Bratislava to Karlova Ves, Devín and further on to Vienna. Building horizons of the emerging Zuckermandel quarter were identified on the basis of archaeological research in 2007, 2013 and 2014; this study discusses the first two phases. In parallel, the research results are placed in context with previous investigations of Podhradie, especially from the period of its demolition in the 1960s and 1970s.

La 'fabula' di Piramo e Tisbe ("Metam.", IV, 55–166) è stata, attraverso i secoli, al centro di una nutrita serie di rielaborazioni, riscritture e transcodificazioni di varia natura che hanno evidenziato e, per così dire, celebrato secondo diversificate modalità l’eterna universalità del suo 'pattern' narrativo e della sua “sostanza” antropologica.
Il presente volume analizza e scandaglia la complessa e stratificata ricezione dell’episodio ovidiano entro la letteratura e la cultura italiana tra Medioevo e Età moderna.
Cantari, volgarizzamenti, novelle, poemetti, favole pastorali, tragedie e melodrammi costituiscono i principali tasselli di un affascinante e caleidoscopico viaggio storico-letterario che mostra 'ad abundantiam' l’estrema vitalità del mito dei due giovinetti babilonesi e chiarisce, grazie alla verifica degli “scarti” intertestuali rispetto all’ipotesto, come le multiple riformulazioni del 'récit' ovidiano (capace di ridisegnare continuamente la propria identità e il proprio destino aderendo ai terreni culturali e spirituali più disparati) riflettano e manifestino di volta in volta istanze e funzioni molto differenti tra loro, variamente connesse alle 'intentiones auctoris' e ai contesti storico-sociali di riferimento, in un infinito gioco metamorfico di forme e idee, immagini e significati.

For its 8º centunary the Junta de Freguesia do Souto da Carpalhosa (Town Council of Souto da Carpalhosa) promoted a series of archaeological, historical and etnographic researches, resulting in the publication of a monograph study: Souto da Carpalhosa – Oito Séculos de História. Among the results, a necropolis near the town’s church would reveal proof of settling dating back to the second half of the XVI century. Pre-historical artifacts also came to light, as well as evidence of vanished farms and villages. An inventory of the remaining traditional houses and economic means in the region, such as mills and presses, was also conducted, revealing long gone traditions, livelihoods and ways of life.

The paper analyses M. Seel’s aesthetic theory in connection with the problem of the content of aesthetic experience and the tendencies for its reexamination in contemporary aesthetics. We demonstrate that Seel’s „aesthetics of appearing“, being an important aesthetic study of the recent years, makes a substantial contribution to aesthetic theory as it expands the content of aesthetic experience and reveals its independence from the domain of art. The comprehension of aesthetic perception as a special attitude of perception, potentially applicable to any content accessible for sensual perception, is understood as the pivotal moment of Seel’s aesthetics. However, we conclude that the formula that Seel puts in practice to outline the mode of aesthetic experience – that it is the perception of anything in the process of its appearing for the sake of this appearing – proves to be seriously narrowing the content of aesthetic experience. As the mode of a radical focus on the perceived phenomena and initiation of the potentially infinite play of appearances, aesthetic experience, as described by Seel, proves to be closed on itself and self-sufficient. In this regard, analysing Seel’s aesthetic conception, we address the cultural and historical context, where aesthetic experience has emerged as a special register of experience. It is demonstrated that aesthetic experience as such has become possible in the Modern Age due to the formation of the truth of subjective perception and the shaping of the problem of the Other. It is this problematic state of the possible encounter with the Other that should be reckoned a principal trait of the Modern Age outlook, implicitly provoking the response of aesthetic experience. In this regard, we conclude that the essential characteristic of an aesthetic experience should presuppose both the immersion in the liberated and potentially infinite interplay of appearances and multifarious – potentially infinite – acts of search for the Other, so that both of these aspects appear to be inextricably linked.

Resumen: el presente trabajo pretende mostrar la evolución de la construcción de la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela desde la aparición del supuesto sepulcro perteneciente al apóstol Santiago, hasta la que para nosotros fue su etapa de máximo esplendor, el elegante período barroco. Nuestro escrito está encaminado a explicar las ideas fundamentales para comprender la fase histórica a la que aludimos en cada uno de nuestros apartados. Para finalizar, nos hemos centrado en una de las últimas etapas de su evolución arquitectónica. Para ello hemos tenido en cuenta aquellos factores fundamentales para llegar a la comprensión y visualización de la basílica que ha llegado hasta nuestros días. Una evolución fruto de numerosos cambios sociales, económicos y sobre todo artísticos que se fueron sucediendo a lo largo de toda la historia.

Den Kontext dieser Arbeit bildet die Säkularisierungsdebatte der 1960er Jahre in Deutschland, genauer das sogenannte „Säkularisierungstheorem“, demzufolge viele als originell neuzeitlich geltende, das moderne Selbstverständnis prägende Inhalte und Konzepte tatsächlich säkularisierte christliche sind. Das Thema dieser Arbeit ist Hans Blumenbergs Kritik am Säkularisierungstheorem, die dieser im ersten Teil seiner Legitimität der Neuzeit vortrug und in welchem er sich insbesondere mit den Theorien Löwiths, Gadamers, Kosellecks und Schmitts befasst. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, 1/ ein geistesgeschichtliches Panorama der Säkularisierungsdebatte zu entwerfen, unter Berücksichtigung der Begriffsgeschichte von „Säkularisierung“ sowie des Gebrauchs der Kategorie Säkularisierung in verschiedenen Kontexten, 2/ eine konzise Darstellung der philosophischen Position Hans Blumenbergs in der Debatte sowie der Grundprinzipien einer Phänomenologie der Geschichte zu geben, 3/ eine Analyse der Argumente Blumenbergs unter rhetorischen Gesichtspunkten zu skizzieren. Die Methodologie der Arbeit ist a) geistesgeschichtlich: die jeweiligen Positionen und Argumente der Protagonisten werden als Beitrag zu einer größeren Debatte und als solche immer in ihrem Kontext betrachtet, wobei eine dynamische Darstellung der Grundgedanken und philosophischen Kernthesen der Autoren angestrebt wird; b) hermeneutisch: die Kernthesen der Geschichtsphilosophie Blumenbergs sowie die Grundlagen und Voraussetzungen der Theorien seiner Kontrahenten werden erschlossen; c) argumentationstheoretisch: der Standpunkt, von dem aus Blumenberg seine Thesen zur Geschichte formuliert sowie die Taktik, derer er sich in der Konfrontation bedient, werden untersucht.

Gospostvo z gradom Hrastovec pri Lenartu je bilo v posesti izvorno štajerske plemiške rodbine Herberstein v dveh obdobjih, med letoma 1482 in 1802 ter med letoma 1909 in 1945. Prispevek natančneje obravnava njihovo prvo lastniško obdobje. Čeprav je glavna hrastovška veja Herbersteinov izumrla šele leta 1813, se je moral njen član, grof Karel Friderik gospostvu zaradi ogromnih dolgov oziroma bankrota leta 1715 prisilno odpovedati. Kljub temu je ostalo v rokah Herbersteinov, saj ga je kupil grof Janez Ernest iz mlajše stranske veje glavne veje na Herbersteinu. Po izumrtju te stranske veje je Hrastovec leta 1792 pripadel grofu Janezu Antonu iz starejše stranske veje omenjene glavne veje. Ta ga je leta 1802 prodal Pauerjem.

Fue don Íñigo López de Mendoza, el II conde de Tendilla, uno de los miembros más destacados de la alta nobleza castellana en los albores de la Edad Moderna. Sus cargos como primer capitán General del Reino de Granada y alcaide de la principal de sus fortalezas, la Alhambra, propiciaron el que manejase mucha información, parte de la cual ha llegado hasta nuestros días a través de los registros epistolares que de las misivas que envió se generaron en la cancillería alhambreña. Presentamos en este volumen la transcripción del más antiguo de los registros epistolares del conde, conocidos hasta el momento. Aquel generado con la correspondencia que envió desde Granada entre el 5 de febrero y el 23 de marzo de 1497, manuscrito que se conserva entre los fondos toledanos de la Sección Nobleza del Archivo Histórico Nacional. Acompaña a la transcripción del epistolario una breve semblanza sobre el personaje y y un estudio preliminar sobre el cartulario.

The objective of this Bachelor Thesis is the historical, social and economic research of development in the village Prejta, located in the district of Ilava, from the first written record from 1379 to the end of the eighteenth century. This work in details analyzes the first written record and uses all available sources from the period, in which the village Prejta was the part of Trenčín castle estate. When the Ilava´s castle estate was created in 1446, the village Prejta was incorporated under the Ilava´s castle until the dissolution of feudalism in Hungary and the whole time it was the largest village of the estate. Based on the collected urbariums from modern times given work overview of the population development, its language and economic developent of the municipality.

Founded in 2017, the Mejdani Journal on Religious, Philosophical and Scientific Thought is a quarterly publication of the GNOSA Foundation for the Culture and Science in Tetovo, Macedonia (www.gnosa.mk).

The main goal of the Mejdani journal has been to present the depth and diversity of Islamic intellectual thought, by publishing scientific papers and studies from different authors in the field of human sciences, with special emphasis on religion, philosophy, history, mysticism, sociology, philosophy of science etc. The Mejdani journal was conceived neither as a strictly academical journal aimed at expert scholars of the fields mentioned above, nor as a magazine aimed at the general populace, with short articles and superficial information. Rather it takes a middle position between the two and is aimed at the general educated class of the old and new generation, particularly individuals who would like to have a deeper insight into what Islamic thought has to offer. Despite occasionally having some articles which require prior knowledge of a certain field, the general approach has been to make Islamic wisdom accessible for this spectrum of the audience.

Apart from original articles written in Albanian, the journal has mostly featured translated articles from foreign languages, particularly English, Turkish, Bosnian and German, which have been meticulously translated, edited and proofread, in order to offer texts of highest quality. /

E themeluar në vitin 2017, revista Mejdani mbi mendimin fetar, filozofik dhe shkencor, është botim periodik i Fondacionit për Kulturë dhe Shkencë GNOSA në Tetovë, Maqedoni (www.gnosa.mk).

Qëllimi kryesor i revistës Mejdani ka qenë paraqitja e thellësisë dhe shumëllojshmërisë së mendimit intelektual islam, duke botuar punime shkencore dhe studime nga autorë të ndryshëm në fushën e shkencave humane, me theks të veçantë mbi fenë, filozofinë, historinë, misticizmin, sociologjinë, filozofinë e shkencës etj. Revista Mejdani nuk është konceptuar as si një revistë rreptësisht akademike që u drejtohet ekspertëve të fushave të sipërpërmendura dhe as si një fletushkë që u drejtohet shtresave të gjera të popullsisë. Mejdani ndodhet në një pozitë të ndërmjetme dhe i drejtohet kryesisht shtresës së arsimuar nga gjenerata e re dhe e vjetër, e në veçanti individëve që kanë dëshirë të fitojnë njohuri më të thella lidhur me mendimin intelektual dhe shpirtëror islam.
Krahas artikujve autorialë në shqip, revista Mejdani ka botuar kryesisht artikuj të përkthyer nga gjuhë të huaja, veçanërisht nga anglishtja, turqishtja, boshnjakishtja dhe gjermanishtja. Këta artikuj janë përkthyer dhe redaktuar me kujdes të veçantë, për t’i ofruar lexuesit tekste të një cilësie të lartë gjuhësore.

La práctica de la confesión auricular representó uno de los instrumentos más relevantes de la acción de disciplinamiento social ejercida por la Iglesia católica a lo largo de la Edad Moderna. A través del análisis de algunos manuales de confesores de los siglos XVI y XVII, este artículo se propone un doble objetivo: por un lado poner de relieve la importancia de dichos manuales para la formación del clero, por otro ofrecer una visión general del papel que los confesores tuvieron a la hora de disciplinar las conductas sociales e individuales de los fieles.

The practice of auricular confession represented one of the most relevant instrument of the action of social disciplining exercised by Catholic Church during the Modern Age. Through the analysis of some confessors’ manuals of the XVI and XVII centuries, this article suggests a dual purpose: on the one hand to highlight the importance of those manuals for the education of clergy, on the other hand to provide an
overview of the role that the confessors had in disciplining the social and individual behaviour of the faithful.

Este artigo tem como objetivo contribuir para o melhor conhecimento das estruturas eclesiásticas e inquisitoriais no mundo português, sobretudo na América. O foco dessa investigação é perceber a relação estabelecida entre os tribunais eclesiástico e inquisitorial, com o fito de demonstrar alguns aspectos dessa colaboração nos mais diferentes lugares e tempos, além de suas particularidades. Para isso, analisamos seus regimentos e os colocamos em relação com os diferentes casos e processos a fim de perceber com mais afinco as idiossincrasias de cada tribunal.

This article aims to contribute to a better knowledge of ecclesiastical and inquisitorial structures in the Portuguese world, especially in the America. The focus of this research is to understand the relationship between the ecclesiastical and
inquisitorial tribunals, with a view to demonstrating some  spects of collaboration in many different places and times, in addition to its peculiarities. For this, we analyze their Regiments and put them in relation with the different cases and processes in order to perceive the harder the idiosyncrasies of each Court.

This archaeological research would reveal none archaeological structers. Nevertheless, some stratigraphic levels would discloser several ceramic fragments, consistent with the ancient pottery nature of the neighbourhood in which this building is found. Many of the ceramic fragments were consistent with common ceramic containers and cooking pottery, one of which with a logo stamp. Lead glazed pottery was consistent with both containers and large bowls. The faience fragments come manly from table use ceramics, such as small bowls, plates and platters, placed within a XVII century second half to XVIII century period. Besides the clay nature of the soils, a pottery trivets found at this site is also consistent with the ancient pottery nature of this neighbourhood.

This thesis aims to explore any interconnection between the late metaphysics of space by a modern age German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and his newly established geometry called analysis situs. At first, based on an analysis of the epistemic context of Leibniz՚s controversy with Newton՚s defender Samuel Clarke, Leibniz՚s intentions pursued throughout this controversy are examined. The key conclusion states, that he did not aim to refute but to supplement the metaphysics of space by Newton.
A convenient means enabling such supplementation is to be seen in Leibniz՚s own, tenaciously developed geometry, the knowledge of which therefore seems to be crucial for the comprehension of Leibniz՚s
correspondence with Clarke. The ultimate outcome of the thesis consists of a reconstruction of Leibniz՚s late metaphysics of space in confrontation with some interpreters working on similar assumptions (viz Dennis Joseph Martin, Richard Arthur and especially Vincenzo de Risi).

Los tratados jurídico-políticos de la Edad Moderna constituyen una fuente primaria a la que es imprescindible acudir para estudiar de la burocracia de la época, un tiempo que se caracterizó por lo fructífero que fue en la impresión de libros de contenido jurídico y político. Gran parte de ellos fueron elaborados por miembros de la burocracia y los convirtieron en un medio para expresar su opinión y valoración, en ocasiones crítica, de la realidad. En aras de contribuir al estudio de la modernidad, en este trabajo analizamos diversos tratados para descubrir la perspectiva que tenían sus autores sobre la Corte, los validos, privados y otros miembros de la burocracia.

"[ES] Durante el s. XVII se produce un fenómeno de fortificación a lo largo de la frontera entre España y Portugal, mediante la construcción de una serie de arquitecturas que siguen los planteamientos de la fortificación abaluartada, con motivo de la Guerra de la Restauración Portuguesa (1640-1668). Se analizará este fenómeno en la zona localizada entre Verín-Monterrei en Galicia y Chaves en Portugal. Este análisis, realizado desde los planteamientos teórico-metodológicos de la arqueología de la arquitectura y la arqueología del paisaje, deriva de los trabajos llevados a cabo inicialmente en un solar de la Villa de Verín, para posteriormente ampliarse a la totalidad del casco urbano y el territorio que lo circunda. Como se verá, los procesos de transformación urbana que ha sufrido Verín están directamente relacionados con la fortificación de frontera a partir del año 1640.

[EN] During the 17th century a fortification phenomenon along the border between Spain and Portugal takes place on the occasion of the Portuguese War of Restoration (1640- 1668), with the construction of a series of architectures that follow the lines of the bastioned fortifications. This phenomenon is studied in the area located between Verín-Monterrei in Galicia and Chaves in Portugal. The analysis, made from the theoretical-methodological approach of the archaeology of the architecture and the archaeology of the landscape, starts in the works carried out in a plot of land in villa de Verín first, and then it spread to the built-up area and to the land surrounding it. As we will see, urban changing processes in the city of Verín are directly related to the fortification of border after 1640."

The relationship that the Bourbon dynasty had in the nineteenth century with the province and especially the city
of Caserta was closer than it had been in the previous century. Ferdinand II and especially his wife Maria Teresa
preferred to stay for a long time in the great royal palace, but they made a retreat. The court ceremonies that
took place here, involving the participation above all of elitist environments but hardly of the town, highlight the
difficulties of adaptation of the dynasty between the old and the new.

Il rapporto che la dinastia dei Borbone ebbe nell’Ottocento con la provincia e soprattutto la città di
Caserta fu più stretto di quanto fosse stato nel secolo precedente. Ferdinando II e soprattutto sua moglie Maria
Teresa preferirono soggiornare lungamente nel grande palazzo casertano, facendo però, tuttavia, vita ritirata.
I cerimoniali di corte che qui si svolgevano, coinvolgendo la partecipazione soprattutto di ambienti elitari ma
difficilmente della cittadina, evidenziano le difficoltà di adattamento della dinastia tra vecchio e nuovo.

Mehter music or „Mehterhâne” represents the military music used in the Ottoman Empire both in times of war and in times of peace.  It had as main purpose the accompaniment of the Ottoman armies in war.  During the battle, the roles of this band were those of inducing the soldiers a winning spirit, of motivating and lifting the spirits of the people, of keeping the cadence of the attacks, of setting the sound signals of the various military manoeuvres, as well as that of celebrating the victories. In times of peace, the mehter music was part of religious celebrations and private events. It could be listened to by a great number of people, starting with the sultan and ending with the common people, due to the fact that the great dimensions of the orchestra and the powerful sounds did not allow it to manifest itself in small, restricted spaces. Thus, it became accessible to everyone. Another characteristic of the mehter music is in close connection with the political power, which it symbolises and represents in various circumstances

Dedicata a interrogare le categorie di metafora, mito e modernità, la riflessione di Hans Blumenberg (1920-1996) è senz'altro una delle più inquiete, profonde e decisive del secondo Novecento. Il presente volume ne offre una serrata ricostruzione evolutiva, partendo da un'analisi della prima, ine-dita fase del suo pensiero, e descrivendone la trasformazione nel corso del primo ventennio (1946-1966). Mostrando come la sua indagine si sia sistematicamente nutrita di un con-fronto "corpo a corpo" con la storia del pensiero cristiano-Agostino, Pascal, Kierkegaard-, vengono allora esplorate le radici teoriche profonde della tesi della legittimità dell'età moderna, quale contraccolpo conseguen-te all'entrata in crisi dell'assolutismo teologico di matrice agostiniana. Ne emerge così un'immagine nuova della proposta filosofica e antropologica di Blumenberg, in costante debito critico nei confronti della memoria cristia-na della cultura occidentale, seppure ritrattata in prospettiva nietzschiana.

Este trabajo aborda la polémica iniciada en 1990 desde el British Museum acerca de la legitimidad de tres pinjantes de perrillo de oro, esmaltados y aderezados con piedras preciosas, procedentes del Tesoro del Pilar de Zaragoza que, subastados públicamente en 1870, hoy se encuentran dispersos. Los tres pinjantes se han considerado por la historiografía falsificaciones realizadas hacia 1860; no obstante, la documentación de la Santa Capilla del Pilar demuestra que dos de ellos son genuinas obras del Renacimiento (ca. 1580-1600). Al menos dos falsificadores europeos copiaron piezas originales, lo que plantea la revisión de la historia de la orfebrería a partir de las obras que, con certeza, son legítimas.This paper covers the controversy raised in 1990 in the British Museum about the authenticity of the three enamelled gold dog pendants, garnished with precious stones, from the Treasury of the Pillar in Saragossa that were publicly auctioned in 1870 and still remain spread. These pendants, were considered fakes manufactured c. 1860 by the historiography. Nevertheless, I can prove that the documentation of the Pillar shows that at least two of them were authentic Renaissance works (c. 1580-1600). At the very least, two European counterfeiters copied genuine works, which raises the revision of the history of goldsmithing from works that are clearly genuine.

Abstract. The convent architecture of the Teresian Carmel developed over the centuries of the Early Modern Time (XVI-XVIII) was designed by friars of the Order, as brother Alberto de la Madre de Dios (1575-1635) or brother Alonso de San José (1600-1654). They used architectural models following the Carmelite charisma, regulations and purpose of the Order and under the assumptions of poverty, austerity, functionality and economy of means. Convents that were inserted into the existing urban planning of cities, and in some cases they even modified it, as the Discalced Carmelites complex of Pamplona (1640-1672) exemplifies. Buildings that through the distribution of space show the new style of life of Teresa, as the designs drawn in 1767 by brother José de San Juan de la Cruz for the Navarre nunnery of Lesaca reflect.

Resumen. La arquitectura conventual del Carmelo Teresiano desarrollada a lo largo de los siglos de la Edad Moderna (XVI-XVIII) fue diseñada por los propios frailes tracistas de la Orden, como fray Alberto de la Madre de Dios (1575-1635) o fray Alonso de San José (1600-1654), con modelos arquitectónicos supeditados al carisma, reglamentos y finalidad de la misma y bajo unos postulados de pobreza, austeridad, funcionalidad y economía de medios. Conventos que se insertaron en la trama urbana existente en las ciudades, llegando en algunos casos a modificarla, como ejemplifica el complejo de carmelitas descalzos de Pamplona (1640-1672). Edificios en los que a través de la distribución de los espacios que los configuran se hace palpable el nuevo estilo de vida teresiano, como reflejan los planos dibujados en 1767 por fray José de San Juan de la Cruz para el convento navarro de religiosas de Lesaca.

Resumo: Apresentam-se duas cabeceiras de sepultura existentes próximo da localidade de Abrunhosa do Mato, freguesia de Cunha Baixa, no concelho de Mangualde. Dada a sua configuração, algo fora dos tipos habituais das estelas medievais, e sem outra natureza de estudos que não a compulsão da bibliografia temática, aventa-se a hipótese de datarem da Idade Moderna.

Resumen

Las diferencias de género en la arquitectura de las órdenes mendicantes son una constante a lo largo de su historia. Las distintas necesidades planteadas por frailes y monjas se reflejan en la arquitectura de conventos y monasterios, e incluso en el lugar que ocupan estos en la ciudad. El presente estudio aborda estas diferencias de género a través de la documentación emanada desde los protagonistas y analiza el reflejo de la Contrarreforma en los espacios mendicantes.

Abstract

Gender differences in the architecture of mendicant orders have been a constant feature throughout history. Monks’ and nuns’ needs are reflected in the architecture of convents and monasteries, and even in their location within towns. This research looks at gender differences using documents written by their key figures and by analyzing the Counter Reformation’s effect on the mendicant orders’ environments.

RESUMO: O presente trabalho apresenta uma leitura do canto X do Memorial dos Milagres de Cristo, poema épico do século XVII escrito pela religiosa cisterciense Soror Maria de Mesquita Pimentel. Pretende-se, com esta análise, demonstrar como alguns dos processos retórico-poéticos mobilizados pela autora no referido canto — cujo núcleo narrativo é a conversão de Maria Madalena — em articulação com os afetos que suscita, assumem uma função retórica de persuasão que apela ao pathos do leitor no sentido de chamar sua atenção para o comportamento penitente de Maria Madalena enquanto modelo a ser seguido por todos os crentes, especialmente pela mulher cristã, que deveria libertar-se dos laços mundanos para converter-se em um modelo exemplar de santidade em consonância com as coordenadas propostas pelo Concílio de Trento.

Batzuk ezezagunak dira, beste batzuk, aldiz, ezagunak ditugu edo dagoeneko lan ezberdinetan bilduta ageri zaizkigu, baina iturriek esanahi, kronologia edota esparru geografikoaren inguruko informazio berria dakarte. Oraingoan, XVI. mendetik XVIII. mende hasiera arteko idatzi gipuzkoarretan begirada jarri dugu, bilduma hau posible egiteko garai hori aztergai zuten hainbat ekimenetan oinarritu baikara. Aldi berean, eta lan honen nondik norakoak aprobetxatuz, hitzen bilaketarako eman ditugun pausoen inguruan jardungo gara, zer iturri eta testuingurutan agertzen diren azalduz, etorkizuneko ikerkuntzetarako baliagarriak izango direlakoan.

Resumen: El siguiente artículo pretende seguir ahondando en el conocimiento del léxico histórico vasco. A través de la documentación inédita de siglos anteriores, hemos recogido diversas palabras. Algunas son desconocidas; otras, no obstante, son conocidas y/o están reogidas en diversos trabajos pero los escritos consultados aportan nuevos datos sobre su significado, cronología o marco geográfico. En esta ocasión nos hemos centrado en textos guipuzcoanos entre el siglo XVI e inicios del XVIIII, debido a que gran parte de esta recopilación se ha basado en iniciativas que abordaban dicha cronología. Al mismo tiempo, y aprovechando los pasos seguidos, trazaremos una serie de pautas en torno a la búsqueda de las palabras, teniendo en cuenta el contexto y la fuente donde aparecen, al objeto de que puedan servir para futuras investigaciones.

Abstract: The next lines want to delve into the knowledge of basque historical vocabulary. Through unknown or unpublished documents of past centuries, we have found certain words. Some of them are unknown; others are familiar or are gathered in different researches, but looking up the consulted writings, we have the choice to know new information about their meanings, chronology or geographical context. In this article we have base on documents between XVI and early XVIII centuries, thanks to initiatives which tackle that chronology. At the same time, we will draw up the guidelines followed on the search of these words, keeping in mind the context and source which their appear, hoping they will be useful to future researches.

The texst presents a research and a design for the ‘regeneration of the cultural heritage’ of a specific geographical area, corresponding to the stretch of coastline that faces the Ionian Sea and is rooted at the bottom of Etna, in Sicily. This “terracqueus landscape” has in the past been punctually marked by vertical architectures, the coastal watchtowers, which can be found all over the Mediterranean. Artifacts hat, like “time machines”, still allow us to travel motionless to contemplate that horizon made of sky and sea, which we contemporaries are all too familiar with by now, but where that elsewhere still reigns, reaching out towards a desire that unites the present, memory and the near future. Among hese, the Archirafi and Laviefuille Towers are two military architectures that no longer exist, ‘invisible’, which stood on the coast of Riposto in the province of Catania, belonging to a much larger fortified system defending the Contea of Mascali. The study of these artefacts, the analysis, examination of texts, historical cartographies, maps, drawings of the past, their critical analogical drawing, restitution and 3D modelling, have led the authors to develop a strategic programme of regeneration of the ‘invisible cultural heritage’ of this portion of the terracqueous landscape. Developing new scenarios and itineraries between the real and the virtual, analogue and digital representation, with the aim of providing institutions and administrators who manage local heritage with pilot projects to bring to the surface and re-connect the distracted contemporary resident with those latent and invisible places that populate, albeit unconsciously, his memory.

Se estudian en este trabajo cinco platos procedentes de la colección del Museo Municipal de Vigo “Quiñones de León” (Vigo, España). Para su estudio se han utilizado técnicas de análisis macroscópico arqueológicas para obtener datos de tipo tecnológico, funcional-tipológico y decorativo. Fruto de estos análisis hemos descubierto que los platos pertenecen a las series tricolor y helechos de Talavera de la Reina o Puente del Arzobispo (Toledo, España) y pueden ser fechados entre los siglos XVII y XVIII.

[In this work five dishes belonging to the decorative art collection of the Museo Municipal de Vigo “Quiñones de León” (Pontevedra, Spain) are studied. Different macroscopic archaeological analyses have been used to obtain technological, typological-functional and decorative data.  As a result, it has been discovered that these dishes belong to the tricolor series and helechos series from Talavera de la Reina or Puente del Arzobispo (Toledo, Spain), being dated between the XVII and XVIII centuries.]
