This little guidebook treats about the construction and decoration of the Parque Florido Palace (1904-1908), one of the most sumptuous mansions of Madrid, residence of the publisher, financier, bibliophile and collector of art José Lázaro y Galdiano (1862-1947) and headquarters of the museum that takes his name.

encetou um processo de renovação construtiva na sede da Ordem em Tomar, abrindo um ciclo
de empreitadas que se traduziram principalmente nos paços mestrais e claustros adjacentes. A
proximidade do Infante com a Ordem que agora governava tornou indispensável a criação de
um paço para si, permitindo-lhe um maior controlo sobre a mesma. É o paço do Mestre o objeto
de estudo desta investigação.

Hitherto, the knowledge of reconstruction of the .monuments, finishing layer should be a layer of cosmetics increase ventilation of deep understanding, even so, there has been just a common vision. The reason is traditional architectural secrets were lost and forgotten in today. One of them is a method of building construction's ventilation " khataba ". Nevertheless, today majority considers reconstructing. Over the years for a number of methods are used for the medieval century architecture of buildings. Particularly, the foundation of the design of a tent yard restores from the wild reed as a waterproofing, cob walls and ventilation " khataba " method. At the last decade, Central Asia had a various political and social views. The reason why, it has lost the shape of its traditional building style and national architecture ornaments, as well. According to the different causes, several tactics of a national construction have preserved by the architectural heritages. In the years of independence of Uzbekistan, the number of native researchers are looking for the forgiven architectural technics. This paper is also a piece of that kind of research articles.

The History of the Concept ‘Polish Versailles’, Namely the Verbal Image of the World

The article presents the circumstance of creating and applying the concept ‘Polish Versailles’ outside the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In Białystok, Jan Klemens Branicki created one of the most interesting palace and garden ensembles in 18th-century Europe. The phrase appeared for the first time in German-speaking press in 1752. Despite dozens, and if not hundreds of opportunities of recording sumptuous ceremonies held by Jan Klemens Branicki, the European elites became acquainted with the appearance of Hetman’s residence thanks to the book by Jean-Baptiste Chappe d’Auteroche published in 1768. The physicist described his 1761 trip, when heading for Tobolsk, he stopped only for several hours on the way in Białystok, and he visited the palace and the gardens. The facility was elevated to the rank of the most important palace and garden ensembles in the map of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth published in 1772 by Giovanni Rizzi-Zannoni. Quite exceptional in this respect was the encyclopaedic publication of Anton Friedrich Büsching from 1754 who began endorsing the concept Polnische Versailles.
At that time, under Izabela Branicka the palace was living its decline, while the sale of Białystok to Alexander I of Russia only slowed down the deterioration process. Büsching, the promoter of the description, verified his opinion in 1786, and stopped applying the concept. The symbol, written down in many popular books, however, survived, and was copied by numerous subsequent artists throughout the whole of the 19th century. The consequence was the clash of travellers’ expectations with the grim realities, this exemplified by the 1814 experience of Casimir Stanislas d’Arpentigny. Such a situation yielded the saying Similar like Białystok and Versailles, applied to describe two totally incongruous elements.

The aim of the article is to organize the current state of research and attribution to carry out a new formal and genetic analysis. In the case of the palace in Kielce we can reconstruct the constructing works and determine the names of performers. Builders and decorators of the headquarters of bishops were employees of workshops from the sculpture centre in Chęciny and masons from the former province of Sandomierz and Cracow. The source of inspiration for the residence was the project of Villa Pisana in Montagnana by Andrea Palladio. Previous suppositions that the author of the palace project in Kielce was Tomasz Poncino must be rejected in favor of Giovanni Trevano.

The palace complex of Kubadabad near Beyşehir - regarding its good state of preservation - provides an ideal object for the study of palace architecture and the (courtly) rhetoric under the reign of the Rum-Seljuk Sultan ʿAlaʾ al-Din Kaykubad I (r.1219-1237).
This thesis offers a new perspective to the existing studies by identifying common rhetorical methods, and tools that were used by the Sultan and Seljuk courtiers to articulate courtly/ royal messages on power and kingship. It argues that - in facing the process of renewal - nature has become a key element of the courtly/ imperial of rhetoric in the thirteenth century Seljuk Anatolia as far as the palace architecture –i.e. the choice of architectural form, composition, and materials – and court literature – i.e. historical narratives/ dynastic histories and advice literature – took nature as a major model of thought and organization along with religion and legends. The assumed influence of nature on architectural and literary rhetoric of palaces will be examined based on two different sources on the extraordinary example of Kubadabad: The first part of the study investigates the archaeological data gathered from forty years of excavation at Kubadabad. The second part discusses the work Al-Awamir al-Alaiyya fi’l-umr’ al-Alaiyya written by the contemporary Seljuk courtier Ibn Bibi regarding architectural references and rhetorical elements.

Tematem niniejszego opracowania są królewskie pałace Amenhotepa III, jednego z największych władców XVIII dynastii. Założenia te wzniesione zostały na jego polecenie w Tebach, na zachodnim brzegu Nilu. Stanowisko znane pod współczesną nazwą Malgata badane było na przestrzeni ponad stu lat przez wiele misji archeologicznych. Niniejsza praca zawiera zestawienie opublikowanych wyników badań i interpretacje poszczególnych założeń. W pracy opisana została historia wykopalisk, topografia stanowiska, architektura oraz dekoracje pałaców. Ponadto w celach porównawczych zaprezentowane zostały w zarysie także inne znane królewskie pałace z tego okresu. Na tej podstawie autor przedstawia własne interpretacje niektórych założeń znajdujących się w Malgacie.

ABSTRACT: This lecture provides an initial summary of the general conditions during Amenhotep III’s reign, it proceeds with the background/setting for Amenhotep III’s reign, Amenhotep III's ascension to the throne, a summary of domestic affairs in years 1-11, including building projects, (selected examples), the middle years of Amenhotep III’s reign, Amenhotep III’s Sed-festivals in years 30/31, 33/34 and 36/37, other aspects of Amenhotep III’s reign (e.g., Amurru), the death of Amenhotep III, the royal burial place of Amenhotep III, the (earlier) debated co-regency between Amenhotep III & Amenhotep IV (see next lecture on Akhenaten), some extra items from Amenhotep III’s reign (covered in the diplomacy lecture), and selected sources dealing with Amenhotep III’s reign. Palaces like the Aljafería and the Alhambra rank among the highest achievements of the Islamic world. In recent years archaeological work at Córdoba, Kairouan and many other sites has vastly increased our knowledge about the origin and development of Islamic palatial architecture, particularly in the Western Mediterranean region. This book offers a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of Islamic palace architecture in Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and southern Italy. The author, who has himself conducted archaeological field work at several prominent sites, presents all Islamic palaces known in the region in ground plans, sections and individual descriptions. The book traces the evolution of Islamic palace architecture in the region from the 8th to the 19th century and places them within the context of the history of Islamic culture. Palace architecture is a unique source of cultural history, offering insights into the way space was conceived and the way rulers used architecture to legitimize their power. The book discusses such topics as the influence of the architecture of the Middle East on the Islamic palaces of the western Mediterranean region, the role of Greek logic and scientific progress on the design of palaces, the impact of Islamic palaces on Norman and Gothic architecture and the role of Sufism on the palatial architecture of the late medieval period.

Traditional views on Middle Bronze Age (MBA) palatial function have been challenged by recent work at Tel Kabri, where the excavators have argued against the common identification of southern Levantine palaces as redistributive centres staffed with literate administrators. These innovative ideas surrounding palace function were first developed by Flinders Petrie during excavations at Tell el-‘Ajjul in 1931–32. Here he uncovered a series of elaborately constructed elite residences that he identified as ‘palaces’. However, when reconsidering Petrie’s finds, the results from ‘Ajjul are largely supportive of the Kabri observations. A lack of evidence for key functional attributes of palaces—large-scale storage, administrative paraphernalia and redistributive function is comparable to that reported at Kabri. A short consideration of similar MBA ‘palaces’ elsewhere in the southern Levant is supportive of the aforementioned trend, and therefore calls into question the traditionally held views on the function of these elaborate architectural complexes. Either the function generally attributed to these structures is incorrect, or administration and rulership in MBA Canaan leaves no unambiguous residues in the archaeological record.

В нем показана история возведения дворца, его освящения, основные принципы планировки, особенности жизни царя Алексея Михайловича, наследников престола Федора, Ивана, Петра и их ближайших родственников. Во второй половине XVII в. царские дворцы предназначались не только для отдыха: в них проходили дипломатические приемы, царские аудиенции, заседала Ближняя Боярская дума, решались внутриполитические вопросы.
Издание богато иллюстрировано изображениями фондовых предметов XVII в. из собрания МГОМЗ и других музеев.

The album is dedicated to everyday life of Kolomenskoe Palace during in the second half of the 17th century — the peak period of the Tsar residences. It shows the history of the building of the palace, its consecration, the basic principles of planning, the life of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich and his heirs, Fyodor, Ivan, Peter, and their immediate families. In the second half of the 17th century royal palaces were intended not only to rest: there are diplomatic and royal audiences, meet of Near Boyar Duma, deciding of internal policy issues.
The publication is richly illustrated with images of things from the collection of MGOMZ and other museums.

Scholarship on premodern ruling elites tends to minimize the complexity of ancient politics and to focus on the decisions of individual kings and their charismatic swaying of entire populations. This dissertation departs from this tendency by investigating the exercise of power by the governments of premodern complex societies, or how ancient politicians organized their institutions. I argue the politics of ancient civilizations may best be studied by focussing on their regime: the political community which coalesced when rulers assembled their allies within the seat of government. This approach emphasizes practices of communication between a ruling body and its political network, as reflected by the exchange of information and goods.
Among premodern complex societies ruled by divine kingship, the regime is best described as a royal court, whose architectural institution corresponds to a regal palace. In order to address this anthropological political model, I examine the multi-dimensional archaeological record of the regal palace of La Corona, a small polity of northwest Guatemala that emerged during the Classic Period of Maya civilization (AD 250-950). I rely on an assemblage of complementary datasets – architecture, macro-artifacts, hieroglyphic monuments, micro-artifacts, geochemical elements, and macro-botanical remains – to study how the La Corona royal court exercised political power.
I study the last three construction phases of the north section of the La Corona regal palace and their two-century-long occupation to address a set of pragmatic questions. By examining residences, political stages, passageways, administrative space,
ancillary buildings, and middens, I seek to understand how Classic Maya politicians relied on economic and ritualized exchanges to effectively manage their regime. In addition, thanks to the rich historical record of La Corona and to a fine-tuned architectural sequence, I explore how the changing historical and geopolitical contexts of this polity transformed its government.
Through this rich diachronic empirical case-study, I build upon and contribute to an anthropological archaeology of politics, to ancient political economy, and to Classic Maya historical archaeology. In addition, I wish to highlight why the study of ancient politics may be relevant for us today, and perhaps, our near future.

References to the presence of gardens in the palace complexes of Hellenistic rulers are frequent in international scholarship, with literary sources being used as the main type of evidence. Usually a distinction is drawn between parks in the palace premises and gardens located in peristyle courtyards. This paper reconsiders the second group by examining the archaeological remains in the cases where a ‘garden-peristyle’ has been identified. It suggests that such identification is rather overstretched and in all likelihood biased by the presence of gardens in peristyle courtyards of aristocratic residences of the Late Roman Republic.
The first step in examining the presence of garden-peristyles is to assess the surviving evidence against well-established scholarly methods on how to identify gardens and horticultural processes in the archaeological record. The major case studies are the Antigonid palaces in Pella and Demetrias, the palace of Jebel Khalid in the Seleucid kingdom and the Attalid royal seats on the Acropolis of Pergamon. Comparison of the courtyard design with the earlier garden peristyles of Roman houses and an overview of the possible activities the palace courtyards accommodated further show that garden peristyles were not a widespread feature amongst the seats of Hellenistic monarchs.
