Il s’agit de l'édition critique d’une « cédule », ou quittance, rédigée au milieu du XIVe siècle par l’un des consuls de la ville d’Herment en Auvergne.
Le texte, consigné sur un morceau de papier de petite dimension (210 mm x 87 mm), concerne des événements survenus à l’été 1356 dans le contexte de la guerre de Cent Ans.

Con questo lavoro ci proponiamo di fare ordine nel 'mare magnum' di considerazioni e studi più o meno approfonditi che riguardano la problematica figura di Bieiris de Romans e della sua unica 'canso' a noi pervenuta. Nel primo capitolo tenteremo di mostrare la difficoltà di delimitare in maniera definitiva il corpus delle 'trobairitz' e come vari autori abbiano interpretato diversamente l’inclusione o meno di alcuni testi e personalità. Nel secondo capitolo tratteremo nello specifico di Bieiris de Romans, ovvero il fatto di essere l’unica 'trobairitz' dell’intera produzione lirica in lingua d’oc a indirizzare una 'canso' a un’altra donna; esporremo, dunque, le teorie degli studiosi che appoggiano la sua effettiva esistenza e autorialità e quelli che vi si oppongono; infine, proporremo una nostra opinione sulla questione. Nel terzo capitolo esporremo il testo originale, una traduzione e un’analisi critica.

This article is about the political song written by the late troubadour Pey de Ladils of the town of Bazas (now in département Gironde, France) about the conflict in Gascony between the king of England and the king of France. Ladils criticizes there the inaction of the king of England (probably Edward II) against the attacks of the king of France. He underlines the fidelity of the Gascons towards the king of England.

E' davvero sorprendente notare come tenebre e oscurità, bianco e nero, siano le principali antinomie su cui si basa la lirica dei trovatori. E' altrettanto sorprendente notare come la menzione ai colori caldi e ai colori freddi determinino l'asprezza o la levità del canto. In prossimità della chiarezza, il canto dei trovatori diventa 'lieve' (trobar leu) mentre in prossimità dell'oscurità, il loro canto diventa 'chiuso' (trobar clus).
Bisogna, inoltre, riconoscere che la lirica dei trovatori è basata su termini ricorrenti, che quasi disegnano un'algebra fatta di simboli e suoni in perfetta contraddizione e in perfetta sintesi.

This article presents a reconsideration of the origin of the manuscript Lyon, Bibliotheque municipale, ms. PA 36, containing a complete Occitan translation of the New Testament and a Cathar text known as the Ritual of Lyon. The codex of Lyon is important not only for the history of dissident Christian traditions, but also for the history of medieval vernacular translations of the Bible. Despite scrutinizing the manuscript since mid-nineteenth century, scholars have fallen short of suggesting convincing arguments concerning its genesis. The dates proposed for the codex and the Ritual of Lyon vary significantly as well. Building upon earlier linguistic findings and considering internal as well as external evidence, we argue that far from being the witness of the supposed golden age of Occitan Catharism at the beginning of the thirteenth century, the codex as well as the Ritual of Lyon itself are connected with a spirited early-fourteenth-century attempt at restoring Cathar Christianity in Languedoc, headed by a former notary of Ax, Peter Autier. This finding is an important contribution to the history and interpretation of the manuscript, the Ritual of Lyon, and the oldest extant translation of the New Testament in Occitan.

Dans cette contribution, nous décrivons l'évolution de la position des pronoms clitiques par rapport à un verbe conjugué à partir d'un corpus de textes non littéraires. À cause des problèmes que pose l'emploi artistique de la langue dans la littérature nous avons utilisé uniquement des documents tels que des chartes, protocoles, etc. L'avantage de ce procédé réside en outre dans la datation et la localisation fiables des textes. L'analyse est centrée sur les propriétés syntaxiques des pronoms objets clitiques - aussi appelés formes atones, réduites, faibles, légères ou conjointes au verbe - de l'ancien occitan.

Este trabajo presta atención al valor e importancia que adquiere el conselh en la Edad Media, particularmente en las composiciones líricas dialogadas de las trobairitz: "Bona domna, tan vos ai fin coratge" (PC 461,56), "Dompna N’Almucs, si·us plages" (PC 20,2) y "Na Carenza al bèl còrs avenenz" (PC 12,1). En todas ellas se recurre como tema principal al consejo amoroso, ya sea ofrecido por parte de una dama experimentada a una joven carente de experiencia, o bien por una intermediaria ajena a la relación amorosa.

Este traballo presta atención ao valor e importancia que adquire o  conselh na Idade Media, particularmente nas composicións líricas dialogadas das  trobairitz: "Bona  domna, tan vos ai fin coratge" (PC 461,56), "Dompna  N’ Almucs, se· us  plages" (PC 20,2) e "Na  Carenza al bèl còrs avenenz" (PC 12,1). En todas elas recórrese como tema principal ao consello amoroso, xa sexa ofrecido por parte dunha dama experimentada a unha moza carente de experiencia, ou ben por unha intermediaria allea á relación amorosa.

This project pays attention to the study on the value and the importance that the conselh acquires during the Middle Ages, particularly in the trobairitz’s converse lyric compositions: "Bona domna, tan vos ai fin coratge" (PC 461,56), "Dompna N’Almucs, si·us plages" (PC 20,2) y "Na Carenza al bèl còrs avenenz" (PC 12,1). In all of them, the main topic is the love advice, either offered by an experimented woman to a young girl without experience, or by an external intermediary to the relationship.

La morphologie du conditionnel deuxième forme (C2F) est bien connue, en occitan médiéval, et même en occitan moderne (dans ceux des dialectes contemporains où il a subsisté). Cependant, ce temps n'a, à ma connaissance, que rarement fait l'objet jusqu'à présent d'une étude spécifique de son emploi et, dans les ouvrages de référence, les exemples visant à illustrer ce même emploi sont généralement répétitifs et peu variés. Autrement dit, les spécificités sémantiques du C2F et sa place dans le système verbal ne sont pas suffisamment soulignées et définies.
L'occitan médiéval avait un temps simple de plus que la plupart des parlers occitans modernes. Ce temps devait avoir une valeur propre, un champ sémantique, verbal, autonome, qui justifiait son existence. Cette étude vise donc à essayer de comprendre le C2F en occitan médiéval, et non simplement à en proposer des traductions ou à en relever les formes.
J'essaierai donc de classer les formes relevées au cours de ma lecture de la seconde partie de la chanson de la croisade, afin de mettre en valeur les différents emplois et acceptions de ce temps.

La tecnica della scrittura a citazione ha conosciuto, nell’ambito della tradizione letteraria occitanica, un uso ampio e diversificato. Il presente contributo si sofferma sulle citazioni trobadoriche delle novas Abril issia e mays intrava e So fo el temps c’om era gays di Ramon Vidal e del Breviari d’amor di Matfre Ermengaud, testi che si collocano rispettivamente in apertura della tradizione narrativa occitanica e in chiusura dell’esperienza lirica trobadorica. Il saggio indaga la posizione delle citazioni dai trovatori nell’economia complessiva dei tre testi, mirando a comprendere la funzione logico-argomentativa da esse ricoperta e a mettere a fuoco quale immagine dell’esperienza lirica occitanica gli inserti lirici veicolino.

Accessing historical texts is often a challenge because readers either do not know the historical language, or they are challenged by the technological hurdle when such texts are available digitally. Merging corpus linguistic methods and digital technology can provide novel ways of representing historical texts digitally and providing a simpler access. In this paper, we describe a  multi-dimensional parallel Old Occitan-English corpus, in which word alignment serves as the basis for search capabilities as well as for the transfer of annotations.  We show how parallel alignment can help overcome some challenges of historical manuscripts.  Furthermore, we apply a resource-light method of building an emotion annotation via parallel alignment, thus showing that such annotations are possible without speaking the historical language. Finally, using visualization tools, such as ANNIS and GoogleViz, we demonstrate how the emotion analysis can be queried  and visualized dynamically in our parallel corpus, thus showing that such information can be made accessible with low technological barriers.

Peire de la Mula è stato a lungo considerato un trovatore di origine italiana, soprattutto a causa dei riferimenti alla penisola presenti nella sua "vida". Tuttavia, recenti studi documentari hanno portato alla luce nuove informazioni biografiche che hanno reso necessaria una nuova edizione dei suoi testi, a lungo accantonati dai critici proprio per i pochi riferimenti interni che avrebbero potuto condurre a una più profonda conoscenza della loro storia autoriale.

This volume brings together contributions by specialists from a variety of disciplines discussing the epistemological history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and the transmission of knowledge in the Crown of Aragon. They consider, among other things, the materiality of texts, the linguistic models employed, the persistence of ancient models of perceiving the world, up to the establishment of new ways of thinking and knowledge transfer.

The merging of corpus linguistic methods and digital technology can provide new ways of representing medieval digital texts. In this paper, we introduce a multi-layered parallel Old Occitan-English corpus. We show how parallel alignment can help overcome some challenges associated with historical manuscripts. Furthermore, we apply a resource-light method of building an emotion annotation via parallel alignment. Finally, using visualization tools such as ANNIS and GoogleViz, we demonstrate how our parallel corpus can be queried and visualized dynamically via modern language.

Cet ouvrage propose une approche très novatrice d'une importante tradition littéraire médiévale et permet une compréhension nouvelle de la culture alimentaire du Moyen Âge, en particulier dans la région de l'Occitanie, c'est-à-dire du Midi de la France. Le festin du troubadour innove sur bien des points, une partie du travail de l'auteur ayant consisté à rendre plus perceptibles les particularités du Midi de la France, en utilisant les sources et les matériaux de cette région. L'un des objectifs de ce livre est donc d'offrir au lecteur moderne une sorte de panorama de deux éléments distincts et en même temps intimement liés : la cuisine et la littérature occitanes médiévales. Ainsi, combinant les ressources de la recherche littéraire, historique, et anthropologique, Wendy Pfeffer atteint ici à une plus profonde connaissance de la culture de l'Occitanie médiévale, une région avec sa langue distincte et ses pro-pres traditions, littéraires, historiques, sociales et culinaires.

Si fornisce l'edizione e il commento linguistico di quattro brevi documenti primotrecenteschi che, redatti originariamente da scriventi occitanici (o in un caso forse balearici o catalani), furono trascritti da cancellieri veneziani, i quali li copiarono, senza tradurli, in un registro dei Commemoriali.

Il subsiste, au sein des dépôts des archives municipales de Riom, un document intéressant rédigé en ancien occitan et demeuré inédit jusqu’à présent. Il s’agit d’un fragment de comptabilité consulaire de la ville de Riom. Le texte, consigné sur une peau de parchemin relate des faits remontant à la fin du XIIIe siècle et au début du XIVe siècle (1293, 1299, 1305). Nous ne sommes donc pas en présence d’un document comptable « ordinaire », à savoir un registre tenu, au jour au jour, par les consuls ou par un scribe municipal (comme le pratique la commune montferrandaise depuis le milieu du XIIIe siècle au plus tard) mais, selon toute vraisemblance, d’un document de travail. Une telle pratique scripturaire révèle, sans doute, un besoin pragmatique (se souvenir des sommes dues à ou par telle ou telle personne), mais traduit également un certain intérêt mémoriel du gouvernement riomois. En effet, le texte conserve, en une seule peau de parchemin et en une trentaine de lignes seulement, la mémoire de faits couvrant les années 1293 à 1305.

Traditional analyses of Old French as a verb-second (V2) language (e.g. Thurneysen 1892; Adams 1987) have recently been challenged by Kaiser 2002 and related work. At issue is the treatment of situations in which a particular initial non-subject element can participate in either V2 or V3 order. The current paper focuses on sentences in which the initial element is a fronted subordinate clause. Using a diachronic data base of 13th-century prose, we argue first for a revision in the criteria for identifying V3 that reduces the number of such examples considerably. We then show that the rate of V2 vs. V3 with fronted clauses varies with respect to date, genre, and fronted-clause type in ways that suggest a syntactic change in progress rather than the absence of V2 effects. Our conclusion is supported by a parallel study of a closely related (but minimally syntactically different) language, Old Occitan.

We present a methodology for enriching treebanks containing verse texts with metrical annotation, and present a pilot corpus containing one Old Occitan text. Metrical annotation is based on syllable tokens, and is generated semi-automatically using two algorithms, one to divide word tokens into syllables, and a second to mark the position of each syllable in the line. Syntactic and metrical annotation is combined in a single multi-layered ANNIS corpus. Three initial findings based on the pilot corpus illustrate the close relation between syntactic and metrical structure, and hence the value of enriching treebanks in this way.

Abstract
This PhD thesis investigates the grammaticalization of se-constructions in some of the Medieval Romance varieties of Spanish, French, Catalan and Occitan. It combines different theoretical approaches as well as in-depth corpus studies in order to shed new light on a matter that has intrigued many linguists for decades.
More concretely, it unites the insights on the development of the different se-constructions we get from typological studies, grammaticalization theory and generative syntax. The combination of the historical dimension and studies on the syntactic status of se seems to provide vital information in order to bring about a more profound understanding of the processes that are involved in the grammaticalization of se. The following grammaticalization path has been suggested for the reflexive: reflexive > middle > anticausative > passive > impersonal.
The results of the extensive corpus studies that have been conducted as an integral part of this work show i.a. that i) the re-organization of the (Late) Latin voice system and SE/SIBI spreading to new domains (as described in typological literature) have left a residual system of se occurring with intransitive verbs of all sorts and marking impersonality. ii) While the Medieval null-subject varieties, such as Spanish Catalan and Occitan, show quite similar results, Medieval French (whose null-subject status has been repeatedly questioned in the last 20 years) behaves differently sticking to older and lexicalized (middle) uses with animate subjects rather than exhibiting a fully functional range of se-constructions. Syntactically active constructions, such as the passive or impersonal active constructions involving se are only sparsely found and mainly come in towards the end of the Middle Ages in texts that are translations from Latin originals.
On the basis of the data situation and insights gained from previous studies, the present thesis seeks to explain the differences in connection with the unclear null-subject status of Medieval French, the abundant use of the highly grammaticalized indefinite pronoun on and the missing reanalysis of se as an agreement marker that is able to head its own projection or to become involved in absorbing the [+Def] feature in finite T as in the other Medieval Romance varieties that show no restriction in their null-subject properties.

This paper focuses on creating a historical parallel corpus of Old Occitan and English. The 13th century Occitan narrative poem Roman de Flamenca holds a unique position in Provençal literature, and is a “universally acknowledged masterpiece of Old Occitan narrative” (Fleischmann, 1995). We show how historical investigations may benefit from such a parallel corpus

Edition commentée de trois quittances en ancien occitan du consulat de la ville royale de Montferrand en basse Auvergne. La première traite du mariage d'une princesse royale (1333), les deux autres des subsides de guerre exigés par Philippe VI dans le cadre de la "guerre de Gascogne" (1337).

Ce document est la traduction japonaise de La Nobla Leiçon, une poésie que les Vaudois de l époque médiévale ont composée au 15 ème siècle. Il reste quatre manuscrits encore aujourd hui : Cambridge B , Cambridge C , Genève et Dublin. Cette traduction vient de la version Cambridge B. Il y a environ lignes écrites en ancien occitan, et plus particulièrement celui qui se parlait dans la région des Alpes cottiennes. Nous pouvons trouver trois motifs dans ce texte : « la Bible », « la morale » et « l Apocalypse ». Il est dit que ces motifs expriment la doctrine des Vaudois. Il y a beaucoup de recherches sur La Nobla Leiçon pour analyser les idées des Vaudois au Moyen-Âge ; ce document est le plus connu de leurs documents historiques. En avoir une traduction japonaise, c est comprendre leur esprit et obtenir le point de vue d une minorité religieuse du monde occidental.

This paper describes the implementation of a resource-light approach, cross-language transfer, to build and annotate a historical corpus for Old Occitan. Our approach transfers morpho-syntactic and syntactic annotation from resource-rich source languages, Old French and Catalan, to a genetically related target language, Old Occitan. The present corpus consists of three sub-corpora in XML format: 1) raw text; 2) part-of-speech tagged text; and 3) syntactically annotated text
